Thursday Forecast

7:26AM

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 4-8)
A small area of high pressure allows a nice spring day today though the sun which starts out bright will fade during the day as high cloudiness moves in well in advance of a storm system heading this way. That storm will move in on Friday with wet weather developing. Then, upper level low pressure will hang around during the weekend and the start of next week with unsettled weather.
TODAY: Sunny start, then increasing clouds. Highs 58-66. Wind light variable becoming SE up to 10 MPH.
TONIGHT: Thickening overcast. Lows 44-53. Wind light SE.
FRIDAY: Overcast. Rain arrives west to east, may be heavy at times in the afternoon including a slight chance of thunderstorms. Highs 54-62. Wind SE 5-15 MPH except 10-20 MPH South Coast, higher gusts late-day.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Mainly cloudy. Occasional showers. Lows 47-55. Wind SE to S 5-15 MPH with higher gusts.
SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy to partly sunny. Chance of showers. Highs 56-62 South Coast, 62-70 elsewhere. Wind SE to S 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY: Mostly cloudy to partly sunny. Chance of showers. Lows 45-53. Highs 57-65.
MONDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of showers/drizzle. Lows 44-50. Highs 50-58.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 9-13)
Upper level low pressure may be very stubborn to move with additional unsettled weather and temperatures running on the cooler side of normal.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 14-18)
Blocking pattern may break down or shift to allow somewhat milder and drier weather, but low confidence in this outlook.

  1. If you’re a spring enthusiast looking for warmer weather and some sunshine on a more consistent basis than 1 or 2 days out of 10, good luck to at least mid month, maybe beyond.

    1. Spring enthusiasts should not expect consistent warmth in New England in the spring. It’s fairly rare. It’s far more common in early to mid autumn. 🙂

      1. Meh, I’ve seen better May’s. And probably worse. May 2005 comes to mind. This could be borderline that.

      2. I’m still having trouble understanding what the problem is. We seem to say it will be doom and gloom before the fact (NOT you TK) then looking back we say – wow nice weather.

This has been a lovely week. So we get rain tomorrow.

  2. It is what it is when it comes to weather. However, I would really like to see some decent weather Mother’s Day weekend as I will be on the Vineyard from Friday until Monday.

    1. I’ll work on it. And if I can’t get it done, may I come hold the umbrella for you 🙂

      1. Absolutely!!! I am sure we could find a nice little place that serves a lovely Sangria. 🙂

  3. So not necessarily the folks here, but the general population seems to think we’re going to see rain for a week, starting tomorrow.

    The reason?
    Two words: Weather apps.

    1. I think the general population thinks we have seen rain for a month without stopping. And you are probably right about weather apps. I read the forecasts from around the globe 🙂 that dr s provides. They don’t even look as negative as folks seem to think!

  4. It is interesting watching some of the day to day variances in the models with regards to the handling of the upper level low(s) in the medium and long range for the northeast.

  5. Not for nothing, but it was a BEAUTIFUL day today with way more sunshine
than I expected. The high clouds pretty much held off, at least in Eastern sections. 😀

    1. I’m surprised you thought that highly of today with a straight E wind all day. Granted it was a little warmer away from Logan, but the airport itself peaked out at only 55 and by the end of the day the E wind was sustained at around 20 MPH.

      1. I don’t give a Rat’s Ass about the facata airport. It was close
to 65 here. BEAUTIFUL day! It’s still 59 here.

        1. I was out without a jacket or sweatshirt or sweater.
Just in a tee shirt. 😀

          1. Btw, Even if it is quite cool, I am fine with it as long as it is SUNNY. Add clouds, rain/drizzle and
            then it is MISERABLE.

            1. Based on previous comments I’d never have thought you didn’t give a rat’s patoot about the airport. 😉

I did know that you can handle an east wind with sunshine much more so than with an overcast. You are going to highly dislike May 8-11 I do believe.

                1. Eh, not necessarily. We may end up with partial sun in parts of the region Saturday, high temps approaching 70 in a few locations, and several hours of sunshine on Sunday. There is also a chance that the orientation of the upper low is a little further north and west which would keep it a little milder and even set up the risk of some breaks in the cloud-cover.

              1. And here I thought it was a horses patoot. Either way always thought that was a fun description

  6. Soooo. Wonder has sun and a lightening cloud for derby day. Hopefully that lightning will hold off

    1. Those sites tend to focus on the extreme end if they need to put “something”. The reality is, there is a 50/50 shot of scattered showers and about a 1 in 4 chance of a thunderstorm sometime during the day, probably all before 5PM.

Wonder doesn’t do a great job explaining details. 🙂

      1. Thanks and I figure that but don’t have access to another source in that area…except you and if you don’t mind, can you hold them off until after 7:30ish

  7. As of today, the drought monitor indicates there area no longer any drought conditions in MA and NH, and only about 1/4 of the state of CT remains under drought conditions.

May 2017. Right on schedule. 😉

      1. We’ve already had several days of high fire danger, and some brush fire issues, so we were not without it. But now the danger is minimized by the wet pattern and the leaf-out of trees and other vegetation.

    1. Look at channel 5. This is another reason why people think it’s going to rain forever. Makes me think of the dog in Up. “squirrel? Squirrel? Shower? Shower?”

    1. Oh my goodness. I can’t wait to show my four year old grand. He walks around ina Kylo ren costume all of the time
