DAYS 1-5 (OCTOBER 11-15)…
High and some middle cloudiness overnight prevented temperatures from falling to their potential lows and therefore frost was isolated in the lowest-lying inland areas. The great weekend weather continues today through Columbus Day Monday as we enter the warm-up phase on an increasing west to south wind. Low pressure passes offshore and a weak cold front slides through from the west Tuesday with a few showers possible, then it’s back to fair weather with a cool-down for Wednesday and Thursday.
TODAY: Filtered sun with variable high cloudiness morning, brighter sun with a few high clouds afternoon. Highs 65-70 except 60-65 deepest valleys. Wind W to SW increasing to 10-20 MPH.
TONIGHT: Clear. Lows 45-50 valleys, 50-55 elsewhere. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY – COLUMBUS DAY: Sunny. Highs 70-75 South Coast, 75-80 elsewhere. Wind SW to S 15-25 MPH.
TUESDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of rain showers. Lows in the 50s. Highs 65-75.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows in the 40s. Highs 55-65.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows 35-45. Highs in the 50s.
DAYS 6-10 (OCTOBER 16-20)…
Fair and cool October 16. Possible rain/snow showers October 17, dry October 18, unseasonable chill. Fair with a warming trend October 19-20.
DAYS 11-15 (OCTOBER 21-25)…
Up and down temperature pattern with a warmer start and colder finish possible, with perhaps a threat of unsettled weather briefly around temperature transition from warmer to colder.

I wasn’t expecting too much from this year’s foliage season, especially in SNE, but so far I’ve been pleasantly surprised. The splashes of color have been the brightest in years.
Not here yet but may be heading that way. That’s what the old timer in VT said. He believes when dry the foliage is more brilliant. Part of problem here, as I’ve said, is the winter moth damage to the maples.
The colors have been unbelievably bright and colorful. Not at all what I was expecting.
Sorry in the white mountains.
I thought the claims of a “dead” foliage season were premature and I explained this on previous posts.
Just about every year it’s variable from one type of tree to another and from one area to another. Northern areas should have no issues. They just got a late start.
Thanks tk ๐
We just got news we will be staying in North Carolina sometime between Dec 26th-March 1st, not sure for how long, but it certainly will be a wonderful treat. Only 4 weeks of turf diagnostic work left, and done for the year. Deep root feedings to ornamental tree and shrub until the 1st or 2nd week of Dec, then done until March. ๐
I thought you start in mid to late February?
We do, but I don’t need to be here to get everything going, but yes late February starts lime applications
On average there’s only about 8 weeks of off time, we will begin down in Newport RI in late Feb, and work north.
You own your own company is that right
I am going to make it my mission to make sure people understand the information presented to them in media.
I wish you the best. Got a wall to bang your head on…please pad it cause it would break my heart to see you hurt ๐
My family and friends seem to all understand. They know media hypes. They know a seven day forecast is a very basic guide and will change daily and hourly. They don’t understand why anyone would think differently. This isn’t a whole lot of people and I don’t ascribe to the majority feel this way, but they are level headed and I believe most are. Those complaining either like to complain or done have a ton of common sense so will never get it.
Just my opinion

The same phenomenon is found elsewhere in the World, but it is not named
Chinook.
I think a Chinook is a breed of dogs that might be like sled dogs. But the name Chinook is for Indian tribes, helicopters, salmon, etc.
Not what I am looking for, but agree it is an Indian term. ๐
Near the ocean
Upon further review, one could argue that ALL answers to the 2nd question are true. But I’ll stick with my first answer because that is what I know it to be.

I don’t trust that guy one iota.
@BigJoeBastardi: Actually 3 winters with El nino, positive PNA, negative AO, all cold, stormy, mid/later worse. Fits our ideas
68-69,09-10,14-15
I have never seen him forecast a mild Winter. He will find any way possible to forecast a nasty one for at least parts of the eastern US.
Ah ha. I think I am on to a new Patriots conspiracy. They seem to win the toss more often than not. I think they are adding air to the side of the coin they want facing down.
Flipgate!
I just startled everyone I laughed so loud. GOOD ONE
They lost the coin toss
And dallas chose to accept first? I came in a few minutes late and assumed (yes not smart) No team was silly enough to let pats receive first at half
Ok then I have to revise my theory. I am now thinking some sort of subliminal message is being played in the oppositions helmet when the added air doesn’t work and they lose the toss We know the pats have helmet control too.
I’ll leave it to Stephen to come up with a name for that ๐
Yea I don’t know why teams who win the toss still chose to receive. It falls right into the Pats game plan. They always want the ball after the half.

I knew 1, 2, and 4. Guessed on 3 and was wrong. ๐
I always thought a chinook was warm air coming off ocean. Silly,e again
Chinook is a downsloping wind that heats up. We get a form of them here. Sometimes it’s a “New England Chinook” that results in Boston’s 100-degree temperatures.
Ahhh. Why thank you
And I do not approve of anything that eats snow…unless it has maple syrup on it of course
It was pretty damn cool keeping that team from scoring any touchdowns. ๐
Don’t fool yourself….It is a conspiracy
OH yes! ๐
Thanks for the wishes on the blog yesterday!! Party was awesome, kids has a blast and the cake was amazing.
Skins game was a tough one to lose. Ughhhhh

TK answered the Chinook.

I know some of you do not like Dan Shaughnessy, but I do. Always have.

Point taken, but do not trust this jealous patriot hater one bit, he knows absolutely nothing about football, or the NFL. He will do whatever possible to put down the Patriots dynasty accomplishments in passive aggressive ways. Many think he’s a “boob” hence the new nickname “shank”. He should stick to baseball where they will at least respect his opinion a little bit. If you put a red ball on his nose, he’d be the perfect clown. ๐
I am a bit tired of hearing the Patriots will get you becauee they have been wronged. I don’t know how anyone believes they play less than 100% at any time. And this nonsense about we are going to get Indy this week…..sooner or later that will come back to bite us. Right now, while the Pats focus on their game, we are sounding like the fans of every other team and I don’t much like us.
Brady was clearly targeted by the NFL. He is setting an example of doing his job and not letting the side show rule him. I wish the fans and especially the media would follow his lead
My Monday morning soapbox time ๐
Oh and I clearly agree with him about winning the toss….what were they thinking
