DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 21-25)…
High pressure sinks to the south today and and cold front waits until late Friday night or early Saturday morning to pass, and this allows for 2 much warmer days. Most of the shower activity with the front will occur Friday night, leaving the day mainly rain-free and hinting at a Summer preview as humidity increases ahead of the front. The front itself may be slow to depart Saturday leaving some cloudiness around and a risk of a few showers as well, but it will end up generally dry and a little cooler as the day goes on. A small area of high pressure will bring mainly dry weather much of Sunday but an approaching warm front may bring some rain as early as Sunday night. Not sure yet if this front stays nearby or lifts to the north and allows it to warm up Monday. Jury’s out on this part of the forecast for now.
TODAY: Mostly sunny. Highs upper 50s South Coast ranging to lower 70s many interior areas. Wind SW increasing to 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.
TONIGHT: Partly to mostly cloudy. Lows in the upper 40s to middle 50s. Wind SW 5-15 MPH and gusty.
FRIDAY: Partly to mostly cloudy. Risk of a few showers and possibly a thunderstorm mainly interior MA and southern NH late in the day. Highs 60s South Coast, 70s elsewhere. Wind SW 10-20 MPH and gusty.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Scattered to numerous showers. Slight chance of thunderstorms. Lows in the 50s. Wind SW to W 5-15 MPH but gusty at times.
SATURDAY: Variably cloudy but more sun with time. Scattered to isolated showers. Highs around 60. Wind W to NW 10-20 MPH and gusty.
SUNDAY: Partly sunny. Lows in the 40s. Highs in the 50s.
MONDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of showers. Lows in the 40s. Highs in the 50s.
DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 26-30)…
Unsettled weather April 26-27. Fair weather returns April 28-30. Temperatures near to below normal.
DAYS 11-15 (MAY 1-5)…
A couple systems bring passing rain chances. Temperatures below to near normal.
Thanks TK
Thanks TK !
Yes, kind of interesting next week. Today’s 00z runs further north with everything. They must be struggling with the strength or maybe even lack there of, of a -NAO. If it’s not as negative, then we just might end up on the milder side of this boundary.
Cape was beautiful yesterday. Chilly, as expected …. Quite a cold wind off of Cape Cod Bay. Hoping we might get to 60F today with a wind off of Nantucket Sound.
Thanks TK. Great day on the way! Keeping my eye on the thunderstorm threat tomorrow afternoon. First real summer thunderstorm type threat of the year, albeit likely not a very impressive one.
since the snow has stopped, bring on the temperatures needed to warm things up and get it warm enough…. at least 60s
Thank you, TK. Another beautiful day in this nasty month of April π
Third birthday party on Sunday and first at new house. We appreciate your nice forecast. I do believe that you actually are getting credit for it….didn’t know you were so all powerful, did ya??
I started by forecasting a rainy day about a week ago. That ensured at least a decent day. π
Now this is an epic April storm (house on the left will soon be completely covered, and it won’t completely melt until late June):
http://www.kimmirutweather.com/
Wow – is it odd that I enjoy seeing these?
That was quite the storm they had yesterday. Wind was enormous!!
Would have been huge headlines down here. Up there, they probably took it in stride no sweat.
Good morning and thank you TK. WOW! What a beauty today is!!!
I love it!!
Holding my breath about next week. Let’s hope it is not too chilly. 50s we can take.
40s? well that’s another story. π
Thanks TK.
General Thunderstorm Outlook from SPC for tomorrow. Will see if this changes with 1:30pm update.

From NWS Taunton for tomorrow
THINGS BECOME BIT MORE INTERESTING FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND EARLY
EVENING…NORTHWEST OF THE BOSTON TO PROVIDENCE CORRIDOR WITH THE
HIGHEST RISK ACROSS WESTERN MA/NORTHERN CT. COLD POOL ALOFT WITH
WITH 500 MB TEMPS NEAR -16C COMBINED WITH DIURNAL HEATING WILL
LIKELY RESULT IN 500 TO 1000 J/KG OF CAPE. AT THE SAME TIME…A PRE-
FRONTAL TROUGH SHOULD RESULT IN SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS
DEVELOP BETWEEN MID AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING…NORTHWEST OF A
BOSTON TO PROVIDENCE LINE WITH THE MAIN FOCUS ACROSS WESTERN
MA/NORTHERN CT. CONSIDERING ONLY 500 TO 1000 J/KG OF CAPE…0 TO 6
KM SHEAR AROUND 30 KNOTS IS NOT TOO IMPRESSIVE BUT MIGHT BE ENOUGH
FOR SOME ORGANIZATION. SO WHILE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT WILL BE
LIMITED…A FEW STRONG TO MARGINALLY SEVERE STORMS WITH LOCALIZED
WIND/HAIL THREATS ARE A POSSIBILITY. LATEST SPC SREF IS
INDICATING SOME LOW PROBABILITIES ACROSS OUR INTERIOR ZONES…SO
CERTAINLY SOMETHING TO WATCH. MAIN TIME OF CONCERN IS BETWEEN 2
AND 10 PM ON FRIDAY.
24 hour calibrated thunderstorm chances
http://www.spc.noaa.gov/exper/sref/gifs/2016042109/SREF_PROB_TRW_CALIBRATED_24HR__f048.gif
btw, NW areas have a 5% of sever thunderstorms.
I think puts us in a thin strip of 50-60???
Sutton is in the 40-50% chance of thunderstorms.
There are a few pockets of 60% N&W/
Hard for me to tell the difference between the two shades of pink. Thanks JPD
From NWS out of Upton, NY. The more interesting weather maybe to our west.
A POTENT H5 TROF WILL BE THE DRIVING FORCE BEHIND THE
WX SYS. CURRENT TIMING IS FOR A LEADING MID LEVEL SHORTWAVE AND
PRE- FRONTAL TROUGH TO ARRIVE BY LATE DAY OR EARLY EVENING.
MLCAPE 500 J/KG AND PLENTY OF VERTICAL SHEAR…WITH WINDS VEERING
WITH HEIGHT FROM SW TO NW…COULD SUPPORT STRONG TO LOCALLY SEVERE
TSTMS IN THE AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING FROM NYC METRO
NORTH/WEST…IF WIND PROFILES ALOFT ARE AS STRONG AS IN THE NAM AS
OPPOSED TO THE WEAKER GFS.
Would not be surprised if some areas to west of SNE are put under a marginal risk with the new update at 1:30pm from SPC
12z NAM tomorrow

In my post above I forgot to thank you, TK, for your forecast.
What a beauty today. Yes, this is the kind of spring I love.
68 here – car said 71 in Uxbridge.
Fire dept was putting out a small brush fire by Rt 85 in Hopkinton right near the Water Farm.
A hyacinth carpet of sorts in a Belgian forest. Click on the play button in the Dutch news-site link below – it’s embedded in the article – and you’ll see a 25 second long video of a spring phenomenon.

Oh my how stunning. Thank you for sharing!
Police investigating a death at Prince’s estate in Minnesota. … It’s been announced that Prince died. 2016 has just seen too many iconic musicians go, most of the them way too young to leave this earth. Prince was a path breaker. Starting in the early 80s he was so far ahead of his time. Imitated by many, and mostly unsuccessfully. He will be missed. Rest in peace, Prince.
I was just going to post the same. You are right that it seems far too many music legends. Godspeed, Prince. 57 is far too soon.
I remember his performance in Miami at the Super Bowl in 2007. That was a great Super Bowl halftime show.
It was indeed.
It’s raining purple somewhere on this earth today.
From a write-up at the time of Prince’s inauguration into the Hall:
“He rewrote the rulebook, forging a synthesis of black funk and white rock that served as a blueprint for cutting-edge music in the Eighties” … “Prince made dance music that rocked and rock music that had a bristling, funky backbone. From the beginning, Prince and his music were androgynous, sly, sexy and provocative.”
We have been losing a lot of celebrities lately.
We sure have Philip and it seems most in the music world.
I love Joshua’s sentiment ….”Itβs raining purple somewhere on this earth today”
Beautiful indeed, Joshua.
Thank you tk π
Most everything is bloomed.
Just seeing some blooming here. I suspect Framingham is ahead as I could see forshythia starting when we moved a month ago. Some signs of dogwood and weeping willow. Majority of trees in our neighborhood have nothing. We were worrying that they had a problem but noticed others are the same.
Forsynthia’s bloomed a month ago here. There not even yellow anymore
There green leaves
Charlie perhaps it would help if you clarified that in your area alone, things have bloomed. In a very many locations they are barely begun.
Again – only a small portion of fosythia in this area are yellow….absolutely no green. Daughter’s yard in Uxbridge is lined with them and there is no yellow to be seen.
Blanket statements are really hard to justify, Charlie.
What Charlie??. Tress no.What are talking about
What’s the up roar? Ok most everything has bloomed. And the sky is blue. Ik you’ll probably say no!!! It’s light blue π
Because Charlie you do it again and again. You mislead people. I live in Mansfield. You live in N.A. There are no trees blooming. Forsythia- yes. Everything is not blooming.
Again I’d say more than half of the trees are blooming. Dogwoods willows etc have been bloomed for sometime now. Most ornamental trees are just past peak flowering stage.
Again…id say. IN YOUR AREA ONLY. And you just went from all to half. It is an easy concept.
Hope Valley is in the middle of blooming and it is far south of you.
I am sorry I took the bait and apologize to others for doing so. I’m working on that π
Trees
You are in the landscaping business. You should know better to make a statement like that….
What a beautiful day. 75.6 here! Yummy
On a sad note, I can’t get over the death of Prince.
He was an amazing performer.
I, too, Lover Joshua’s statement about it raining Purple somewhere today.
Purple Rain was a truly awesome movie and Prince gave an outstanding
performance. I loved it. I could watch it over and over again and the ending is
spectacular!
Agree, JP
There is a nice tribute to him on CNN with the caption When Doves Cry
Doesn’t matter what’s bloomed or not, today is a top notch day in April as far as I’m concerned .
We reached 76.4 degrees. Currently 74.3
18z NAM showing CAPE values between 500 -750 tomorrow for parts of SNE.
Not impressive values but certainly enough for thunderstorm development

My forsythia were starting to bloom right before the snow a few weeks ago. Whatever had bloomed died right away and now the bushes seem to be stuck in a state of flux. No more blooms but still plenty of healthy buds. Some trees starting to bud as well but only about 25% in in the Walpole/Sharon/Foxboro area.
Forsythia bloom failed around here too. Trees are just starting to get that light green shade to them but none of them are close to fully leafed out yet up this way.
I was in Milford on Saturday and things were no more bloomed down there than up here. After today and tomorrow, however, we’ll see a quick move forward in the process.
As I moves through Milford and into Hopkinton I saw start of dogwoods. Some in blackstones area also but just a start
I’ve never seen forsythia fail because of snow. I have tons of photos of them covered by snow….one Pete put on 7 years ago. But I bet that’s what happened to my daughters….one top branch of a massive border of them has a few yellow flowers
As far as I know there are no forsythia in this neighborhood and I have no idea what stage they are in framingham
It may have just been a bad year for whatever reason. I’ll see if I can find out. I know there were other years when I noticed this too growing up, as we had no less than 3 of them in our yard (only 2 now).
Framingham…We had about six on west side of house (they all grew together so not sure of number). There was one established one on south side and three babies mac planted from shoots. In 37 years never had them not bloom. BUT and this could be reason. Younger ones were on south side so sun protected. West side were so thick they could have protected each other.
I was just thinking about all the celebrities and especially musicians that have left us so far in 2016. Every year obviously we lose some, but when you have a string of them so close together it is that much more noticed, and with social media being our first source of information much of the time, it’s just right there in front of you.
Not long from now we’ll be hearing of the passing of Glen Campbell, not because I’m trying to be morbid in predicting another death, but as you know by now, he’s suffers from Alzheimer’s Disease, which is sadly only temporarily treatable but inevitably fatal. As of mid March, it was reported that he is in the final stage (7) of the disease. While we do not know exactly how long he has left, what is known is that his 80th birthday is tomorrow (April 22).
80 seems so young to be in final stage. Very sad.
He had been showing symptoms of the disease for several years before his diagnosis. He had onset a little earlier than the average.
My grandfather had Alzheimer’s but technically died of pneumonia. He was 86 but less than two months shy of his 87th birthday. I seem to remember hearing that Alzheimer’s and pneumonia “go together” but I may very well be wrong. Maybe for some but not everyone?
I took this photo on Saturday (4-16) in Milford MA in an old cemetery. The evergreens were, as expected, green. The other trees, still buds, no leaves yet.

They’ll be out soon, but they were not quite ready yet.
Tk I sent an email of everything bloomed. That picture I sent was taken 15 min ago. See if you can post it. It was taken in Dedham. Thank you!!
It won’t let me post it here, but what you sent looks reasonable for that area. Some of the smaller bushes have their leaves. Most of the main trees are just starting. There are always some trees that leaf out earlier and some that leaf out later. That depends on the type of tree. Ironically, on my FB memories today up came a picture from 4 years ago today of the bleeding hearts in my back yard, fully in bloom 4 years ago, but this year they have barely started to sprout. That’s about a week late.
I enjoy bleeding hearts. They were one of plants I did lose to a frost several years ago. We had one in the garden we planted when we lost Daughters pony
Around here the forsythia are pitiful. About 2 weeks ago, they were yellow tinged as could be. Almost ready to pop, and a few did a little. Then we hit 15 degrees for 2 nights and that was the end of that. I think they were so close then got hit with cold that they won’t do much this year. They will leaf out, but the yellow will be muted.
Perrenials are up, but nowhere near bloomed yet. Sedum, day lillies, cats mint, David garden phlox are up but no blooms. Roses are just starting to leaf a little, us I have them all a haircut down to the ground last month. Hydrangeas are just starting to leaf a little.
Maples are just starting to open a bit, not much though. My plum tree is leafed with tiny leaflets, but not bloomed yet. Oak trees still look like mid winter, but they won’t even start to come out for another 2 weeks.
Pretty much same here Blackstone. I do wish I knew what smaller trees are in our yard. Phlox are out and were a pleasant surprise. But still not entirely full. And they get all day sun. Most of yard does.
Forgot to add my garden phlox are about 1/4 bloomed but they are right on schedule. I’ll have them in full bloom in another week and they’ll last until the middle of May.
Fwiw, I hate forsythia, my opinion only. They bloom for about a week to 10 days then turn green and look like an over grown weed.
Agree re forsythia. The ones we had in framingham formed a great barrier between our yard and others though so were ok
TK, I did not know about Glen Campbell. If he passes, yet another legend will be missed.
Someone mentioned the association between Alzheimer’s and pneumonia. There is indeed a correlation. As Alzheimer’s progresses, the immune system weakens allowing opportunistic infections to occur, such as pneumonia. Referred to as “old man’s friend” (I dislike this phrase, but am using it to denote how it’s been referred to in the literature) pneumonia is very often the ultimate cause of death in Alzheimer’s patients (my Dad, for example). But, it is also a cause of death in many older people with other underlying diseases, as well as cancer patients, and AIDS sufferers. In regard to the latter, there’s speculation that Prince was battling AIDS. This has not been confirmed. Nevertheless, the pattern that has emerged regarding Prince’s decline in recent months – frailty, weight loss, and inability to overcome the flu at a fairly young age – does raise questions.
Governor Baker continues to impress. He had Zachim bridge lit in purple tonight.
Saw that. π

A tribute to Prince, a song appropriately titled “Sometimes It Snows In April”. It’s a live performance from 2010 in Norway. My apologies for the poor quality. Goosebumps when the crowd sings.
Thank you TK. Yes goosebumps and chills. You just want to close your eyes and let it all sink in
New post!
