Tuesday Forecast

Happy Independence Day!

DAYS 1-5 (JULY 4-8)
As advertised, high pressure provides fabulous weather for the USA’s birthday today, and then continues it tomorrow as well. After that, the high slips offshore and humidity returns Thursday. By Friday, an approaching trough and cold front from the west will bring the risk of showers and thunderstorms, though a few days away it is difficult to know timing and frequency of these. There are indications that the front will move along swiftly enough so that a drying trend takes place on Saturday.
TODAY – INDEPENDENCE DAY: Sunny to partly cloudy. Low humidity. Highs 77-85, coolest coast. Wind variable 5-15 MPH with sea breezes.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Evening temps in 70s. Overnight lows in 60s. Wind light variable.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Highs 75-83, coolest at the coast. Wind light variable with sea breezes.
THURSDAY: Partly cloudy. More humid. Lows in the 60s. Highs in the 80s except some 70s South Coast.
FRIDAY: Partly sunny. Chance of showers/thunderstorms. Lows from the middle 60s to lower 70s. Highs in the 80s, some 70s South Coast.
SATURDAY: Mostly cloudy with showers in the morning. Partly cloudy in the afternoon. Lows in the 60s. Highs from the upper 70s to middle 80s.

DAYS 6-10 (JULY 9-13)
Fair, dry weather July 9. Warm front brings clouds and a shower threat July 10. Higher humidity and a risk of a few showers/thunderstorms at times July 11-13.

DAYS 11-15 (JULY 14-18)
A trough to the west of the region early in the period brings humidity and a shower/thunderstorm risk before a flat ridge arrives with lower storm chances but more heat.

  1. I trended my forecasts tonight a lot drier on Saturday now. That means the next run of the models will slow the front down by 12 hours. πŸ˜‰

    1. Keep it drier. Zip-lining in Maine. Well, I’m watching. Nate is zipping. πŸ˜›

      1. Smart man and great fun

Are you heading to Boston today? Son and his girlfriend are going but he has to work till 3.

  2. Good morning and happy Independence Day.

Thank you, TK. A rather nice weekend you have given us

  3. Ocean Surface Temperatures.

I added the water temperature to this buoy map in RED for selected locations.

I think it is important to note that the water is warming up nicely to our South
and could possibly have an impact on any Tropical system that might want to
    come up the coast.

    Here it is:

    1. I believe water temps along the Maine coast are still in the 50s which I suppose is typical but I find it interesting that they haven’t reached at least 60F by now.

  4. As I said yesterday keep that system in the Atlantic over the fish as I will down in Virginia on vacation next week.

  5. This one is specifically for VICKI, but applies to all if interested.
At one point Vicki asked about a location online to post a PDF.

I am working on a new version of the weather app and had some trouble
displaying PDF websites. Rather than spend hours researches a solution, I tried
a short cut. I downloaded the PDF to my computer and then I uploaded the
PDF to IMGUR. Damned if it didn’t load.

Here is a PDF on the Global Wind Oscillation uploaded to IMGUR, so this
    is the link to Imgur:

    1. Great link. I had not seen this. I liked that some of the changes were credited. I had the sense of Adams in a few and could be quite wrong. I know he reacted when he read created equal and wondered if he were responsible for independent being removed. Of course, being my all time favorite Founder, I credit him with most everything πŸ™‚

Thank you and I hope you have a great day as well.

      1. πŸ™‚ Happy 4th Vicki!

        Madison is my favorite.

Adams spoke after Madison’s death of “the still small voice… that spoke the words of peace”

Of course JA and TJ both died on July 4, 1826 – the 50th anniversary of the Dec. of Ind.

        1. I will have to do more reading on Madison.

And Monroe on July 4, 1831. It is what I think of as a Godincidence. How amazing that three of our Founding Fathers died on the anniversary of our birth. For Adams and Jefferson to die the exact same day still gives me chills.

  6. Even though dewpoints are in the “comfortable” range (under 60) it still feels quite hot outside and especially in my house. With such light wind, there is no real ventilation. I still have to run my fan on high.

Not complaining…better than true HHH or cloudy/cool/damp. πŸ™‚

    1. Yup, My gradd, although not showing brown spots, is certainly showing
      signs of stress.

Not nearly as much rain the last 2 weeks as we were previously receiving.

Went fishing yesterday and the spot where I was catching a ton of bass
has now receded to the point that the bass are gone. Rocks are sticking
out of the water where I once was fishing. Has to have gone down 2 whole
      feet and thanks a lot.

      1. Our grass so far is doing fairly well considering we do not have an ounce of shade and the soil is sandy. I’ve had the irrigation system on a few times but just turned it on for odd day watering last night. I’m surprised I got away with not using it until now.

I have noticed water levels receding. It does not take long.

  7. Thank you, JPD, for letting me know a PDF can be uploaded to Imgur. It makes sense since it is an image. I just had not thought to try. Well done, sir!!!

Back when I had shared that I was asked to be family speaker at the Dana Farber memorial for those who had lost their battle with cancer in the past year, I believe it may have also been Dave who asked if I would share what I wrote. As a reminder, I did write the words, but knew I could never read them. Mac’s infusion nurse read them for us.

The link below is to what I wrote (if I uploaded it properly, that is). It is long so please on this day of celebration I understand if there simply is not time to read and truly only want to share just in case there is interest. I had an uncharacteristically, majorly sad day yesterday that seemed to come from nowhere. I think, with JPD’s help, this is Mac’s way of helping me work through it….by taking my own advice perhaps πŸ™‚

      1. Thanks, Dave. I struggled a ton with it and tossed it multiple times. I wanted to tell our story which is what was suggested but I really wanted to maybe share with the others attending who all have their own stories.

  8. JPDave will like this. After several days of 15-20c temps under sunny skies up in Kimmirut they now have their own crappy spring/summer weather with a south wind (their version our east wind) with temps around 2c!! Also a nice low cloud cover.

    http://www.kimmirutweather.com/

    1. What’s there to like????? πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Who on earth would live there? I’d go insane living there.

    1. Conditions might become less favorable for development in a few days, but as always we should watch. Lows crossing the Atlantic have an occasionally proven themselves to be stubborn.

  9. I’d like to report a theft. It goes by many names. Sometimes a FUKATATATATA, sometimes a #%#~|>]^<. Sometimes an ocean breeze. I think most on here know it as the east wind…or even the dreaded east wind.

OK….WHO STOLE IT AND WHERE DID YOU PUT IT???

  10. Something is missing with David Mugar stepping down from the pops. Clearly, I do not adapt well to change or perhaps it is a bit more

      1. And since I’m talking to myself, I’ll just continue.

So far there are many more patriotic songs than I recall in the past. I love it. And this sap tends to get teary through most.

      2. Tonight’s concert/fireworks not televised by WBZ or anyone else this year. CBS backed out of it. Not since the days of Arthur Fiedler that it wasn’t televised I believe.

        1. Bloomberg is carrying it. I had to search. I nearly had a meltdown. It is 604 on my verizon

              1. I don’t understand why another major network would not have picked it up. So sad that David stepped up and when he had to step away…in this city of the birth of the revolution ….a local network would not have stepped up.

                1. Another major network did pick it up – Bloomberg. They outbid everyone for the right to it on TV, the radio, and the web. Just because they are not an over-the-air network does not mean that they aren’t major.

                2. That is in correct. Eaton Vance is the investment firm that sponsored the pops this year. They owned Bloomberg and decided to have it there rather than cbs.

                3. It may be a major network in the sense you are discussion but everyone does not have access to it and that is a shame. Note I did say local —- in that one that folks with televisions can access. Bloomberg did a great job and I am not saying otherwise. Advertising for the change in viewing was also not as robust as it should have been. My opinion.

                4. And I am still dumbfounded that Mugar was not given credit for all he did when others were mentioned.

                5. Bloomberg is not owned by Eaton Vance.

Bloomberg is the one that paid for the broadcast last night – http://bostonpopsjuly4th.org/boston-pops-announces-highly-anticipated-news-about-july-4-celebration/

Also, to say that everyone does not have access to it it is not only incorrect, but the opposite. The fact that Bloomberg put it on the TV, radio, and streaming on the web and their mobile app meant it was available to more people around the world (and locally) than ever before.

                6. SAK before you beat this to death…can you please focus on this….”So sad that David stepped up and when he had to step away…in this city of the birth of the revolution ….a local network would not have stepped up.” I’m assuming you are aware that many of the older folks who have enjoyed this for decades thanks to David Mugar may not have access to devices, apps, etc. And for what it is worth, and as techy as I am, I detest watching anything on a device. It was a simple comment, SAK. Good grief.

  11. Keep the great camping weather coming coming.

Warm days, mild to briefly cool overnights, summer perfection.

  12. Survived the 17 hour Boston experience. Tiring, yes. But not as tiring as one would have expected. I’d do this again and again. This was year 28 for me, and I’ll be there every year until either the event is gone, or I am gone. πŸ˜›

Anyway, recovery day…consisting of unpacking the rest from yesterday, laundry, mowing my lawn, catching up on a few other odds and ends, doing some errands, and winding up at Hampton Beach this evening. πŸ˜‰ Recovery day? No, I just say it’s another day in my vacation week.

    Updating blog now… πŸ™‚

    1. Were you in the audience at the hatch shell or were you around and about Boston? I did enjoy your photos on FB. Son intended to view festivities after work – he works about 1/4 mile from the hatch shell. Not sure how close he was able to get.

      1. We arrive about 1/2 hour before security opens and are among the first 100 people in, but we set up in the lagoon area along the river bank, directly opposite the fireworks barges, rather than down in the oval by the hatch. There is a large screen set up we can see if we want, and we’re near one of the sound towers so we get full audio, and an unobstructed view of fireworks and all the scenery of the river area.

But during the day we do leave the spot a few times, particularly for a long journey into the North End of Boston where we stop at Pizzeria Regina.

This was my 28th year going in and my 25th making it a full day. 1990-1992 was a late-day trip in with friends and just getting a spot to watch fireworks. Starting in 1993, it’s been start to finish. πŸ˜‰

    2. I did see a shot of an alley. Looks to be taken from Fairfield looking N or NE
      paralleling Boylston.
