Sunday Forecast

10:45AM

DAYS 1-5 (NOVEMBER 6-10)
Disturbance passing through brings cloudiness and a few showers especially to eastern areas for part of today before exiting late day. The upcoming week will feature mainly dry weather with a warming trend later Monday through Election Day Tuesday, which should feature great weather for going out to vote. A cold front will drop through the region early Wednesday producing some clouds and nothing more than a passing rain shower and then fair weather returns later Wednesday and Thursday.
TODAY: Lots of clouds, intervals of sun, and a few passing rain showers mainly southeastern NH and eastern MA. Highs 48-56. Wind N 10-20 MPH with higher gusts.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy evening. Mostly clear overnight. Lows 28-36. Wind N 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY: Sunny. Highs 48-55. Wind light variable.
TUESDAY: Sunny. Lows 28-35. Highs 55-63.
WEDNESDAY: Variably cloudy with a passing rain shower morning. Mostly sunny afternoon. Lows 42-50. Highs 50-58.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows 28-35. Highs 48-55.

DAYS 6-10 (NOVEMBER 11-15)
Veterans Day November 11 may start fair but end unsettled depending on the development of low pressure offshore. This may linger into November 12 with rain/snow showers as it turns windy/colder but most of the weekend of November 12-13 should feature dry weather despite wind and a chill. Fair weather and still on the cool side November 14-15.

DAYS 11-15 (NOVEMBER 16-20)
Still watching for a slightly more active pattern during this time but not entirely sure how it evolves just yet. Will revisit this on the next update.

  1. Quick peak at 12z GFS looks to keep system OTS for next weekend. 0z GFS did have some accumulating snow for parts of SNE next weekend.

  2. Still hearing a lot of crickets last night when out with the dogs. I’m in Warwick near Narragansett Bay.

    1. Cool. I have not noticed them here but despite frosts have had mosquitoes

I think it is safe to say all green is gone from the trees. There are still plenty of leaves on the trees though. Our neighborhood is lined with a glorious rust/gold color.

  3. Thanks TK.

I’m enjoying the weather pattern of late; it’s reasonably active, even though it hasn’t been that exciting. Will only become more active over the next couple weeks. If it were a month or two from now I’d be excited about the prospects for some big snow events just based on the modeled pattern. Even as it is, I think we’ll have a couple of watchers from mid-month onward.

  4. The last three GFS runs are wildly different for next Friday/Saturday. 0z had a northern stream system drop down and redevelop significantly off the coast (may have picked up a little bit of southern stream energy), bringing a rain/snow event to New England. 6z showed a more robust southern stream system that phases cleanly with the northern stream system, a bit late to be of much interest for SNE, but it showed a lot of snow to our north. And the 12z run has a much stronger southern stream system that ultimately has a very messy interaction with the northern stream system well offshore of New England. And there are continued variations going back more runs. I’d say hands off that model beyond 4-5 days at this point. The big difference between it and the others is that southern stream system, which the other models don’t really have.

Here is my attempt at some trivia regarding Daylight Saving Time.

    1) What two states do not observe Daylight Saving Time?

    a) Indiana and Ohio
    b) Arizona and New Mexico
    c) Arizona and Hawai’i
    D) Hawai’i and Alaska

    2) What was the latest sunrise for Boston ever?

    a) 8:55 am
    b) 7:21 am
    c) 7:45 am
    d) 8:14 am

    3) Under the new laws regarding DST that went into effect in 2007, the date of Boston’s latest sunrise is:

    a) November 6
    b) Halloween
    c) November 8
    d) Election Day

    1. I’m confused by last two but will wait to ask later

      C. D. A

I’m tempted to say C for latest sunrise but will go with D and kick myself later

      Thank you Captain

  6. Since there seems to be little appetite for weather talk, how about some football? Watching some bye week NFL today… Quality of play really is poor across the league. A lot of close games, which is exciting, but a lot of sloppy football. The Pats and the Cowboys seem to be the only teams capable of consistently executing at a high level. Tonight’s Denver/Oakland game will be interesting; we’ll find out if the Raiders are for real or not (I think Denver will expose them, and that the Broncos are once again the biggest threat to the Pats).

And looking ahead to next Sunday night, I think it’ll be a great opportunity off the bye for the Pats to showcase themselves at home against what I think is an overrated opponent that will be coming off a short week. That will surely be a high TV ratings game. The Pats have played a great season but they’ve made some uncharacteristic errors at times and I don’t think they’ve shown their best. Time to put together the four quarter dominant performance they’re capable of.

  7. My Cowboys best record in NFC 7-1. I never would have thought that when Romo went down third preseason game. Big test next week in Pittsburgh.

    1. Just a dream at this point, but I’d love to see a Pats/Cowboys Super Bowl. Can you imagine? “America’s Team” which like you said has a great storyline this year, against maybe the most polarizing pro sports franchise in the country. Now that would be fun.

    2. patriots vs Raiders in the afc championship with snow in New England. Cowboys vs hawks NFC…… I fear the ravens They are doing what they always seem to do. Emerge when they have to in order to get into the playoffs. Patriots vs Cowboys would be a good game. Patriots win.

  8. I am not booking the plane tickets to the Super Bowl yet for the Cowboys. I am impressed with the play of Prescott and Elliot. Elliot with those runs looks like Emmitt Smith. I think we got our QB moving forward. The thing that worries me is were going to run into a team that is good on defense and is going to stop our run. Cowboys success comes when there able to run the ball and take time off the clock.

  9. Trivia answers:

    1) c. Most of Arizona and Hawai’i do not subscribe to DST. There are a few US territories that don’t either. Up to about 10 years ago, there were a couple of counties in Indiana that didn’t change their clocks with the rest of the state. There’s a great episode of “The West Wing” when Donna, Toby and Josh miss a flight and get stuck in Indiana because they forgot this.
There is a proposal with the Massachusetts legislature for the Commonwealth to join Atlantic Standard Time.

    2) d. The latest sunrise ever was 8:14 am. Right after the holidays in 1974, the USA switched over to DST as part of the Energy Crisis. The sun rose on January 6, 1974 at 8:14 am. I vaguely remember this as an eighth grader who walked to middle school.

    3) a. In 2007, the end of DST went from the last Sunday in October to the first Sunday in November. The latest first Sunday is November 7. The latest sunrise would be Saturday, November 6.

I heard on the Today Show yesterday that candy companies lobbied Congress in 1985 to change DST to after Halloween so that kids would have more time to trick o’ treat so the companies would sell more candy!

It’s 8:27 pm. That’s what my clock says. My body tells me it’s 2:45 am. It feels like it’s been dark for 18 hours already!!!

Hope you enjoyed this. Have a good week, everyone! Thank a vet!

    1. Thanks Captain! I got 2 of 3 correct AND I am the only one to get #2 correct.

I remember those “energy crisis” days as well. I was in junior high at the time.

    2. I enjoyed it. I think I got all correct and I NEVER do that. I was confused about the latest because I remember the 1974 when we set forward in January and I watched the sunrise from my desk. But we started work at 8:00 so I was torn. I wasn’t sure if they’d taken that year into account.

Three was a guess as I clearly misunderstood that one.

      Thank you. It was fun!!!

      1. Yes Vicki, you did get all the questions correct. My mistake…and it appears that the Captain and I are the same age. 🙂

        1. I had not seen your post. We were typing at same time.

I cannot remember your age and thought captain was a lot younger than my 67 years.

I admit to loving the early sunset.
