Wednesday Forecast

7:27AM

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 11-15)…
High pressure controls today and tomorrow. A broad low pressure trough will pass through from west to east Friday through Sunday, but it appears that rainfall will be limited to 2 frontal passages, the first last Friday and Friday night, and the second Saturday night through the early hours of Sunday. This will leave much of the weekend rain-free.
TODAY: Mostly sunny. Highs middle 60s to lower 70s but may cool to the 50s eastern coastal areas. Wind light N with coastal sea breezes developing.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows in the middle 40s to lower 50s. Wind light E shifting to S.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs upper 60s to middle 70s interior, upper 50s to middle 60s coast but may cool back in the afternoon there. Wind light S with coastal sea breezes developing.
FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers especially late day and night. Lows in the 50s. Highs middle 60s to lower 70s.
SATURDAY: Variably cloudy. Shower threat returns at night. Lows in the 50s. Highs middle 60s to lower 70s.
SUNDAY: Partly sunny and windy. Lows middle 40s to lower 50s. Highs upper 50s to middle 60s.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 16-20)…
Fair May 16. Uncertain timing but rain risk somewhere in the May 17-19 period. Fair weather May 20. Temperatures start the period near to below normal and end it near to above normal.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 21-25)…
Fair May 21-22. Shower risk mid to late period. Temperatures near to above normal.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK.

    Another beauty starting out.

59 at my house by 8AM. Nice

  2. Boston Buoy starting off the day with:

    Water Temperature (WTMP): 48.7 °F

So it drop 3+ degrees overnight, which is pretty much what we fully expected.

With sea breezes today, let’s see how much it warms up.

  3. Thanks Tk: two questions need to wrap up a side job this weekend so I’m looking for dry hrs between Friday night 5-8 and Saturday AM/ PM 6-2pm.thank you.

    1. Friday evening is more likely to be wet than dry unless timing of front #1 is slower than expected.

Saturday should be rain free most of the day.

    1. We need the totals for 4 cities then we can check each. I won’t be at my desk much today but I’m sure the team can accomplish this. 🙂

        1. I was just searching for the totals for the cities and haven’t found anything yet. I didn’t think it would be so difficult.

  4. Boston, Logan was 61 as of 8AM, however, the wind was West at 4.6 mph.
Unless that land breeze picks up, Logan will switch to a sea breeze rather quickly.
Could even be by the 9Am obs. IF the land breeze picks up, could delay sea breeze
for a while. We’ll know soon enough. 😀

    1. Interesting, the wind picked up for the 9AM obs:

      Weather: Fair
      Temperature: 63.0 °F (17.2 °C)

      Dewpoint: 34.0 °F (1.1 °C)
      Relative Humidity: 34 %
Wind: West at 9.2 MPH (8 KT)
      Wind Chill: 62 F (17 C)
      Visibility: 10.00 miles
      MSL Pressure: 1021.5 mb
      Altimeter: 30.17 in Hg

      1. The sea breeze will be delayed, at least for a while. How long?
Who knows, it could still switch at anytime.

  5. Glorious spring weather. With the exception of last week, this has been one of my favorite springs of all time. No heat. No humidity. Lots of sun (except last week). Not much volatility. I may turn into Charlie soon and by late December be pining for spring.

Headed to Minnesota tomorrow. Cooler weather there. Mostly low to mid-50s daytime, and mid 30s at night. Sort of like what we had in Boston a few weeks ago. I’m okay with it. If I can avoid heat and humidity, but have ample sunshine I’m fine.

Hope all members of the WHW gang are well. I don’t check in as often in spring and summer, but I will periodically.

    1. Safe travels, Joshua. My sister in law has been flying the Minnesota route lately and she said it is cool there. Since she is from Atlanta, she seems to appreciate occasional cool

I agree re this spring. It has been lovely.

And, Joshua, you will never be Charlie.

      Just a joke, Charlie 🙂

  6. Boston, Logan as of 10AM

    Weather: Fair
    Temperature: 67.0 °F (19.4 °C)
    Dewpoint: 32.0 °F (0.0 °C)
    Relative Humidity: 27 %
Wind: from the Northwest at 11.5 gusting to 16.1 MPH (10 gusting to 14 KT)
    Visibility: 10.00 miles
    MSL Pressure: 1021.2 mb
    Altimeter: 30.16 in Hg

That kind of wind does NOT promote a sea breeze. It would have to lighten up considerably or switch direction.

AND I am not complaining! 67 at 10AM. WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!

      1. Went as of 11AM obs. Dropped to 63 already

    1. 4 Degree rise in 4 hours. Pretty amazing.

BUT, we know it is just a shallow surface layer that has been heated by
the sun. It’s going to take some time to warm it up for real.

  7. Thanks TK. Beautiful stretch of weather! Looks like the Canadian chill is going to drop pretty hard on us Sunday/Monday.

  8. Its one run, but the GFS looks warm and maybe humid in some warm sectors mid and long range.

    1. I think I see projections of 850 mb temps btwn 12 and 15C into southern New England around May 19th, the 21st and the 24th through the 25th.

      1. I noticed that too. Hope it holds. That would be right around Tk’s projected May 20th flip.

  9. Boston Buoy at 54 Degrees.
    Stellwagen at 49.8

Logan 62 with East wind at 1PM,
Back just a few miles it is 70 or above. 😀

        1. Since 1936. Before that all readings were taken at Boston Common which was much more representative of the city itself IMHO.

        2. All of them (with very few exceptions) are at airports, so that’s how it’s determined.

One could make a similar case for Worcester, where the airport is above the rest of the city, yet is the “official record” for the city.

            1. They’ve just always been at airports, because that’s where weather data is most needed in real time. And of course with the government operating under certain budget constraints, they just put it “all in once place”. Of course it started with paid human observers, but has all gone automated with human supplementation in some locations. It’s quite complex. I don’t see it changing anytime soon. I think the way Logan is, people know it’s not representative of the city itself and can make that adjustment. Not that I agree with the set-up, but it’s not going to change for a long time.

** WHW account down for a few, as you may have noticed **

                1. It is and will be for a while. It’s just certain things that need to be performed on a regular basis.

  10. SO FAR I have seen nothing to make me think anything differently about the upcoming pattern.

It will be interesting to do some various case studies with the “new and improved” (again) GFS versus other models. This first run doesn’t look too bad.

    1. That looks like a warm and dry pattern with occasional disturbances/cold frontal passages coming over the top of the ridge.

I think if this pattern maintains long enough, some real hot air masses can build in the northern plains and sometimes a part of that will break off and move east into New England, like back in July 2011, perhaps the 23rd I think. Logan hit 103F ?

  11. Reached 78.8 currently 76.6. Average high is 65-70 degrees. By the end of month 70-75. We are getting there. 🙂

  12. 79.9 current here…

I have sensor where it doesn’t get sun but just looked and wondered if light reflected off siding. Temp coincides with the Sutton Wunder station but I haven’t been sure about that station so not quite sure if 79.9 accurate

  13. TK here. 😉

WHW account offline for a few.
Going to bump up inland temps tomorrow. Ironically the sea breeze may be stronger near the coast tomorrow as well, setting up a bigger contrast.

    1. Why does WP have issues with your WHW account TK? To the best of my knowledge no one else here have had any problems posting under the “name” of their choice, if I am understanding correctly.

  14. Did anyone see the slow speed chase in Nashua? WOW!!!!!! Several suspensions and firing will be in the cards. That was unbelievable!!!!!!!

  15. According to Eric, Boston’s first 80 degree day is May 4. He stated that there will be no 80 temp anytime soon. Considering that a very hot summer is expected, surprising that a temperature stat as that would be right on time if not having occurred already.

If the HHH wants to hold off awhile longer, that is perfectly fine with me! 😀

    1. What he forgets is most don’t live in Boston, and already experienced 80+ degrees. 🙂

      1. Just FYI Charlie, 655,884 residents live in Boston, myself and a few others here included so I believe any Boston weather or climate stat is more than worth mentioning. Boston is the state capital of course.

      2. Trust me, he didn’t forget that. He’s allowed to talk about Boston. What you brought up is completely irrelevant.

  16. Officially where are records are kept for inland CT at BDL it hit 81 degrees on March 9th.

  17. It was 73 when I arrived home here in JP at 5:30. Still 70.7 now.
When I left work it was 61 at the Facuckta airport. Pure silliness!!

6 miles makes when heck of a difference. We shall see how it is tomorrow.
Hopefully, we can still crack 70 here. I could envision it being 70 here and 55 at
the Airport. I’ve seen it before. More likely to be 64 here and 52 at the airport. 😀 😀 😀

      1. DONT AND I MEAN DONT judge all by one. Charlie, my son is in law enforcement. My suggestion is for you to not bring the topic here……or did you bother to commend the sheriffs deputy who may well have saved countless lives last night.

      2. I was going to say what she just did. You cannot judge all by one. It just doesn’t work that way.
