Tuesday Forecast

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 16-20)
High pressure will dominate the weather during the next 5 days with a big warm-up leading to some summer heat by Thursday, then a cold front cutting the temperature down by the end of the week, overall a very nice stretch of weather.
TODAY: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy. Highs 68-75. Wind W 5-15 MPH with higher gusts.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 52-57. Wind light SW.
WEDNESDAY: Partly to mostly sunny. Highs 68-75 Cape Cod, 76-83 elsewhere. Wind SW 10-20 MPH.
THURSDAY: Partly cloudy. Isolated to scattered afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms. Lows in the 60s. Highs from the middle 80s to lower 90s except middle 70s to lower 80s South Coast.
FRIDAY: Partly sunny. Lows from the middle 50s to lower 60s. Highs from the upper 60s to upper 70s, coolest South Coast.
SATURDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows from the upper 40s to middle 50s. Highs from the middle 60s to lower 70s, coolest East Coast.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 21-25)
A series of boundaries in the region will bring unsettled weather and changeable temperatures during this 5-day stretch.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 26-30)
The pattern during the 6-10 day period may continue here as well but confidence is low at this time.

  1. 10AM Logan is up to 68.

    How high will it go?

I “think” Eric predicted 76 on the 11PM Broadcast, IF I remember correctly.

Seems like that is a lock. We shall see.

  2. Logan is 71 at 11 AM.

About 4 hours or so of more heating to come.

Despite what was posted above, I still think Boston has a chance to overachieve
predicted highs today. As always, we shall see. It wouldn’t be the first time.
I suppose there could be enough residual moisture in the soil to retard that some,
but we had some decent drying yesterday. Again, time will tell. πŸ˜€

    1. I was only pointing out that it was far from a “lock”, as both of the now-casting models had temps falling short of that number.

        1. But still, there is a difference between saying
it IS a lock and it “seems” like a lock. πŸ˜€

  3. Beautiful day — finally — which should mean there should be nothing about which to complain. Haha. I was out doing yard work and only lasted about 30 minutes due to the incredible number of tiny black bugs swarming my head (black flies?). Need one of those hats with the mesh face covering in order to say out there. Bugs lead the series, 1-0.

  4. I’ve already heard a couple complaints that it’s too warm.

My advice was: get in your air conditioned car and set your GPS for San Diego. Bye!

    1. I’ll save any complaints until Thursday, and even at that it is for just one day. As much as I dislike HHH, one day is hardly going to get to me. All my house windows are now open for the season! πŸ™‚

  5. I’ll save this piece of TK advice. Laugh out loud, indeed:

“I’ve already heard a couple complaints that it’s too warm.

My advice was: get in your air conditioned car and set your GPS for San Diego. Bye!”

  6. If all of summer could be like what were having this week a day or two of humidity then a front comes through brings in dry air I will be very happy.

  7. Looking at the 850mb temps on the 12z EURO for Friday morning. (Hour 72)

Still 15C over southern New England.

It is going to be quite a mild to downright warm Thursday night.

    1. Indeed it is. TOO EARLY. Yes I know it happens now and then, but it
is still too early for this. Oh well, life in New England. πŸ˜€

btw, 2PM at Logan it is 77. Will it go up another degree? or shutter to think, 2?

      Interesting.

        1. Thanks Tom. Too tied up to look.

Over Achieving for certain and that has me worried
about Thursday. Is 95 in the cards for Thursday?????

          1. Perhaps ….. In my opinion, that first 90F day usually is not humid in May, with dps near or in the low 50s. This go around is destined to be more humid, with dps of perhaps 60 to 65F. So, low 90s with those dewpoints should have a lot of folks seeking A/C and have a similar heat index to 95F with a dew point in the low 50s.

        1. Mt washington’s summit temp is soaring by the hour. The airmass above is warming very quickly. That makes me think 80F is a possibility at 4pm at Logan.

2 things may hold it off. A thin veil of high cirrus slightly dimming the sun and a possible wind shift at Logan to a seabreeze.

          1. Cirrus? Nope. Very bright sun so I do not think
            that will affect things much.

            Re: Sea Breeze?
            At 3PM Logan:
Wind: from the Northwest at 13.8 gusting to 19.6 MPH (12 gusting to 17 KT)

Sea breeze appears doubtful, but NOTHING would surprise me at facata Logan. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

  8. Could we see the first heat wave of the season already should it hit 90 before the cold front arrives on Friday?? I believe highs are expected well into the 80s anyway.

    1. Or between 4 and 5. In the Summer, Logan’s high is often between 4 and 5.
Of course, not always. We shall see.

    1. I was trying to find another map and stumbled onto to this one.
I just booked marked this. It’s rather cool. One can choose various overlays
of other parameters, such as dew point, pressure, relative humidity, precip
and 24 hr MAX temp. Pretty cool. Try it out.

  9. Logan’s official high so far is 79. We’ll see if they touched 80 between obs.

Over-achieving today does not mean they will do so tomorrow, or the next day. There are too many factors that go into it. Logan, for example, can warm 2 or 4 degrees higher than expected if the wind is JUST so. 10 to 15 degrees further south for wind direction and it’s a different ball game. We’ll see how this plays out tomorrow. We are technically getting a boundary through here tonight which is, by definition, a warm front, but is really going to bring higher dew points in, though we won’t really notice it until Thursday.

      1. Thanks SAK. Clearly we overachieved by several degrees. It will be interesting if the same occurs tomorrow through Friday, if not the weekend as well.

  10. What a beautiful day today! Love weather like this. I wrapped up another semester of school today, and will move home to Wrentham tomorrow. One year to graduation πŸ™‚

  11. According to Eric, the highest dew points will be achieved moreso Thursday night into Friday.

  12. Yeah I agree with Eric. My timing is a little off. I’ve been everywhere but home today. Work, appointment, hospital visit, kitty-sitting, and now that I’m here I have laundry and have to haul trash, recycle, and yard waste bins up to the sidewalk. No down time! Forecast was rushed. HAHAHAHA
