Wednesday Forecast Update

7:28AM

DAYS 1-5…
A broad trough of low pressure over the Northeast will persist for the period, preventing further heat. Its cool pool of air will help to trigger some scattered showers and thunderstorms during this afternoon, a few of which may produce hail, though a repeat of Tuesday’s severe weather is not likely. High pressure builds in with fair weather Thursday. Low pressure passes south of the region Friday and early in the weekend. It may be close enough to bring a touch of rain to the South Coast during Friday, then far enough offshore for a dry weekend with cooler than average temperatures each of the days.
TODAY: Partly cloudy. Scattered showers and a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs 78-85. Wind W 5-15 MPH with higher gusts.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. Possible lingering showers early. Lows 55-62. Wind light NW.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 76-83. Wind light NW to N with coastal sea breezes.
FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain South Coast. Lows 56-63. Highs in the 70s.
SATURDAY: Partly sunny. Lows 55-62. Highs 70-78, coolest coast.
SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows 57-64. Highs 73-81, coolest coast.

DAYS 6-10 (AUGUST 10-14)…
Showers possible August 10 and again later in the period. Temperatures near to below normal.

DAYS 11-15 (AUGUST 15-19)…
Episodes of scattered showers/thunderstorms especially mid to late period. Temperatures near normal.

  1. Thanks TK. Only .11 of rain yesterday. Keep feeling like I miss out with most showers and storms missing us and going over Rhode Island or north towards Norwood and Boston for a while now.

    1. We always miss it πŸ™‚
My wife has not seen 1 ounce of any severe weather criteria since she has moved here since 04. She’s very happy, as I’ve said before we would go under a tornado warning and seeing hail every year living in Texas.

  2. Thanks, TK. I just can’t believe how accurate your forecasting is. It would appear that the storm will only graze SNE. You said this at least 3 days ago. Yet, models suggested otherwise. Now, it appears the models are adjusting to conform to WHW.

OS, thanks for sending the video and pictures. You keep us well informed.

I noticed something this morning that I’ve only rarely seen: A recently hatched duckling with its mother. I assume the others were eaten by the rats. Unusual to see ducklings hatched this late. And, a baby black bird fell out of its nest (maybe because of the hail?) and into my basement well. Clearly, a recent hatchling. I don’t think the little one will make it. I thought that mating and nesting season was over. Apparently not.

    1. Poor little things.
It would seem late for the nesting, but I guess they are on their own
      schedule.

We see the ducklings and goslings on Jamaica Pond. We would watch families
daily and each day the numbers dwindled. We have Many Hawks and even
a few eagles in the area. I believe it is they who are taking the young water
fowl. If ducklings are swimming in water that have Large Mouth Bass, especially large enough fish, they too will take down a duckling.

Nature can be so beautiful yet violent and sad at other times.

    2. Very sad.

We have a red tailed hawk baby and some blue birds in a nest. Sparrows never seem to stop reproducing. We also have a new crop of baby bunnies….although mama and daddy hawk are controlling them. I do wish mama and daddy hawk would do a better job with the chipmunk population. We have holes all over our yard and have never had chipmunk holes. And as I type that, I wonder if it is their way of protecting from a nearby hawk nest.

According to NCDC, yesterday’s 2″ hail was the largest in Suffolk county MA β€ͺ#β€Žboston‬ ON RECORD: http://t.co/EklA5y2zKo h/t @KathrynProciv

    1. It was a good one, that’s for sure. Saw tons of leaves and twigs down all over, NOT from the wind, but from the hail ripping them from the trees. Very strange sight.

      1. ahhhhhh – I wondered about that also, OS, but wasn’t sure. Thank you for the clarification. Daughter said wind was bad for a very short time but that didn’t explain the leaves and twigs down all over our yard.

  4. I have never seen such widespread damage as I’ve seen for here Warwick and Cranston trees down everywhere for about 10 miles, maybe more, traffic is horrendous, lights out

        1. He said he has Never Seen (meaning anywhere) as much damage as he has seen in Cranston and Warwick.

          1. Os there is no comparison from Texas storms to here, just imagine yesterday more widespread every week, for 3 months+ straight πŸ˜‰

            1. Oh I gathered that.
Funny though, when I was there 2 years ago in Ft. Worth, we were under a Major Big time Tornado watch. Ft. Worth was smack in the middle of it. Wanna know what happened? NOTHING! Not even
a New England Garden variety thunderstorm. A few showers, flashes of lightning and accompanying thunder and poof that was it, followed by clearing and wonderfully dry air.

And for once, I was thankful nothing happened. The tornado drill for our hotel was to grab a pillow and got out into and inside hallway up against the wall. Yeah sure, that would protect against an F4 or F5, which is what was
              expected.

I had my tablet with me watching. In the event of a big one, I would have done my best to drive us out of harms way.

              1. In 5 yrs of living there I’ve been in 4 tornado shelters while the tornado siren is going off, (what an errie sound). My wife has been in many more. I saw golfball size hail failing 3 weeks after I moved there in March, and bought a damaged lightly hail dented car for half the price of a new one. I was attending UTA, driving back to the school in a tornado warning. I could hear the sirens, and it had been hailing on me for 15 straight min’s, the ground was covered with 1-2 inches of ice. Never experienced more adrenaline rush than that. You want weather, wow!!! πŸ™‚

        1. Not worded very well in my opinion, but technically, yes, you are correct. I read what I wanted to read. πŸ˜€
          I stand corrected.

So this is the worst you have seen in this area. Gotcha.

            1. I understand that. There were some
              ferocious winds for sure.

Did it provide you with extra work?

  5. Thank you, TK. I hope despite all of the weather that your dad had a nice birthday celebration.

  6. i know its inaccurate a lot of the times but the cfc on tropicaltidbits.com has been showing a warm and wet winter…….

  7. I think were going to be below normal with snowfall. I am thinking early stage 20-25 inches for Boston. I don’t see a fourth straight winter with above normal snowfall. I hope I am wrong.

  8. Hoping the Sunday forecast holds. I’ve helped organize a family fun day at Canobie for my colleagues. We have 600 people venturing up there for the day.

  9. Greetings from the beach in Marshfield. Light comfortable seabreeze kicked in about an hour ago, knocking the cumulus down overhead. 1 to 3 ft waves, decently mild ocean water temps and an incoming tide. Beautiful beach day.

  10. My total yesterday was 0.57″. Five distinct events. Three in the morning, two afternoon/evening. Nothing close to severe though.

Not willing to write it off yet, but looks like the big rainstorm for Friday/Saturday isn’t gonna happen. A win for the GFS. I really thought that one would get us. TK, you never bought on it, at least not beyond the South Coast, where they may still see something. What gave it away as mostly a miss?

    1. My daughters and families each have a house rented in Scituate next week. My youngest was stressing because Wunder had rain every day and Sat looked bad. Some of the things they have to transport in an open bed truck.

I just told her not to look anywhere but here and she would see all is well.

  11. It really doesn’t look like we see any action today in SNE.
Something would have to change in a hurry and I don’t see that happening at
    this point.

  12. Here’s something you don’t see very often…

NASA’s Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) satellite recently captured images showing a unique perspective of the Earth and far side of the moon. See it for yourself in this animation made with them.

      1. When younger I flew through massive storms. I loved it. You’d have to scrape me off the ceiling now

  13. Got a better look at car today.
    27 dings. Called ins co
I have $500 deductible on comprehensive.
Appraiser tovlook at car next week.
Its 5 years old so we’ll see.

      1. Oh and son in law is checking with a friend who has an amazing detail business. He also removes dents. Not sure if he can remove these dents but I’ll let you know. I support that by saying SIL is admittedly OCD with regard to his cars so if the guy csn it it, it will be done well.

  14. Going to be a great weather day today, perfect for anybody going to the beach . It was in the mid 50’s when I left for work very early this morning.
