If the 12z runs of the American models are correct big time dent into the rainfall deficits we have had this fall and in some places maybe a surplus.

  3. Thanks, TK…

Is that a squall line coming through on the latest GFS at around 10 pm Tuesday night?
I had NECN on earlier and really wasn’t paying attention, but I think Tim Kelley was talking thunderstorms and high coastal winds Tuesday night into Wednesday.

    Anyone want to weigh in?

Enjoy another jewel of a day!
Go Pats in Super Bowl LIS (51.5)

  4. Thanks TK! Enjoy your day in NH, another beauty today!

I’m keeping a close eye on what looks to be an active Tuesday-Wednesday period. Three concerns for me. One is the heavy rain threat. We’re in drought, so rivers are low and can handle plenty of rain, and in fact could really use some rain. The concern would be more of an urban flash flooding threat. A lot of this will depend on the speed of the front. If it keeps moving, we’ll be fine. If it gets hung up, we could see some training showers/storms which could lead to problems, especially if a weak wave of low pressure develops and rides up along the front early Wednesday.

Second concern is the winds. Very strong low level jet comes through late Tuesday into early Wednesday. Any convection in particular could help mix that down. Gusts of 35-45mph look likely with localized higher values possible. Renewed threat to take a few trees down with many still fully leafed. Third concern, which partly blends with the second, is severe weather potential. As JJ said, SPC has much of the area in a Marginal Risk Tuesday. If any particularly strong storms develop, they could mix more of that LLJ down and possibly reach severe limits. Once in a blue moon, a setup like this can produce a tornado as well. It bears some similarities to a couple events I looked at in my summer research project. One issue I see though is that the wind fields, while strong, may not have enough turning with height to make this a real concern. Maybe a slightly better chance to our southwest Tuesday PM. But it’s something I’m watching.

  5. With those wind gusts you mentioned and trees that still are fully leafed we could be looking as some scattered power outages.

No, wait, on second thought: you would not want to see that. That WOULD be scary.

Cora is a good move. He’s young and can relate well to the core group of players the Sox have. He’s experienced a meteoric rise in talent and fortune with the Houston Astros. That will help him shape the Sox as a team. For successful managers, it’s a “vision thing” in baseball, not so much the daily strategy (though almost anyone would be better than Farrell in in-game management).

    1. I had my doubts when they said explayer. Sure did not work for Ted Williams. But Cora seems to have proven results so will be interesting. I may have to get back into the sport.

      1. I hear what you’re saying, but Ted Williams was never given the right “ingredients,” to paraphrase Bill Parcells. Cora’s got the ingredients, at least most of them.

        1. Ted always blamed himself. He had trouble not being able to accept that everyone was not as good as he was. And he was demanding. He meant well. He adored frank Howard. My mom and I got to go to dinner with Ted and him. And there was a pitcher I had a crush on and I’m sad to say o cannot recall his name that I got to go with Ted to dinner with also.

European weather map is interesting as most of the European side of Russia is experiencing a relatively cold snap. Moscow’s barely getting to 35F during the day. Parts of Eastern Europe are also enduring colder than average temperatures.

  12. Pats just laid down their best half of the season. Defense in particular just totally different. Contesting passes. Physical. Can’t let off the gas though.

  13. Patriots team overall was much better, especially defense, a few weeks of no Eric Rowe really helped!! Cut Gilmore’s pay check in half and give it to Butler or get rid of him. Rowe just get his but out of a patriots uniform. I hate rowe the most but not a fan of gilmore either. I will be extremely mad with Bill if he lets Butler go. We lost Ryan as he was not willing to pay the best tackler on the defense.
