DAYS 1-5 (AUGUST 26-30)…
A cold front swings through the region today with a few showers and thunderstorms possible, though any one area will be rain-free most of the day, and the threat will end during the afternoon from north to south, though the greatest threat for a heavier storm would be southeastern MA as the front will be in that area during the heat of the day. 1. Thanks TK!

Very dark and threatening here but no rain anywhere in SNE. All of it is draped across NNE. All based on radar as of 9:30 am.

  2. Atmosphere is very heavy like it wants to pour any second but as I stated above, radar says otherwise.

  3. Thank you TK. Drove through a brief shower as I came to work this morning. Sure wish it was a torrential rain!

  4. Thanks TK. Hope everyone is doing well!!

Heading up to Attitash for the week and doubt we could ask for a better forecast up there.

    1. Keeps trying to peak thru here also. The very thin layer of clouds gives the sky that really pretty baby blue shade.

JPD wunder says DP is 74 here also.

  5. Latest guidance suggest any showers/storms in the Boston area would be
between Noon and 2PM IF any at all. Fat Chance, I say.

  6. Agree fat chance for any rain here for at least a week if not more. We will break the driest Jun-Aug. interesting though that Jan-Aug we are not even in top 10 driest.

    1. it is but I believe I read a statement from Noaa that from Febuary to now has been. I think its more to do with the below normal snowfall of last winter and below normal rainfall of spring that has lead to this drought more so than the dry summer weather.

  7. And then there were more. A bunch of cells just instantly popped down by
the Cape Cod Canal. Go figure. NOTHING for us!

    1. Fascintating stuff. I LIKE.
      Thank you for sharing.

If I may ask? How did you come across this. Nice find.

  8. Go to lunch and come back and ACTION!
Cell “just’ to the South of the office and some N&W West of the City ie Waltham. 😀

Will any of those make it into the City? We’ll know soon. 😀

    1. Noticed the same thing. From my window perched up on the 11th floor looks like quite a bit of action to our south, perhaps Blue Hills area (not sure), but nothing in Boston. It’s crazy that all summer we’ve been having the same discussion.

        1. According to Boston Nexrad, that cell to the South has
tops of 6,000 feet. That’s about what it looked like
          to me. 😀

  9. The 12Z GFSL has totally and completely LOST Invest99-L, while the 12Z HWRF
maintains the same theme for 3 or 4 runs in a row now.

Currently at hour 105, it has it as 959MB in the Gulf. Waiting for the completetion
    of the run.

As long as we are fantasizing, how about the 12Z GFS at hour 384.

    With 250MB winds:

  10. And as the Cells approached the CITY, POOFORAMA!(@#*!*(@&#(!*()@#*)!*@#()

What is the a barrier on the City limits? What gives here?????????????

  11. There’s been some rain from Waltham to Lynn, Nahant to Salem, and Hull to Scituate, but zilch in Boston. Unbelievable. I’m sure the ducks are thinking the same thing. Yesterday’s NAM had them all excited, but when I see them on my way home they’ll all be quacking the same thing – crap, crap, crap, crap.

    1. hahahahahaha

And why do I want to repeat the old child’s game…trot trot to Boston, trot trot to Lynn, trot trot to Salem and we all fall in…Somehow poor Boston has been left out

  12. I believe the Front is through Boston. DPs very slow to fall.
Logan is down to 70. Still 72 at my house.

    1. DP also down to 70 at my house. Very slow fall. The drier air is lagging behind.
It best get here in a hurry!

      1. For some reason, the TV mets are saying that Logan hit 90 today but you are correct JPD, it is 91F.

19 days of 90+…and probably counting.

  13. The darker look to the sky this morning was the advection of warm/humid air into the region. The showers from that were supposed to be across NH/ME and they were. Although a few isolated brief downpours were down in far southeastern MA early.

The stuff midday and afternoon basically followed script. The weather cleared out nicely north and west as expected and the heaviest showers/storms were to the southeast. Never expected this stuff to be widespread, and it was not. We didn’t have the atmosphere for it today.

Awesome day at Water Country. Home just in time for a small party for Nate and the Pats game. 🙂

  14. P.S. .. Still carrying the same idea on 99L. Most of the moisture up the peninsula. Lack of full development. Maybe some development if a center can form and get into the eastern Gulf, though that would be brief.

Reminder: The ECMWF is not reliable for these things very far in advance and especially with undeveloped systems.

Irony: The GFS was basically the only one to get the lack-of-development correct to this point.

  15. Yea, they are. When Sheard gets back they’ll be a force.
They’ll need it too. I’m afraid the offense is going to be little anemic. Hopefully they can win some games with 17-20 points.

  16. For the second week in a row, the Pats defense gave up the last TDs of the game. Fortunately, the Panthers kicked their onside kick out of bounds.

I thought BB would have by now mentioned to the defense that the game is 4 quarters, and not 3 1/2.

    1. A lot of the guys that were on the field for that final touchdown will be bagging groceries at Stop and Stop on 9/11 when the Patriots are in Arizona.
