The Bad In The Good

1:01AM

COMMENTARY…
This weather pattern is good if you like nice weather. But this weather pattern is bad in the sense that we continue to be quite dry across southeastern New England, despite some areas of showers on Tuesday. Those showers were simply not enough to be of any significant benefit. So, what is coming up now? This forecast goes out into early next week and includes the entire Memorial Day Weekend. Let’s take a look.

SUMMARY…
Upper level low pressure passes across New England today while a brisk westerly flow transports dry air into the region. Sun will share the sky with clouds. The jet stream will be hanging out close by into late week and this will allow a couple disturbances passing south of the region to spread some cloudiness across the sky at times. This represents a change from the previous thinking that Thursday would be a sunny day. Everything will be shunted to the south by Friday as a cold front drops across New England, and this will set us up for a decent Memorial Day Weekend. But the weekend itself will feature some contrast, as some areas will be as cold as the 30s to start Saturday morning and may end up near 80 before Sunday is over. This will take place as the core of a chilly air mass arrives Friday night and exits later Saturday, with a more significant warm-up on Sunday. By Monday, a front may be nearby but may be moisture-starved, so optimistically the forecast will include clouds but leave rain out for now. By Tuesday, a shot of warm and somewhat humid air may battle with an approaching front for a shower and thunderstorm threat.

  1. Judah is saying probably not a very hot summer but
Probably a warm one with near normal precipitation. He emailed me this morning and I
Guess did his summer outlook with Harvey last night .

  2. On average drier than normal summer, I am confident in that aspect.

Temps should average near to slightly above average. Temps will be about average for extended periods, but I believe we will end up slightly above average for the monitored period, as the time-frames featuring above average temperatures will be much above.

  3. This summer will be dry, but temperatures will fluctuate… July will not be the warmest month…. June or august will be. I think we hit the switch after memorial day/first week of june.
80s will be common with a couple of heat waves Overall average temperatures.

    1. I agree about hitting the switch, maybe 2nd or 3rd week into June. The fourth of july holiday is usually the switch to the real heat. Its like that magical dividing line. I also think, like last summer, even though there will be a few 90+ degree days, we will rarely see if any days in the upper 90’s

  4. I already wished TK a Happy Birthday on Facebook but figured I should cover all my bases so……Happy Birthday again TK!!!

  5. So ….. is that a convective feedback issue with the 12z GFS that develops a coastal system the next few days just south and east of us ? I don’t recall seeing that low before.

I don’t feel like I have a lot of confidence in the latter part of the Memorial Day weekend forecast because I feel as though its a run to run flip flop as to whether there’s a struggle to push warm air back into the region or whether it moves in fairly easily. I think this might have an effect on whether there’s more or less showers possible on Monday.

  6. Thank you everyone. 🙂
Between here and FB I’m feeling the love over 100 times. I don’t like to make a big deal of myself but it sure feels nice to know people care. 😀

Cool & gusty out there today. The sun is nice when it’s out, but you feel a bit of a chill when it’s not shining!

  7. Some very chilly nights upcoming, Friday night might be record breaking in some areas. Great sleeping weather 🙂

  8. Is there a WHW birthday today? Sorry I missed it. Been a Zoo at work.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TK. Just remember, no matter how many you have, you will
NOT catch up with me! 😆

It got decidedly Cooler later this PM and into this early evening.

    58.8 here. Brrrr

I’m liking what I am hearing regarding the Summer forecast and Mrs. OS will like
    as well. Hope it verifies.

  9. Re nights. Daughter has new veggie garden. She is in valley area of Uxbridge. Last time there was a frost warning she got to low 40s. They say not to let sheets or covers touch plants so she is deciding whether to just leave or cover and have them touch. Any thoughts on temps for that area? Or how to cover?

  10. Not sure if anybody saw it but Judah is calling for a
Warm summer not overly hot but warm . This will
Work as last summer was way to cool. Of course this
    Is just his opinion .

  11. Hadi, u mentioned cold nights coming up. Any chances for frost down my way? We’re gonna be planting our garden on Friday.

    1. I think it’s just Friday night Ace. It will be interesting
To see those overnight temps on Saturday. All in all
It’s looking like a nice three day weekend. Working outside
I have not known how to dress lately lol.

    2. I wonder if this is one of those times when ….. its a general 36F to 40F, but Taunton, Norwood, Martha’s Vineyard and the usual cold locations have a shot at 32F or 33F ……… Is your location Ace one of those thats susceptible to a colder reading than most surrounding areas ?

        1. If your schedule permits, maybe waiting past Friday to plant your garden might be best.

Of course Friday night is going to be cold, we’ll be camping and evidently, freezing.

          1. Ugh. I don’t think that’s the first time you have had to say that. Enjoy you getaway, Tom.

  12. Ace exactly as mentioned. The colder spots that are usually cooler are most likely to get impacted. Low lying areas, valley etc…

  13. Again thanks for the birthday wishes!
New blog will be posted first thing in the morning…
