  1. Thank you, TK!
Your words “at times” for June 4-8 leaves me with some hope that the weekend won’t be a complete washout.

  2. Thank you TK

I saw your post on the Sunday discussion with regard to the parades. I had the same reaction you had when I saw Quincy and then pembroke had cancelled. I do not recall my hometown parade ever being cancelled. Perhaps my memory is being selective. I do recall watching parades in the rain.

The men and women we honor didn’t stop for any type of weather. I simply do not understand why there would be cancellations.

    1. Our ceremony MC, who is also a friend of my mom and was our limo driver in my dad’s funeral just said the same thing about the rain and cancellations.

        1. Thanks. Looking quickly at the list on the contact page which is not sorted by 90 degrees, I think it is Scott77 who had 5/29. There were several who had 5/30

  3. Thanks TK
Thank you to all who have served and our currently serving to we could have what we have here. Memorial Day is more than just cookouts or watching a baseball game its remembering those who have and are making the sacrifices so we could have what we have.
SPC outlook for today. New update around 12:20pm.
    http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day1otlk.html

    1. Latest HRRR shows serious convection in Western NE later today and marches
Eastward, slowly weakening as it progresses. Barely makes it to the coast as
was well forecasted by TK. We shall see what happens with it.

Only 60 here. Long way to go IF any showers are to make it to the coast
with that convection, IF that convection even materializes. πŸ˜€

However, the current rain is just about out of here. Should be dry until after 8PM. We shall see.

  4. Looks as if last slug of rain about to exit here. We are just shy of three quarters of an inch. It was great listening to the rain presunrise. I has been a long time just since we had a prolonged true rain.

  5. Looks like the last slug of rain just cleared here. That’s the end of it unless we get some convection to fire. It’s only 61 but if the sun comes out it could heat fairly fast and a few point of 57 could fire some thunder.
I’ve had almost an inch of rain since midnight (0.91 inches) so a pretty good rain, actually.

    1. That is a bit eerie…..almost the same wording

My oldest just txtd me. She is in car with grandaughter who said yay when it started to rain and then added….I bet nana is saying yay too. I have two (grands) budding weather lovers.

  6. I avoided posting this yesterday on here because I was just to angry but it was a very sad day as a low land gorilla which are considered extremely endangered was fatally shot in Cincinnati zoo. RIP Harambe, it seems even here in the United States endangered animals are not safe. The situation was done because of the lack of care by the parents of the child and the quick irrational response to the situation. If everyone maintained composer and did not start screaming, both would be alive today and there would be one more gorilla than there is now. This gorilla was not showing any aggression to the child if anything it was making sure it was ok. European zoo’s understand this. Also why the heck are there still zoo’s using Bars in which children can slip through. thats the end of my rant

in terms of weather, I told people not to cancel any plans πŸ˜‰

    1. Sorry Matt, as much as I was upset that the gorilla was killed, after viewing
the video, I don’t think the Zoo officials had much choice. That gorilla was pretty damn aggressive with the child. In fact, it was very fortunate the child didn’t drown. I do, however, agree a 100 percent that the Zoo was totally and completely negligent in having bars where a child could squeeze through. They should get their asses sued off!!!! And of course, the child’s parent(s) are to blame as well. No one seems to watch their children anymore. Sad state of affairs.

      1. Im almost in total agreement. They did say they couldn’t tranq because gorilla was agitated and tranq would take too long to be effective. At times it seemed as if gorilla was being protective of child. However, even if that were so, it’s idea of protection could be fatal to a child. Sadly.

The bars should never be far enough apart for a child to go through. As for the parents….it takes literally a second to turn to another child and have the first get into something. That is the one part of this I find impossible to weigh in on either way.

        1. You certainly have a point with watching children.
I dunno. I wasn’t there. But watching many parents these days, I would lean towards the child not being properly watched. True, I am jaded, butI won’t get into why….

All of the zoos I have visited, either have no bars at all,
OR 2 sets of bars, one of which is child proof.

Piss-Poor design of the Gorilla enclosure for sure.

          1. You wisely said exactly why I cannot say anything about the parents. I wasn’t there either.

It is funny. I see some kids in restaurants etc acting up and they drive me nuts. I used to be quite vocal about it (surprise)! But when I paid closer attention, I found adults (no children involved) are fare louder and more rude and they know better. Turned out I was quicker to fault the kids than the adults.

        1. I feel bad for the person who was given the order to shoot the awesome animal… Endangered animals each one is very important. I would add another part to this but it would make some people very angry.

        2. Matt, that gorilla was dragging the child through the water and quite violently, I might add. If that is not aggression, then I don’t know what is.

          Sorry, I simply disagree.

        3. A child’s life is worth more than an animal. And it takes a second for a 4 yo to get away from you. If I were the one on the end of the rifle, I’d have had no hesitation what so ever. You have no idea what that animal could have done in the next 10 seconds or even 5. The gorillas show of “concern” could very well be, but all it would have taken was for a swipe of a hand or foot and the 4 yo would have been dead. Bad deal all the way around, but IMO, they had no choice. You have commendable beliefs, Matt, but with age will come more logical thought processes, and openness to others ideas and thoughts.

            1. I analyzed the video with the background in zoology and animal behavior sent it to my professor that I had back in MCC who studies Primates and he said and others have said the child would of been in no harm if the situation was handled properly.

            2. Matt, I have a BS in Zoology, MS in Biophysiscs, and a PhD in Zoology and biochemistry. I’ve taken numerous animal behavior and ecology courses. As I said before, I admire your passionate beliefs, but sometimes they get in the way of rational thought. Maybe when you’re 51 like I am with a 7 yo and 10 yo, you’ll understand a little better.

And yea, I know, I started late having kids πŸ™‚

  7. Cloud deck thick through eastern new York state and Pennsylvania. I’m not confident that areas to the east see much in the way of sun. Any convection that does fire stays out in western MA while the coastal plain holds onto mostly cloudy but dry weather.

  8. Marginal risk is up for western MA northwest CT. Will see what happens when this gets update by the SPC around 12:20pm.
Got to see some sunshine otherwise those storms will fade as they hit western areas of SNE.

  9. Today’s AccuWeather Trivia Quizzes.

    1. Where is the lightning capital of the world?

    A. Tampa, Florida
    B. Rwanda, Africa
    C. San Juan, Puerto Rico
    D. Calcutta, India

    2. How many umbrellas do Americans buy each year?

    A. 33,000
    B. 333,000
    C. 3,000,000
    D. 33,000,000

    Answers later today.

      1. I seem to recall having one of these questions before. Not that I can recall the answer πŸ™‚

  10. A zoo official stated that a tranquilizer might have made the gorilla even more agitated and aggressive. The child’s life comes first.

    1. Honestly the entire situation could of been avoided but if the zoo people got people to calm the hell down, both the gorilla and the boy would be alive. The gorilla was not showing any aggression towards the boy and what the gorilla was doing was honestly pretty dam cool and shows you that these animals have a very peaceful side of them. There is a reason why primate specialists in the wild can integrate themselves into the group

          1. I love animals and completely against animal cruelty or violence. However, if my child was being guarded by a gorilla, unfortunately, I would want everything to be done to protect my child up to and including death of the animal sadly.

          2. I don’t know what video you saw, but the one we viewed shown on channel 4 news last night showed
that gorilla violently dragging that child through the water. Violently!

      1. oh a tranquilzer could have made the situation worse, the entire thing could of been avoided

        1. By the only fact we know….the bars were wide enough for a child to get through. Everything else is conjecture

There was no outcome but the one the zoo chose. Majority of Experts seem to be in agreement.

          1. there were two barriers the kid got through. Also the kid was saying how he wanted to get into the enclosure so the parents should have picked up on that and watch the kid even more so

  11. SPC updated outlook the same as the link I posted earlier.
Seeing the sun coming out. Hopefully the storms hold off till after the cookout I am going to.

    1. Love that. I saw an interview with one of the Cambridge parade organizers on why they cancelled there. “We have to keep our marchers and spectators safe…” Watch out for those killer raindrops, folks!

        1. What makes it even sadder IMO, is that today is the “actual” Memorial Day, May 30th. πŸ™

            1. I was just going to post that Vicki. Every town and city administrator is scared to death of getting sued.

              1. Seems you and I are on the same wavelength today πŸ™‚ ya know what they say about great minds πŸ™‚

  12. So far weather generally behaving as expected. If you have a BBQ or are going to something outside this afternoon (except Cape Cod through about 3PM) it should be fine. Just keep an eye to the western sky as the afternoon goes on as there will be some additional convection approaching. I still think it doesn’t quite make the coast but we’ll monitor.

  13. Thanks TK !

Quite a deluge this morning in Myles standish. 2 different poundings of rain, many sites ponded quickly. However, all the pollen is washed off.

Seems quite a warm front just came through. It was chilly and raw when we arrived back home, now it’s warm and tropical with a S to SW breeze.

  14. Nice here right now. Light wind, 75 degrees and the sun is out. I have the windows open, pool heater gong and the kids are going to get in.

  15. Models look a little, meh, the first 10 days of June or so for any hint of heat. That polar jet looks like it does in winter if you ask me.
If everything is taken in aggregate, it does look a little toasty toward mid month. The inter mountain west and into the southern plains looks to roast with that Sonoran heat release. If the ridge sets up a little further east like the GFS depicts out toward the end of the run, we could get some of that air over the top into SNE with a SW flow. I can’t see the euro out that far, but it does have the general idea as well. We’ll see if it has legs. Unless of course it’s rushing it and it’s the 4th of July before we see it. Even Judah predicts a hot summer. However, we should start picking up on that on the long range models at some point. If it keeps getting delayed, I dunno.
It seems like it’s doing everything possible to return to a cooler mean, just like it has for 2 plus warm seasons now. Like I said before, while the world torches, SE Canada, and the north east is the lone heat sink.

      1. A lot of people feel that way πŸ™‚
For me, and I like hot weather, we only get about 3 months where we can really get some sustained hotter weather, I don’t want to lose any of it. If we don’t get a hotter summer, I feel cheated out of a warm season. Much like the cold, snow, and winter enthusiast feel cheated out of a winter when we don’t get a lot of snow and cold. Probably not rational; feeling “cheated” out of a season, but most of us have that thought at one time or another.

  16. Sun pokes in and out from time to time here in Boston. It is still mostly cloudy with no real clearing or blue sky just yet.

  17. Sun gone, gentle breeze. 76.4 and we had .70 inch rain

Some lines of storms approaching NY MA border. I can only hope

As for heat in summer. I get why people who prefer heat want as much as they can get. Same, I think, for those who love snow.

And does anyone on here with central air know an approximate cost of running it for a month? Our window units at last house were cheap money…maybe $75 for season. I’m a bit terrified by what a whole system will cost.

      1. Hrrr has then dying way before reaching the coast. Well on the way to dead even before Worcester.

    1. No chance on those storms. They’d have needed to form sooner and further east to have a shot at making it here as just showers. This is what I suspected the issue would be – too late and too far west.

          1. A www gee. I already moved west once to be closer to the storms. I don’t think I can move again πŸ˜‰

  18. The only reason I really did any talking about watching for storms in central and eastern MA and adjacent NH and RI was because of holiday related outdoor activity and travel, just in case something went wrong. Otherwise I’d probably left it for west only and no mention east. But the safe bet was to watch it because of the higher stakes, in terms of potential impact of anything that unexpectedly survived.

    1. Always in the middle. In framingham it was north or south of the pike…never on the pike. In Sutton it is west or east….never central.

      I’m getting a complex πŸ™ πŸ˜† πŸ˜‰

  19. Answers to Today’s AccuWeather Trivia Quizzes.

    1. Where is the lightning capital of the world?

    A. Tampa, Florida
    B. Rwanda, Africa
    C. San Juan, Puerto Rico
    D. Calcutta, India

    The answer is B.

    2. How many umbrellas do Americans buy each year?

    A. 33,000
    B. 333,000
    C. 3,000,000
    D. 33,000,000

    The answer is D.

    1. 1. I’ve known that for years only because that was one of my forecast areas. Fun stuff. πŸ™‚

      2. I guessed that, because it totally does not surprise me. Approximately 32,999,000 of those are purchased because the user has no idea to use one in wind so that it does not blow inside out.

    2. Hey for once I got both. I thought we had lightening before. I seem to recall FL is lightening capital of US. Second was a guess so I got lucky

  20. Sometimes I wonder if the programmer that was hired to “upgrade” the GFS model misread the instructions as “downgrade” … twice in a row.

  21. Matt plenty of experts far more knowledgeable than any of us on here, said without a doubt that boy would be dead if the zoo didn’t kill the Gorilla. My heart aches for the gorilla but as a responsible parents of two boys I can tell you, they get away quick no matter how much attention I am paying to them. If that was my child in there I would have begged the zoo to shoot the animal. A human life is far more valuable than an animal. Now in regards to the bars I don’t know how wide etc… they are. But what I can tell you is that both my boys are as skinny as a rail and probably could squeeze their bodies through many things so I can’t blame the zoo either yet. It was a tragedy all the way around. But if I was behind that rifle as well I would have not hesitated to kill the gorilla either.

These feelings and thoughts come as you get older and have kids as well.

  22. Look at that. The storms didn’t get past the CT River. Where did I hear that would be the case πŸ™‚
