Monday Forecast

1:55AM

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 9-13)…
Yes, the pattern is still in blocking-mode the next few days, but we’ve managed to get back to the fair weather side of the block, as we were in April. Other than a disturbance aloft passing by today and causing some clouds and a few isolated showers that should be mostly north of the forecast area, high pressure will generally be in control with fair weather through the middle of the week. I’m going to lean to the optimistic side and forecast the fair weather including a warming trend through Thursday. By Friday, an approaching front from the west should at least bring cloudiness and probably a shower threat.
TODAY: Sunshine with intervals of clouds. A slight chance of an isolated shower mainly in southern NH but possibly in northern MA. Highs upper 50s to middle 60s. Wind W 5-15 MPH, gusting above 20 MPH often.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy to mostly clear. Lows middle 30s to lower 40s. Wind W 5-15 MPH, gusting above 20 MPH at times.
TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs middle 60s to lower 70s. Wind W 5-15 MPH with a few higher gusts.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows middle 40s to lower 50s. Highs middle 60s to lower 70s.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows upper 40s to middle 50s. Highs upper 60s to middle 70s.
FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers. Lows in the 50s. Highs middle 60s to lower 70s.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 14-18)…
A broad trough will traverse the northeastern USA during this period and will bring several disturbances and a couple fronts through the region. The weekend of May 14-15 will likely feature a few episodes of showers but there will likely be periods of fair weather as well with a slight cool-down overall. Another round of showers or rain may occur early next week, favoring May 17, as a cool-down continues.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 19-23)…
More progression is indicated in the pattern with an overall warmer trend but still a few episodes of passing showers as air masses change a couple times. Timing of systems is difficult this far in advance.

  1. Thanks TK. Much better week ahead. Here to the hope that Saturday turns out a little decent at times.

  2. Good morning and thank you TK.

Many more clouds this morning than I expected. Let’s see if they break.

    1. And then they were gone! In less than an hour it has gone from completely overcast to completely clear. Awesome!

      1. Check the satellite pic. You’ll see there may be a few more bands to come through the area. Even a few sprinkles up in northeastern MA and southern NH right now.

  3. Thank you, TK. Snow 39 years ago today….and yesterday. 77 right? I do tend to be off by a year on that one

    1. This time you’re off by a day. May 9-10. But you have the correct year. πŸ™‚

  4. Mercury passes the sun today (began this am) – I believe NASA is having coverage for those without protection for eyes.

  5. So far, quite a beautiful day. It’s about time!!

On a sports note: Is Big Pappy on the juice???
40 years old and 9 home runs already this season with BA of 308 and 27 RBI.

Not too shabby for an old man, eh? πŸ˜€

  6. Mostly cloudy in Reading. Wet ground from a moderate burst of rain around dawn.

    1. Thanks for sharing Joshua. Interesting that we were under the “bad” side of an omega block back then just like all of last week. Boston received 0.5″ officially still the most ever for May.

    1. I am so thankful that in general it does not bother me at all.

I used to be bothered in August only by ragweed, but that has passed now.

Tree and grass pollen luckily are harmless to me. πŸ˜€

  7. Here is something I like:

    Conditions at 44013 as of
    (10:50 am EDT)
    1450 GMT on 05/09/2016:

Station 44013 (LLNR 420) – BOSTON 16 NM East of Boston, MA Image indicating link to RSS feed of recent meteorological observations for station 44013
Boston Approach Lighted Buoy BF NOAA 44013

    Water Temperature (WTMP): 48.2 Β°F

    1. I think the water temp will hit or surpass 50F on Thursday, perhaps even Wednesday.

Mild temps, decent sunshine and light winds. …. Maybe take a run at 51F or 52F even.

      1. You “may” be a tad optimistic. If you are to be correct, then
there will be some sea breezes along the coast. If so, then will
we keep those temperatures? OR will they fall off 2-4 degrees upon the first land breeze?

  8. Boston, Logan 57 at 11AM. A bit on the nippy side still.
I’m sure the sun will do some work on that and as long as it stays out, it
should reach the low to middle 60s I would think.

  9. Thoughts …..

Per visible satellite, most of Manitoba is covered in smoke from the western Canada fires. I wonder if some of that may work our way Wednesday or Thursday to make for hazy skies and red sunsets ???

Negative SST anomalies are now present in patches in the equatorial Pacific. Looking back, the first tropical system in the eastern Pacific formed May 28th last year. Lets see if that happens a bit later this year and see if their season starts off less intense.

Today is August 2nd equivalent daylight. Don’t let the coolness of the air fool you into a major sunburn. Anyone outside in the sun for appreciable time should be considering sunscreen.

  10. Finally,, it’s 67 degrees and mostly sunny, this would be a ok day for Nashville Tennessee in March. πŸ™‚

  11. Answers to yesterday’s quizzes.

    1) A vertical column of light within a few minutes above a rising or setting sun is called

    A. Sun Pillar
    B. Sun Dog
    C. Sun Shaft
    D. Solar Halo

    The correct answer is A.

    2. Mother’s Day 2006 featured…
    A. Severe Flooding
    B. Total Solar Eclipse
    C. The latest snowfall ever
    D. A moderate earthquake

    The answer is A.

  12. This mid and late afternoon were awesome !!!

Loved the sun and the 60s combined with everything turning green.

    1. I was on deck…because I have nothing better to do with my life πŸ˜‰ ….from 5:00 on…cooked steak on grill…a glass or maybe two of wine….enjoyed a visit from Bob the turkey and thought about how beautiful this world is

  13. Honestly I wish everyday was sunny 75-80 degrees except once per week, a thundershower would deliver 1 inch per week over a 3 hour period and then sun came back out. All would be beautiful. πŸ™‚

    1. I don’t need all the other “crap” weather, or excitement. My life is exciting enough without weather. πŸ™‚

      1. Perhaps it is time to re-locate. No one is forcing you to endure this horrendous New England weather.

        1. Nope,, staying for now, so I complain, like many. “very well established in New Englanders, but they never want to hear it, but know it. πŸ™‚

I’m not being rude sue, it’s just very true

          1. Why are you back to having to explain that you’re not being rude? You’re slippin’ back to old habits VERY fast. Might want to rethink that right now.

          2. Out of curiosity…do you think complaining makes the weather better? Do you think it helps you? Does it make you feel better to bring others into the misery?

I’m trying to figure what the benefit is of complaining.

          3. Charlie… Go away….Far, far away. That way you won’t have to deal with New England weather and we won’t have to deal with you πŸ˜€

  14. Upper 50s coast to upper 60s interior Tuesday. Lots of sun, some high clouds southern sky.
60s to near 70 Wednesday but may drop through 50s coast with sea breeze. Much sun.
Upper 60s to middle 70s Thursday except cooler South Coast. Much sun.
60s everywhere Friday except some upper 50s South Coast. Clouds roll in, risk of showers.
Most showers Friday night. Saturday turns out partly cloudy and fairly warm.
More showers Saturday night. Sunday turns out partly sunny and cooler..

NOT BAD this weekend if things time out the way I think they may.
