DAYS 1-5 (OCTOBER 2-6)
High pressure will remain dominant into Thursday with fair weather and a warming trend bringing back the feel of summer by midweek. A moisture-starved cold front will move across the region from Thursday night through Friday.
TODAY: Sunny. Highs 63-68 coast, 68-73 interior. Wind light variable with sea breezes.
TONIGHT: Clear. Lows 45-50 interior, 50-55 coast. Wind light variable.
TUESDAY: Sunny. Highs 65-70 coast, 70-75 interior. Wind light SE to S.
WEDNESDAY: Sunny. Lows in the 50s. Highs in the 70s to lower 80s, coolest coast.
THURSDAY: Partly cloudy. Chance of showers at night. Lows from the upper 50s to lower 60s. Highs from the middle 70s to lower 80s, coolest South Coast.
FRIDAY: Partly cloudy. Isolated showers. Lows from the upper 50s to lower 60s. Highs from the middle 60s to lower 70s.

DAYS 6-10 (OCTOBER 7-11)
The front that moves through late week will likely sit just south of the region Saturday then push back to the north during Sunday. This may result in some unsettled weather over the weekend but not looking for a wash-out of any kind at this time. A warm and somewhat humid period of weather October 9-10 with a risk of showers increasing again as a cold front approaches from the west. Current timing suggest this front pushing through for a cooler/drier end to the period.

DAYS 11-15 (OCTOBER 12-16)
Another period of mainly dry weather with a warming trend before a rain risk returns.

  8. My thoughts and prayers for the victims and their families. Gosh, it seems that every day there is another terrible thing happening in this world and my prayers keep building up.

    What is wrong with this world?!

    If we don’t destroy ourselves; Mother Nature will. (apologies to anyone else who might have said this quote).

  9. And onto other subjects – like the weather. Looking forward to the first snow. I know it’s early yet – but for those who like the snow – it’s time! 🙂

      1. Yes, kinda have to agree. Halloween, Thanksgiving. Snow wouldn’t be right. I guess with all the bad stuff going on I’m needing a little Christmas. 🙂

        1. Snow in October usually means very little snow for the upcoming winter. I have no idea what the “mechanics” are as to why, but it happens. See 2011-12 winter (9.3″) and previous seasons.

          1. Tis true. Isn’t always the case,but more often than not it is.

            Let’s wait until Thanksgiving for our first meaningful snow. 😀

            Although, I wouldn’t mind seeing an October occurrence or 2. 😀

  12. Speaking of snow in October last winter was the first time snow was recorded at Bradley International Airport in October we had above normal snowfall for the winter. All other October snowfalls recorded winter snowfall way below normal.

  13. The news from Las Vegas is horrific. And then to add to our misery, Tom Petty just passed away. Petty is one of my favorite musicians – a truly classic American rocker. When I lived in Europe I’d play his music (and also Mellencamp’s `Little Pink Houses’) on July 4th. I considered it so uniquely American.

    1. What the hell is going on with all of these musician deaths the last
      2 years. There have been a slew of them. Petty is younger than I am.

      Always loved Pettty. Never got a chance to see him live.

      Sad times for many reasons.

      1. I just heard on WEEI that the LAPD cannot confirm Petty is dead. Nevertheless, major news outlets (from CBS to Rolling Stone) have reported his death. Of course, I hope Tom Petty is still alive. But, if that’s the case then fake news is everywhere. I won’t be able to trust any source for truthful news.

          1. WaPo is reporting he is on life support. Not sure who to believe but suspect it is a horrific news day so will wait to see.

              1. What’s crazy is that people like Cheryl Crowe and others are tweeting about his passing before it’s been confirmed. They, like me, relied on normally reliable news sources. I am seeing more and more sources reporting his death in the last 10 minutes or so (includes Huffington, USA Today, and others). I don’t know what or who to believe. BBC has not reported Petty’s death. If BBC reports it we’ll know for sure, because their rule before reporting any news item is to have verifiable information from at least two sources.

                1. Agree re BBC. It is one of my go to. CSM also. I’ll just excuse this,,,which really isn’t excusible..as focus being on the horror in Las Vegas. Maybe that isn’t right but …

  14. Actually what happened with DAYS 11-15 was that there was an old line, part of a new line, and a line that was inadvertently deleted when someone interrupted me. Did not catch the mis-fire, and it got posted that way. It has since been corrected. 🙂

  15. What has happened in Vegas is a continuation of Mass shootings and its just sadly getting worse. It is an extremely sad situation

  16. The shear horror of hundreds of people being shot down by a sea of bullets in a matter of minutes…. Most in the military haven’t even seen that kind of thing on the battlefield in our wars of the modern era.

    1. all of these were semi automatic weapons which where altered to automatic, tells you how easy it is to change them and how easy it is to build up ammo.

  17. TMZ reported that Tom Petty went into cardiac arrest yesterday and was found unconscious with a weak pulse. At the hospital they found no brain activity and pulled life support. Regardless what report you believe, his condition appears grave.

    1. An awful day all around. One of those days that you simply cannot focus on anything and you pray we can find a way.

    2. From TMZ late Mon PM: “Sources tell us at 10:30 Monday morning a chaplain was called to Tom’s hospital room. We’re told the family has a do not resuscitate order on Tom. The singer is not expected to live throughout the day, but he’s still clinging to life.”

TK, still hoping to go hiking in the Whites on Saturday however what initially looked like a decent start to the Columbus day weekend up there now looks to be in question as it appears a storm moving to the west across the great lakes may pull a warm front through with some showers up there by Sat PM. I have the option to go Sunday instead but looks like additional shower threats that day as well as we get into a moist southerly flow. Any thoughts on how this may play out?

    1. It’s a toss up but I’m not expecting anything resembling a wash-out either weekend day. I’d keep Saturday plans for now.

    Interesting little feature on the EURO traveling up the east coast, from the Gulf of Mexico and cutting through New England, at least on the 00z run.

  22. I hope people haven’t taken out the A/C window units yet.

    That medium range looks like it might feature a couple days with dewpoints back into the 60s and maybe approaching that 70F mark.

      1. Have you overseeded yet, Ace? We (I use that term loosely as it didn’t involve me other than programming watering) started with some areas last weekend.

  23. Relative to its previous 2 runs, 12z EURO doing a little something with tropical disturbance coming out of the Caribbean and into the Gulf. Projected pressure of 991 mb at 96 hrs.

      1. darned faculty meeting. Id like to see this run finish.

        Trof at 120 hrs reloading in the intermountain west with ridge in the east.
