Tuesday Forecast Update

9:45PM

SUMMARY…
Again no significant changes. High pressure brings great weather for midweek, a front from the west and moisture from the south brings some unsettled weather Friday and Saturday before dry weather returns Sunday. A low pressure area is expected to bring wet weather early next week. The question remains timing of wet weather regarding the Boston Marathon on Monday. At this early stage I continue to believe that the wet weather will hold off til later Monday, but this is still far enough away for this to change.

    1. I think there will be a shot at showers / t-storms each day but none of the days will be wash-outs.

      1. We always went this week and forecast was just that but it never stopped the fun. Enjoy. I’m glad you are getting away and to such a magical place

  1. Meanwhile, up here, in the great frozen north ……

It is remarkably mild at Logan for 10pm ……. 59F.

  2. Beautiful start to the day !

GFS moving back and forth with regards to 6-10 and 10-14 day storm track near New England.

00z back again to a stronger SE ridge, which in turn, pushes the storm track a little further west and offers milder scenarios.

  3. Thanks TK and enjoy your trip.

BEAUTIFUL morning today. Destined for the 60s for certain. We deserve this nice stretch of weather. It has been well earned.

Eric said Ony 62 for Boston. C’mon we can do a bit better than that. Man your
    hair dryers!! πŸ˜€

  4. Interesting with the rivers and streams so full we have a red flag. Someone here said the slow/late melt contributed to lack of mud season. Seems it contributed to red flag also. Had we had rains and faster melt, we may well have had significant flooding.

    1. Very fortunate that it worked out that way, even if we have red flag days.
As long as folks are careful, there doesn’t have to be any fires.
With a fast snow melt with rain storms, floods would have been
inevitable and could have been devastating. We lucked out for sure.

One added benefit. It allows for a great start to the fishing season! πŸ˜€

    1. Well, the key here is to not START any FIRES.
I don’t think we get spontaneous combustion, so some one
would have to start a fire stupidly like tossing a lit cigarette out of a
car/truck window. OR worse yet, purposely start a fire and believe it or not,
there are people out there that get a charge out of doing just that.

    1. I can assure you that the draft will in NO WAY take over for most. Can you say BORING and huge waste of time.

      1. I think your completely kidding yourself, more people will be watching the draft than the redsox game, locally too,, wanna bet?

  5. I love football but I never get too excited about the draft. I get excited when training camp opens since to me those cool crisp autumn days are not far away and were getting closer to the start of another season

  6. Logan may be on borrowed time temp wise today.

The wind is slowly coming around. It was 310 degrees only a few hours ago and now is 330 degrees.

Speaking of temps, I sense that a mild to warm scenario is more possible now Saturday. I’m hearing 65F to 70F from some of the radio/TV broadcasts I heard/saw this morning.

Chiarelli dismised as #Bruins GM. Interim not named. No mention of Julien’s status.

Now just get RID of Julien and we’ll be all set for another Cup Run. πŸ˜€

    1. I told you before this is how I saw it . Big mistake if the let Jules go , big mistake. I don’t see it happening. Good move regarding GM. Boy the wind is howling here in the city.

    2. I don’t see this anymore you sure? I checked 3 sites. Maybe it’s because dumb ass finally got convicted . What a shame he had it made.

      1. Now it’s on. Cam current coaches stating on for now. Excellent move. Jules ain’t going no where I don’t think.

        1. You are entitled to your opinion of course, but I never
liked Julien, NEVER! Not even when he accidentally
won the cup. You cannot be successful with his style, imho. He may be a nice guy and I have nothing against him personally, but I can’t stand him as a coach.
Did I say I can’t stand him? Well I can’t! Never have and NEVER will! Just the way it is. πŸ˜€

  9. Its amazing to me when back in late January the 8 teams in the eastern conference looked set and it was just where was Boston and the other teams going to get seeded. My how things have changed. Bruins and Kings big surprises not making it to the playoffs.

  10. You look since 2011 when they won the Cup. Very lucky to get back to the Cup Finals in 2013 thanks to Toronto blowing a 4-1 lead in the fourth period Presidents trophy last year get knocked out 2nd round and this year no playoffs. Going to be very interesting what moves they will make in terms of players in the offseason.

    1. Really overachieved though on temps before it kicked in. 67F !!!!

I cant believe it possible, but ignoring the full reservoirs and rivers due to snow melt, when I see temps overachieve in early spring, my first thought is that the top layer of the ground is getting dry.

I’m pretty sure today’s temps have overachieved by 1 to 4 degrees.

      1. Eric called for Logan High to be 62.

        That’s a FULL 5 Degrees worth of over achievement! πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

  13. Its breezy where I am today but the sun is out and as long as the sun is out I don’t mind a breeze.
Hoping for plenty of those breezes when we get to summer.

  14. Taunton fire reporting that winds from a brush fire on Route 24 blowing flames towards houses in East Taunton.

  15. I think your completely kidding yourself sue , πŸ™‚ more people will be watching the draft than the redsox game, locally too,, many in denial especially in Boston and it’s not even close, it has changed dramatically even here the last 2 decades πŸ™‚

    1. The Bruins wrote a letter to the Nhl last year to not have the games during NFL draft times bc the TV ratings for a hockey playoff game were getting hugely effected, you can look it up πŸ™‚ welcome to the modem day sports in New England πŸ™‚

  16. Its been a dry 6 weeks ……. Precip departures since March 1st …..

    Logan : -2.41 inches

    Hartford : -1.16 inches

    Providence : -1.85 inches

    Worcester : -2.83 inches

      1. I think its a good part of the reason the temps were warmer than expected yesterday.

Another full sun day coming today, will be interesting to see if inland communities overachieve again today. I don’t have much hope for coastal communities with an onshore wind. πŸ™‚

    1. Beautiful, Coastal. Love the name but could stare at the nighttime photo of the deck for hours.

  17. Can feel the cooler airmass in place this morning …….

GFS today showing 6 to 10 day and 8 to 14 day storm track/pattern more climatologically favorable for spring in New England.

If there are systems, they either track underneath us as opposed to west of us.

  18. 7 AM at Logan 46 Degrees with CALM wind.
Ya think there might be a sea breeze developing.

Going to be a refrigerator along the coast. Logan may not reach 50.
    We shall see. πŸ˜€

    1. Agreed, quite chilly !

      Something I noticed yesterday …..

Late afternoon, when the seabreeze briefly kicked in, with the strong sun and the light onshore flow pushing the top layer of ocean water towards the coastline, the Boston Harbor buoy water temp went from 40F in the morning, to 45F in the afternoon.

      1. it maxed out at 45.7F at 5:50 pm yesterday.

with a light NW wind this morning, its back down to 41.5F.

      2. Yup, you will see that feature all Summer long.
That’s why temps will probably be in the upper 40s, but a slight chance they could still manage to make it to the lower
50s, depending on wind direction and strength.

Lower 50s is the Cap for sure. Don’t see it getting higher than that. It will be interesting watch none-the-less. πŸ˜€
I’m still thinking upper 40s. We shall see.

  19. 9 AM Logan

    Temperature: 50.0 Β°F (10.0 Β°C)
    Dewpoint: 17.1 Β°F (-8.3 Β°C)
    Relative Humidity: 27 %
Wind: East at 4.6 MPH (4 KT)

Winds are still light. I expect that East wind to kick up to 15 mph or more.
I fully expect it to be a Nasty East Wind today. No way it stays this light.

BUT it may stay light enough long enough to allow Logan’s temperature to make
it into the lower 50s, perhaps mid-50s before falling off to the upper 40s.

  20. Logan 10AM Obs

Wind East at 8mph, creeping up.
    Temperature 51

meanwhile, Bedford is at 52 and Norwood at 54

So far, the East Wind is not affecting the temperature too much when compared
to inland locations. We shall see what that differential is this afternoon. πŸ˜€

  21. Very Interesting Tim Kelley Tweet this morning.

Snow at Sugarloaf Maine Saturday? Yes
Sunny 70 degrees at Fenway Park Saturday? Yes
Can’t wait to explain this on #NECN tonight

  22. 11AM Obs

Logan 51 with SE wind at 7

    Bedford 55
    Norwood 56

The discrepancy continues to spread. πŸ˜€

  23. Gotta love the weather ….

Yesterday Mt. Washington spent most of the day in the mid 20s and our area’s surface temps were 65F to nearly 70F.

Today, its currently 37F and we’re going to struggle to get inland areas much above the low 60s.

  24. 1PM Logan Obs

Temp 53, wind EAST at 10 mph.

MUCH MUCH better than I had expected.

It is really nice out there. Downtown it is milder than 53. Really close to 60.
My care was reading 59 in the Fenway Park area.

  25. Just found out today the foreperson on the Aaron Hernandez jury was the operations manager for my company’s cafeteria!

  26. That’s what I was talking about.

    Dewpoint: 26.1 Β°F (-3.3 Β°C)
    Relative Humidity: 38 %
Wind: East at 17.3 MPH (15 KT)

I expected 15+ mph and there it is.

    Surprised it’s still 51.

  27. The CPC continues to show well below normal temps for most of the CONUS for the rest of this month. I hope we get more consistent warmth come May.

    1. It has been showing that for quite a while but I’ll take 60-65 all day long. Next week however we could be stuck in the 50’s with periodic unsettled weather. Ugh.

        1. I guess technically speaking we will be EXACTLY on average temp wise (55) for next week but I still wish it was in the 60s-low 70s+ like it is elsewhere in the CONUS. I am greedy I guess. πŸ˜€

It seems every spring we get crappy temps and by the time it finally does gets warm, it is the first day of summer on the calendar anyway.

  28. I think today was the nicest day of this whole stretch, made 68F here. About as nice a stretch of weather as I can remember. Maybe it just seems that way because of the winter. Looks pretty unsettled for the next 7-10 days though. A couple nice days in there but probably a few spring stinkers as well. The 12z Euro was cringeworthy.

  29. 5 day streak at Logan of 60F or higher …..

68F, 69F, 65F, 67F and it did evidently make it to 60F very late this afternoon.

Perhaps that gets to 7 consecutive days by Saturday evening.

I dont think its hit 70F yet at Logan though. Maybe that gets accomplished Saturday.

  30. So after reading the NWS morning discussion, sounds like there’s some small opportunity for convection locally tomorrow ?

  31. Good morning!! Light rain temp is 43 degrees πŸ™‚

Was anybody watching the national news this morning? They were talking about how boston is the last American city to host 2024 Olympics and they r talking about how unamerican Boston is, yes this was on the news. I guess because people are trying to turn away the Olympics from America, weird concept and I don’t agree with it, but it’s the sense across America, Boston across America is disliked by so many in our country. its very weird, not sure this is good for the long term.

    1. You know the movie 6th sense where the kid says: “I see dead people”?
With reference to your statement, I see “Stupid People”.

    2. I disagree over a 1000%. What national news said that? Please quote if you post stuff like this.

      1. Hadi we all know that Boston is one of the most admired cities in the country. And he won’t cite a source, but then we don’t need one to know it is bunk πŸ™‚

    3. The US and Olympic committee has expressed a strong desire to bring the olympics back to America. While I agree Boston is not the best city to host logistically, I disagree about is being “unAmerican.” But I ask you, what really is American? We are so diverse at this point how can one really define American.

  32. 52 wet degrees. I enjoy this type of Spring day where the air feels damp and you can smell the ground. The forsythia is a bit more yellow. Buds on trees are a bit more swollen. Spring in New England. Rebirth.

      1. I think that is why I never mind the ups and downs of the start of any season. Spring shows it more, perhaps, than the other three. But then spring has to shake off what I think is the most severe of the seasons.

hmmmmm – Emily? Brian? I feel a poem here πŸ™‚

    1. Only after this stretch of really nice days can I appreciate a day like today as well πŸ™‚ Even though its not significant rain, we need it badly. My lawn is just now starting to show signs of greening up and it is thirsty. Right before the forsythia turn yellow is the perfect time to get some fertilizer down. Plans for that this sunday to allow monday’s rain to soak it all in πŸ˜€

  33. Charlie you must tell us the new source. You can’t hide behind your keyboard making a comment like. It’s disrespectful to our city to make up a lie like that. I know you should ignore your comment but this is over the top. You know you have no credibility with anyone who reads this blog. I am sure you don’t care.

  34. Brief post from me:

Charlie, Boston is a beloved city across all of America, and that includes people from states that tend not to like Massachusetts liberals. American tourists flock to this city because of its history, architectural beauty, cultural richness, elite higher education, medical Mecca, walkability, and some even come here to experience our weather! Boston is a world class city. Ask almost any European who visits Boston and they will tell you that it ranks right up there with some of Europe’s famous cities.

On to weather: Interesting note from the UK Met Office about a week ago that suggested the British Isles (and this usually also means the Northwestern tier of the Continent) will be well above normal in terms of temperature and below normal in terms of rainfall through June. With the exception of a 3-day spell 10 days ago in which gales and rains lashed the Isles, the UK has indeed experienced a very warm spring (more like summer now) and little precipitation. If my theory is correct, the extended period of really nice weather in that part of the world corresponds to generally less-than-nice weather in Boston and vicinity. Not terrible weather, but not optimal, not warm, and frequent rainy periods.

I hope all are well at WHW.

    1. Nicely said, Joshua. There are a fair amount of folks here who have friends and family from all over the country and all over the world as well as many who travel extensively. They would echo that those they know and those they have met will heartily agree with you.

  35. Nicely said Joshua.

I have had the fortune of traveling all over the world and every time people ask where I live and I say Boston, I get ohhh but what a great city etc….

      1. 989 mb system near the benchmark. Surface temp at boston
