Weekend Update #2

8:24AM

SUMMARY…
High pressure overhead and south of New England today, moving offshore by tonight and Monday and this brings fair and milder weather though coastal areas where wind is onshore will be cooler both days. Cold front approaches and passes from west to east Monday night and Tuesday morning with clouds and showers. Another high pressure area moves in later Tuesday through Thursday with another episode of fair and mild weather. Again watch for cooler conditions along the coast. By the end of the week a large low pressure area will approach from the south and set up an onshore flow as well as bringing moisture from the south. The inevitable result is a turn to unsettled weather.

  1. REPOST of AccuWeather quiz by Longshot…

    Today’s AccuWeather Trivia Quiz?

The form of winter precipitation that is most dangerous to power lines is:
    A. Freezing rain
    B. Freezing drizzle
    C. Sleet
    D. Snow

    Answer later today.

    1. Well past time. But then we will all be playing catch up when the water starts to run out elsewhere in this country. And we will also scratch our heads and say….hey why didn’t we see this coming.

  2. Up to 57. Going to have to go some to make the 67 predicted.
I would have expected at least 60 by now. Trying to recover from low launching point this morning I guess.

    1. Checking 11 AM observations the highest wind speed I saw was 7 mph.
A sea breeze is going to RUIN the day along the coast. I don’t know how
far inland it will penetrate. Will watch.

      1. TK has it in the forecast: Wind light variable with coastal seabreezes possible

Not sure I heard mention of it elsewhere, including the NWS.

        See below

WINDS WILL BE CONSIDERABLY LESS THAN SUNDAY WITH MOSTLY WEST WINDS 10-15 MPH WHICH WILL PRECLUDE AFTERNOON SEABREEZES ALONG THE E COAST..

Really????? WHere are the 10-15 mph winds? Winds VERY LIGHT our there. Look out your damn window NWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. 12:03 PM and 57.9 here. Not even 60 at Noon. I am disappointed so far. There is time, but it should be higher by now.

  4. Noon at Airport.

57 with Wind at 240 6 Mph. Amazed it has held this long.
Will it hold till the SW wind gets going? I doubt, but we shall see.

  5. General Westerly wind is picking up out there to our West.
Perhaps we will be spared a Sea breeze or at least an extensive one.
Perhaps in the next hour or 2 one right along the immediate coast one
    will spring up.

    We shall see.

      1. I used to love watching the buds JUST before they opened…

We had 4 cottonwood trees in my back yard when I was little and they always dropped those really long seed things that I used to call “tree worms”. They made a mess of the yard but I didn’t care, probably because I didn’t have to clean them up. πŸ˜‰

All those trees are gone. 3 started to die so we cut them down. The final one was struck by lightning (while I was looking at it) on Tuesday June 29 1982 and started to die the next year so we took it down in 1984.

  6. 59 here. Ever so slowly getting there. Did I say slowly. I to light a fire under
    the thermometer.

  7. Now THIS is nice. Don’t tell me a 45 degree sunny day is nice. I don’t think it’s too much to ask to get at least a few days a week like this. Even this time of year.

  8. As of noon all the official stations in eastern MA were between 55 & 60. A couple unofficial ones were 61 or 62. Anything warmer than that at that point was probably sun-influenced. That should change at 1PM when temps should be up 1 to 3 degrees from the hour before. So far OS there is enough gradient left to keep the W wind going to prevent a seabreeze. This is why I said that the sea breezes were possible, and not a certainty. πŸ™‚ We’ll see what goes on this afternoon.

I’ll be outside doing yard work starting about 2:30PM until just before sunset. Dad was transferred to Lahey due to a complication found on a cat scan. Mom is heading up there for the day but I’ll be here taking care of the outside along with my son. Town’s first collection of yard waste is the week we return from Florida so want to fill up some barrels before we go!

  9. Thanks TK. Was 63 on car thermometer when I was out a bit ago

Two feet natural base still at canon mountain and skiing for another couple of weeks. No natural at Sunapee but about a week left. Brother said was getting slushy by noon yesterday

Forsythia starting to show a yellow tinge. Daffodils barely opening this am. They are about 3-4 weeks past this century’s bloom and pretty much on target for late 80s into end of 90s

  10. 57-63 as of 1PM. The 64+ are confined to the CT Valley westward. It went up a few as expected. Should peak out by 3PM. Nobody makes 70 today with the possible exception of the CT Valley. Tomorrow, I think a few areas touch 70 or 71 but most will stay in the 60s. Very nice weather today and again tomorrow.

    1. It is trying ever so hard here. 65 at 2:01.

I get to use the new grill tonight. Charcoal is set …can you tell I am anxious

  11. 64 in pembroke no wind at all. Back yard just cleaned up . I’ll wait and put the back deck furniture out till after vacation I think .

  12. Well OS I bet you’re not too disappointed now. There was indeed enough gradient to hold that onshore breeze out of Logan which made it into the middle 60s! The warmest spots, as expected, are the CT Valley, Merrimack Valley (interior), and Nashoba Valley areas, as well as a couple other inland low lying locations. They have reached the upper 60s and a 70 here and there. In contrast, lower to middle 50s as expected along the South Coast where the wind is now SW right off the water. It may be a beautiful sunny day over Cape Cod but it’s chilly in that breeze.

I’m going to spend 3 1/2 hours doing the yard work with my son now, after which I will start putting together The Week Ahead. Again I’m thinking of changing up the format a bit soon to a day 1-5 detail, day 6-10 outlook, day 11-15 overview, sometime in the coming weeks. Target date to implement is June 1. No other big changes planned for the blog at this time.

    Have a great afternoon all!

  13. Temp has reached its high of the day so far at 68.2 degrees, feels beautiful!! I meant to say yesterday I saw the landscapers planting flowers at both McDonald’s on rt 1 yesterday, another sign of spring, all our planting a go in this upcoming weekend πŸ™‚

  14. I think we maxed out at 67 today in Newton.

I walked 4 miles yesterday and then today I walked another 4, but with no jacket and short sleeves. I can’t remember the last time I walked with just short sleeves.

  15. Answer to Today’s AccuWeather Trivia Quiz?

The form of winter precipitation that is most dangerous to power lines is:
    A. Freezing rain
    B. Freezing drizzle
    C. Sleet
    D. Snow

    The answer is A.

  16. And the wind goes NW at Boston and they reach their high temp at 7PM. Gotta love New England. πŸ˜€

  17. Felt so good to be outside today!!! Spent a couple of hours walking around Castle Island and that place was packed!

    1. There will be more people out between yesterday and tomorrow than there will be on most days in June. πŸ˜›
