  1. I am skeptical about the pattern change once we get past mid November. This feels like winter of 11-12 when pattern change is coming and as we know it never happened. Disappointing winter for snow lovers.

  2. Dr. Cohen’s AO Blog should come out tomorrow.

Let’s see if he has any updates for the upcoming Winter.

  3. I am hoping here in CT we break this curse when there is accumulating snow in October the winter snowfall is below normal. Officially at Bradley last Thursday 1.5 inches fell.

    1. He did post this:

      @bullish_trader Read my blog tomorrow.

So, I guess it is coming out sometime today and not tomorrow. 😀

    2. I wonder if some of this higher snow might have to do with a warmer Arctic Ocean that is taking in more and more heat with less and less ice cover.

Perhaps ocean effect snow or synoptic snow is increased at higher latitudes due to more moisture being available from the arctic.ocean.

  4. I’m not convinced that Thursday is as warm as everyone is expecting, at least for part of the area. All of the models bring that warm front back through here as a backdoor Wednesday night. They lift it northward again as a warm front ahead of the low on Thursday, but differ on how far north it gets. The GFS/ECMWF both bring it up to about the MA/NH border and that’s it, the Canadian brings it up into south-central NH, and the NAM/WRF/SREF don’t bring it much past the Mass Pike.

Right now, I’d lean towards areas from the Merrimack Valley northward staying in the 50s for much of the day Thursday possibly popping into the 60s quickly just before the cold front comes through.

  5. Thank you, TK!

Absolutely stunning November day. A 10 in my book. Autumn in New England never ceases to amaze me, as it does many people, including tourists from outside our region.

Matt, I just read your response to my post. It’s fantastic that you’re working on environmental and biodiversity measures. So crucial that we as stewards of our planet’s resources continue to monitor our environment.

Vicki, I just read your reply to my post on BB. I couldn’t agree more. Great coaches – especially in the ultimate team game of football – are goal-focused in the extreme, and demand loyalty and discipline. I admire Belichick for this. His personality rubs me the wrong way, however. This extends to his treatment of certain players (Welker comes to mind) and the media.

  6. So my town posted a suvey on the town website asking what people thought on having trick or treating the last Saturday of October vs the actual day it fall on . I am beside myself . I’m so sick and tired of people messing with holidays . Let’s celebrate Xmas that way as well so we get the next day off . I’m so mad that such a question would even come up .

    1. I hate Halloween so I would be happy if they did away with it all together. However, I do agree that they should just leave things well enough alone as far as the date of the celebration. Now, if asked if the Super Bowl should be moved to a Saturday I would be all in. 🙂

      1. I really enjoyed handing out the candy last night. The joy on
those kids faces was priceless! My wife was with me for as long
as her back held out, but then she had to retire to the living room so I held the fort for the rest of the evening.

I like it EXCEPT when it falls on Saturday night and ruins
my weekend. That is the ONLY night I do not like it as much.

  7. I dunno. I think this area may be one of a handful that does trick or treat on actual Halloween. A lot of states/towns pick a day to do it. Usually on a Friday or Saturday.
I don’t see what the big deal is. Having smaller kids myself, I would prefer it on the weekend.

    1. It was always on the date in the meteowest area. I was surprised on the Sutton site how many asked when it would be. I’ve never known it not to be on oct 31

  8. I enjoy Halloween along with handing out candy and seeing all the different costumes.
I go to my mom’s house and the both of us hand out candy since there is not many kids in the condo complex I live in. There were about 25 kids that came. We had more in 2014 and 2015 when Halloween was not on a school night.

  9. Am enjoying the early evening on the deck. The most beautiful swan just flew literally only feet over my head. I do not recall ever seeing one in flight

Blue birds are playing everywhere. A dragonfly….carrying an angel on its wings…just landed and sat on my arm for a quick visit.

On the first day of a month that is horribly difficult for me for a couple of reasons, it is amazing to be reminded of beauty. What a night!!!

        1. Sorry. That was supposed to say Mark. My eyes were a bit clouded with both happy and sad tears. And that sure made me laugh
