SUMMARY…
The previous discussion holds generally true. There is one change to make, however, and that is to forecast a frontal boundary north of the region on Sunday to slip far enough south to position itself to become a back-door cold front that may invade southeastern NH and eastern MA sometime during Monday. Also, a little more detail can be added for Tuesday, regarding the track of Subtropical Storm Ana, or whatever remains of it, as it may be close enough to bring a period of rain to parts of southeastern MA and RI. The rest of the forecast is generally unchanged and will be updated with a full discussion on Sunday.

Thanks TK π
Thanks TK. You can feel the humidity creeping up
I’ve already heard a large handful of complaints about it being “too hot” this week.
In fact, yesterday I heard from 2 different people, one near the coast complaining how cold it was, and one out in western MA complaining about the fact it was “so hot and muggy”.
It would be more frustrating if it didn’t provide me with regular doses of laughter. π
Ugh. You do know my comment was an observation and not a complaint.
Yes indeed. And mine was just an observation. π
This is the first year I’ve had “Pollenitis” (My fancy way of saying allergies π ) The allergy pill is working though. π
Emily I read that the greenhouse gases are making them worse. I never had them but in the past decade or so notice them slightly. Today, having spent the day in the garden, I am suffering. I feel awful for those who have them all of the time.
I used to get them really badly but in the last 15-20 years they have gotten less and less for me, without medication. I think changes are due more to regular changes in body chemistry than anything else.
We have reduced the amount of plant life and trees with all our development. Perhaps somehow they “sense” this and are making more pollen for survival, so therefore those that do suffer get hit pretty hard.
Do you recall the source that linked pollen to greenhouse gasses?
I don’t TK. If you search, you will find a bunch of articles. I have never had allergies. My kids have never had allergies. Most of their friends have never had allergies. And a good percent of those I speak say they now do. And they are often yearly rather than seasonal.
I found this but it alarmed me more because or said we must keep levels below 450 and we just passed 400
No complaints! I have found the last 36 hours some of the most fascinating, exciting weather of the year. A 43 degree same day high temperature difference between Springfield and Boston on Friday, a 44 degree warm up Friday from low to high in Springfield. A 10 degree dew point jump in 4 hours today. All fun stuff if we could get beyond big snowstorms as the only weather to “hype”
Agree!!
What do you think about the possibility of that boundary slipping at least into northeastern and eastern MA on Monday at some point and putting these areas into the marine air?
Around here, a near certainty this time of year!
Sorry to jump in, but you know how I feel about BD cold fronts. π
Agree as well. It has been glorious. Isn’t it funny how in December the complaint was no snow and ….well we know what happened. And then in April it was crappy spring and that is a distant memory. What is that saying….all things come to_______
Answer to Todayβs AccuWeather Trivia Quizzes.
1. What do you call the smell of rain?
A. Petrichor
B. Rainphobia
C. Smellofrain
D. Scentofrain
The answer is A though technically I do not believe this totally correct. I think petrichor really refers to the smell of rain after a very dry or dusty period or something like that.
2. Hurricanes need strong vertical wind sheer in order to survive.
A. True
B. False
The answer is B.
Hehehehe. I covered myself with A, C and E π
Thank you longshot
The explanation this season for the “worst pollen season ever”, which by the way it is declared by the media annually, and also incorrectly, is simple.
Several flowering bushes and 2 major trees were delayed 1 to 2 weeks while other bushes and 2 other major trees were about on time. The combination made for all of these to release pollen together this season, as opposed to not doing so many other seasons. This in turn results in higher pollen counts.
As someone who suffered allergies badly as a kid and young adult, bad enough to have to get shots weekly for several years, I got into tracking which pollens were out and when, and once in a while when we have a certain type of Winter, there is a pollen “convergence” that makes for a very hard punch. This is one of those years. Thankfully for myself my allergies have dulled ever since I hit about age 30.
The allergy perfect storm π
Wellllll. I tested negative for all of those years ago. Problem they were looking for wasn’t allergies but an inner ear peoblem. And this season is more in line with years ago. Tom, if it is all right with you, I think we need to change that old title to doubting Vicki.
http://blog.aarp.org/2015/05/04/sneezing-allergy-season-may-be-worst-in-years/
Nationwide aarp says it is earlier in areas and a combination which of course makes the most sense.
Doubting Thomas ……… Doubting Vicki …………. alright, its all yours. π π
Hehehehe. Thank you for the honor
Hearing from our relatives in Wilmington, NC ……
Wind and rain setting in.
Funny, they might get more wind out of a moderate tropical storm, because its going just west of them ………. versus category 2 hurricane Arthur, that missed to their east by 40 miles.
Snow, severe weather, tropical system in the lower 48 tonight.
I assume everyone here knows what weather event occured on May 9-10, 1977.
Yes, sir. Vicki had a bit of a math problem at 8 am however. Was exciting
π π π
I see your post from this morning now…Thanks for remembering Vicki. Today is also V-E Day as well. I know that Russia celebrated it today with parades, etc. but as far as I know the US did not.
I had forgotten VE Day and am ashamed.
I remember in part because it is my cousins birthday. Sadly he passed away in 1995 and I miss him terribly.
Barry now on board for the Monday back-door.
Then it is now a certainty for sure. π Booo

Happy Mother’s Day!!!
Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mom’s out there including mine!
A and D.
Happy Mother’s Day
Piggy-backing on Vicki’s comment yesterday morning on the May 9-10, 1977 snow: I remember no school for two days, not because of major accumulation, but because the snow was so heavy and the leaves were already out on the trees that the trees fell and dropped power lines that caused many communities to lose power, including mine. I also remember having to shovel off the high school track so we could have track practice!!!
Happy Mother’s Day to all moms, step-moms, nanas and all who fulfill that beautiful roles in our lives. We thank you, love you and God bless you! Have a special, happy and love-filled day! “Mother” Nature seems to be happy around here today, too!
What a lovely Mothers Day wish π
I found this on the storm. I don’t recall a lot in Belmont. However, we bought our home in framingham two Years later and some of the decorative trees were still healing. One lovely dogwood never really got back to what it was and we had to take it down the next year

Happy Mother’s Day!
TK, how much rain are we potentially looking at from the remnants of Ana?
Probably None!!
Zero. Not even sure it clips the Cape either now.
Oh wow! Ok, thanks. I was hoping we got at least some. Very very dry out there.
We will see some on Tuesday but not all areas see rain. Some see mostly cloudy skies while others receive a few scattered downpours. The rest of the week appears dry as another ridge tries to get re-established.
My friend saw 9 tornadoes yesterday on her chase. Amazing.
Cool. Where? Ok, Tx, KS or CO?
Thanks.
CO to KS.
Whew. Scary exciting.
TK-Agree on backdoor tomorrow and think it penetrates a bit deeper than modeled. Perhaps impacting into the 495 belt?
Tuesday the front moves back to the NNE and temps will rebound again and will make run at 90 once more in WNE.
I think generally we remain fairly dry this week throughout most of SNE. I went for a trail run today and I noticed how low many of the streams were. You know my motto, sometimes the atmosphere just wants to snow or rain and sometime the atmosphere just does not want to rain and you got to forecast dry until proven otherwise.

Still will turn out less active than average.
Seems later starts have produced many serious hurricanes. IIRC a Hugo was late summer…..sept???? Have to check some of the others. Do you have comparative data TK?
So 7 named storms before Hugo. And wasnt Andrew later in summer?
88
! Love it π
Great beach day !!
Its too hot …..
Now, being in Marshfield, right on the ocean, we’ve been cold. I dont think we’ve had as many acclimating days of mild to warm weather as inland locations have had.
All of a sudden, today arrives and the WSW wind and full sun bring us to 88F.
I feel like I’ve gone from modified winter weather straight to the height of summer.
I hope that back door front offers some relief tomorrow.
Looking for 60F to 70F, then in June 70F to 80F, then this stuff in July thru mid August. π π π π
C’mon, dew points in upper 50s makes this nice. π
60 dP even here for two days. And yes beautiful. I took glass out of porch so it is all screen. Well except the glass on the screen that tore when ice sheet came into family room. I can’t wait until it is dark and I can sit out there
Perhaps so …..
I know its very nice now.
Down to 77F with a beautiful breeze, had dinner on the deck in the nice breeze.
I am envious, tom
We have Melissas. For those of you who have not been introduced to melissas, my older granddaughter catches the little green worms and plays with them as pets…….ya, I know but I suspect she’ll be a vet. It isn’t the Melissas I mind but the thousands of miniscule black droppings of poop that get into absolutely everything.
So the deck is currently a hazard area for eating. π
Do these melissas have a short life or will they be around all summer ?i
I think we have them about a month until they destroy the leaves
My go to guy at a greenhouse in wayland said they have Introduced a fly that will eat them but it’ll take a couple of years for it to be established.
Looks like highs in Eastern sections topped off around 88. Logan “could” have snuck up to 89 and even perhaps 90 in between obs. Don’t know.
Under a severe thunderstorm warning here in Plymouth, NH. Strong looking storm, watching it roll in… Hope it makes it!
Whoa. Cool
Oh dear. Might slip under you. I’ll use the hair dryer down here and see if I can keep it north
Didn’t quite make it! A little thunder and lighting but nothing too bad… Oh well lol, thanks for trying the hair dryer π
Hahaha. You are welcome π

Ugh. Thanks Ace
Agree DP are ok but we had to put AC in the kids Roma’s it was 82 degrees. I also put mine in as I hate sleeping in warm temps.
We have all ceiling fans cleaned and running. I turned our windows AC on and got bees. I’m pretending it didn’t happen as it is one less thing to deal with π
I wonder if whatever is left of Ana’s circulation passing to our SE is going to help yank this backdoor cool airmass further south and west ….. or …….. may delay the warm air returning into eastern New England Tuesday ?
Andrew was late August. That was a very quiet year with one intense but tiny hurricane.
I don’t think Ana’s circulation will have much of an impact on the warm air getting back in on Tuesday. It may have a greater impact on Wednesday when it’s far away and absorbed by a mid latitude cyclone, dragging some nice dry air in.
That sounds good, thanks TK.
That’s all it takes unfortunately. And it did billions in damage. Sadly
The Week Ahead is posted!
Surprise Surprise! Nothing really unusual coming up this week either. Just weather! Or should I say, Spring in New England. I suppose if you want to look for something a little abnormal it’s the dryness. But I can’t say that’s a surprise either.
