Tuesday Forecast

3:58AM

DAYS 1-5 (OCTOBER 13-17)…
Low pressure wave moving north northeastward will pass just east of Cape Cod by midday today, bringing showers mainly this morning especially to southeastern MA. Cold front number 1 will pass through from west to east this evening with a risk of rain showers in a couple of waves, but they will likely be weakening as they move through, limiting rainfall. Cold front number 2 will pass through from northwest to southeast later Wednesday but will bring mainly cloudiness and probably no precipitation. Cold front number 3 will be due by the middle of Friday, accompanied by rain showers. Cold front number 4 is expected to charge through the region Saturday with a few rain showers. And of course, certainty and timing confidence decreases slightly the further out in time you go so watch for updates.
TODAY: Mostly cloudy morning with occasional rain showers, best chance over southeastern MA including possible brief downpours and a slight risk of thunder. Partly sunny afternoon with isolated showers. More humid. Highs upper 60s Cape Cod and South Coast, 70s elsewhere. Wind variable 5-15 MPH morning, S to SW 10-20 MPH afternoon.
TONIGHT: Variably cloudy. Scattered rain showers through about midnight. Lows in the 50s. Wind SW to W 5-15 MPH with higher gusts.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny morning. Partly to mostly cloudy afternoon. Highs in the 60s. Wind W 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.
THURSDAY: Partly to mostly sunny. Lows in the 40s. Highs around 60.
FRIDAY: AM showers. PM clearing. Lows in the 40s. Highs around 60.
SATURDAY: Variably cloudy. Risk of a rain shower. Lows around 40. Highs in the 50s.

DAYS 6-10 (OCTOBER 18-22)…
Dry and relatively cold October 18. Continued mainly dry with a significant warm-up October 19-22, however a rain shower risk comes very late in the period.

DAYS 11-15 (OCTOBER 23-27)…
Rain shower risk very early in the period otherwise mainly dry weather with variable temperatures averaging out somewhat above normal.

  1. If you have not seen it, please see the post just before this one on BLOG RULES. The expectation is that all will abide by them. Thank you and good day all.

    1. One thing to add: Many of the posts on the previous blog were removed but many of them were not in any violation of posted rules. This was done purely for reasons of removing out-of-order posts or replies to comments that had been removed previously. Do not be offended if your post(s) fell into the removal pile but did not violate anything. You did nothing wrong. Thanks!

  2. Thanks Tk and please keep this blog civil and terminate any trouble makers who cause disruption on here.

  3. Fortunately, it seems, I tuned into the last blog very late. On another note, the B’s are off to their worst start in more than 15 years. Ugh! And finally today looks to be humid, humid.

    1. It’s only 3 games so far, but I’ll be happy if they MAKE the playoffs this year. I hope it’s not too much to expect. 😉

  4. I rarely post here but in reference to the previous discussion; it seems to me that “game changers” as far as the dissemination of any information – weather included, are smart phones and social media. I own a very busy retail food service establishment. It often seems 90% of the patrons at any given time are staring at some sort of screen, smart phone, tablet etc. I remember when One would “listen to the weather” before leaving the house in the morning and maybe catch a Television forecast in the evening and not really think too much about it. Now it seems that what used to be simply a rainy day is now a dramatic disaster days in advance requiring dozens of “tweets,” frightening graphics referencing the “likelihood of poor travel,” Facebook posts, text alerts etc etc
If one media outlet presents this way the others must also or get left behind as people seem to naturally pay attention the most to whomever has the “worst” news. It’s almost as if the access to the devices mandates the creation of more and more content or maybe just more ways of presenting the same information? I’ve lived all forty nine years of my life around these parts. The weather seems to be about the same as it ever was. I think our collective access to instant information about weather and anything else 24/7 lends a sense of urgency and importance to events that used to not be noticed in the ways they are now. just a few thoughts….

    1. Here’s the headline for my reply story:

Moon’s Gravitational Pull Causes Shifts In Ocean Levels Of Several Feet Per Day

      Oh no! Run! Hide!

  5. Thanks TK.

Impressive t-storms (for October at least) impacting the Cape and the Vineyard. Some places down there may get a quick inch of rain. HRRR gave a good lead of this last night.

  6. Throughout my 51 years of living – okay, 45 years of `conscious’ living – October has meant crisp fall air, foliage, pumpkins, raking leaves, and the start of a true winter sport: ice hockey. My enthusiasm is muted this year, due to observing perhaps the worst start in Bruins’ history. I’m in a funk. Only way to shake it off will be for me to follow the local college hockey teams, several of which will be good this year. Nothing beats a hockey night – preferably a cold, frosty one – at Bright arena where Harvard plays, or Conte forum, home of the Eagles.

    1. Looks like Hockey is your passion, but perhaps to fill the void you could
jump on the Patriots band wagon? I couldn’t hurt, could it?

Cheer up, it will get better.

Perhaps they’ll wise up and fire Claude. Not that a new coach would have
      much with which to work.

      1. That comment not to be rude, it’s just that everytime we go there, we are amazed just how hockey central that place is. The last time I I will add though the last time we went there, we caught a patriots game at a place called Champs, it was mixed with Canadian fans and even patriots fans. 🙂 wish u luck

  7. TWC released their winter storm name list today… One of the names is “Yolo”.

You can’t make this stuff up…

  8. Good morning and Thank you TK.

    re: Blog rules

Pretty simple. I shall do my best to follow those guidelines.

    re: Rain
There was a pretty decent shower in the 7-7:45 AM time frame. Pretty much
    completely shut down after that.

  9. Can hear rumbles of thunder from my classroom towards the Canal from Middleborough. Low overcast with fog and moderate rain.

  10. Maybe its not this simple, so I’ll throw this out as a theory …..

Where it rained somewhat decently this morning and now with the sun coming out evaporating that rainfall, dewpoints in this region are about 65F, compared with the mid to upper 50s most everywhere else ……….

    1. I was just downtown. The dew point was up there as well, believe me.
I had to walk more than a mile and it was juicy. 😀

    1. The disturbance from the south was a little more potent and a little further west than I expected. Impressive little guy that the models didn’t handle that great until last night’s HRRR.

The system from the west will be in fail mode as it comes through tonight with most showers dying as they try to move in.

      1. I heard that from daughter #1 who is still trying to paint house. She has been watching the forecast diligently and no one had rain for today. She is convinced she is the cause of the rain.

      1. Indeed. That new tower is getting way up there in height.
I could see it from downtown. It’s beginning to look
        spectacular.

  11. Looks like after this brief cooler period over the weekend, the month ends on a mild note with temps close to 70 degrees. 🙂

    1. Rapid turnaround coming. Places that may be as cold as near 30 Monday morning may be as high as the 70s just 2 days later.

      1. Don’t you absolutely love the weather swings we have.

Meanwhile the Sky looks like a water color in grey tonight.

  12. Sorry about the duplicates. I hit post and NOTHING happened, so I kept hitting post and the above is the result. It frustrates the hell out of me. I’ll try better to behave and not do this. When I hit post, the damn thing should post.

    I think I am blacklisted at Word Press. 😀 😀 😀

  13. Dave,,this was my daughters response to the pumpkin….just one of them 🙂

    “Wow that’s crazy!”

  14. Warm second half of the summer, fairly warm fall so far, and probably a relatively warm end of the month (last 7-10 days), YET, Boston may have an early frost later this week (earlier than average). This is what I have always enjoyed about New England weather. So variable. So unpredictable. No two years or seasons are alike. I just could not take living in a place like San Diego.
