  1. A painful week ahead in terms of rainfall and normal to below normal temps for the next 7 days. Real warmth to follow however. Enjoy the day everyone!

    1. Even more so in that the rain won’t really be all that beneficial for water supply, although it will limit brush fire risk.

  2. Interesting change in the GFS on the 06z run. 12z wanted to put another omega block over us around the 10th and spoiling the better weather. On the 06z, it’s gone. Euro 0z, and both ensemble means in some agreement with no block and better weather. Be interesting to see what the 12z runs show.

    1. GFS wants to put down some real summertime warm on us on 5/12 through at least 5/16. Its pretty steep jump so it’ll be interesting to see if it verifies.

        1. Ha!
So what you gonna do when you have a real job and only get 2 weeks vacation every year and work through everything? No more Summer’s off 🙂

          1. Womder if no AC in classrooms.

However, IMHO a “real job” is tons easier than school.

              1. Hehe. I just remembered you said you were in school for a lot of years….or am I wrong and apologize if so. As is case with some others here, I detested school. It was an effort that took up too much time on stuff I wasn’t always interested in. Once in the working world, I could focus on what I loved which was never an effort…..just a fulfillment. And I had my nights free….not always as I was an overachiever…but tons more free time than school allowed. Although again, hard to quantify as free also has different meanings. And absolutely an opinion.

  3. I’m not going to get my hopes up yet. Gfs tends to rush that kind of thing. But, that model has shown that look earlier, so maybe that was the rush and this pans out. I can only see the euro out to May 10, but there seems to be some consensus there. As I said above, the 0z gfs looks much different than the 06z. It’s all 10 days plus out. Kinda like seeing a snow storm at 240 hrs and expecting it to verify.
All that said, I’m ready for some better weather. Hopefully in another 10 days or so.

  4. I forgot to wish everyone a happy May Day

So far I’ve spent the morning trying to open the back of the remote sensor on my new weather station. SIL will bring home a variety of screw drivers tomorrow. It should not be this hard 🙁

  5. I remember a heat wave 15 years ago May 1st, 2nd 3rd of 2001 my junior year of high school. I went to a catholic high school and it was uncomfortable in there no AC and wearing a shirt and tie when I was outside the building I felt the clothes stick to me.
Was so happy to get home and change those days.

    Answers later today.

    1. Not a wash-out. Mostly patchy drizzle and scattered showers. HOWEVER there may be a batch of moderate to heavy showers briefly at some point as an energy spike comes across.

  7. Surprising to me, but I’ve seen several reports of sleet mixing in with the rain in SNE today.

    1. It’s very cold aloft, but any pellets would take place under those heavier echoes.

      1. We had some little bouncy ice pellets here in Quincy a few minutes ago. Hail? It’s too warm for sleet.

        1. It was sleet. Very cold layer a few thousand feet up, and not enough time for it to melt before reaching the surface.

So, some places will record frozen (trace) for May. 🙂

  8. May have missed this but what are the chances the Sox and Yankeess get their game in tonight?

  9. I’ve had a whopping o.oo” on my rain gauge today. Just a trace that wet the street.

    1. Yep…this isn’t helping at all. I saw more rain drop spots on the pavement. Son feeding lawn so hoping to get something beneficial. Not to mention that we truly need it.

    2. I was pretty sure this was not going to be very productive for most of the area, nor will be much of what’s coming during the week.

        1. I think there will be periods of time it can be. Don’t expect dry ground, but it may not be raining all that much of the time.

  10. Was up in Lowell today.

Happened to ride by Pawtucket Falls, which normally in the spring has a lot of water flowing over the falls.

Not so this year. A bit of water here and there sneaking through, but otherwise a pretty low Merrimack River for spring.

      1. Oh, I certainly remember that very, very well !

I’d drive 113 ? all the way to 93N, paralleling the Merrimack and the flooding down there was crazy.

It was good to see the old river today. 🙂

    B. 72 degrees
    C. 77 degrees
    D. 82 degrees

    The answer is B.

    1. Got them all wrong but answered first laughing because Steve Martin was the crazy weatherman.

  12. Well, it seems in the last 24 hrs, the models have backed off of a deep Thursday system and hint at a cutoff low slowly sinking away to the south and east late in the week.

Who knows if this trend will continue ?

If it did, perhaps it allows for temps to moderate just a bit later in the week.

    1. I saw that too. Hopefully it pans out. I’m still looking at that day 11-15 that shows some better weather. It’s still there 🙂

  13. Charlie…nice to see you have reverted to yourself. When you share an opinion that is fine…..when you say PUHLEEZE or however you spelled it….not fine. And LOL is also NOT FINE. And that must be why you are Charlie again.

  14. Vicki, on the work thing. I guess my perspective is from someone who works for a global company. I report to a VP, and I manage multiple people, manage a fairly big budget, and run a department. I also deal with the west coast, and across a 12 hour time zone. So college and grad school was great comparatively. Nice thing is at this point is I have 5 weeks vacation since I’ve been there 16 years.

    1. I understand and know everyone feels differently. And I completely respect that. I worked my way from secretary to an offer of VP in a world that didn’t much accept women. I opted to work from home (offer of VP was to keep my in house) when my first was born. I then did full time work and full time parenting. Then I started my own company which now juggles nationwide clients. I’d take all that in a heartbeat before returning to school. I could have retired full last year but love what I do too much.

It is literally all a matter of preference.

        1. I suspect in some way it has to do with that though. You enjoyed school which I admire. I didn’t. I am blessed to have always be able to do what I love which is one reason I enjoy the real world.

  15. Vicki cmon!!! It’s just my opinion. It’s funny how you say revert to your old self… It ok….. After 8 yrs of college I disagree completely!!! Again just my opinion!!!! The is in just the modern day working world.

    1. Just remember don’t ever judge someone’s education on text, it’s just a word of advice. 🙂

      1. wss that supposed to make any sense.

Or were you simply giving yourself a piece of advice

    2. She’s right. The comments are very close to the ones I highlighted. You may not want to go there. I won’t be as nice next time.

You can have an opinion that is the same or different than anyone, but it’s how you word your comments that you need to be mindful of.

  16. Spring in extra slow motion. That’s the theme this year. Usually from week to week as I take my walks around the city I see significant changes in springtime. Not this year. The leaves are coming out, but it’s almost as if they’re worried that if they really show themselves, they’ll be punished by mother nature. Flowering trees have essentially stood still (freeze frame of sorts), which is kind of nice. Usually by now you’d see lots of blossoms on the ground by now. The vegetation that grows along the banks of the Charles – eg, reeds, tall grass, and other plants – is almost in the same state it was at the end of March.

I realize that what I’m observing is probably not what you folks from the interior are seeing (eg, Alisonrod, TK, Vicki), or people to our south (eg, Charlie, Sue, Tom). I believe that this year Boston is especially slow in its transition.

    1. Joshua I meant to post yesterday. A while back it was mentioned by a few..TK and blackstone but I think more…that the forsythia had stopped flowing and probably would just go go green. That is EXACTLY what happened here. I don’t know about framingham where I never saw that happen but it has me dumb struck here. So we are seeing the same…perhaps, though, to a lesser degree.

      1. Indeed, it’s probably due to a combination of that unusually warm December during which many trees and bushes flowered and this prolonged period of wintry weather in early April followed by cooler than normal. I have seen some toddler ducklings swimming around. I guess the parents wanted to ensure that their kids were out of the `house’ by summer, so they started a family early this year.

  17. My gripe for the evening: David Price. Yet another stinker from our $1 million per start man. I’m a little tired of hearing from the experts that Price is a sure thing, an ace, one of the best in the business. He’s never been great. He’s always been a good pitcher, and at times a very good pitcher. He’s never been a clutch performer in big games. In fact, the opposite is true. Sox have fantastic offense, and excellent starting pitching from Porcello and Wright, but question marks remain my concern moving forward, especially when this team faces real competition.
