      1. I suppose, but still I had the distinct impression that there would
be clouds, but more coming and going and not locked in.

Just a blah day so far. Kind of depressing.

        1. They’re not locked in…
This is what was expected. Clouds dominant in the morning then in and out for the rest of the day. You should see some clearing from the ENE by noon.

            1. I kinda like this. πŸ™‚
It’s not for that long and we’ve made out pretty well given 3 days of persistent NE wind.

              1. Yes, I understand that. Yesterday was an absolute Gem. I just don’t care for this weather today. AND If it starts to drizzle or shower I am going to let out a howl you will here in Woburn or wherever you are hanging today!!

                1. Woburn until early evening, then Beverly for a couple hours, then back to Woburn again. πŸ™‚

    1. He said they just received a 2 meter dumping of snow. Amazing.
They are calling it El Nino snows.

  1. At Humarock for day visiting kids. Windy and overcast with sun trying to burn thru. Call me crazy but I love days like today at the Beach

    1. You can’t stay for a night or two Vicki. Enjoy as I know how much you love it down here .

      1. We had planned to stay at Fairview but had to cancel. Mac has a tumor pushing on a nerve so needs radiation each day which seems to be helping πŸ™‚ But we will go as soon as we can. It was just fund being there today. We are looking for a house in the area too.

        1. A couple of things: first I’m sorry to hear that about Mack . Second a house to buy? And third you know that the fairview is closing right? It’s moving to pembroke under a different name where bobby hackets was.

          1. Oh ugh. When is fairview closing? Thank you re Mac. He sure seems to be improving. And yes, a house to buy πŸ™‚

            1. Wow that’s great regarding Mack and the house. You actively looking and will you be selling and relocating here. So the landlords of the fairview I guess decided to raise the rent drastically basically forcing them out. The people who run it really want to own a place I guess a lot of discussions did not work out good. So the fairview is out and moving to pembroke this fall. The current fairview is on the market and I’m just taking a guess here I can see it being condos. The landlords own the right to the name and thats where the name change comes in play. I guess the managers have been in talks with bobby hackets son and will be including some of bobby hackets food on the menus along with there current and new items. I guess bobby hackets was the place back when but in the seven years I’ve been here it’s been all remodeled and several different places that have all not worked out. It will be interesting to see cause fairview was a hit in the summer being right on the water . We go every September for our anniversary . So to sum it up great restaurant with outstanding years of quality food and service but will the crowd follow to pembroke that I am not sure of.

  2. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!@@@@!!!!!!@@

    DID you hear me Tk???

    Drizzle!!!!@@@@@@-!!!@!`Β‘`~~Β‘~^Β‘`

      1. πŸ˜€
Maybe it was, because it didn’t last long.
By the time I got home the sun was peaking out,
although NOT out as of yet. πŸ˜€

  3. 12z GFS and 12z ECMWF are in much better agreement than those models have been recently, and they both have the pattern nailed.

    Our troughy days are numbered.

  4. I hate to sound critical, but I’m not understanding NWS’s methods when local forecasting sometimes. Watching the current conditions and very recent trends by just simple satellite observation can help a great day with sky condition forecasting. If you know the state of the atmosphere reasonably well, know the current cloudcover and can see it nicely on satellite, and know the wind now and upcoming for the next few hours, along with other details of the region, you can forecast sky condition reasonably accurately. But somehow they managed to put out a zone forecast for my area this morning that just said “mostly sunny” for the region all day. Then when the mostly cloudy morning finally breaks for partly cloudy for the afternoon, their wording was changed to “mostly cloudy” for the afternoon. Not every forecast is going to work out, but gotta be ready for changing conditions and surprises.

    1. Happy to see that you are critical. I think they have been mostly useless
for sometime now almost comical at times.

  5. JB JR previously hit a homer and just now hit a double into the right field corner
with the bases loaded, clearing the bases. Hmmm perhaps we have a keeper here.

  6. This weekend’s weather previewed fall nicely. I enjoyed it. Thanks for the forecasts, TK.

OS, Jackie Bradley Jr. may be the best center fielder I’ve seen in a Red Sox uniform. Too bad he hasn’t been able to hit major league pitching. I hope that today marks a turn-around for him. I’d like to keep him, Betts, and Bogaerts, and please get rid of Sandoval and Ramirez.

Charlie, as for Ortiz, I respectfully disagree. I met Ortiz once, in 2005. A chance encounter. I’m certainly not a famous person, yet at the bar where I met him he treated me like a friend and invited me to sit down at a table and chat with him, his wife, and two other Sox players (notably, these were bench players, who Ortiz befriended). I’ll never forget this chance meeting as long as I live. He mostly talked about his children and his love of the city of Boston, the fans, the neighborhoods, and he mentioned his work with various hospitals and charities. Of course I will never forget his clutch-hitting. I’ve watched a lot of baseball in my lifetime. Ortiz beats them all in terms of clutch performances. Unbelievable. I do think Brady is a great player, also a decent human being. But, I’m not enamored by his personality or persona. Ortiz gives a real interview, expresses emotions, can be selfish, yes, but he doesn’t pretend he’s perfect. As far as steroids is concerned, he like almost all MLB players probably used them in the early 2000s. However, just as in Brady’s case of deflated footballs Ortiz’s use of steroids was not proven.

On a different note, so sad to hear of the loss of a Swiss surgeon, who was hit while biking through the notorious intersection of Mass. Ave. and Beacon St. I live close to this intersection. I have seen the aftermath of some bad accidents on my street. And, as a biker, but also a pedestrian and car driver, I don’t feel especially safe on Beacon St.

    1. I too was glad to hear about the surgeon. Needless

For Ortiz…I like him. Am currently disappointed in him for a recent, jealously laden comment but it does not seem to be his norm

I’m am still confused by the fall comparison. It was 61 for a low here last night and 66 at the south coast. 65 is the average low for this area in August. Feels like August to me πŸ™‚

      1. I guess I can see where some people may think ahead to the coming Fall but to me it was just a cool August stretch. We had a bunch of those in August 1982. πŸ™‚

        1. Very true, TK. I remember a chill in the air in August of 1982. I also remember some hot days that month.

I was thinking of this weekend as being a preview of, say, September. I very much look forward to fall, but I should never wish time away. I’m at a point in life that is past the 50 yard line, and therefore likely past the halfway point.

        2. I looked at WHW last year August. Doesn’t look a whole lot different. Lows to 60s perhaps high 50s. Many highs 70s low 80s.

I’d check more but as I simply remember this as August. No laughing now. One of the reasons is we tended to move the kids to light weight footed sleepers. The first “blanket sleepers” I remember for kids were made by sears and had Winnie the Pooh on them so we always called them pooh bears. And still do πŸ™‚

    2. Very nice, and I’m glad you had a great encounter with a professional sports player. I still always say never use a professional sports figure as a role model for any kid,, ever. As for clutch Brady is as clutch as they come imho, and not just that Brady is and will go down as the most popular athlete in Boston and New England. He not only has the # 1 best selling jersey in New England. He had the best selling jersey in America. Next best seller in New England is Gronk, but that’s a different story for a different day. I agree that in 2004 this area attention was grabbed by the 86 yr drought, but that was short lived, and in a way has hurt the sport around here. The Patriots are now well established by decades of winning, and amongst many kids favorite sports team here. Baseball has become a lot like hockey, and is having more and more of a unique following. Like I’ve said before many from the globe/analyst get mad because of this, and even have had write ups on why watching football is bad for you. Lol, I don’t read the globe no longer due to everything is politically driven. It’s not for us. I’m getting side tracked here, but again I’m glad it’s a great memory in your life. πŸ™‚

    3. Also bikes and cars don’t mix, personally roads are for cars, and not bikes imho, we have bikes, and we go to bike trails, never on the roads. You have your back to all cars. You are letting every driver possibly end your life in an instance. How dumb imho, I don’t trust anyone with a 2,000lb machine to my back that can simply run me right over. And to top it off, I’ve seen with my own eyes cocky ego bicyclists riding with no courtesy to cars, I’ve had to scream out my window at them SINGLE LANE!!! πŸ™‚ may that Swiss surgeon rest in peace. He sounded like a good guy. πŸ™‚

  7. Just one sample. August 4 2013 week ahead. 2014 was not much different

    9:51PM

The week starts with a shot of refreshing air from Canada on a northwest wind behind a departing upper low and arriving surface high. The air moderates a little but remains comfortable through Tuesday. A warm front pushes eastward toward the region by Wednesday with more clouds and eventually a shower threat. We’ll be near a front on Thursday and Friday with warm/humid air just to the south. It’s hard to say how strong the push of this will be into the region at this point but going to lean for a stronger push of it, along with a shower and thunderstorm threat due to the closeness of the front. Looking into next weekend, low pressure in eastern Canada and high pressure over the east central US combine to send a warm westerly flow across the region.

Forecast for southeastern New England (southern NH, eastern MA, and RI)…

TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows in the 50s. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.

MONDAY: Sunny to partly cloudy. Highs 72-77. Wind NW 10-20 MPH.

MONDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy to mostly clear. Lows 48-53 inland, 53-58 coast. Wind light variable.

TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 75-80, cooler some coastal areas. Wind variable to SE 5-15 MPH.

WEDNESDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of showers. Low 59. High 79.

THURSDAY: Partly sunny. Chance of showers and thunderstorms. Low 66. High 86.

FRIDAY: Partly cloudy. Chance of showers and thunderstorms. Low 68. High 88.

SATURDAY: Partly cloudy. Low 61. High 84.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. Low 64. High 86.

August is a month of change. It can be 50s or 90s.

  8. Let me say I was surprised Brady’s suspension was not reduced to two games and the four game suspension was upheld.
I think its going to be Jimmy Grapaulo leading them the first four games of the season. Three out of four first games not going to be easy Steelers Bills and Cowboys both on road. Jaguars should be an easy win.
