The hottest days in Boston are usually with winds straight out of the west. Today is no exception. But with that west wind, we often see it very hot and not as humid. Again, that’s the case. The haze has left us for the most part, the air is cleaner, and drying out. Boston’s dew point has dropped from an oppressive 75 almost all the way through the 60s. The temperature has gone over 100 at Logan Airport (tied record of 103), and hit or slightly exceeded 100 in several other cities and towns, but with the lower dew point, the heat index today is not much different from yesterday. And there is a nice enough breeze for ventilation, maybe not as strong as yesterday’s breeze, but still would be worse if winds were under 10 mph the entire time.
What is coming up?
While the humidity is on the decrease, overall, the heat will still be with us through Saturday, even as a cold front moves through. The cooler air will wait until Saturday night and Sunday to move in, as high pressure builds north of us and turns the wind north to even northeast for a time later in the weekend.
Looking into next week, more “normal” July temperatures can be expected for the first half of the week, but there are some signs of a return to heat for the second half of the week. We’ll take a closer look at that later this weekend with The Week Ahead blog.

If the 103 is correct, then Boston tied the record for today!
Hot one working outside today in Boston. I did a pruning job and other tasks.
I will take this over the cold anytime. I think Its funny that people complain
about the cold and snow, and than when we get hot weather they complain about that. Not me I hate the cold. Of course I am not talking about you guys,
just people. I have a feeling this summer may go down as a hot one. Have a great weekend to everybody.
We did tie today old salty- logan hit 103.
It got to 101 degrees in Sudbury today. Right now it is 100 degrees – wow.
It does feel less humid but it still is very hot. For those who love the heat – enjoy. But I will be glad when Sunday comes and it gets cooler (after this – 80 degrees is cool!). I am just grateful that we are getting these breaks, unlike the midwest and other places going so long with no breaks in the heat.
This morning’s low temp at Logan was 81F. I am not surprised…last night for sleeping was awful and probably no better tonight either.
It can be as hot as it wants until last two weeks of August and then I’d sincerely appreciate cooler weather since well be at the beach then and no matter what anyone says the beach is not fun in 100 deg weather you can’t even walk on the sand.
I’m still thinking about the 8 feet of snow in chile today. Ahhhhhhhh. Well maybe not 8 feet but you know what I mean
Today is my oldests 31st birthday and it was equally hot in 1980 and for a longer period
1980 was a blistering hot summer, as were the summers of 1983, 1988, 1995, among a few others more recently.
