  1. Happy Birthday, Sue. Hope you have special plans. But as I follow your fsmilies adventures on FB, I think you always have fun things planned ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Todayโ€™s first AccuWeather Trivia Quiz.

Can it snow from a clear sky?
    A. Yes
    B. No

    Todayโ€™s second AccuWeather (weather??)Trivia Quiz.

Which Great Lake is the largest and could hold the water of all the other Great Lakes?

    A. Lake Ontario
    B. Lake Michigan
    C. Lake Superior
    D. Lake Huron

    Answers later today.

    1. A. and C.

With the first one, I have actually witnessed it. It was NOT true snow, it
was falling from a completely and I do mean completely clear sky. It was pretty darn cold out. I can’t remember the exact temperature. It was some sort of well formed ice crystals just floating down. It was pretty freaky to tell you the truth. I stuck my hand out the window to grab a few.

      1. It may be called something else, but what I witnessed was
little ice needles about 1 inch in length and with hardly any
diameter at all. Very very thin.

        1. “De-sublimation” or basically the opposite of sublimation in the air, and the crystals reach the ground of the air is moist enough. The most common term used for this is “diamond dust”.

Of course it can snow full flakes from a clear sky if you had the flakes falling from fast-moving mid level clouds with moist air below them and it just took a long time for the flakes to reach the ground – long enough so that the clouds either moved far enough away or dissipated so that you have clear sky overhead.

          1. Well then in the latter case, that would not have
been from a clear sky. It originated in a cloud(s).
That would make it another famous inaccuweather trick question.

  3. Thank you, TK.

The showers that are likely starting Thursday may be a bit late to help with SNE foliage. I think it will be muted. Have been observing the shedding of leaves (green ones, too) for several weeks now and the trees look in relatively rough shape.

Thanks for the quizzes, Longshot. I don’t think it can snow from a clear sky, but this may depend on how we define snow and its origins.

  4. Interesting quote from Bernie Sanders:

โ€œNative Americans forever have understood that we gain sustenance, we gain life from nature. You destroy nature, you destroy life and that is what weโ€™re doing globally right now and that has got to change.โ€

That about sums it up very well. As Tk keeps saying, it’s best to take care of our planet. (Whether one believes it climate change or not)
Some people just don’t see it that way or plain and simply don’t care.

    1. Nice guy, nice thinking, but we need some younger more energetic thinking, 90% of the time we vote democrat, right now if I were to vote, we would vote Carson ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. I wasn’t saying anything about the candidate other than he
is spot on about our planet.

For the record I like most of Bernie’s ideas, not all, but most.
I am concerned about his age and also about his “electability”, which is perhaps the same issue.

We shall see as the year unfolds.

Hillary has the personality of a moss covered rock.

        1. I’m far less concerned with age than I am with view. I could think of a few views of bernies I diagree with if I tried very hard I suppose ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Ahhh a double celebration, Sue. I hope they consulted you when it came to the menu and cake ๐Ÿ˜‰ have fun!!

  5. Happy Birthday, Sue. You must have had plenty of birthdays on the first day of school when you were growing up.

JP Dave, I like Bernie’s quote. I believe that we are stewards of the earth’s resources and need to maintain an equilibrium of sorts in order for future generations – our children – to continue to reap the benefits our earth provides us.

This said, I’m not a fan of Bernie’s radicalism. And, at the same time, I’m not a fan of Republican radicalism of the kind espoused by Trump (eg, xenophobic, misogynist), Carson (eg, creationist, compares Obamacare to slavery).

Our politicians are too polarized and divisive. It’s an odd analogy, I know, but I think we as a nation can learn from Tom Brady’s handling of co-parenting with Bridget Moynihan. They put aside their differences in the best interest of their child. What they shared and will always share is their child. We as a nation have similar core shared objectives. Politicians need to put aside their differences to achieve shared goals.

  7. I scratch my head about the release of Reggie Wayne, but then again I can’t really question player personnel moves the Patriots have made over the past 15 years.

    1. Now that’s a surprise. I wonder if they will resign him after the first game. IIRC if they do that then his contract isn’t guaranteed.

  8. Football is a cut throat sport, never related to a liberal state like mass, so very tough to take. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. You might want to stop dissing liberals. Judge Berman is a Clinton appointee. Liberal judges favor labor which may be one reason he was willing to cross the general rule not to touch arbitration. Now hope at least two of the three judges assigned to the appeal are liberal appointees. Conservative judges tend to favor management

      Just sayin

  9. Here is a shot of the beautiful Stop River in Medfield, a bit upstream from where
it flows into the Charles River in Medfield. Millis is in the distance. We were there
fishing this afternoon and got skunked. Moved to the Charles in Dedham and had some good luck. Mrs. JPD caught 2 largemouth bass, 1 yellow perch and 4 blue gills. I got 2 lousy blue gill and that was that.

We did see a majestic eagle high atop a pine tree and a stunning blue heron land
in the pond a Noon Hill and one monarch butterfly as well. Nice day.

      1. Love the pics. Thank you. Medield Is a beautiful area. Perfect fish. I do not believe I ever caught a small mouth.

        1. Oh and I have never seen an eagle which surprises me giving spent so much time in woods and mountains. I would love to see one
