Boston Area Forecast – Friday Morning Update

6:45PM

(This is an update of the previous post. A full new blog update will appear Saturday morning.)

A weak front will hang around into Saturday, providing focus for scattered showers and a few thunderstorms from time to time. High pressure will build over New England Sunday (Father’s Day)  and Monday with fair weather dominating.

Conditions should be mostly favorable on Saturday for the Boston Bruins victory parade, with only a slight risk of a pop up shower occurring along the parade route. Congratulations Boston Bruins, 2011 Stanley Cup Champions!

  1. A cluster of mod-hvy rain with possible embedded thunder is moving through our area as I type, and should be in the boston area by 10:15 AM. This very well may be the only rain we see today.

  2. Back edge of the rain shield in CT River Valley and could be some embedded thunder but nothing severe. I would not rule out a pop up shower in some places this afternoon but this will be the wettest part of the day.

  3. Tomorrow coincides with our earliest sunrise (5:07 am) and latest sunset (8:24 pm). It is amazing how everything comes into alignment for our Stanley Cup Champion Bruins. Hopefully any rain stays away for their parade. I was thinking about going in person, but instead I will just watch probably on WBZ. 🙂

Also of note, the 5:07 sunrise will last until the first day of summer on June 21st and the 8:24 sunset until July 4th…interesting how that works.

    1. Philip – I keep trying to tell everyone that it’s aligning with my birthday – even the bruins win and parade. I just don’t get why no one is understanding that 🙂 🙂

  4. What ever happen to the good old menino? He’s getting outdated, we need some younger blood, it’s 2011, not 1985 anymore, so annoying, a big city with a small city mayor, take chances will ya, u say it’s a global city??

  5. Thunderstorm Index at 1 today which is MINOR since I don’t think there will be severe weather should thunderstorms develop this afternoon but as always I’ll keep an eye on it!

  6. Vicki – Happy Birthday!:) And congrats to the Bruins! Great win for a great team!

I hope the showers/storms hold out until after the parade – right now, according to the radar there is nothing except for a few showers way up north. Actually – I am hoping it stays dry all day for all the activities for everyone. We are going to visit some friends in Dedham later this afternoon – but I am guessing that at least some areas will get at least a little wet before the day is through.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads and everyone have a great weekend!

    1. Thank you Rainshine!!! I hope your trip to Dedham is fun. We went to Isabellas in Dedham for dinner last Saturday night and it was excellent – a bit pricey but well worth the expense. We took the scenic drive and went Rt 27 through Sherborn and into Medfield on 109. I hope you enjoy and that the rain does hold off at least for the parade and hopefully, as you said, for the day !!

    1. Thank you, JimmyJames !!!!

What a parade – it’s mind boggling to see how many people lined the streets. Did anyone here go??

  7. I did not go Vicki but watched the parade on television. Its has been a great decade to be a Boston sports fan with the 4 major sports teams winning a championship and in some cases multiple championships.
I wonder who will be the next Boston sports team to win a championship?

    1. I’d like it to be the sox. Id love it to be the Pats. Both is probably too much to ask for, huh?

      1. I would say that the Red Sox are the next likely candidates for a champioinship, and possibly the Patriots as well assuming there is an NFL season this year but I have lots of confidence things will be straightened out on that soon.

However, I do not have much confidence on a championship for the Celtics anytime soon. Shaq and “Big Baby” were big disappointments this season and we very well could have been celebrating “2” champions this week…now would’ve have THAT been something? Oh well.

        1. One more thing on the Celtics…they shouldn’t have blown that 13 point lead in the 3rd quarter of last year’s NBA Finals vs. the Lakers. There really should be a “Boston Celtics 2010 World Champions” banner in the Garden today. 🙁

  8. I did not go to the parade either although I had briefly thought about going. I am glad I didn’t judging from the massive crowds. I watched it on WBZ and they did an excellent job in coverage IMO. I went to the 2002 parade for the Patriots and it was very, very cold that day. I was able to get a good view of the Lombardi trophy. Bob Kraft lifted it up right in front of me by coincidence and was able to get a good picture. I watched the parade on Tremont St at the Common. I believe today’s parade had the largest attendance since it was on a weekend. My bet is TK was there with his son.

Hard to believe that as cold as it was for that Pats parade, Boston only received 15.1″ of snow for that 2001-02 season. There were many warm days that winter as well IIRC.

    1. I thought I heard that to that it was the largest crowd but they said 3 mil were at the redsox parade and a little over 2 mil for the Patriots parades, and then I heard just a million came to this, something is not making sense, in order for the bruins parade to be the biggest it would have to be over 3 mil, r they talking about how many duck boats they had?

  9. Over on the WBZ blog, that “manowx” has been complaining to Barry and Joe about them mentioning the Bruins so much and that Bruins talk doesn’t belong on the blogs, etc. I was somewhat surprised that he would make a big deal out of it.

    1. I don’t understand why a person goes to a place he or she doesn’t like. Don’t they know that they don’t have to read what Barry says? I must be missing something

  10. I noticed that Logan recorded 0.07″ of rain today as well as a thunderstorm. My section of Boston (Dorchester) only had a very brief sprinkle with no thunder at all. Even the skies overhead weren’t particularly dark. Barry also mentioned on his 6:00 newscast that there was quite a downpour over Boston not too long after the parade. Good that the parade didn’t start in the afternoon or wasn’t delayed. A fun day for all! 🙂

  11. The clouds that went over Framingham around 1:45 looked as if they were building to something. I’m assuming that may be what happened in Boston. ??
