Monday Forecast

1:23AM

DAYS 1-5 (FEBRUARY 15-19)…
Today is a holiday (Presidents Day) for many and this week is school vacation week for many as well. Changing weather is expected from the departure of the Arctic air to a storm that starts as snow and becomes rain, to a couple weaker systems and variable temperatures later in the week. The main feature will be a pretty potent low pressure area that tracks just west of southern New England late Tuesday. Ahead of this, overrunning of increasingly mild and moist air over stubborn Arctic air will result in snow developing later today and this evening, transitioning to sleet then rain, with a period of freezing rain causing some icing over some mainly interior areas of MA and southern NH. The entire precipitation area may pivot back to the west in response to the track of the low and the pulling of a frontal boundary for a time during the day Tuesday, but a heavier band of rain should slide back across the area as the low passes, followed by a rapid drying process from southwest to northeast Tuesday night. Wednesday, a much weaker follow up low pressure area will bring clouds and perhaps a rain/snow shower. High pressure builds in late in the week with a cooler and blustery Thursday and a more tranquil Friday, though clouds will return by later Friday as the next system approaches from the west.
TODAY: Sunny start. Cloudy finish. Snow developing CT/RI and South Coast of MA by mid to late afternoon. Temperatures start out the day -10 to +5, coldest interior valleys of MA and NH and least cold South Coast, then rise into the 20s during the day. Wind light variable becoming S up to 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: Overcast. Snow progressing northward during the evening with accumulations of under 1 inch from the South Shore to the South Coast of MA and across southern RI and 1-3 inches elsewhere. Snow transitioning to sleet then rain from south to north by later evening through overnight but a period of freezing rain mainly over interior MA and southern NH with some minor ice accretion favoring locations north of the Mass Pike and outside I-495 in north central MA and southern NH. Temperatures rising from the 20s into and through the 30s. Wind S increasing to 10-20 MPH.
TUESDAY: Cloudy. Intermittent rain in the morning. Steadier rain, possibly moderate to heavy, from southwest to northeast during the afternoon and evening including the slight risk of embedded thunder. Highs 45-50 north central MA and southern NH and 50s elsewhere. Wind S to SW 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Rain ending southwest to northeast followed by partial clearing. Lows in the 30s. Wind SW to W 15-25 MPH with higher gusts.
WEDNESDAY: Variably cloudy. Slight risk of passing rain and/or snow showers. Highs in the 40s morning, falling back into the 30s afternoon. Wind W to NW 15-25 MPH with higher gusts.
THURSDAY: Partly cloudy. Slight risk of isolated snow showers. Windy. Lows in the 20s. Highs in the 30s.
FRIDAY: Mostly sunny morning. Partly cloudy afternoon. Lows middle 10s to lower 20s. Highs around 40.

DAYS 6-10 (FEBRUARY 20-24)…
Low pressure passing north of the region will bring possible light mix pre-dawn of February 20 then a few rain showers during the morning. Fair, gusty wind, and cooling late February 20 through February 21. A pair of low pressure systems will bring some unsettled weather, at least cloudiness and possibly some precipitation, during the February 22-24 period, but details cannot be determined just yet.

DAYS 11-15 (FEBRUARY 25-29)…
Fair and colder February 25-26. Watching the period February 27-29 for possible winter storm threat.

  1. Question TK..will be up in NH today. Don’t want to be driving in the snow if anything because other drivers forget how to drive in their 50k luxury SUVs (you know the ones in the commercial that are scaling snowy mountains during a snowstorm with ease?). That’s being said if we are in the coating-1″ range I am not too worried. I assume in your post you have us in the 1-3″ zone?

      1. Ok thanks. The trend this winter has been we’ve been on he higher end of ranges which leads me to believe 2-3″ then. Will monitor during the day but guessing we might try to get back to MA before it starts around here. Still thinking between 5-7pm around Woburn?

    1. Thanks JpDave. I still think that 1-3 makes it into boston. The NAM has the right idea. The cold hangs tough a bit longer than depicted in my opinion. Once the parent low hits the coast; however, it moves north northeast over western MA which floods in the warm air changing everything over to brief ice and then rain later this evening.

        1. I thought it would have trouble making Zero here.
-6 is pretty impressive for a follow-up night. What was it
          yesterday?

Only 0.7 is the best it could do.

  2. Never made it to zero here. Bottomed out at 0.7
    Currently 6.3

HRRR has it start snowing here around 7-8PM.
Has changeover 11-Midnight. Has it go above freezing Mid-1AM Right on the coast.
    Considerably later inland.

Mostly less than an inch. Boston North it has 1-2 inches.
No 3 inch amounts in the entire state on the HRRR run.

Will be monitoring HRRR and RAP for any last minute changes. 12Z NAM out shortly.

    1. Do you agree with that start time in Boston? Trend this winter seems to be things get here faster than expected but curious this time.

            1. You will note that the break away echoes
out ahead of the main event will contribute
to our snow and then it is gone as we warm up at all levels.

  3. -12 here this morning @7am, three degrees warmer than yesterday. Son-in-law drove up from Plainville and watched his outside air temp gauge drop as he came across I84 to Hartford and up I91. Once again, we’re colder than BDL.

  4. NAM is going West of the Hudson and just West Of Binghamton. Talk about an inside runner. A little more West and it’s a cutter!!!!

  5. The 925MB temperature may put and end to SNOW before anything else and depending
how much cold is below that layer, it may go directly to Freezing rain/rain depending
upon the surface temperature. It is possible for s short duration the cold might
be thick enough for some sleet.

  6. -13F this morning in Coventry, CT – only a few degrees warmer than the low temp yesterday. Hard to fathom that we are going to be 65 degrees warmer in just over 24 hours.

3 hours of snow at best tonight with that warm air surging up the coast. It is going to have to come down pretty hard right off the bat to squeeze 2 or 3″ out before the changeover.

  7. I’m thinking my call for boston is going to workout . I still think it comes in earlier between 5-6 and I’m going with the high end amount of 3 inches before the changeover . I think I saw above a WWA was posted for Boston which makes sense . I personally think the cold air hangs on longer. This is just my opinion and I could be wrong. Im sure I’ll be working so I’ll report from the city later tonight .

    1. No way it starts 5-6 PM. No way.
As for 3 inches, well let’s just say I think that is a stretch.
We shall see. NWS has Boston less than 1 inch. I will admit that
the HRRR is hinting at more. Need more runs to be sure.
I think it is a tease and we are on the lower end.

  8. This storm is really a disaster for the ski areas with the changeover occurring all the way north to the Canadian border. Even Killington may be pushing 50 tomorrow. The only saving grace is that the warm up will be short lived.

    1. I was so hoping the ski areas would get a good amount of snow. I need to talk to my brother again to see if it has improved, but that has been the problem with some of the ski areas. Warming and then freezing. So a layer of ice on the base. I detested ice. Some don’t mind it much at all.

  9. Have a little ice dam work to do this morning in just a couple of areas. Don’t want any surprises tomorrow :).

    1. I was hoping ours will melt slowly. You, on the other hand, are being wisely proactive, so I’m wondering if we need to shop away some outlets also. My son and son in law thank you 🙂

  10. Really liking the look of the GFS for end of next week though. Trough is re-established over the east with a storm developing and riding up the coast.

    http://mag.ncep.noaa.gov/Image.php?fhr=252&image=data%2Fgfs%2F06%2Fgfs_namer_252_850_temp_mslp_precip.gif&model=gfs&area=namer&param=850_temp_mslp_precip&group=Model+Guidance&preselected_formatted_cycle_date=20160215+06+UTC&imageSize=M&ps=model

0Z Euro is not as deep and amplified but has a similar idea at day 10 and is showing a developing low pressure near Kentucky.

    1. Don’t hold your breath. 😀
Euro Ensembles would take this OTS.
It’s 10 days out and for the most part this is all fantasyland.

      We shall see.

      1. Not getting mired in the details yet but the overall pattern with possible east coast trough developing late next week looks good. This is what TK has been hinting might happen, though he likes a few days later than what the GFS is currently showing.

        1. Sure, I get that. He also said the main threat was
closer to the 29th, so this may not be the one.
Hope it is and I too, certainly like the looks of it.

          We shall see.

One more thing…the way this Winter has been I look at
all of these models way out in time as nothing but
          teases.

    1. Not a big surprise. Rapid moist air increase mid levels today on south wind. This leads to more snow. Not much more..but more.

  11. 14Z Operational HRRR total snow ending at Midnight and this is just about the end
of any snow Boston South. Will look at the 15Z run when it is out.

    http://rapidrefresh.noaa.gov/HRRR/for_web/hrrr_ncep_jet/2016021514/t3/acsnw_t3sfc_f15.png

So HRRR has it snowing for about 4, 4 1/2 hours with rates of 1/2 to 1 inch per hour.
Probably closer to 1/2 inch per hour, this a total of 2 inches + for Boston on THIS RUN.

Not sure the HRRR is correct this time around, but it could be. TK your thoughts?

    1. If you missed it, this was a treat. He was on With Danielle Niles and Terry Eliason. I hope they do this more often. AWESOME!!!

  12. I do not like these types of storms especially since the ground has been able to become frozen, with snow cover still around 7 to 9 inches. This could lead to a lot of river rises, worried about the marshland behind my house. Last time this type of storm hit us, half my street flooded.

    1. On a brighter note. The gfs maintains course with a big storm Wednesday into Friday. long duration event? It could be very beneficial to me if classes are canceled on that Friday 😉 gfs shows around 7 to 9 inches of snow to fall with still half the storm to effect the area, also not totally out of the question as the set up makes sense.

  13. will NOT start as mix. It starts as snow and after about 3-5 hours goes to
    sleet/frzing rain/rain very quickly.

Changeover around Midnight in Boston or a tad sooner as it now looks.

  14. I have a question re snow consistency or if there is enough to be concerning. Our neighbor had a tree that straddles our property lines. A huge part came down in their yard the last storm with the heavy snow. I was just out with the dog and noticed part of the tree that shoots off into our yard is splitting. It would land on a good portion of our house.

Is the snow at the start going to be enough to weigh the trees? I want to call her but she just had minor surgery and I hate to bother her as I know her husband will be busy helping her as it is.

    Thank you?

    1. It is just JP here and Not TK, but I personally don’t think it should be an issue.
There will only be an inch or 2 of powder, then it will get wet and probably fall off. I think it only sticks when it falls wet. Just my thought fwiw. Good luck.

      1. Thank you, and I never think of you as just JP. I still want to call her but at least it isn’t imperative that it be dealt with right away.

  15. 12z GFS is beautiful for late next week as Matt mentioned. Moisture loaded long duration coastal storm with snow for 30+ hours. What are the odds that run locks in for the next 10 days??

Pattern looks wintery beyond that into early March as well…..at least on that run.

      1. All you need to do is think before you post that’s all. You’ll be fine if you do that . I’m sure tk does not want to boot you from here but you need to follow the rules of his blog. I for one don’t want to see you booted just take a deep breath and start over ok. I am trying to give you good advice here ok.

    1. Thank you for that music post. Linda Ronstadt was always even better than her press. I believe she has Parkinson’s now and can no longer sing but is a beautiful human being with a great attitude.

  16. HRRR is not seeing current radar echoes. Does not portray these echoes on its
reflectivity screen at all. I don’t get it.

    1. Nice John. Double time? Be safe and as always, I know how much people appreciate access to the hospitals. They just do not know how or who to thank. So I say thank you for all of those I heard over the past two years that were grateful the entries were clear.

  17. Charlie: the sooner you comply the better chance you have of an earlier ability to post.

You are not being held to a standard any different than anyone else. Your opinion of cold/snow or any other weather had no impact on this action. I cannot do so now because I am working but later I will cite some examples from your own posts as the reasons for the action.

    1. My suggestion – stay the night at Church Landing – in a room with a fireplace overlooking the lake. Sighhhhh….Now I made myself want to go there 🙂

      1. I haven’t been to Church Landing but I do like Meredith. I remember what it was like back in the 70s. Not much more than a crossroad with the boat landing, the gas station that sold fireworks, Frankensundaes and little diner. Still has a nice small village feel to it.

        1. Keith we stopped at that diner every time we headed up to ski in North Conway. It is like a different world up there now. Very nice. Someone got smart.

      2. Oh wow that place is spectacular especially around the holidays. My wife and I have made it a tradition to take our boys up there each year around that time.

    1. John I believe your post (as well as Vicki’s) were a direct response to Charlie’s post. I’m thinking that if TK left it out there then it would have no point of reference to it and might be confusing.

        1. Jp Dave the reason why the euro does not have the storm further south is due to the southern stream energy not interacting with the energy coming from the plains/great lakes. Like mark said, looks like a clipper on that run, Looks suspect to me as the euro had the storm starting to develop just like the gfs on the 00z run

  18. We had a light snow flurry earlier here in Sudbury – some scattered flakes falling now.

Severe weather in LA, AL and possibly Northern FL – even were and maybe now tornado warnings in the area.

  19. Obama has passed Teddy Roosevelt in protecting land and Water. Major wins. But a loss in the supreme court. He got 3 out of the 5 of what he wanted to protect.. But he is on to the next areas, Which includes the areas about 45 miles off the northeast coast of Florida up 45 miles east of the Georgia coast as a marine sanctuary due to sharks. Also a large area off of the Washington and Oregon coastline are areas over the ocean. Big win for conservationists these past 3 years

  20. 12z Euro total snowfall through next 10 days:
    http://i.imgur.com/2eQXYOO.jpg

Not much here but northern New England gets in on the action Saturday and again early next week with a couple decent snow events. Hopefully will help the ski areas recover after the mess tomorrow.

  21. SSK… If a post is unapproved (temporarily or permanently), any replies to it will become hidden. Any other posts you make will be fine. 🙂

    1. Have fun, TK and young TK – we have a sledding hill in our new back yard. Suspect we won’t be able to use until next winter but we can have a sledding party 🙂

    1. Keep in mind that most of the precip is light. If it snows 1/4 inch per hour x 4 hours that is only 1 inch. Not saying that is going to happen but the snow heading our way is not terribly heavy prior to the changeover. I say 1-3 inches is a good bet with two inches being most likely on average as the changeover occurs from due south to north.

      1. Take it easy on OS. He merely pointed out what the models were depicting. Keep in mind. This precip is not from the main storm which is still down the coast over the midatlantic and NYC.

          1. And I am still not convinced on the snow amounts
            at all.

NO WAY Boston ever gets three. Lucky for 2.
            More like 1 or Less.

    1. Snow map is more in line with my thinking of 1-3 inches. 1 on the southshore, 2 in Boston and 3 close to the NH border prior to the changeover.

  22. Hrrr might be right with the amount of snowfall, I believe the same thing that happened with the last system could happen, it snows for a period of time but has a hard time accumulating.

but then again, looking at radar, very well could get 1-3 inches.

  23. Snowing lightly in Eastham on Cape Cod.

The inner salt harbors are lightly frozen over, with about 6 inches of snow on the ground.

  24. Just left the sled zone. Awesome runs! Packed snow/ice. Fast! Over 100 yard long rides.

Very light snow with a light dusting in Woooooobin (Woburn).

  25. From BB

This Initial String Of Lt. Snow/Flurries Will Probably Weaken. Main Swath Of Snow Arrives Up To MA Pike/Boston 6-7PM

  26. The snow depth was 34″ here a year ago today.

The temperature swing will be 65 degrees (-10 to +55) in 55 hours from 7 am yesterday to 3 pm tomorrow.

    1. It was actually -13F at my house this morning at 7AM. If I reach 55 by tomorrow PM, that will be a 68 degree increase in less than 30 hours! That is on average over a 2F increase in temp every hour for 30 straight hours. Crazy.

  27. This system appears to go straight to rain from Snow which will most likely be
a period of freezing rain up in these parts.

  28. Snowing steadily now in Manchester CT and the intensity has increased. Everything is covered. We look to be in the meat of it now for the next 3 or 4 hours.

  29. at 5PM Islip, LI NY reporting 34 with light snow. Radar now shows it raining there.
Not sure if it is, but radar says that.

  30. My concern is that some icing issues impact Metro West as well as all of the Merrimack Valley all the way to around the time of the morning commute. Fortunately it’s school vacation week in most locations around here so that will help. Ground temps are going to take their sweet time warming.

Not much rain falls during tomorrow until after 4PM, but when it gets here it may be heavy duty including thunderstorms and very gusty winds.

Looking ahead a bit, and a bit more…
Quiet period midweek through the weekend but a minor system Saturday will bring lots of clouds, wind, and a few rain/snow showers. Then we get into an “every other day” threat starting Monday of next week. One of those threats (more likely one after Monday) will bring the next threat of accumulating snow. Still feel there is a storm threat somewhere in the February 27-29 period. Serious cold returns again in the early days of March and another storm threat looms before the end of the first week of the month. Then it looks like a major pattern change by the middle of March.

    1. Thanks for the update. Busy afternoon. Hoping I can get what needs to be done right before that moves in.

  31. Hi everyone!!! Its good to be back. Hope everyone made through the cold snap okay.
It was snow lightly when my plane landed at Bradley. First time ever I have landed and it was snowing. Florida was great nice temps plenty of sunshine.

  32. Are there any tile pros out there? I’m finishing my basement and I’ve been in the process of laying the flooring (dark wood-look porcelean tiles). The day after I grouted some of the dark grout turned white. From what I’ve read I either mixed in too much water or used too much water when wiping. I then tried grouting another area using less water in the mix and wrung out the sponge real well in cleaning up. Still the same result. Any ideas?

    1. Ace SIL said all he could think of is defective grout or is there too much moisture in basement. He asked what temp is down there. Can you call place you got it. ? If you want or have more questions I can give you daughters info on FB so you can talk directly. Not sure he can help any more than that but he’d be happy to if possible

      1. Thanks Vicki, and thank your SIL. I may bring the grout back to HD but it’s rare to have a bad batch. It’s cool down there, usually stays between 62 and 65 with humidity ranging from 30-45%. I have a vapor barrier between the concrete floor and it is raised 1″ off the concrete too but maybe some moisture is leaking through.

    2. Is is the adhesive from below that got squeezed up into the joints and you just didn’t realize it? Been there.

      1. I definitely scrapped away any excess mortar from the grout lines before I grouted. Plus I waited 3 days to grout after laying down the tile.

    1. They do, which is why I’m concerned with some icy areas right into commute time tomorrow over interior valleys.

  33. Thanks TK and AceMaster
Looks like there will be some wintry threats going into March from reading the blog.

  34. Just drove from Meredith NH to Woburn…snowing more in NH. Hit heavy squalls an hour or so ago by exits 21-23…then again by exit 9 until 6. Hit MA and nothing really.

  35. TK – Does that major pattern change for the middle of March mean typical spring temps and the end of winter for all practical purposes?

    1. To confirm above is correct, here is the ISLIP, LI report at 6PM

Last Updated: Feb 15 2016, 5:56 pm EST

  36. Still snowing at all reporting stations in CT as of 7PM. Hartford temp in the CT River Valley still cold holding at 15 but Groton has warmed to 34.

  37. +9F and rising atop Mt Washington with a SW wind gusting to 65mph. Not out of the question the observatory hits 40F tomorrow after their low of -40F yesterday!

  38. Hi folks! I’m taking a flight into Logan tomorrow that lands at 3:30PM. Any idea IF that will actually be feasible? Trying to adjust evening meetings and could use some educated opinions?

    Thank you guys!

        1. Unless rain is a little bit more progressive you may just make it before the heaviest hits. That will be a pretty good line though, so dpending on cloud heights with it that may cause some alternate flight paths too.

  39. Damn TK you called it! Been snowing hard for a while and no doubt we will exceed the coating – 1″. Pouring snow!

  40. We have flipped to either sleet or freezing rain almost statewide in CT and RI based on 9PM obs. BDL was still holding onto light snow as of 9PM.

    1. That said, temps are still in the upper teens and low 20’s most places so several more hours of icing is likely.

  41. Moderate snow in Andover, quick inch, still 19, visibility greater than 1/2 inch…
Spent most of a week getting my back yard ice rink back in order, skated today, hoping to survive this, shovel the snow before it turns and let rain just top it off and refreeze for later this week.

    1. We are down to 1/4 inch ;). First year my son in law hasn’t had skating rink. He spent a ton in water last year and it never really froze. I wish you luck and know he would also

  42. Ok, I apologize in advance for this very long post, but it’s going to contain examples of inappropriate comments that resulted in a probation period and a temporary posting ban for Charlie. I will interject comments after them…

    1) In reply to Aidan.
    Cmon!! L=Laughing M=My B=Butt O=Off
(This comment is not necessary and is just clutter and also a quiet jab because he didn’t know what something meant and asked an honest question. The reply was juvenile.)

    2) In reply to South shore Kid.
    Lol!!! It’s boston
(This was one of the many many posts that mock people for saying anything positive about Boston. I’ve asked you to stop these, but they continue on a routine basis).

    3) In reply to Alisonarod.
Arod I will never give up, and I won’t say what someone else wants me to say or see.
(That was part of a string of comments that were asked by many to be removed as I had deemed them insulting to some of our users who were merely stating opinions but being told they were basically crazy for thinking that. I’d post those replies, but I had removed them long ago).

    4) In reply to Joshua.
    Lol
(Ok, so “lol” by itself is not necessarily offensive. The problem is you have put this comment after dozens and dozens of honest statements by many of my bloggers as a short way of saying they are nuts, and I’ve asked you to not overdo this. That request has been repeatedly ignored. We all use it, and I don’t mind its use in moderation and in a respectful manner, but this has not been your practice).

    5) (This is a string that appeared together.)
    a) In reply to Vicki.
I’m seeing on the news people pulling an almost dead shark back into the ocean. Lol dummies, it’s beached!! Let it die
(You can have any opinion you wish on this, but this comment was not cool at all.)
    b) In reply to Vicki.
    Lol whaaa?
(This is the type of comment you use on here all the time to put down someone’s opinion.)
    c) this is a side note: let’s take buckets of water and throw it on a beached shark into 4ft of ocean water,, smh!! It was beached, it’s naturally dieing, that same shark will kill one of our kids, again smh 🙂
(You went right back to talking about this again after I asked you not to. And is “smh” really necessary? Makes you sound like you’re in 7th grade, but whatever flips your chocolate chip.)

    6) This weather is useless, just saying, just went out, heard one person say “why do I live where the air hurts my face”?
Folks don’t take it to heart, I’m not putting down Boston or the area. It’s plain funny, well really it’s not funny at all. Ugh
(One of your many “I’m not putting (insert whatever, usually Boston, here) down. Yes you are. At least just admit that much.

    7) In reply to Philip.
That’s nuts!!! This is why in 15 yrs when you hrrr this, mostly are like “what”, and don’t remember it.
(This one was one of those subtle put downs of someone else’s opinion, in this case, their assessment of the impact of an event. Not necessary on your part).

    8) I always believe you tk, but in this case it’s moving north quickly, I’m traveling north 95 to North Attleboro now. It is moving north rather quickly. No?
(Perhaps the comment itself is not “offensive” but you state “I always believe you” in a comment right before and right after comments in which you disputed FACTS that I gave about the location of the end of an area of snow and its northward movement. I’m out here trying to give the best information I can to people. It’s one thing to have a difference of opinion on some subject, but this was a step beyond that. You had been spending a great deal of time trying to convince the “snow lovers” that the storm was ending earlier than expected, which it was not. It actually went on longer than expected. Why do you bother doing that? Just go with the flow. Like it or not, it’s gonna do what it’s gonna do. Just a word of advice.)

9)In reply to South shore kid.
Makes sense considering it all ends by 9pm. Not much more than a few snow showers or flurries gonna fall after that John
(Again, not an offensive statement, but I put it here to illustrate that I had said that the area John was concerned about was going to snow until midnight or 1AM, and then you come on and immediately try to undermine the real information I had given him. The man was out there doing work to keep people safe, working a long shift, and just wanted the best information available. Can you not relate to working long hours to help people out?)

    10) In reply to matt souza.
I can’t copy and paste but I seriously see 45+ with consistency on and after Feb 20th.
(I put this one here because some of the other comments were removed, but this was a typical statement you make to try to get under the skin of someone who was legitimately talking about the weather pattern. I asked you what you were looking at to support consistent 45+ degree weather after February 20, but you can never provide the information. It’s time to stop using statements like this just to try to ruffle the feathers of people that like the kind of weather that you dislike. You’re NOT being singled out because you dislike the weather. You’re being spoken to about trying to upset others that don’t share your opinion. It stands out like a sore thumb and there is no question that this is your intention.)

    11) In reply to South shore kid.
I came here from the wbz blog. 🙂
Some of those guys have absolutely no interest in weather and insult snow lovers and weather lovers, I don’t do that here, it’s not even close.
( Since I am the one that has the final decision in what is insulting and what isn’t, I’ll tell you right now that this comment is a flat out lie. “It’s not even close”? Yes, you do that here in your subtle and sometimes not-so-subtle ways. Not only that, you know that’s what your intention is when you do it. Sometimes you do just honestly talk about the weather, which is fine. Why you have to go that extra step to take jabs, I’ll never know.)

    12) In reply to Weatherman.
You know I never insult anybody here, never will, I love weather, I just like cold and snow the least, that’s all, Ik it’s different
(You reply to your own comments quite often, don’t you? Anyway, the point is, in my assessment, this is another false statement, as I have found numerous insulting comments by you. And it’s not about who loves cold and/or snow and who does not. You always make that part of the issue, and I’m not sure why. It takes away from the discussion. It’s downright distracting. And it derails the purpose for which I set this blog up.)

    13) In reply to Woods Hill Weather.
But yes I talk email to other weather watchers and folks that read this blog, I have no idea about wbz’s blog. They like this blog much better. They say there are extremely rude and insulting folks on the wbz’s blog that they don’t want any part of.
(I have trouble believing this is true. I ask you to send those people here, and then you tell me they tried and were denied access, but then somehow you cannot manage to email them back, give them the email I told you to give them, and have them write to me directly if they are having trouble accessing my blog. I’m still waiting for them, but I think I will continue to do that due to the mere fact that they do not exist. Tell the truth consistently. It makes you much more believable and more likable.)

    14) In reply to Joshua.
I understand Joshua, but I’m not the only person wishing the snow away, as I’m walking out of wegmans today, I overhear a couple saying “the Suns melting the snow, that’s good”. I love the weather but don’t love the snow. Many in southern New England DO NOT like snow. I’m not saying that to be irrigont, I’m saying it because that’s the majority. Many conversations today hoping for early spring. I don’t know why folks here become offended. I’m not offended by most on the blog liking snow. “I’m the miniority”. It’s ok!! 🙂
(This comment is a big one, because it represents numerous comments that are very similar. You are making an issue, or set it issues here, that need not be made. It’s amazing how many people you “overhear” talking about opinions that match yours. That’s great. I give you the award for expert eavesdropping. Congratulations! But seriously, what is your obsession with pointing out to my bloggers that they are in the minority in their opinions on weather? So many comments Charlie, so many of them mention this MINORITY / MAJORITY thing, asking why folks become offended that you don’t like snow. NOBODY BECOMES OFFENDED BECAUSE YOU DISLIKE SNOW. Get that through your head once and for all and don’t make this repeating comment again. And stop trying to make the people that happen to like it feel like they are somehow “wrong” because they have an opinion that less than 50% of the population has. They don’t care, trust me. And they don’t care whether you love snow or loathe it. This just takes up unnecessary space on my blog.

    15) In reply to Vicki.
Vicki, we sometimes talk about storms 1 week or longer while we are in mild spells, but most are talking about a week out, it doesn’t mean there not enjoying the present.
(This is another one you go after all the time. This post insulted her intelligence and I highly frown on that.)

    16) In reply to Longshot.
Ive talk to a few ametuer weather watchers/mets that I won’t say, but they have told me they had 1 report in the south end of 5.7 inches. And 8.0 inches 3 blocks down the road, to 6 inches 4 blocks down the road from that. They told me 8-12 fell west of Boston in the metro west down to northern ri area, said that was jackpot zone. They read the blog at least 2 or 3 times a week. They also said most locales received between 4-8 inches.
(So, who are all these amateur mets that you happen to know right in the city? And why can’t you mention the mets? I would like to know who they are. Did they tell you they read the blog 2 or 3 times a week? All of them? I’m sorry but nothing you wrote here is believable. The reason I bring it up is because you use posts like this for various reasons, usually to make someone feel like they missed out on the heaviest amounts, or that some weather observers don’t tell the truth. You’ll say this was not your purpose but I see right through it. I’ve been doing this a long time. Post truthful statements.)

    17) In reply to South shore kid.
He’s not gonna toss me, I don’t insult anybody, I just voice my opinion, and tk knows that.
    (This one speaks for itself.)

    18) In reply to Woods Hill Weather.
    I’ll take a chill, sorry
(You’re the only person to have to make statements like this. Why is that?)

    19) In reply to Woods Hill Weather.
Ok, I’ll get away from this conversation 🙂
(See #18. Nobody else has to do this. Posts like this do nothing for the blog.)

    20) In reply to Weatherman.
I’m not talking about tk, he doesn’t hype, I’m talking about the bloggers, however I do like all the bloggers they want snow, again no offense intended, and it’s totally understandable. There’s no reason to cancel school to cancel school, just my opinion, and never before even flakes fall.
(The part about your opinion on school cancellation is fine. The problem here stands out loud and clear. “I’m talking about the bloggers…” And again, WHY do you have to constantly make the statement that no offense is intended. With your posts that statement is a MAJOR red flag that it’s going to go right there to the limit, or beyond it.)

    21) In reply to Vicki.
Don’t fall into the hype of a weather blog that is going to hype the storm, we are weather enthusiasts, and human nature is to hype, no offense included. If it’s raining in the morning, and over by noon, everyone is safe!!! I don’t understand
(This statement not only insulted Vicki but insulted me, and my blog. Deplorable. And again the “no offense” statement?)

    22) the 00z nam will be right, watch.
    In reply to Weatherman.
I know no one here wants to go with 00z nam, but I’ve been waiting to see what it comes in with considering it has the best data
(You only made this statement because some of us were doubting the NAM which had gone with much less for a snow event when I was calling for more. Again it was another one of your sorta subtle jabs at people who wanted to see snow. Oh, and the NAM was wrong on that one. We actually got more snow than even I had forecast.)

    23) In reply to WeatherWiz.
I’m going to laugh if there’s a coating on ground at 6-7am.
(We’d been talking about that we’d have several inches of snow on the ground by a certain time and you were waiting for us to be wrong and disappointed. There was a lot more to this conversation that lead to this comment, which was another jab.)

    24) In reply to JP Dave.
    Is that what you hope??
(This was a knock at Dave for liking snow. Reading the entire conversation made that quite clear.)

    25) Ernie boch voting for trump and announces it. Wow!! Why would he ever announce that? Especially here! He owns a business!! What a dummy!! You just keep it to yourself especially when you own multiple dealerships in a democratic state. Dummy!!! He doesn’t need to, Ernie boch owns huge businesses all over Massachusetts, this isn’t about just not liking him because of his vote, this is going to hurt his pockets, again he’s a dummy!!! At the sametime I think what happen to free speech, I guess you can, but boch is going to see a drop in sales, guaranteed!!! Actually it’s sad too
(You’re entitled to your opinion, but I asked a long time ago that politics be kept off this blog and you promised not to bring it up. Promise broken. Blog policy violated.)

    26) In reply to Woods Hill Weather.
I do apologize for bringing the blog into a frenzy over whether it snows or not in April. I know it CAN snow, but I guess what I’m saying is it usually does not, that’s all. I’m not a jerk although many think I am. Again didn’t mean to get under anyone’s skin, and with that, again I’m sorry.
(I asked for this apology to be made, and you did it, which was fine. But the reason I posted this comment was to show an example of what you do every late Winter. You start a debate on April snow as if we all think April is a snowy month every year. We know the stats of April’s snow in the Boston area. We know the history regarding April’s snow events. There is no more debate to be had on this subject. You only bring it up now to get under the skin of people who you think are upset because Winter is over. I’ve been watching this go on for a few years here and it’s old. Time to leave this one alone.)

    27) In reply to Vicki.
It’s the same thing every year, remember this, remember that, of course it rarley snows in April, but not normally, just saying, again has it snowed in April since this blog was born?? NO!!!
(Your point? Other than insulting Vicki? You have a thing for telling people what they should and shouldn’t talk about, and what they should and shouldn’t like, don’t you? This comment angered me excessively and got you very close to being booted for good.)

    28) Not trying to upset the blog, we just go through this April snow theory like winter is over in early February. It’s like clockwork,, “snow” doesn’t mean winter continues, cold temps alone in my book with no snow still continue winter.
(Theory? It’s actually a fact. But other than that I have no real idea what you were trying to accomplish with this comment which did nothing but disrespect the readers and posters here. Why is it so important to you that we stop talking about April snow?)

    29) All I’m saying, and this is no way in offense of anyone is we go through this every year, I mean every single year. Maybe,,, just maybe it’s this year, BUT probably not, again I totally understand it’s a weather blog, and we bring up dates in the past, which feel like different life’s ago, like 96, but it’s 20yrs ago!! Once a lifetime!!! I just try to bring real life to the blog that’s all.
On a side note I guess up to 10 maybe 15 emails per week that regularly look at the blog that chat with me, that either can’t type, or are not accepted, that state the very same thing. Again this is no offense to a great weather blog, but just saying. 🙂
(Again, the no offense comment comes, and then we repeat the part about going through this every year, and then the part about this being a weather blog *yawn*. Later you tried to justify the statement about 1996 by saying that anything that happened a certain number of years ago no longer exists. That was…interesting. Trying to bring real life to the blog? Well you failed there, but you didn’t fail in bringing distraction and disrespect. Ok, so about the side note. How are the ones that cannot type emailing you? And I’m still waiting for the emails from these people who are getting denied access. Well? Where are they? I don’t believe a word of what you said up there, and neither does anyone else. TELL THE TRUTH.)

    30) In reply to Vicki.
    April it doesn’t normally snow
(I put this comment here because I had asked you to let it go and to leave Vicki alone, and then you still had to get this one more shot in. I’m still very disappointed in you. I do not have this problem with anybody else on this blog. Only you.)

    31) In reply to AceMaster.
Lol your not allowed to say that, if it’s not a forecast of snow, wind, or cold you are wrong, and no the sky is not blue. Lol (kidding) 🙂
    (The joke’s old.)

    32) In reply to Weatherman.
Sorry we got tweets, and Facebook outlets along with news that in the end, it’s usually about scare tactics, some will use the word “potential” unfortunately that’s not a good word bc most take that as it’s coming.
(This was a personal shot at me because you know that I use the word “potential” all the time, and you’ve gone after me for it before. There’s nothing wrong with using the word. If anything is wrong with it, it’s the fault of those who cannot understand the definition of a commonly used word in their own language.)

    33) In reply to Woods Hill Weather.
Understandable tk, wasn’t meant to be offensive, just was at a banquet, and heard several folks talking about how we deserve a mild winter after last year, that’s all. 🙂
(Again??? If I had a dime for every time…..)

    34) In reply to Woods Hill Weather.
In a city that needs the mbta so very bad, it’s sad that no money has been spent to keep up with it. On a side note some of these train stops such as Mansfield, attkeboro, etc in Sharon the train doesn’t stop past 8pm. Many of these train stops have not changed in the last 30+ yrs, and are so outdated. Many still have dirt parking lots. Smh
    (“smh”)

    35) In reply to Vicki.
Totally I just voice my opinion strongly, if some, and many do say on here that I’m crazy that I count the days down to spring. I’m not offended. That’s there right. It’s ok 🙂
(Nobody has ever said you were crazy for counting down the days to Spring, but you have essentially said that anyone that counts down the days to Winter IS crazy. Ever hear that saying about the pot and the kettle?)

    36) In reply to Woods Hill Weather.
I will just say, and this is fact. More New Englanders watched 8 out of the 16 regular season Patriots games than both 2007 and 2013 redsox World Series. The patriots had a 49.5 share game 1. The redsox World Series had a 39.4 share. Yesterday’s playoff game, 49.3 Million watched that game. half of that watches the World Series in America. It’s not close, and I’m not being rude.
(This is only one example of COUNTLESS posts like this. And again, why the line about not being rude? I don’t get that. Oh and this and a bunch of other sports posts came after you had declared that you were not going to post about sports on a weather blog anymore, but just talk about it on your 5 sports blogs.)

    37) In reply to Woods Hill Weather.
    Lol it’s a weather blog
(Is it? I had no idea. Thanks!)

    38) In reply to Vicki.
I’m not being disrespectful. I’m asking a simple question. Om gosh
(Childish comments were spewing from you were. I deleted most of them but this one got missed, somehow, and now I’m glad, so I can cite it as one of these examples.)

    39) In reply to Woods Hill Weather.
Lol I smh more here than ever, what’s going on?
(If you find yourself “syh” so often, then why are you here? Why don’t YOU tell me what’s going on? Another useless post.)

    40) In reply to Scott77.
    Omg
    (And again…)

    41) I honestly have no idea what the hek you folks are talking about, smh,, everyone is offended. What’s going on? I’m not being disrespectful. What’s going on?? Seriously???
(You should have asked yourself all those questions. Very childish post again).

    42) In reply to Tom.
Of course have a great time, but if he loves snow so MUCH!!! why go in Feb? I’m not here to be rude. Geez don’t be offended smh. It’s like me going to Winnepeg in January, why do that? I don’t like cold and I don’t really like snow. I’d rather have palm trees and warmth. It’s just a question.
(“I’m not here to be rude. Geez don’t be offended smh…” Seriously, WHY?).

    43) In reply to Joshua.
Why do u live in Boston then? It’s a big city
(For some reason you felt the need to go after Joshua, part 1).

    44) In reply to Joshua.
If you like it quiet and here a snow plows, you should move to farmland, I’m not saying this to be offensive Joshua, I find it that most would rather have a bustling city?
    (…and part 2).

    45) In reply to Woods Hill Weather.
But you know this blog will still talk about it, or think it’s going to happen, kinda like when they thought 2 ft was gonna happen back earlier this week, we laugh lol 🙂
(Another cheap shot at my blog and its participants.)

OK. I think this is far more than enough. But I just kept finding more and more. And these are the comments that I didn’t delete before, and there were a fair amount of those. I’ve had to delete dozens of comments from you, and then we still have these 45 that I have picked from the remaining ones to illustrate the issues we have here. I don’t think I have deleted more than a half dozen comments from all the other users, combined. If that doesn’t tell you something, then I’m not sure how to get it across.

I will let you know privately when you may post again.

To the rest of you, once again I apologize for having to do this, but I felt it was necessary to get this out there. We now move back to the reason this blog exists!

  43. Sleet and freezing rain in N.Attleboro
Temp 27.3 degrees, rising from 22.3 at 6pm.
About a half inch or so of snow/sleet.

  44. Moderate snow in Woburn. Will get a measurement soon. The changeover line is moving rapidly south to north now. Icing is going to become an issue in many areas soon.

  45. Just measures 2 inches in Groveland…snowing very hard…temp has not moved from 20.8 in the last 5 hours

  46. DS… I’m late to the party here as I’ve been a bit busy for nearly 4 hours. I think on a day that starts and ends dicey, your timing will be good. Best of luck!

    1. WHEW! Glad to hear it. Thanks! Now….could you squeeze in a 18-20 inch storm on Wednesday and have it melt by Friday when I leave again? Please? 😉

      Thanks, TK!

    1. 20 and I cannot tell what it is doing. I hear what sounds like frozen precipitation on window. When I look out doesn’t look like snow. How does it rain at a low temp? Warmer temps above?

      1. Exactly. Air is warm above except in the lowest layer. I just went out and it was very slippery. If anyone doesn’t need to be on the roads I would stay off until it gets safely above freezing.

  47. I echo Sue. TK thank you. Your blog is literally the best it could be. I’m honored to be part of this family.

  48. Snow/sleet mix as of 10PM. Right on schedule as far as where I expected the line to be. My snowfall is at 1.8 inch. Forecast for this location is verified (1-3).

      1. If not, they have 3 or 4 more chances easily. We have to watch a couple passing systems next week. February 24 concerns me a bit, as does the last 3 days of the month, and then one more toward the end of the first week of March. And though I never rule snow out completely until April’s about done, even in to May rarely, I think our pattern this year will limit any snow chances after March 10.

        1. Looks like we’ll turn the corner just in time for DST – works for me!

Thanks again for shouldering all of administrative burdens here TK – particularly of late. As the self appointed spokesperson-of-the-day for “former lurkers United” I think I can safely say we appreciate the lack of distraction and newfound (albeit potentially temporary?) peace and quiet. And yes – I believe that “potentially” is often the right word exactly.

  49. Based on radar, it is sleeting all along and south of the Pike. Hopefully it will add to Logan’s snow total. My concern is that freezing rain north of the Pike.

    1. It is now either plain rain or freezing rain being reported around the region. I believe the coastal front is just barely into the city of Boston. I wouldn’t be surprised if Brookline for example has freezing rain. Not totally sure, of course. Just a guess.

  50. sleet storm here in Billerica been sleeting for about an hour now. just starting to see freezing rain which is rain until it hits the ground.

  51. Sounds like it might have switched over to rain here in southeastern Westford but this observation is based on the very scientific approach of me cocking my head to the side and listening to the sounds the precipitation is making on the outside of my (closed) window- sounds like water now. A better and more hearty (wo)man than I might go outside to verify it’s rain now not sleet but I choose instead to hide under the covers and make an educated guess cuz it’s pretty cold out there!

    1. It will get up there soon. It’s taken its sweet time as the remaining Arctic air was very tough to dislodge. Still takes several more hours interior valleys NW of Boston. Will be an icy morning there. Thank goodness most kids are on school vacation so that will reduce traffic and people that have to get somewhere, to some degree anyway.
