Thursday Forecast

7:32AM

DAYS 1-5 (NOVEMBER 19-23)…
Frontal system approaches from the west today and crosses the region tonight and early Friday. By late Friday, a push of dry air will clear it out, and will turn somewhat cooler. The weekend will be mainly dry though a disturbance passing north of the region early Sunday will bring another front through and result in a few rain showers in the area, but mostly just some cloudiness. High pressure builds in by Monday with fair and chilly weather.

  1. Thanks TK !

If you want to see warmth being transported towards the pole, check out the kimmirut webcam the next 24-36 hrs. ….. It’s all relative, but after some more warm advection snow, they are expecting rain and freezing rain with temps around 32F or 0C with strong southerly winds.

  2. Thanks, TK.

I’m in north country. While my mother’s been sick all year and been hospitalized several times, she’s still with us in spite of frailty and basically 24/7 care in the nursing home. I’m very grateful for this.

Vermonters speak differently about winter. They certainly don’t have an anti-winter attitude that one can find in Boston. In fact, many here welcome the snow and cold. I may retire here, too, as at least then I’ll be guaranteed some snow – El Nino years notwithstanding. But, retirement is not for another 15 years.

    1. Vermont is beautiful, but there’s very little economy, way to much snow, and everyone just cares about what climate change will do to there trees. Again beautiful there, and the people are great. Glad u r enjoying it. 🙂

    2. Joshua I’m sending hugs and prayers for your mom. I love VT and the kindness of its people. We can all learn a lot from their views

  3. Good morning and thank you TK.

Yawn. Boring, despite some rain later.

Ho-Hum weather in my opinion. blah, blah, blah.

I like action, action and more action. 😀

  4. It’s about that time to get back into it….not sure what to make of the winter with El Nino which for anyone who doesn’t know is Spanish for “The Nino”. A lot of competing factors out there right now, which should at least make it interesting. The GFS has hinted at a trough developing in early December, but we all know how that goes this far away………

  5. TK, do u think we get the widespread 1-2″ of rainfall some media outlets are forecasting for tonight or will this one underproduce?

  6. If the GFS is in the ballpark, perhaps Seattle, WA and Portland, OR get a bit of snow just prior to Thanksgiving.

First true continental polar or maybe arctic airmass headed for the Pacific NW and northern Rockies.

  7. Of course, peaking at the 12z EURO, out 96 hrs I believe, looks like it has a wave of low pressure closer to the coast and below 0C 850 mb temps …..

      1. ok, thanks Matt. I get to peak at Instant Weather Maps and see the pressure maps, but don’t have any access to simulated precip maps. So, your feedback is helpful !!

  8. Thanksgiving is only 1 week from today, and around or just after that looks like we could receive 1 or 2 more 60, or close to 60 degree days. Still far out, but we shall see. 🙂

  9. From Eric Fisher on FB:

One thing to watch for us next week – a storm that will get going offshore. Close enough to keep tabs on that’s for sure, especially since it will be quite cold. This map shows probability of low pressure…and it will be a race between the storm in the Atlantic and energy diving through the Great Lakes. Faster Great Lakes energy = kicked out to sea. A slower, more digging disturbance could bring it in closer. Stay tuned…

    1. hmmmm – very interesting. Thanks, Sue. I will have to follow him on FB. Thank you for that idea too 🙂

            1. Heavens no. I have no idea how to spell or even pronouce it. I was just being goofy but it was a poor attempt

  10. Fishers favorite weather is snow, then rain, then cloudy weather, then wind, then shorter days, then mostly cloudy sky’s, then fog, then sleet, then freezing rain, then cool weather, then way way down the list he likes sunny and 80. And he’s admitted he does not like boring sunny weather. I’m being funny, so take it as being just funny. 🙂

  11. 12z UKMET looked to be near the benchmark at 96 hours with that low, no precip parameter available but I’d assume some would be falling…

    http://meteocentre.com/models/explorateur.php?lang=fr&map=na&run=12&mod=ukmet&stn=PNM&comp=1&run2=12&mod2=ukmet&stn2=PNM&hh2=072&fixhh=1&stn2_type=prog&mode=latest&yyyy=latest&mm=latest&dd=latest&hh=096

That represents the far west edge of guidance on this low, everything else keeps it offshore, although the trend is closer. Worth watching though, this is the range in time where solutions change fast.

    1. Charlie, dear, he said we could watch and it was possible. That means it is also not possible. He isn’t “warning” anyone. By chance is your off season job writing hype headlines for media…..and I say this just to be funny

Now do please go back and read his very sensible comment 🙂

  12. Fisher and I are alike in many ways. But I DO like sunny and quiet weather too. There is no such thing as boring in New England, because even when “nothing is going on” you can be assured that something is coming eventually. This is no San Diego!

Monday threat? I lean toward progressive flow and separate streams but close enough for a good amount of wind and quite a chill on Monday. Then we turn it around the second half of next week with a significant warm-up heading toward Black Friday and Sleepy Saturday. 😛

    1. Sleepy Saturday…….I like that.

My plan was to get christmas stuff up right after October. But I think they have shortened the time period. Maybe this weekend.

Don’t you also decorate on sleepy Saturday ?

        1. I agree.

My decorating schedule is generally like this:
1 or 2 weekends before Thanksgiving when I finish the outside cleanup, up go the cords and outside lights but they remain off until the inside is done.

The day after Thanksgiving, any Autumn/Thanksgiving decorations are removed and if the weather is favorable up go the outdoor wreaths, garland, and a few more lights, etc. I’ll often start the inside that evening if I have time. I’m responsible for doing my mom’s part of the house while my wife does up here. My mom’s part of the house is the most involved with full decorations that range from new to 1960s in all rooms including a red light in each window.

No matter what the date of Thanksgiving is, on December 1 we go bright and stay that way through January 6.

          1. Not surprising we have the same schedule. Last year I started indoors earlier and really liked it. I could just sit and enjoy sooner. This year I have not but may start with some this weekend. I’d love to see pics of your moms 60s. I have some of mine from my youth also that i cherish.

            1. I’ll do a better job this year of taking some photos and posting them than I did last year. 🙂
