Sunday Forecast

8:15AM

DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 9-13)
And now the nicer weather pattern arrives, starting with a warmer west to southwest flow of air which will warm the region nicely, except the typically cooler South Coast, during the next few days. A weaker pressure gradient may leave the east coastal areas of MA and NH a little more vulnerable to a sea breeze on Tuesday. A weak cold front will knock the temperature back a little bit by Wednesday, which will be the only day with a rain shower threat, before a stronger front makes it cooler still by Thursday.
TODAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 47-55 South Coast, 56-63 elsewhere. Wind SW 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 40-47. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 47-52 Nantucket, 52-60 South Coast, 61-70 elsewhere except 70-75 some interior locations of MA/NH. Wind SW 10-20 MPH.
MONDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 42-51. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY: Mostly sunny morning. Partly cloudy afternoon. Highs 48-60 South Coast, coolest Nantucket and Cape Cod, 60-70 just inland from the South Coast and along the East Coast, 70-80 elsewhere. Wind SW 5-15 MPH but sea breeze possible East Coast.
WEDNESDAY: Variably cloudy. Chance of rain showers. Lows from the upper 40s to middle 50s. Highs from the upper 50s to middle 60s, cooler Cape Cod.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows from the upper 30s to middle 40s. Highs in the 50s.

DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 14-18)
Going with a weaker and faster disturbance with minimal shower threat April 14 along with slightly milder air. Fair and cooler behind this April 15. Quick warm-up April 16 (Easter for those celebrating) with dry weather followed by a shower threat. Fair, cooler April 17-18 based on current timing but many days away so lower confidence as always.

DAYS 11-15 (APRIL 19-23)
The indications are for an overall drier than normal pattern with variable temperatures not far from normal overall bu with possible large day-to-day variation.

      1. Must I point it out? This should have been easy.

        sea breeze possible East Coast.

Ok that’s 4 words, actually the main part is 2 words, but I see it as 1 CURSED WORD in the Spring. 😀

      1. Irony: Pet Shop Boys on my playlist today including the songs “West End Girls” and “Go West”.

Further irony: Yesterday I listened to the debut album from 1985 by the band Go West. 😉

        1. Hoping for no Sea Breeze’s in the spring….Cmon…That’s being the “King of Wishful Thinking” 🙂

  1. Thanks TK!

My crocuses are blooming nicely and the daffodils are getting ready to pop any time now. 🙂

    1. A lot of my crocuses bloomed weeks ago and somehow survived through the heavy snow. Others are just blooming. I have not known crocuses to be hardy. Hiasinths are just coming up and seeing some signs of tulips. I haven’t checked to see if daffodils are peeking through. This is later than Framingham. Even two years ago in February with all the snow, the daffodils were up and bloomed by now.

      1. Early flowers go, pretty much no matter what. And crocuses are amazing for being able to survive crushing snow.

        1. Not ever had mine survive in framingham. They grow the hardy type in Sutton apparently. Daffodils were easy survivors.

  2. Here I sit wondering if high temperatures might just over achieve today.
Why you ask? Well, we’re up to 54 degrees here in JP and it isn’t quite 10AM.

We shall see what happens. 😀

    1. This is only a preliminary call, but morning to early afternoon is my current idea.

  3. Thank you, TK.

Today is a spring beauty. The flowers are finally daring to bloom without fear of frost. The birds have cancelled their return trips to Mexico; until September, that is. My guess is that the bees will return by tomorrow. I still haven’t seen one this year. Next up, that delicate, light green color of leaves budding on the deciduous trees. It is definitely my favorite color of spring while it lasts.

      1. That’s an important caveat. Thanks for reminding me. Boston and coastal towns tend to have a narrower range in temperature, especially in the spring. Temps tend to be `capped’ during the day, often by the sea breeze, and at night there’s less cooling.

    1. Bees are out here. I was sitting outside at daughters and heard a commotion in the downspout. Two bees tumbled out together. I think they were twitterpating 😉

  4. Thanks TK. Spectacular day! The next two will feel like summer! At last, the pattern has changed.

    1. I see it being quite dry around here for the next 2 to 3 weeks along with some early shots of very warm weather (similar to the upcoming one) mixed with brief shots of leftover chill from Canada. We will have to watch for a sneaky few days of “ocean crud” if we nose a high across eastern Canada and it extends down a bit.

          1. We are still in drought mode. In the short term we’ve had a surplus. In the long term we continue to run a significant deficit.

We will also see some fire danger increase fairly rapidly over the next several days.

            1. SIL said sudbury behind his office building in Ashland is running but he has seen it a lot higher. Even with the liquid we have had, it started low so…

  5. Beautiful day today. Husband recovering from detached retina surgery last wk. So I have been running around with extra errands to do all week. It wasn’t much fun earlier in the week with cold and rainy weather. Looking forward to warmer weather for sure.

      1. Thank you, Vicki. It’s been rough – but sometimes I see other people with worse problems, you know? Grateful for the good things we have.

  6. Boston Logan sitting at 66 at least for a high today. Is today’s warmth a harbinger for continued overachieving temps these next 2 days? I think yes…

  7. Had a great day skiing yesterday at Killington, VT. It’s kind of hard to imagine with the weather here today, but they received 7″ of fresh snow overnight Friday into Sat AM thanks to some upsloping and we were skiing in powder conditions on some trails. Average 36” base with 130 of 155 trails open, along with many glades and natural snow trails. Temps were in the low 20’s near the summit…..mid-winter conditions that were far better than when we went there in January. They will be skiing well into May this year for sure. A few pictures…

Different world up there. Wish we had the chance to ski there again today with all this sunshine and mild temps! But regardless a good end to the ski season.

      1. Yes, that’s my son and daughter in those photos. My son’s first time on Outer Limits (the trail in the first photo). He’s all about doing the black diamonds now! No fear…

        1. Oh wow. I love it. My brothers were like that. I was happy with a gentle slope and lots of places to stop to look off into the distance at the view

      1. I didn’t even notice that. Their prediction for Sunday is wildly different. But I think they were the first to say 80 for Tuesday.

  8. Took awhile, but the sea breeze did kick in at least at the immediate coast late this afternoon. Logan down 12 degrees in 2 hours.

    1. This time of year you’ll see that when the gradient weakens as the atmosphere does the opposite of “decoupling”. The seabreeze, though usually short-lived, can come in very late, sometimes right around sunset.

  9. JJ…Ace and others. Suspect you are watching. I’m hoping for Rose. He was one of Macs favorites. But if Garcia, so be it.

  10. Hi Vicki… What an exciting finish to the 2017 Masters. I am glad Sergio finally won a major. I liked the sportsmanship that was shown between Sergio and Justin.

    1. They are great friends. I loved Sergio stopping to hug Justin’s mom and family.

Golf is truly an awesome sport ….one that makes you proud to have kids use as an example of sportsmanship

Three year old grand….Macs golfing buddy….predicted Sergio on Friday

  11. I agree, Vicki. I don’t watch a lot of golf on TV. But Sunday at the Masters is must.
    Today’s match was unbelievable drama.

Long term drought: Using Eric Fisher’s numbers graciously sent to me by JPD, I updated the figures and came up with:
    We are -25.42″ since 2012; -16.61″ since 2015; +3.09″ in 2017.

It seems a little ironic to have an elevated fire risk for tomorrow with a Flood Warning for the Taunton River in Middleborough. It was just three weeks ago that a grass fire jumped the Nemasket River near Middleborough High and was headed to our athletic fields. And now, the Nemasket River is near flood stage!

Good night, everyone, and enjoy a great, spring-like week!

  12. I will never forget Sergio as a 19 year old back in the 1999 PGA Championship hitting the shot from behind the tree and running up the fairway. What an amazing shot that was getting on the green from where he was. He gave Tiger a run for his money that day.

  13. I hope we have an encore performance in the final round of the U.S. Open in June as Dustin Johnson will be defending his title.

      1. I mentioned New Caledonia many times over the years in my tropical updates. Active area.

  14. Vicki – truthfully, gotta say, enough IS enough. Hoping and praying that the universe turns around for the better for us.
