DAYS 1-5 (JULY 31-AUGUST 4)…
A couple unsettled days as July ends and August begins as high pressure sits to the north, not strong enough as I thought earlier, to hold off a series of disturbances crossing southern New England. High pressure overtakes the region along with a return to the feel of summer by the middle of the week.
TODAY: Mainly cloudy. Episodes of scattered showers. Highs 71-78 coast, 75-81 interior. Wind light E.
TONIGHT: Mainly cloudy. Scattered showers. Lows 62-69, warmest urban areas. Wind light E.
MONDAY: Mostly cloudy. Scattered showers. Highs 75-83, coolest coast. Wind light E.
TUESDAY: Partly sunny. Isolated showers. Lows 62-69, warmest urban areas. Highs 77-85, coolest coast.
WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows 63-70, warmest urban areas. Highs 78-87, coolest South Coast.
THURSDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows 65-72, warmest urban areas. Highs 80-90, coolest South Coast.
DAYS 6-10 (AUGUST 5-9)…
Heat and humidity dominant August 5-6 with only a few isolated showers and thunderstorms mainly August 6. A period of showers/thunderstorms August 7 leading to cooler/drier weather by August 8-9.
DAYS 11-15 (AUGUST 10-14)…
Below normal temperatures early in the period recover to near to above normal late in the period. Mainly dry weather.
Thank you! And Happy Sunday
Thanks TK!
What are your thoughts for the fall in terms of rainfall? Do we ever break this drought?
Maybe sometime in 2017…
Thanks TK.
Dave Epstein said that 1965 was a very dry year like this one. A bit too young for me to remember as I was just starting kindergarten.
We have droughts periodically, and some of them have been serious. It’s not a frequent occurrence, but it is nothing “new” either. π
Logan deficit = -6.75″ (and likely counting)
They will make it to -10 before the year’s over.
Thank you, TK.
Any rain will be helpful, but it appears that what is falling or will fall between now and Tuesday will be light and episodic as you said above.
My guess is that we’re close to a record for lowest amount of rainfall in July. Certainly at Logan the aggregate amount of rainfall must be very low. Perhaps the small amount we got on Friday and the light stuff today will prevent us from going into the record books as the driest July?
Eric had indicated that were in the top 5 for low rainfall for June and July combined. I think it was top 5, perhaps it was top 10, but I think 5.
Good morning and thank you TK.
Last night the humidity was AWFUL!! Just brutal.
Logan received a TRACE of rain overnight.
How disappointing it was to watch what appeared to be a wall of rain heading towards
us only to see it go POOF before reaching the coast. POOFORAMA for sure!!
NOT surprised one bit.
Now, let’s see how much we get today. It’s actually raining here, although pavement
under the trees is still dry.
Even the juiced up stuff in North Central North Western MA, is diminishing greatly.
Must be the ghost of Charlie.
TK thank you for the update.

JPDave, you’re right (again). It’s truly remarkable how that wall of rain practically vanished on its march towards the coast.
It was amazing, wasn’t it. Still raining here, just barely.
So light, pavement under trees still DRY.
You said this last night. I looked out the window around 4:00 am and thought how correct you were
Thanks TK. Have some good downpours this morning in Sterling.
Please send them this way. There hasn’t been enough rain to put down the dust. π
More the exception than the rule, but a few have been out there. π
Replied to some comments above, in case it was missed. π
You didn’t reply to mine. Sniff

Cool, I like RadarScope even more….
Just took a screen shot with it.

I often use screen shots from radarscope to send in FB messages to folks with questions, or a fellow meteorologist when we’re discussing things in real time.
It is a really nice feature and I would like to thank you
again for turning me on to that fine product.
I’m starting to use RadarScope more thanks to advice from here. I like it. But can’t you take screen shots of anything?
In can be difficult from various mobile apps. Some easier than others. π
I see what you mean. Forwarding the screen shot is a built in option, making it very simple. What o was thinking is that I literally take a screen shot and then send. An extra step. Definitely a very nice feature.
I cannot drill down to towns and streets. Should I be able to? I’m using the iPad app.
re: droughts
as a youngster, I seem to recall a few Summers of unusual dryness. I could put a date
on it, but I’d say somewhere in the mid=late 50s.
There were a few in the 50s, 60s, 70s, and borderline in the 80s. The 90s were fairly wet overall as were the early 2000s. It’s cyclic. Like everything.
the DROUGHT Is OVER in Boston.
Logan has now officially recorded 0.01 inch of rain today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
π
If anyone has trouble accessing the blog it will probably be brief. I’ve noticed the server acting a bit wonky this morning. π

I’m head over to Foxboro for the afternoon (visit to the Hall, lunch, watching Star Trek), so no updates from me this afternoon. But, I’ll leave this here for your enjoyment: http://www.theonion.com/article/scientists-trace-heat-wave-to-massive-star-at-cent-21088
BAHAHAHA! π
That’s a good one.
Logan’s rain total for the day: 0.15 inch
WOW! A certain drought buster! What a Joke!
They may double it tonight if they are lucky.
After a long but not unusual stretch of quiet, the Atlantic tropics are finally waking up. A good chance (70% according to the NHC) that this disturbance in the Caribbean will become a tropical cyclone in the next few days. Track looks to be west into Belize or Mexico. Probably not a threat for the US and certainly not for us.

We should see more of this activity in the next couple months; no specific threats catching my eye, but it’s that time of year. The roughly 75 day “peak” window is on.
Still this one is moving too quickly to develop real circulation.
