Monday Forecast Update

6:17PM

SUMMARY…
There is not a whole lot of change from the previous update. After the anticipated warmth came to fruition today, with of course the exception of the South Coast and Cape Cod, we’ll have a cold front cross the region early Tuesday with a band of showers. The cooler air on the other side of the front will not be all that much cooler than what we saw today. High pressure will bring another round of very nice weather for the middle of the week, though not as warm as today. By Thursday, some cooling sea breezes are likely in areas that did not see them the last couple of days. At the end of the week we see more cloudiness Friday ahead of a cold front. I’m still expecting the interaction of this front with some moisture from the south as it passes on Saturday, so that will be the day most likely to see showers. Fair and cooler weather returns Sunday into Monday, which is the Patriots Day Holiday and also the Boston Marathon. By then we’ll be watching low pressure to the southwest of the region for its timing, but for now will keep the forecast dry as it should hold off.

  1. My son and I took a bicycle ride today on the Nashua River Rail Trail. We headed north from Ayer. We made it about six miles until the trail was covered in so much ice and snow that we had to turn around. I was surprised, given the recent weather. This area has a lot of pine trees shading it.

The surrounding woods were almost completely covered in snow. It loved the contrast of the snow with the warmth of the air.

  2. Wow, what a mild start to the day !!

……. I dont like the general signal the GFS is giving starting 5 or so days from now.

Chilly, air mostly from Canada or off the Atlantic ….. Ridge returning to the west. 🙁

  3. Good morning and thanks TK.

    Great Sox victory yesterday.

Glorious day yesterday. A 10 plus!

    Taxes filed. Yeah!

    Wife’s birthday today.

Had dinner at Ruth’s Chris Steak House Saturday night. Awesome! very expensive, but perfect for nice occasions. We love that place, but it is just way too expensive
to visit often, at least on our budget. Food and ambiance is fabulous.

Let’s get this rain out of the way early, so we can enjoy another nice day. 😀

    1. Isn’t that funny. It’s the most popular bird at our feeder. My dad taught us at a young age to make their call so I always think of him

      Happy birthday to Mrs OS

  4. That is a nice dumping of snow next week for me as well as the Berkshire’s for next week.
I would be surprised if that happens given this models performance.

    1. Oh yea, to be sure. IT’s the CMC Which means Crap, More Crap.

But you never know. Wait, we do know. 😀

  5. Cloudiness will indeed be around through evening but not solid overcast. After we get rid of the mid level cloud band it should be mostly high level cloudiness preventing blue sky and bright sun.

Watch for a possible brief flare of showers that may clip Cape Cod before noon.

Great weather midweek but don’t expect any 70s.

  6. The high clouds you can see on satellite over PA/OH/IN will be in our sky later today and the reason why clearing will not fully occur until overnight.

  7. The blue will approach and move in somewhat but then get “whitewashed” with cirrus/cirrostratus.

  8. 65.5 here. Sun has been in and out, but mostly in at the moment.
Shining through the overcast just barely enough to leave a faint shadow. 😀

  9. Regarding the CMC Berkshire SNow Beast.

Well the 12Z run Lost that. he he he

re: Patriot’s Day and the Marathon.
Not looking so good now. Could be a very RAINY day.

Main concern over the next 7 days is how Marathon Monday pans out. Rain likely approaching, but exact timing not known yet. Def not hot!

    1. Its nice, even with the cloud cover, its quite mild.

I’m getting used to it …….. first 47F, cloudy, rainy, east wind day will be depressing.

      1. Agreed Tom. My mindset has adjusted to playgrounds and walks outside and nothing better mess with my plans. 🙂

  10. Well, perhaps something to watch.

I’ve been thinking we might be going back to cool or cool and damp ….

    But …..

12z GFS has us warm sectoring on 4/25 and 4/27.

Could the trof set up far enough west so these systems behave that way, as opposed to sliding out underneath us and giving us a cool rain ?

Climatologically in April, I’d favor cool rain over inside runners with warm sectors ……

    1. Of course, if you get the warm sector scenario and the right combination of dynamics and sunshine, then interior New England, away from the cooling effects of the ocean, could be fair game for thunderstorms.

  11. The latest CPC shows well below normal temps for most of the CONUS for the forseeable future except for the West coast and Alaska so unless TK extends his Florida vacation until May, he will not be bringing any warmth when he returns and will probably be facing the damp/chilly temps. I guess I won’t be taking my winter coat to the dry cleaners anytime soon.

Based on those CPC temp maps, Berkshire snow would not surprise me…not to mention locations like the Worcester Hills and southern NH as well.

Have a good trip TK! 😀

    1. Yup, big ridge out there and in response, cool air to dive south into central US.

Will the SE ridge strengthen enough to keep the immediate east coast above average too ?

        1. LOL, thats how it might work out …….

But, perhaps the immediate east coast. If low pressure areas track up to our west, then episodes of warm air may be able to briefly flow up the coast ahead of cold frontal passages to make overall temps avg milder than first thought.

But, I’m skeptical of the 12z GFS and its warm sectors along the east coast, so, we shall see.

          1. and now, the 18z GFS looks decidedly cooler around 4/25 and 4/26.

We’ll see what the trend is the next few days. 🙂

  12. Will be posting an update soon!

Packing for the trip is done!

Just relaxing and doing a few odds/end this evening…
