  1. I find this fascinating. There have been more reported sightings of mountain lions in Connecticut after the one that was hit by a car over a week ago in Milford, CT. They have tested scat found in Greenwich, CT and confirmed that a mountain lion was there. I was managing a construction project at the Berkshire School in Sheffield, MA a few years ago. Sheffield is in the the furthest south west corner of the state and is a very rural area. I had a animal run pass my car early one morning near Monument Mountain, the sun was in my eyes so I couldn’t get a good look at it. I figured it to be a deer but something just didn’t look right out of the corner of my eye. Oh well, probably nothing but it sure is interesting.

    1. wow coastal – it is fascinating. Do you believe the animal killed was in captivity or that there is a population of mountain lions (however small) growing in the MA/CT/NY area? If there is more than one, I’m wondering if the experts might be hoping it was a captive mountain lion but……………

      1. Weather it was captive our wild, The DEP will report it was captive regardless. They don’t want to stir up fear among the community or have the added cost associated with protecting them. I think it may have been wild due to the overall condition of the cat (Muscular, Lean and Healthy). There is a big debate weather it will be a eastern mountain lion which are said to be extinct, or if this animal was a western or south american transplant.

  2. Another beautiful day. I also wish it would be like this all summer – with any rain at night and an occasional “garden-type” thunderstorm in the afternoon – that would not cause any harm to people, animals or property. “If wishes were gold; beggars would be kings.” I think that saying is right!

JJ – I think you said in an earlier blog that any thunderstorms the rest of the week would be on the 1 scale. Are you still holding to that or is it too early to give an estimate?

  3. I am still holding with the 1 for now since to me it looks like the severe weather will remain south and west of SNE in the vincity of the warm front where the atmosphere will become unstabled. Now if the warm front were to go north of us and we get warm sectored and sunshine to come out then the thunderstorm activity will have the POTENTIAL to be bigger. I don’t think the warm front gets past SNE which is why I think there is the chance of embedded thunderstorms with the rainfall I don’t see any severe storms but as always stay tuned on that.

  4. Thank you, JJ – I was watching the storms in the midwest last night on doppler radar. Very interesting how the storms were moving – the formation looked like a question mark. Some storms moved north then turned south. This has indeed been an interesting spring weather-wise.

  5. I was watching The Weather Channel and Jim Cantore was live from Grand Bluffs, Iowa and you could hear the tornado sirens going off as he was live on the air even though there was no tornado warning but there was a nasty line of storms with the bow shape indicating strong damaging winds gusts. The cirrculation last night looks like one you would see in the winter when that part of the country has their biggest snowfalls and we end up on the warm rainy side.

    1. I was watching Jim Cantore at that time too. But I shut it off before I found out if they re-started the game again.

  6. I agree with everyone above about this being another in a series of beautiful days. If its possible, today even seems better than the past two. No high clouds to speak of, there’s a gentle breeze flowing in off the ocean and the air is still clear, clean and dry. Happy summer solstice !! Looking way ahead, the Canada Temp Anomoly forecast and long range GFS Model seem to be signaling a shot of heat into the northeast in the long range. Interesting to see if the trends continue.

  7. Starting tomorrow, the sunrises begin to go “downhill” bit by bit. However, the sunsets will remain at their latest (8:25 pm) until well after July 4th. It’s rather sad at least to me that sunrises always gets the shaft first. On July 4th, we will have already lost 6 minutes (5:13 am) on sunrises while sunsets still won’t miss a beat…depressing.

  8. Another 10 today in my books!

Phillip I hear ya but I hate the early sunrise bc my 20 month old is up even earlier bc of it. Before the time change he was sleeping at least until 7:15 now it’s more like5:45!!!

  9. Definitely a top 10 to the “official” start of summer! As I always say “fwiw” the CPC today has us well above normal temps and well below rainfall through the July 4th holiday at this early stage. Assuming this outlook holds, we will probably experience typical HHH-type conditions but no threat of thunderstorms…we will see.

I was walking around Copley Sq. just after 5:00 pm and thinking to myself that in just another 4 months or so…it could be getting quite dark out at this same time. It really amazes me how a few months either way make the difference.

TK, do you agree with the CPC outlook at this time? My bet is by next week you will be getting July 4th questions aplenty. 🙂

  10. Well The Farners’ Almanac which everyone knows I read for humor and don’t believe the 85% accuracy says it will be fair from July 4th-7th but on the 1st-3rd its calling for violent thunderstorms. Of course where were the severe storms for New England from June 16th-19th and the day of the tornadoes on June 1st it called for fair and warm conditions.

  11. Busy day today! Had to pick up a friend at Logan and my dad had minor surgery (nothing life threatening) so I haven’t gotten to the blog until now. At least the weather was very nice today for all the running around I and others had to do. Updating the blog now…
