  1. Thanks TK for the update! Based on today’s CPC outlook, it will be well above normal temps with very little rainfall for the forseeable future. Very warm to hot temps are definitely with us for awhile. Dog days of summer to say the least.

  2. Thanks TK. I chuckle at the fact people were talking about a repeat of 2009. If the humidity drops next week we will be talking fire danger after the hot weather this week.

  3. You’re welcome guys. I have to be honest, my summer long range is not working out very well. I went with below normal temps & precip. for June. Well, it was cooler than normal, but certainly not dry. I also figured July to be cooler than it has been. I under-forecast the ridge of high pressure in the middle of the country.

  4. TK you never said like 2009:). I am also surprised by July temps as well. Did not expect such a warm month.

    1. That is true. I never thought we were heading for a repeat of 2009. Basically I said, not like 2009 and not like 2010. Somewhere in between…

  5. If it wasn’t for our proximity to Canada bringing us cooldowns every now and then, summer would be the most miserable season for me. I hate hot, humid temps. Too bad we can’t have 70s-low 80’s all summer long.

  6. Philip you are right. Thankfully we get cool downs. Where I will be vacationing in a couple of weeks would love to see nice cool dry Canadian come in and stay for a while. As they say down there once the heat and humidity starts it stays that way till just after Labor Day.

  7. Jimmy, if you are going to be vacationing south of DC, I wouldn’t count on any kind of cooldowns, brief or otherwise. You would need an extremely strong cold front this time of year for any relief in the southern tier of states.

  8. The record highs for this Thursday/Friday are going to be difficult to achieve (102F/103F) respectively. My hope is that we can stay in the 90’s and let these records stand. Even Saturday’s record high is 100F.

  9. Philip I will be vacationing south of D.C. in a few weeks. There was a strong cold front a few years ago that made it all the way down to the Gulf Coast which is very unusual for the summer. When I got out of the water I felt a chill since the air was so dry.
I think were going to see some sort of weather alert for heat this week but thankfully this will be a short stay with this heat.

  10. Excessive Heat Watches are up for parts of SNE for Thursday and Friday.
Stay cool, drink plenty of water and for anyone who has to work outside take frequent breaks since heat is nothing to mess with.

  11. The one saving grace for Thursday is going to be an active breeze, SW winds 15-20 mph, gusts up to 30 mph.
