DAYS 1-5 (MARCH 5-9)

A drier period of weather expected with temperatures near to below normal.
Thank you.
Also, thank you, TK
Philip, you are so correct about the March 29, 1984′ storm. I focus on the 13th because that was day my son was born. But the storm on the 29th has many similarities to the haloween Storm a few years ago. Sap was running and leaves had started to open. There was tremendous tree damage. We lost power for four days. I will never like destruction but that was quite an amazing storm
Thanks TK.
Feeling like January this weekend.
We were out at a company event last night and it was downright brutal with the wind. I don’t remember a day like yesterday in march in a long time.
I was in Boston at the bruins game last night and it was cold , cold with that wind . I think it was 11 when we got in the car to head home around 10.
Good morning and thank you TK.
Hadi, we were out last night as well and it was cold for sure.
Let’s see what’s on tap for us down the line.
Now the GFS and Euro pretty much agree for Friday, the 10th with about 2-3 inches
of snow. However, they totally disagree for the next system along about the 12th, with the Euro taking it underneath us while the GFS runs it through or near the
Lakes. Plenty of time for that one to unfold.
We only made it to 9 this morning. I actually expected lower like in the range of 2-5 Degrees. Oh well. It’s up to 19 now.
I liked the ranges I had better than lower. Too much wind.
It was plenty cold enough, that’s for sure.
Thanks TK !
12Z GFS snow for Friday, coming up in the world!

A slight shift in the track to the North would change this completely. π
Or slight shift south could bring some of those higher totals north of me in MA would shift south toward me.
GFS Shows another 4-6 inches with more to the South on the 12th.

Bring the first one a tad further south and the second one much further North so that My area gets hit with both π

4 great questions Longshot! I know these 4 as they are meteorology/climatology 101 for me. It would be embarrassing if I did not know them. I’ll stand aside and see what we get.
Mac would not be pleased if I missed several. I have a grand who recently chatted with me about Ray and Leigh π
ASSIGNMENT: Compare the 12z Friday solution for the position of low pressure between the GEM, GFS, and ECMWF. Now, make a high-confidence forecast based on this information.
ANSWER: You can’t.
Red flag!
Unless you have an in as to which one is more correct?
All of a sudden the Euro went to a pooforama just when the GFS is upping the ante. Go figure.
Happy I don’t have to make a forecast. Push come to shove, My forecast for Friday would be Cloudy with a chance of some snow. Emphasis on “chance”.
I have no way at the moment of knowing which one is more correct in this particular situation. Past experience shows me it can be either of the 3, and even possibly neither of the 3, if it turns out that wave never actually ends up existing. Don’t rule that out either.
No wonder I couldn’t complete the assignment. Do,I get an A π π
You get an A plus, plus, plus, plus, plus, plus, plus, plus! (Get the reference anyone?)
A to the eighth power…..wow
You lost me. At first I though you might have meant the answers to all of the quizes were A. Nope, not possible.
???????????????????????????????????????????????????
Nope.
HINT: Movie reference.
Nobody’s gonna get it. Here’s the answer…

Only Christmas movie I do not like so nope I would never get it. It is son’s favorite so I will see if he gets it. Thanks
That one is one of my favorites now but it took a while to reach that status.
I keep trying
Logan 3:00 pm obs. = 32F
Only up to 32 on a march day with full sunshine. Shows the depth of the cold spell we just had.
Have a feeling the GFS may be drastically different within 2 runs.
That 12z ECMWF is an arctic slam down late this week. Would be highly anomalous cold for going on mid-March.
Don’t rule that out. Signals for March have been for some decent cold shots. I don’t think this is the only one.

Thank you Longshot. That was fun.
There’s a first. 4 questions and 4 correct answers on my part.
You don’t see that every day. π
re: Ralphie and his A+….
NEVER in a million years would I guess that. Perhaps if we were sitting at Dec. 24th I might have a shot. π And that’s a big might.
Opportunity presented itself in March on a day that felt like a few Christmases I can remember. π
Son didn’t get it either. And I think he watches the movie a dozen times each Christmas. To be fair I txtd him and we all know how well I explain things. His response to my first attempt was
Huh?
Well, guess poor Ralphie is left out in the cold. π

Not the easiest of forecasts for the end of the week as the models are all over the place. I took my best stab at it for now: https://stormhqblog.wordpress.com/2017/03/06/weekly-outlook-march-6-12-2017/
And I took a stab too.
New post!
