  1. Thank You TK.

Here’s a couple of re-posts from earlier this morning:

    Good morning.

I still think chances of rain/thunder better today than on Sunday.
Still not a guarantee. We shall see.

IF one believe the piss-poor-performing HRRR then, much better.
Nam gets us as well, so we shall see.

Cape is adequate but not impressive. There is dry air aloft which could limit things, so
we’ll just have to wait and see.

    Re Red Sox.

Remember the discussion about Dan Shaughnessy calling the red sox Fool’s Gold.
After their recent performance, who could argue with him. They teased us with 4 wins
in a row, but couldn’t finish it off with the Yankees, winning 1 of 3 from them AND then AND then, what a performance in Anaheim. Oh Boy. STINKORAMA!!!!!
POOTHETICVILLE!!! Indeed, they were Fool’s Gold!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AND WHY oh WHY oh WHY oh WHY does the manager insist on NOT putting the best team on the field night after night after night. What an IDIOTIC MORON CRAPMASTER that TURD is!(@#((!@#()&!@*&#!&*(@#&*(!@*#&!&@#(&
Did anyone look at Ortiz trying to swing against the Lefty Santiago yesterday?
OH boy that was DISGUSTING. I could put a better swing on the ball Even at my age! PUTRID! PUTRID! PUTRID! and WHY is Crapoli playing. yeaH I know he got a hit. Pure luck is all. Didn’t even look good. SHIP his ass out of town will ya!!!!!!!

I am SICK TO DEATH of this team!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. Happy to hear from 2 talk radio stations this morning that they think
the manager doesn’t have a clue either. In fact, the whole management
      team hasn’t a clue! POOOOOTHETIC!!!

    2. The positive thing os,, football is just about here (Patriots), there expecting up to 30K at some of these Patriots training camp practices. 🙂

  2. Thank you cloudiness! Thank you, thank you.
Also had a few sprinkles on the way into the office.

  3. Latest indications are much cloudiness and a few showers/sprinkles around this morning to early afternoon. Then at least partial clearing with some destabilization
of the atmosphere with convection late this afternoon and/or evening.

High resolution models showing this feature. Not that they are to be totally trusted, but we shall see what develops.

In the meantime I am so thankful for all of this cloudiness keeping the temperature
climb at bay. 9AM Boston temp = 78, which is not low for this time of day, but
it clearly would have been higher with ample sunshine. 😀

  4. 10AM Boston, 77 with dew of 63 and CALM winds. Hmmm Might a sea breeze be
    on the way? 😆

I’m LIKING that temperature! Let’s keep it that way!!

  5. No heatwave for Boston unless something dramatic happens in the coming hours. Doesn’t feel hot today, and also doesn’t feel like there’s much heat potential. Thankfully.

Sadly, I’m done with the Red Sox. Not forever, but I can’t follow this dreadful team. Worst in the AL: Talk about getting no bang for your buck! Unbelievable. John Henry is a smart person. He must understand that his GM has failed the team and may have put the team in a position it hasn’t been in since the early 1960s. Cherington is a nice person, but inept. He’s got to go. Farrell just doesn’t mentally prepare his team, or put the best team out on the field. He’s got to go. Pablo should be dealt to SF. The Giants need a 3rd baseman, and would be willing to trade prospects for Pablo if the Red Sox would eat about $30 million of his contract. I’ll bring Pablo to the airport – and order a supersize happy meal for him on my way to Logan. I think Hanley should be dealt as well. There are contending teams looking for power. Uehara has trade value, too. Build up the farm, along with some strong bullpen arms. Get rid of deadwood, for nothing if need be: Napoli, Victorino, Breslow, Masterson, the list goes on and on. Cleaning house is the only remedy for this disaster.

I don’t care much for football, but I am a casual fan, I guess. I do look forward to hockey, which is around the corner.

Interesting article on Arctic ice formation. Jibes with what’s been going on in Nunavut. This summer has been much cooler than last. And last summer was cooler than normal. Bodes well for ice formation in that part of the world. Indeed, there are still blocks of ice cluttering the waterways in Kimmirut!

    1. I concur and thanks for the link. Interesting.

      re: Red Sox
What gets me even more that the STUPID dumb-ass contracts, is the
Manager’s insistence on putting CRAP on the field. David Ortiz is hitting
about a buck40 against lefties and the TOAD of a manager has him in ther
against one of the toughest left handers in the Major leagures. Go Figure.
Pathetic. Not going to win that way. AND why oh why is the ONLY
Red Sox all star on the bench in Anaheim??? Makes perfect sense doesn’t
it. The manager is a Jack-Ass and needs to be FIRED yesterday!)(@#(!&@()#&)!@&(#*(!*@(#*

    2. The Sox, I believe, are giving Napoli his last chance at coming through in his last year of his contract.
Papi is in decline. By next year I expect Ramirez will be the DH and that Papi will be gone. They need Ramirez out of LF and as the permanent DH. They have 72M invested in him and he is a fine hitter.
The good news is they have some fine young players. Also some good young arms that have not come through for them yet.
It is now about setting up for 2016, which becomes very interesting.
They are 3 World Series ahead of where I ever expected them to be. After 1986 I accepted we would never ever win. I have been in heaven ever since ’04.

      1. Re: Pitching

        1. They paid a boatload on money for Porkcello who is totally
and completely useless. They are stuck.
        2. They paid considerable money for Just another Joe. He is useless. You think maybe St. Louis knew something?
        3. Masterson is useless.
        4. Steven Wrong is useless.
        5. Eduardo Rodriguez showed great promise and then started telegraphing his pitches. Supposedly they worked with him
and he fixed it. Now yesterday, same ole Crap. He just purchased his ticket back to Pawtucket! Ya think just maybe
Baltimore KNEW what they were doing in including him
in the trade for Miller? Makes one wonder, doesn’t it. I am
afraid Rodriguez will become another “potential” arm that
        will NOT ever materialize.
        6. Rest of the kids on the farm. Bring em on and let’s see what they can do. They can’t possible do worse than the useless
pile of horse crap they have now.

    3. I agree with your assessment Joshua and all management directly involved with the product on the field needs to go. To your other point, unfortunately, most fans will not accept sucking for several years in order to develop the farm system. Ironically, and what’s so frustrating with this team in general since 2007 (2013 was a fluke IMO) is they have sucked anyway with a mix of young players and veterans. There in lies the problem. Current management is inept at finding a balance of young talent and good veteran presence. They have overvalued/mismanaged some of the young talent and brought in overpaid fat and lazy veterans. This is a recipe for disaster and an example of management breakdown from all levels.

        1. I would have to place blame on the scouting department as well. Especially when it comes to evaluating talent from other teams.

  6. Last thing on the Sox: Pawtucket Red Sox must have the highest paid players in the history of the minor leagues, with the likes of Craig, Kelly, and Castillo being regulars (!), and of course Masterson and Victorino doing stints there. It’s astounding how much money is being paid to players to play for a Triple A team.

  7. One more `last thing’ on the Sox: There may be light at the end of the tunnel if the Red Sox seriously clean house and get some hands-on coaches and instructors. Bring Jim Rice back as a batting coach, or Easler. Both men knew how to hit and how to coach. They were both actively involved. Also, an active, engaged pitching coach could help turn Joe Kelly around. He has a good arm, clearly, but he cannot `pitch.’ I’m not concerned about Rodriguez. Great arm. He’s going through some hiccups. I actually think he’s the real deal in being a Lester-like leftie going forward.

  8. My only comment on the redsox, or baseball in general, they have major problems, and have lost an entire generation of kids. This will continue to bite them in the ass for many many years, shorten the season is a 1st step, bc they lose so many casual fans once the NFL starts up in Aug. it’s become a unique fan base similar to hockey, other than that I really could care less about the red sox or baseball in general. I root for them, but if they lose, I’m not losing any sleep. 🙂

      1. Give me the Cardinals of the mid ’60s and baseball is at its peak again– without PEDs.

Gibson and Carleton in the same rotation.

        1. I’ll take baseball in general from the 50s and 60s. Different attitude. As far as Ortiz…he’s on my not so good list with a comment he made a bit ago…..so trade away

  9. I wish the baseball season was shortened. Have a 100 game season 50 against your own league 50 against the other league. Start the season in May when weather is better up in the northern states. Have the season end early to mid October.
I think Red Sox will once again be sellers which if you are seller at trade deadline your giving up on the season.

    1. I think they trade Ortiz, unless he has a no-trade clause. They can get something for him rather than just let him go after the season for zippo.

  10. You hope when make these trades as sellers you bring back some top prospects and build from there.
I don’t know if you would get much if you trade Ortiz.

  11. A few quick comments on the Red Sox from my point of view..

Porcello…a hard sinkerball pitcher who is throwing way too hard and not controlling his pitches well everything ends up in the zone. He needs to back it off and get back to basics.
Masterson….should be a middle relief guy and nothing more
Miley…shows some good stuff but a ticking time bomb imho
Rodriguez….potential to be a good pitcher but is tipping off his pitches lately…also why did Baltimore let him go so cheaply (for Andrew Miller) if he had that much potential.
Buchholz…an injury always waiting to happen…which leads me to something else.

This team has constantly been riddled by injuries the past few years. Either these players can’t play through it or if the injuries are that serious then someone has to something about their training and conditioning.

As much as I like Bogaerts he his not a #3 hitter. He has shown almost no power and you need that in the 3 and 4 spots.

Hanley and Pablo…if they do end up trying to move these guys I think they will be only able to unload one of them. If Ortiz does retire at the end of the year then I want them to keep Hanley. So far Pablo is an error machine who hits mostly singles (reminds me of Carlos Quintana…anyone remember him).

    1. Pablo has to go.
RELEASE Ortiz if he can’t be traded.
Next year, Hanley is the DH. Crapoli will be gone.
Then at first base they could play Brock Holt Or obtain someone in the off-season.
The pitchers are hopeless and I fear Rodriguez won’t pan out. Don’t get me wrong, I sincerely hope he does. He is the ONLY reason I have had the slightest
interest in this team and now that is gone.

Dump am all and go with the kids. They couldn’t possibly do any worse.

  12. Sports are a bit like weather: Cyclical. In the case of sports cyclical refers to degree of popularity. This applies to all sports, not just the major ones. Tennis, baseball, hockey, basketball, football, soccer, etc … have all had periods of decline followed by periods of heightened interest. Football is definitely number one in terms of overall popularity in 2015. Nevertheless, it’s inaccurate to say that the other major sports and soccer, too, don’t have broad appeal. They do, particularly among certain growing subgroups. With baseball, it’s the Hispanic population that has helped to somewhat offset losses in popularity. Overall, baseball has lost some support among a younger generation of fans. It has also lost a lot of support – surprisingly, in my view – among African Americans. Soccer is the sport that has the biggest growth potential: 1. Kids play soccer; 2. Massive immigration waves since 1980 are boosting soccer’s fan base from a niche group to the masses; 3. the U.S. is actually competing at a consistently decent level, both men and women. Will soccer threaten football? No, but the other sports may feel the effects.

    1. I respectfully disagree somewhat, baseball has been number 1 in America 75 yrs. until the mid and late 90’s has Football taken over the #1 spot. Basketball and hockey fight for 3rd,4th,and some places in America a 5th sport. Football has been the #1 sport for almost 20yrs, and every year there is more separation between football the #1 sport, and the rest of the sports. Suprisingly is gains more momentum each year, showing no signs of more separation. Thanks josh 🙂

  13. From Taunton NWS office as of 2PM

AS FOR DURATION OF CONVECTION…SYNOPTIC SCALE FORCING FOR ASCENT
ASSOCIATED WITH SHORT WAVE TROUGH AND ATTENDING COLD FRONT IS
FAIRLY ROBUST BY LATE JULY STANDARDS SO WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED TO
SEE A BROKEN LINE OF SHOWERS WITH EMBEDDED THUNDER MAKE IT ALL
THE WAY TO CAPE COD LATER THIS EVENING/TOWARD MIDNIGHT.

  14. So far Boston’s high is 78 with a current temp of 76 due to a sea breeze.
However, I was out not long ago and I can tell you it is WAY more than 76
back from the water’s edge. My car thermometer was reading 89, which means it
was something like 85 or 86. It feels HOT let me tell you and MUGGY for sure.

Looks like NO heat wave for Boston this time. Perhaps for other locales.

    1. I’m not sure if bz radio temp is accurate but they had 89 for Boston I just heard driving home.

        1. You’re Making my point. I do believe out there in Brighton, almost in Newton, that 89 is accurate. Not so at Logan.

  15. Well goodell has spoken…..or not. Is there really anyone who believes this is not a twisted game he is playing?

    1. The man is out of his MIND! FIRE HIM!!!! OH wait, he is in the owner’s pocket!! (save perhaps one)

Speaking at a function in Pennsylvania, Goodell said they “are focused” on the situation, but added there was no specific date they are targeting when it comes to wrapping up the process.

“We are obviously being very thorough and want to make sure we consider all aspects of his appeal,” Goodell told reporters. “We will make a decision as quickly as possible.

“There is no timeline. We want to make sure we have a fair and open process.”

The commissioner heard Brady’s appeal in New York on June 23. The quarterback is facing a four-game ban for his alleged role in the Deflategate controversy.

  16. CPC back to above normal temps / below normal precip in the 8-15. Can they flip-flop any more than they have this month? 😛

  17. I expect the storms coming out of NY to be suffering as they move east. A few heavier cells may make it through southwestern and south central MA and CT but by the time they get to RI and southeastern MA they should be just about a memory. I don’t think anything will survive to the north except maybe some elevated showers.

    1. I am looking at the loop of the Albany, NY radar. Damn if these storms
aren’t weakening EVEN before they get to the MA border.

What’s up with Taunton NWS? THey seem to think they’ll survive
all the way to the Cape. What are they smoking down there???????????

I’ll take TK to the bank before I believe a freakin word out of Taunton.

      1. In your area? I’d bet on zero. I’d be surprised if you got more than a trace of sprinkle. 😛

  18. I think the Brady suspension gets reduced to two games and he will be quaterbacking the Patriots when they play my team the Cowboys in early October.

    1. I don’t think he will take the two. He will either go to court or be dubbed guilty. Even if Goodell says one for not turning over phone, a previous precedent was set for a $50,000 fine for not turning over phone. The only way Goodell might save face (well he really can’t but….) is to drop all suspensions and fine Brady the $50,000

    2. The Patriots this year will go to the super bowl, again!! And the Patriots will be going to more Super Bowls than dallas, amazing!!

  19. Goodell is a joke. He’s intentionally punishing the Patriots, maybe because other owners don’t like the Pats’ winning ways. In any case, there’s no excuse for this to drag on. Goodell knows the Patriots have to plan ahead, but he wants to set up as many road blocks as possible.

  20. Charlie I am looking forward to when the Cowboys play the Patriots and now that we signed Dez Bryant and drafted some good defense players no reason we can’t make the playoffs and if you get in the playoffs you got a chance to win the Super Bowl.

    1. Best of luck to your Cowboys JJ. And Hadis skins also. And other teams folks on here support. I am not in a hurry for summer to end but always love the start of football

      1. Been watching and smiling Vicki. AFAIC the storms can go POOF for the rest of the summer! 😀

However, having said that it is somewhat frustrating to see all kinds of severe watches and warnings days in advance and have nothing to show for it…much like having snowstorms in the winter that don’t materialize.

        1. Indeed. That is exactly how I feel. Not that I want severe weather, but how about something. No, NOTHING!

I am getting FED up with the Taunton NWS office.

I know TK says they are good people, but I question how skilled they are. I think TK should Visit them and teach them a thing or 2.

  21. Looking at the sky out there one would think we were in for it.
Nope, but there are serious looking clouds from storm blow off.

  22. Well for what it is worth, we had huge thunderstorms 35 years ago tonight. Late. After 11 or even midnight

      1. Hello at shoppers world.

I was about to deliver first child. Amazing what you remember 🙂

      2. Man do you pick like a different location to visit each night . For living in the city you get around north , south, west I think it’s great.

  23. Did anyone really think those storms would make it here? No way!!! Nada!! Doesn’t happen often

    1. It happens when the conditions are favorable….
Today, they are not. The lapse rates absolutely suck.

      1. Conditions are hardly ever favorable in Eastern MA.
Sure once in a blue moon, but not very often. 😀

        1. That isn’t really true. There are years when we get favorable conditions over and over. Of course even then you still have to be in the right place for each occurrence.

Of course there are limitations due to ocean water nearby with many instances, but they do not always come into play as strongly each year.

          1. We can agree to disagree, Texas has a quiet year or 2, but overall it’s a very stormy part of the world, here you can get a year or 2 of above average storms, but overall it’s a quiet area 🙂

            1. Different area. Remind me please, how did TX do during their blizzards last winter. Tx in advance.

            2. You’re comparing apples and oranges.

Texas is in a part of the country that gets many more thunderstorms. Of COURSE they are going to get more and often bigger storms. I’d be worried if they didn’t.

          2. Today was exactly what I explained to many on what happens when I lived in the south. Dieing storms as they move out of the berkshires, happens almost all the time, even in above average storm years

            1. Ok now im confused. You explained to many in the south how their storms die after they pass the berkshires? They have berkshires in the south too? Who’d a thunk? 😉

  24. Home now. Rained all the way from Framingham to JP just like Sunday.
No storm, just steady light rain with big drops, if that makes sense to any one. 😀

    1. I was walking the rail line between Montvale Ave and Olympia Ave in Woburn this late afternoon and early evening and saw some really neat ones!

    2. Dragonflies have special meaning. We have one that patrols the lower part of our yard and another that patrols the top part. They are beautiful

    3. Been fishing several times this year and haven’t seen a single one
      that I can remember. 😀

I’ve almost stepped on more snakes (2).

  25. Storms behaved as expected. Here’s the thing…it’s pretty black and white here. The pattern does not favor big storms being widespread across most of the region. You have to get things to line up just right to even get a thunderstorm at all. We have years like this. We have groups of years like this. We had 3 great t-storm years in the late 1990s and a couple scattered ones in the first dozen years of the 2000s. The western Atlantic trough has been messing with everything this season so far.

  26. Nice photos, TK and OS!

Charlie, T-storms are not as much a part of our weather profile as they are west of us. But, we’ve had very active years. It should be noted too that Block Island has been hit by several major T-storms in recent weeks, as well as the far northeastern corner of Massachusetts. And let’s not forget that the coastal region (Plymouth in particular) had thunder snow in February which caused Jim Cantore to go out of his mind.

Something tells me that the Red Sox will be making an announcement very soon regarding Farrell’s dismissal. I have no inside sources, but I have a hunch. We’ll see. Cherington should be the one to go, but for some reason the owners are loyal to him.

    1. Good riddance to that idiot. Can’t be soon enough.
He is USELESS and oh by the way in case anyone doesn’t know how I
feel, he is USELESS!!! Should have been gone long ago.

Send him to Cow Falp, Iowa or some such place.

Another looserville performance by the DipSox tonight. PATHETIC!!!!
This season can’t be over soon enough.
