Saturday Forecast

8:18AM

On this Veterans Day I would like to thank all that have served in the armed forces to protect our freedom!

DAYS 1-5 (NOVEMBER 11-15)
Discussion…
Dress for winter temperatures if you are heading out to any Veterans Day ceremonies this morning and early afternoon. The most harsh will be this morning as temperatures climb through the 20s and the wind still remains gusty, but midday and beyond will be less so as we recover into the 30s with less wind. There will be 100% sunshine at least. High pressure moves right overhead tonight and this will prompt temperatures to fall all over again due to radiational cooling. As that happens a slight increase in the moisture in the air will cause frost to form, so anybody heading out to drive early Sunday may have to deal with scraping ice or waiting for the vehicle’s defrost system to melt it. A combination of increasing moisture from the south and an approaching disturbance from the west will increase the cloud cover and moderate the temperature on Sunday. The disturbance, though weak as it approaches and moves through during Monday, will begin to intensify offshore as it moves away, and just enough cold air will be around for some minor snow accumulation in the higher elevations of central MA and southwestern NH by Monday evening. Fair weather is expected Tuesday between this system and the next approaching disturbance which will return more clouds to the region by Wednesday and possibly some light rain by Wednesday night, based on current timing and the thought that it will be a little milder going into the midweek system.
Forecast details…
TODAY: Sunny. Highs 34-42, mildest Cape Cod. Wind NW 10-20 MPH and gusty early, diminishing during the day.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy. Lows 12-17 interior valleys, 18-25 elsewhere. Wind calm.
SUNDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 38-44. Wind light W morning, light S afternoon.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Lows 33-38. Wind light variable.
MONDAY: Cloudy. Chance of light rain at times, may mix with and turn to snow higher elevations north central MA and southwestern NH late. Highs 38-45. Wind NE 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY: Partly sunny. Lows from the upper 20s to middle 30s. Highs in the 40s.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy. Chance of light rain late. Lows in the 30s. Highs in the 40s.

DAYS 6-10 (NOVEMBER 16-20)
Small low pressure system intensifies while departing Thursday November 16 which should turn out dry/breezy/cool. High pressure should bring fair weather Friday November 17 but clouds may be increasing ahead of next low pressure system which brings unsettled weather to start then windy and drying later in the November 18-19 weekend with fair and chilly weather for November 20.

DAYS 11-15 (NOVEMBER 21-25)
A blocking pattern develops with high pressure over Greenland and this forces the jet stream to the south. So far it looks like it will not amplify enough for major storminess during Thanksgiving Week but something to watch.

    1. Yes, but the wind will be slowly relaxing as the day goes on. By sunset it should be nearly calm.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK.

We only made it to 21.2 here as I fully expected teens. Oh well.
Boston at least tied yesterday’s record low with 25 at 11PM. It may have slipped below
that before midnight for a new record. Likely tied or broke the record for today.
    Anyone with the figures?

    Thanks

    1. Logan hit 23 this morning for a new record and yesterday established a new record low of 24 beating the old record of 25 set in 2004.

We can also have a record low high today of 38 set in 1987! Records falling all over the place. πŸ˜€

            1. NWS web page is one of the best for anything. They have headlines at the top for records, etc. And if not they have an option for statements in the main menu where you can find everything.

  2. A bit chilly for my daughters u8 girls soccer game. The league recommended we cancel but that’s not how we roll in Natick! Time to lay the smack down on Winchester .

    1. I agree, no need to cancel. The girls will be more than warm enough running up and down the field and the fans can just bundle up. Good luck!

    1. I get the impression ski areas do well this winter. I assume though that Mt. Wauchusett will be “making” snow for awhile yet.

      1. im just a bit skeptical, as I see the Rockies are doing very well, when that happens, generally New England has a down year. Just a gut feeling. No repeat of 2012 but i think it will be variable depending on the location of the MTN.

        1. Don’t ignore the significant snowcover very far south in eastern Canada. That is likely going to impact the pattern for a while.

  3. Wind?? I must be living in the Charley Hole for wind today. It’s been basically calm all morning since I got up around 7. Interesting.

    1. No shortage of wind here. Very surprising assuming you are located on the South Shore. I always picture that area as one of the windiest, if anything.

      1. It is very weird and we are located a little higher than the surrounding area (maybe 40-50 ft higher than Hingham Harbor, etc.

        1. I seriously hope your joking.
Snow making has very little impact to the environment.
Snow making tech these days are so sufficient, they do not need to run more than a few hours to get a base of snow down. This snow making happened in 2 days shows how efficient they are
Snow making might be the only way skiing survives Human caused climate change.

          1. It was a joke, hence the πŸ˜‰ emoji.

Hypothetically speaking, I’d think if it is too warm to snow in ski areas it would also be too warm to make snow. We just have the ability to control the timing of the snowfall when we make it ourselves. πŸ™‚

              1. Even 40 doesn’t allow for much considering it can snow naturally with surface temperatures up to or even over 40 in some cases. And yes I think adding chemicals would have been a great idea – NOT! πŸ˜‰

              2. chemicals would not be a good idea due to change of water chemistry for the rest of the year. With general snow making allows water to go back into the natural cycle.

  4. This is a weird question, but has anyone been to Sweden before? If so how is it there? Curious as i attended a talk at my school about the pivotal role of biotic interactions for effects of environmental change. The professor was from Sweden One of the grad students in the lab I am working in brought him over to me right as I was about to leave, He asked about my project and then said he was looking for Grad students for his lab and told me to think about it and get back to him.

    1. Mac lived there from ages 2-8. It is one of the places I’d most like to visit. I have a friend in NYC whose parents are still in Sweden. They were close family friends of Macs family. I know she would be happy to speak with you. Joshua would be a good resource also I think. Sounds like a great opportunity

  5. Logan broke a record today yet again for a low high of 37 (38 in 1987) and has a decent shot of another record low for tomorrow (25 in 1926). We will see what happens overnight as Boston temps are forecast for the mid-20’s.

      1. Overnight low for Logan was 29 I believe so no record by 4 degrees. Still a very cold airmass for November nevertheless.

            1. I suspect most neighborhoods made it to the low 20’s but, of course Logan has to be our climo representative. πŸ˜‰

              1. Yup. It disgusts me. Even my wife thinks it’s Loony and should be at the Boston Common at least. πŸ˜€

  6. I just noticed Xfinity has taken away the Weatherscan channel. I’m not sure why they would take this away? I thought this was a good resource for people especially those who don’t access it with apps on their phone, etc. I’m not in that camp, but my parents and in-laws used it.
