  1. I saw that ocean water temps have been a recent topic, stuck at 43F in Boston Harbor.

Perhaps today and tomorrow will reach 46F or 47F around 2 to 4pm.

The reason I propose this is that the onshore flow will be much lighter than its been, the airmass is moderating and we’ll have bright sun hitting the shallow surface layer.

It will be good to see an uptick soon to help the deep chill of the seabreeze ease some.

  2. 45 with a very very light breeze. Was able to sit on the deck with coffee for a bit and listen to the birds. It has the promise of a beautiful Sunday

  3. Everyone else is drawing L’s, so I’ll do the opposite in honor of the system that governs the weather today…

    1. We’re going to be deficient in overall precipitation for some time to come as we have been already (though recently we made up some of it and eased the dryness to a degree). The long term trend remains dry.

      First, it means fire danger.
Later, it means impact on crop development.
Eventually, it means a greater impact on water supply.

I believe this will be a theme into at least early 2017 as well.

  4. Looks like the Pacific jet will be up in southern Canada, looks like the cold air will be mostly locked up north except for the occasional back door sea breeze fronts or minor fronts from the northwest. Have a great Sunday love the blog.

  5. Love this weather! Although we will be experiencing see saw temps over the next few weeks (largely due to progressive pattern and ocean influence), I do see signs of a more persistent pattern of warmth beginning in the first week or two of May as we march toward summer. Thoughts TK?

  6. Went fishing this morning for the first time this year.

Both places were the Charles River, 1st at the Dam at South Natick shown here:

And then at the Dam in Needham. Both places were stocked with trout and that is why I chose them.

    Final tally:

    16 sunfish
    14 yellow perch
    1 white perch
    2 black crappy
    1 largemouth bass (14 inches)
3 brook trout (1 at Natick and 2 at Needham)

Nice morning of fishing. The weather was spectacular as was the fishing.
    That doesn’t happen often.

1st trout I have caught to land in 12 years.

Go Sox, let’s win another. 😀

      1. I expected to catch some. I would have been disappointed. Last year I expected some trout as well and didn’t get it, but got
        a large mouth bonanza instead.

  7. Boston Buoy water temperature sitting at 44.2
Pretty nippy, but I’ll happily take any incremental increase no matter how small.

  8. What a great day. 72F here in Plymouth, NH. Good example of how easy it is to change the temperature of dry air. We were all the way down to 31F this morning. Greater than 40 degree recovery, not many days like that around here.

  9. Thank you tk 🙂

Another beautiful day!! Reached 69.8 degrees. Currently 67.6 degrees.

  10. Wunder station closest to me says 77. I think sun must be hitting it. Others around me say 70 and blackstone confirmed that. I think I cannot wait until my bday to get my own weather station.

  11. To avoid widespread panic, what meteorological term was banned from US forecasts from 1887-1950?

    A. Hurricane
    B. Lightning
    C. Tornado
    D. Blizzard

    Answer later today.

  12. Soo so dry. Hill in our back yard is like dried sand. Kids have been hitting golf balls off of it and all I see is a puff of dirt/sand

  13. Which of these years did we have temperatures closest to 90 degrees for the Boston Marathon?

    A. 2012
    B. 2010
    C. 2008
    D. 2006

    Answer later today.

        1. I’m not sure but it was hot . I believe that whole weekend was hot . I remember because my son was born that Friday and on marathon Monday I was home getting things ready for him

          1. Boston’s high was 86 that Monday (April 19). It was a warm weekend leading into it at Boston with highs 72 Saturday and 62 Sunday, but warmer in some interior areas.

They went on to reach 81 on April 22 and 30 as the back half of the month was fairly warm.

Ironically the month started quite chilly including some snow on April 5 (measurable in the suburbs).

  14. arod to answer your earlier query:
    I agree.

We have been in a blocking pattern for the last few days but it’s about to un-block. We do go back to progression but don’t be surprised if we do block up again at some point between next week and early May. It remains to be seen what side we’d end up on, but I do generally think the pattern shifts to the warmer side more often than the cooler side as well start moving through May, not just climate-normal-wise but weather-pattern-wise. 🙂

  15. Been on the cape this weekend, making new friends, finding connections, getting a whole new perspective of one of my favorite places in a whole new different way.

It was very windy, Cool and cloudy saturday. The waves though on many of the beaches that my class went to, were huge, pictures to come.
The class I took was ENVSCI field trip, It is bascially a class on the geology of cape cod, how it was made, how it is changing and how the sand move …

So here is a quiz question
What parts of the Cape are Building.
Why are Salt marshes shrinking and is it bad or good.
What is the Material on the cape called until you reach Province Lands. (province town area)
    What is the High Head?
What is the black Sand particles found on the beach called.
What is a Moraine…. (what is an example
Will answer these questions Tomorrow evening

    1. Cooler coast, same or slightly cooler than Sunday was inland areas.
75-80 is a dream forecast in this case, unless you’re in the CT Valley or Springfield. 😉
