Monday Forecast

7:21AM

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 2-6)…
A string of low pressure areas moving along a boundary to the south of New England provides frequently unsettled weather through midweek, then a large upper low parks itself on the East Coast of the US later in the week, continuing the trend.
TODAY: Overcast. Periods of drizzle and areas of fog. Showers likely midday into afternoon, greatest chance northern MA and southern NH. Highs in the 50s. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.
TONIGHT: Cloudy. Patchy drizzle and fog. Isolated showers. Lows in the 40s. Wind light NE.
TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers. Highs in the middle 50s to lower 60s, mildest well away from the coast. Wind light E.
WEDNESDAY: Cloudy. Periods of rain. Lows in the middle 40s to lower 50s. Highs in the middle 50s to lower 60s, coolest coastal areas.
THURSDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers. Lows in the upper 40s to lower 50s. Highs in the upper 50s to lower 60s, coolest coastal areas.
FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy to partly sunny. Chance of showers. Lows in the upper 40s to lower 50s. Highs in the upper 50s to middle 60s, coolest coastal areas.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 7-11)…
Upper low still in control but may drift far enough to the southeast to lose some of its grip, allowing for at least partial sun and less of a shower risk over the weekend of May 7-8. Not 100% confident of this so check updates. Fair weather more dominant May 9-11 and temperatures a little closer to averages for this time of year.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 12-16)…
Overall trend is for the atmosphere to be less blocked but more progressive again but still no sustained warm weather in this area through mid month. A few episodes of showers possible but not likely any big rain producers.

  1. Thank you, TK. A shame this drizzle isn’t all out rain.

    Quite foggy here this am.

  2. Good morning, I think.
    Dreary Day, Dreary Forecast.

The weather around here absolutely BLOWS in the Spring. Disgusting! Puke weather!!

  3. Maybe it’s just wishful remembrances, but I swear when I was a kid we had a spring that lasted more than 10 days before summer started. This weather stinks.

  4. LOVE this pattern. This is true Spring in eastern New England folks. 🙂

    1. This pattern blows chunks and you can have it. We’ll make a TK hole in Woburn and you can have it every day of the week while the rest of us enjoy beautiful weather.

  5. Normally I agree with you TK, but this patters is terrible imo… Ready for some warmth and sun in May 🙂

    1. I agree with TK on one aspect, I remember a crap load of Springs being
just like this as well. I also disagree about loving this pattern. It truly SUCKS!!!!!!! I want some NICE WEATHER!!! I demand it and I want it NOW!!!!

      1. I remember a lot of springs like this too. Last May was nice and warm, but an exception.
And I agree with Dave and Hadi, this stuff blows chunks. Not enough rain to do any good, cool, miserable temps. If its going to wet, at least rain and be in the 60’s.
All that said, rather it block up and cut off now than in June. But our luck we will get that too. It’s a long way off, but I’m starting to get a not so good feeling about summer pattern. I know, I know, its too early to worry about that. But it starting to become ever so slightly worrisome.

  6. While I do not like this weather, we’ve been blessed with very few cut-off lows in recent years. I can recall several really awful ones in May of 2004 and 2005, and also really long duration double-parked low’s in May of 1998 and I believe 1999, too.

As I mentioned before the confidence level is high that we get out of the 40s and 50s by July 4th. So, we just need to be patient. Just two more months of this and we’ll be all set … for McLean’s.

    1. Are you referring to the psychiatric hospital of that name?
I think you are and I agree!

  7. I think it is repetitive to say that I agree with TK, love the pattern just as I love every pattern, think of this as spring weather in New England and that we just went through a stretch of lovely spring weather …..however, since it is repetitive, I won’t say it 🙂

      1. Interesting. I would not mind weather no matter where I live….operative word is live :). However, I love New England and for many reasons. Weather is one of them

My characters are not showing up so I have no idea what this will look loke

    1. We can and will repeat our positive thoughts about it just aseems those of the opposite view repeat theirs.

Oh no! We’re turning into the weather version of politicians! 😛

  8. Just had some very heavy rain, thunder and lightning in Manchester CT. Has let up now. Was not expecting this today.

    1. All the short range guidance had it but it may be a touch further south than modeled.

      1. Thx, I didn’t look at any short range guidance yesterday. I knew there was a spike of energy moving through, but the thunder and lightning caught me off guard.

  9. Looks like a little bow echo or squall has formed and about to enter western Rhode Island.

  10. Vicki, an interesting anecdote from your new town of Sutton, courtesy of Wikipedia:

Three families were the first to settle on the land [Sutton], that of Benjamin Marsh, Elisha Johnson and Nathaniel Johnson. Brothers Samuel and Daniel Carriel also occupied the Marsh family cabin. The “big snow” of 1717 completely buried their cabins. A friendly Indian found the cabin of the Johnson family only by seeing smoke from the chimney coming out of the snow. The Indian rescued the family, and as Mrs. Johnson recalled, “No voice ever sounded so sweet as that of that Indian down the chimney.”

    1. That is very cool. My son got me a book of suttons history since, as I suspect you know, I am fascinated by history, especially that of the town I’m living in. I had not read this but just showed to my daughter and copied and sent to my other kids. Thank you.

  11. I’m happy to report my weather station is up and running and seems to be accurate. I just have to secure sensor and rains gauge and didn’t think standing out in thunder was a good time

      1. I started to head out with my hammer in hand and thought to myself…..”What would Tom do.” So back inside I went 🙂

  12. TK, when will the heavy rains be out of the Cambridge area? Can you offer a sense of what it might look like around 5 PM? (Of course you can!)

    1. I think after this disturbance passes, there may be some sinking air just behind it to keep things fairly rain free in eastern New England later this afternoon. Perhaps some drizzle, mist and fog may linger.

    2. I’m sorry. I was away from the blog for a few hours. I hope you got the info you needed!

    1. Good – that makes my new station pretty much on target. I have 50.7 and .25 since noon when it actually rained as opposed to drizzle. Thanks BlackstoneWX!!

      1. Can you tell us how to find your station on wunder or do you prefer not to on an open blog?

  13. ECMWF & GFS are in fairly good agreement today. That’s a good sign.

So when people look at their weather apps and see 8 days of rain, they will get bummed out or angry, etc. But it’s not going to rain for 8 straight days. And part of the weekend may end up quite nice.

    1. Haven’t a clue. I rarely and I mean rarely wacth the Weather Channel.
I did watch some when they first came on the air. I recognize the guy on the left, but haven’t a clue what his name is. The guy on the right could be from Mars
      for all I know. 😀

    2. Bruce Edwards on the left, Andre Bernier on the right.
Two of my favorites from the early days.

      1. I used to watch the TWC all the time from the mid 80’s to mid 90’s. Barely watch at all now.

Bruce Edwards and Andre Bernier are ironically both from Cleveland and left the TWC to go back and work for local stations there. Bruce is now retired. Andre is still at Fox 8 in Cleveland today. He was only 23 in the above photo on the TWC’s first day!

  14. That is one clean looking radar….barely enough rain to add much to the bird bath

And speaking of bird bath, I’m glad you asked. We have a resident turkey…Tom, I named him Bob…..who visits the feeder morning and night. I suspect mrs Bob is nesting. And I had a bluebird. Never had one in framingham. They are lovely little creatures.

          1. Hahaha…now that is more than funny. I’ll see how that works with grandkids…my kids won’t be the least surprised if it comes out of my mouth

          2. Seriously, I see a ton of people fishing. If you want to make this a home base and fish this area, just let me know

            1. I haven’t had a chance and when I do, it requires me to be closer, else I don’t have enough time to fish, but I sicerely appreciate the offer. About 20 miles is my limit.

                1. Good grief it says we are 52 miles from JP. That can’t be right. You’d have to Bring Mrs OS 🙂

  15. I was reading some of the comments on a live video earlier. I’m convinced the population in general is busted. 😛

It was beautiful Saturday, then the weather turned unsettled Sunday and continued today, and they’re all going nuts about how long it’s been raining…during a typical Spring pattern.

After all of these years, people still somehow have it in their head that Spring in this part of the country is consistently sunny and warm. Well, it’s not. I’d get out my violin and play it in sympathy….but I’m actually a drummer. 😛
