Friday Forecast

7:17AM

DAYS 1-5 (NOVEMBER 6-10)…
Unseasonable warmth and humidity today ahead of a cold front along with a variety of clouds. Some record high temperature will likely fall today. Boston’s record high of 73 may be eclipsed by 1 or 2 degrees as I expect them to reach 74 or 75. Only a few isolated rain showers this evening mark the passage of the cold front as it moves west to east across southeastern New England, and only slowly settles off to the southeast on Saturday, which will be cooler and much less humid. But you’ll have to wait another day for a more seasonable November chill as the coolest air will not arrive until Sunday. By the start of next week, high pressure will have crested overhead Monday then moved offshore Tuesday with a new warm-up underway. Some moisture may increase during Tuesday bringing cloudiness and eventually some risk of wet weather by night, though the evolution and movement of that possible disturbance is still very much in question this far in advance.
TODAY: Variably cloudy including some sunshine. Highs 65-70 South Coast, 71-76 elsewhere. Humid. Wind SW 10-20 MPH with gusts as high as 30 MPH.
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. A passing evening rain shower possible. Lows 50-55. Lowering humidity. Wind SW 10-20 MPH with higher gusts, shifting to W.
SATURDAY: Limited sun at times morning with variable high and some middle clouds especially southeastern MA and RI, then trending sunnier afternoon. Highs 60-65. Wind W 10-20 MPH and gusty.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy evening. Clearing overnight. Lows 35-40 interior, 40-45 coast. Wind NW 5-15 MPH and gusty.
SUNDAY: Sunny. Highs 48-55, coolest interior higher elevations. Wind NW to N 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY: Sunny. Lows in the 30s. Highs in the 50s.
TUESDAY: Increasing clouds. Possible rain at night. Lows in the 40s. Highs in the 60s.

DAYS 6-10 (NOVEMBER 11-15)…
Fair weather returns November 11 with mild air. Unsettled weather possible with clouds returning November 12 and a chance of some wet weather November 13, possibly lingering into November 14 before fair weather returns late in the period with a possible brief shot of colder air.

DAYS 11-15 (NOVEMBER 16-20)…
The general pattern will continue to favor an overall mild/dry regime but with a couple quick unsettled events and brief cooler shots, depending on timing of systems.

  1. Thank you TK. Amazing November weather. Warm and humid with leaf blowers in the background. Nice because it is and because it is different, but reinforces my love of New England as I would miss distinct seasons. That may not make sense 🙁

  2. Thanks tk 🙂

Next week also looks mild, not as mild as this week, but still much above average 🙂

  3. Hate weather like yesterday and today in November and December, I am all about getting into the holiday season and it should be cool/cold. Fireplace weather, not shorts and t-shirt weather 🙂

  4. Funny last week when we had that freeze everything appeared dead. The last few days I have seen flies, bees, etc. All the bugs are back and it’s like a Spring awakening.

  5. I kind of have to agree with Hadi. Although I don’t hate this kind of weather, November should have more cooler and even rainier(we certainly need the rain) weather. I know November can have some mild days – I can recall some very mild Thanksgivings. Actually, I remember some years in November with tornado watches/warnings. In any case, I would call the weather we are having “weirdly beautiful”. We still have some bright color on some trees in our yard and the sky looks almosts strange but gives off a beautiful light. I’m sure winter will come at some point. Nevertheless, I am enjoying the mild weather – no need for heavy jackets and hats just yet! 🙂

Vicki – still and will continue pray for Mac’s recovery.

  6. Concur with Hadi. It’s gross outside, quite frankly. This is not Mississippi or Louisiana. Yet, it feels like I’m in the opening scene of Jim Jarmusch’s “Down by Law” movie; sticky, swampland. Did I spell those two states right? If so, my third grade
teacher Ms. Tunner will be happy.

If one scrolls a map going due north, you have to go as far as Schefferville, Canada (Quebec province), or Labrador City (Newfoundland/Labrador province) to find temperatures anywhere near normal. It appears the jet is riding over that area as they’re getting snow and freezing rain. Normally this time of year there’s a 25-30 degree difference between Boston and those parts, not a 40-50 degree difference!

Snow is really piling up in the far north:

    1. Joshua – I have bookmarked Kimmirut for awhile now and every so often I look at it. Yesterday or the day before I saw a person walking. The snowy scene looks nice.Thank you for that link. I am looking forward to snow – but come the end of March you will see me wishing for spring! 🙂

  7. I agree with Hadi also. My son has a football game today at 4:00 and I should be putting thermals on under his game jersey, not a tank top. 🙂

  8. Maybe its because I live so close to the ocean ….. but, I love the current weather …..

Once the cold settles in, we don’t often get a truly mild to warm day again until mid May down here.

When inland communities get that first 55F day in March, its 37F here with an ice cold seabreeze.

In April, the 60s and low 70s may return inland, the seabreeze “moderates” to 48F here.

So, that’s why I think I want to hold on to this warm weather as long as possible. I do agree it feels strange given the time of year. And, I know I’m saving big money on heat, so all the better.

  9. 11/19 on the 12z GFS ….. lets see if that’s something that repeats in future runs …

It would be a miss, but the idea of developing low pressure south and east of New England with some chilly air moving in.

  10. Tom, I do understand your perspective. Coastal NE takes a long time to warm up. It can be chilly in early June! Remember the 49F days in Boston this year on June 1st and 2nd. So, when we get bonus warmth in November, it makes the long winter more palatable.

    1. Was it really 49F on June 1st and 2nd, wow !!!!!!! Probably because we still had piles of snow around 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

      1. I do believe it was. Would have to check weather records, but I distinctly remember it not getting to 50 on the 1st, and I think the second of June was the same kind of gray, raw weather here in Boston. My guess is that inland – even as close as Newton – was in the 50s.

  11. Vicki, I think of you and Mac every day. I don’t know you other than through this blog. But, I feel that you are family. We all are, as Sister Sledge once said. Take care.

    1. Thank you Joshua. I also feel as if we are a family.

I love cold but this is a Godsend as Mac has been sitting outside for a few hours every day or by an open window.

      1. Then, Vicki – if this weather is good for Mac – let it stay that way! Better Mac enjoys the nice weather than we get any cold/rainy weather!

  12. I don’t mind this weather at all in November. Put this weather in mid-December
through Mid-march and I’d be having a fit and 1/2!!

Right now it’s gorgeous and I am not going to complain.

Now for sure it is keeping the ocean temperatures up and they may bite us in the backside for sure.

  13. Was out for a bit. Car thermometer was reading 75

1 PM Logan obs = 73 which ties the record. I’m sure it already has or will exceed that.

  14. Absolutely loving today’s warm humid November wind. We’ll be feeling a decided chill by Sunday in comparison. Love the changes. Love New England!

    1. I love it too, not ready for cold dark can’t do much kind of days. Just my opinion, the shorter the winter, the better. On a positive note earliest sunset is a month away, and then start moving forward 🙂

  15. Weatherman… Regarding your question earlier, I think we fall short of 70 most areas during next week’s warming trend which will be Tuesday/Wednesday. I suppose there is an outside shot at temperatures that mild if we have enough clear sky and the wind direction is right, but I’d bet against the 70 for now.

  16. Though I continue to agree with CPC’s above normal temperature 6-10 & 8-15 day outlooks , I’m not sure why they keep forecasting above normal precipitation… Yes there is a shot of a couple unsettled events but odds are highly against big rains in a widespread fashion right now.

  17. Has tomorrow forecast changed any? Kids and Grands coming and always nice and less overwhelming if it can be outside. 65 does it….doesn’t look as if there will be rain.

  18. What a crime…had to turn the AC on for a few hours to cool the house down. Was stuffy and 77 degrees in the house. Even with the breeze and Windows and doors open the temp was going up in here.
