Speed Bump

1:33AM

A wave of low pressure moving along a stationary front just south of New England will bring clouds and some showers and a few thunderstorms to southern New England today and tonight. This will all scoot offshore as high pressure builds in on Saturday, and after early clouds depart, the remainder of the weekend will be fantastic.

Looking ahead… Heat returns Monday. Showers/storms break the heat Tuesday. Cooler and drier air returns Wednesday. Hot weather may try to come back by the end of next week, but it will be a close call as there will be some additional cool air spinning around an upper level low in eastern Canada, and that can always send pieces of cooler air southward into New England when the high pressure ridge is centered over the middle of the country, as it likely will be.

Boston Area Forecast…

  1. Pardon the monster avatars, or whatever might show up. I’m testing the settings on the blog.

  2. I woke up this morning to thunder, lightning and heavy rain. Just cloudy and drizzling here but I can see more rain heading up from the southwest for later.

Also woke up to some “strange little things” beside my blogs! 🙂 TK – I know you are just testing the settings. But they are awfully cute!

    1. Well, I have a very odd sense of humor anyway, and I love quirky stuff, so those little critters may be around for a while, or change to something else. Eventually I will make it that you can add your own icon as long as it’s family friendly. 🙂 I was going to use one of my FB profile pics as mine but I don’t have the plug-in for it at the moment.

I have to be honest. My initial blog writing was saying showers/storms this afternoon. When I got up early this morning, I had to update it, because the activity was already here! Mother Nature is a fickle lady.

  3. Hahahahaha – I love the avatars – wonder if I have one too.

I woke up at 4:30 also to the start of a storm with vivid lightning and a rumbling thunder and then just as it got here it fell apart. 4:30 is a nasty time to wake up – I can never fall back to sleep. Have had two more cells go through – the second was smaller

      1. The option assigns a little monster to everybody based on email, so you’ll get the same one every time. I got one of the ones that looks like it has a tree on the top of it. Kind of like my spikey hair in real life. How appropriate.

  4. Cute little monsters. Some nasty showers and storms earlier this morning including one that prompted a severe thunderstorm warning. I just looked at the storm prediction center and they expaned the slight risk area to include parts of SNE. I think the majority of the area will see but won’t rule out an isolated severe storm in the sligh risk area.

  5. My daughter said they had hail in Uxbridge. Every time I look at the radar it appears the southeast and cape are getting hammered. Either it’s the same line of storms and I’m checking the radar too often 🙁 or it’s several lines.

TK – I like my little guy – it seems to have a rain cloud over its head and be surprised but enjoying the rain anyway!

  6. I agree Tom, it was a nice little drink of water for the landscape. We received just over .50 in Hanover as of a hour ago.

Oh and my wife gave birth to our son Liam James last week! Very excited and his 15 month old sister can’t get enough of him.

    Have a great day everyone!

    1. Congratulations to you and your family to the new addition! I love the name Liam and you have a great day, too! 🙂

      1. I also love coastal’s avatar – how fitting for his screen name!!! I wish there were a way to click on them to maximize them. I work with a small resolution so they are hard to see. Will try my phone to see if I can make them larger. Can you tell it takes very little to amuse me and I really think these are clever.

  7. My avatar looks kind of angry – don’t know why that one came up based on my email. I tend to be a happy person who loves to laugh.

‘Though my avatar looks like he may be having a “bad hair day” – ok – sometimes I can relate to that! 🙂

And btw – I am a she not a he – so maybe my avatar could use some high heels! 🙂

  8. I think I’m going to switch them to something else and see what comes up. I can change it between about 5 options right now… Nothing wrong with having a little fun here. 🙂

      1. Not as scary as the others 🙂 – in any case, it looks like you are having fun, TK! Enjoy! Whatever one I end up I will be happy – what is important to be able to be on this blog!

  9. TK , while I am looking forward to the additions to this site later this year as I assume everyone else is, please just make sure that there are no “refreshing” issues like on the WBZ blog. Keep up the good work as always! 🙂

  10. Mine looks like it should have the name “Professor Quintsquint”.

Anyway, brightening sky at times here N of Boston. Had my windshield replaced in my driveway and the guy needed 45 min of no-rain. At least that was achieved. When I scheduled this back on Tuesday, and picked Friday, it was because I was forecasting storms for Thursday, and a nice day for today. So the meteorologist goes and messes up his own weather forecast for his own stuff. Go me.

  11. The radar shows a lot of rain and thunderstorms down in the mid atlantic states moving north eastward. Is that area suppose to reach southern new england tonight? It appears that it may.
