Monday Forecast

7:44AM

DAYS 1-5 (FEBRUARY 5-9)
High pressure moves in today and hangs around through Tuesday. A storm moves rapidly into the region Wednesday before cold air has a chance to fully exit, and therefore will start as snow. A change to rain will occur in parts of the region with current thinking based on expected track of storm that the rain/snow line will move somewhere into the I-95 or I-495 belts north of Boston. This storm exits by early Thursday and the next disturbance is already on the way by late Friday. Forecast details…
TODAY: Partly cloudy to mostly sunny. Highs 35-42. Wind NW increasing to 15-25 MPH with higher gusts.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear to variably cloudy. Lows 12-18. Wind NW diminishing to under 10 MPH.
TUESDAY: Mostly cloudy to partly sunny. Highs 32-38. Wind light W to SW.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Increasing clouds. Lows 22-28. Wind light variable.
WEDNESDAY: Overcast. Snow arriving, changing to rain southern areas later in the day. Several inches of snow accumulation probable. Highs 28-35 north, 35-42 south. Wind E 5-15 MPH, higher gusts.
THURSDAY: Clearing. Lows in the 20s. Highs in the 30s.
FRIDAY: Increasing clouds. Lows in the 20s. Highs in the 30s.

DAYS 6-10 (FEBRUARY 10-14)
Additional unsettled weather for at least part of the February 10-11 weekend and another system may follow that. Too early for a rain/snow determination.

DAYS 11-15 (FEBRUARY 15-19)
Quieter and somewhat colder period of weather expected here.

  1. Thank you, TK. How is travel looking Wednesday from southern Maine seacoast to Montpelier VT area? Thank you.

  2. I am assuming the I-95 belt is the old 128. AFAIC that I-95 designation is just as stupid as Logan stats represent Boston neighborhoods.

For us old timers here, any chance 128 could be used here instead? πŸ™‚

Does the 128 signage still exist anywhere on that road? Just wondering.

    1. I95 belt to me means just that. Draw a line from providence through Boston
with I95. That is it. If anyone means something else, then
      it should be spelled explicitly.

Here is what I mean and this is ONLY what I95 corridor means to me.
How the bleep could it mean anything else????????????????????????

      https://imgur.com/a/c1GQx

    2. I will always think of it as 128, although am used to it being called 95 now. My kids know both since they hear me use 128. MassBay of course is correct that 95 splits off and heads to Maine/NH seacoast and 128 continues to the north shore.

What truly confuses me is coming north on rt 3 where it goes to 95 north and 93 north (or is it south) and then 93 just ends. As you can see from my description, I have yet to figure that one out. I think at one point it is three roads (93/95/3) but am not positive. Our south shore folks would know better.

      1. I understand that. But still, look at my map. I draw a line
from Canton/Westwood where the true 95 joins the once
128 and then connect to the true 95 North of Boston.

That defines the I95 Corridor, period. Simple. Anything else makes no sense whatsoever. And on this I will NOT budge. I am as stubborn as a Mule.

If one means the old 128 and then say 128 for Crying Out loud.

        1. Here is more. Look at the I95 Line here.

          http://i95coalition.org/the-coalition-2/i-95-facts/

Once upon a time I95 was coming through the city.
In fact, the current T Orange line runs through JP
in what was to be I95. So technically, my house is
N&W of the I95 corridor by about 1 mile or so. πŸ˜€
Seriously the neighborhoods of Boston came together
to KILL I95 through the city.

That is part of the reason that I draw that line right
through the city and that is the I95 corridor. πŸ˜€

        2. Very confusing at Canton-ish area. esp to outsiders. 128 south/95 south becomes 128 south/93 north and splits off onto 3 south toward Cape at Braintree.
95 turns due south for RI.

          Bizzaro πŸ™‚

It is one of the reasons I prefer a hard copy map to GPS instructions.

          1. There ya go. I knew I was explaining it all wrong.

Daughter and family plan to drive south to Disney via Charleston and a few other stops in summer. My best advice was to get the AAA trip tickets to complement the GPS. I absolutely agree with your comment on hard copy maps.

        3. I do mean the old 128…but I’m not sure if you and I are thinking differently about the definition of that. I think of it as running from Braintree split up and past Woburn/Wilmington, etc. Sort of an arc.

          1. True that. IF we are talking about 128, you
are 100% correct. But no one is telling me
that 128 is the I95 corridor. It defies logic.

But then there is the old old rt. 128. Does anyone
remember that? I sure do. πŸ˜€

              1. Awesome article. I do remember the old 128. I raced on it often enough πŸ˜‰ Along with Rt 2 which I remember as hard packed dirt and then, as I seem to recall, a single lane in both directions as we drove to Concord.

            1. I find this whole conversation so funny, because as an under 25 Boston area resident I have no idea what 128 was/is. My dad, who’s lived here forever, has explained it to me a hundred times, but I can never figure it out.

I think in terms of 90, 93, 95, and 495, and am very thankful for GPS πŸ™‚

  3. Good morning on this Post- Apocalyptic Monday.

Thank you TK for the details forecast. Several inches of snow? Hmmm

A couple of comments on that:

    1. CMC and now the GFS are quite bullish on the snow. Gets rain close to or briefly
    into Boston.
    2. Euro and NAM, not so much with only about 2 inches for Boston.
    3. So far the SREF isn’t buying much, perhaps an inch in Bos

Waiting on the 12Z runs to see if there are changes or if there is now some better
consensus. But it sure looks to be an interesting day come Wednesday. πŸ˜€

    re: the game

    Just couple of brief comments:

    1. The Pats offense did enough. Brady passed for 505 yards! Could it have squeezed out a little more? Perhaps, but 33 points should have done the job. (See #2)
    2. The defense just could not handle the Eagles. Kudos to the Eagles. The Pats
need to bolster the “D” if they ever expect to win the SB again.
    3. Why in the world was Butler not playing? This one is on BB. This is INSANE.
I suppose we’ll find out, but the outcome of this game “could” have been different
had Butler played. And even with this I am not completely bullshit. Puzzled is more
    like it.

Oh well, onto the weather. EXCITED about Wednesday. A little more drift to the S&E and we are totally in business. Pretty decent business day regardless. πŸ˜€

    1. All sorts of rumor flying as to Butler. One is he had flu earlier in week. Another is he missed flight, but I think people may be getting that from links dating back in 2015 and thinking it was this year. It is tough not to play someone who is key, but if (and it is a big if) he did something that went against the team, BB does not bend on that. To me…and others may certainly disagree….it is why they are a true team. No dissing opponents. No excuses. Simple teamwork.

All in all, we were simply outplayed…but still nothing to ever be ashamed of. And their QB was rock solid. Ours…had some struggles.

      1. Ours had struggles? He threw for 505 yards. Let that sink in
for a moment. The Only thing I noticed was that he tossed a couple of passes that did NOT have the normal Brady accuracy.
Other than that, how could you find fault with a guy who threw for
that many yards, in a Super Bowl no less.

Now, the Pats Defense, they absolutely struggled. One could say
they SUCKED big time. That is why they lost. πŸ˜€

        1. No….our QB had “some” struggles….the ones that didn’t “have the normal Brady accuracy.” Theirs did not seem to have any. I thought it was curious that both teams used the same pass/pass/pass to QB routine. That said….the QBs were not the main reason which is why I started my sentence with an “And.” We were simply outplayed by another excellent team.

If you subtract the one TD that was a gift, Eagles still win but not by much. Even with the existing scores, there is nothing to hang our heads about.

          1. We agree to disagree. πŸ˜€
I would never say that a QB who threw for 505 yards in a game had struggles. Sorry.

            Onto Cleveland.

            Onto Wednesday. πŸ˜€

            1. They struggled on 3rd down. There were 20+ yard passes on 1st and 2nd downs but when they really needed it on 3rd down to keep the chains moving or a play to get into the end zone, that play wasn’t had

                1. Passes covering large chunks of yardage putting them in positions to not have the option to punt. Instead they miss field goals and get strip sacked and turnover on downs.

  4. 12Z NAM still insists on riding the next system up N&W of the Boston area.
Waiting on a few more frames for snow totals.

    1. The problem is, they have very little draft picks this year due to various reasons (penalty from deflategate and trading high picks for guys who either aren’t with the team anymore (Kony Ealy), didn’t play in the SB (Mike Gilleslee), or had a so-so season and got himself hurt in the SB (Brandin Cooks)

  5. I think next years Pats team will look much different than this years, and not just the changes we know are coming. An era ended last night. I think this game proved that Brady > Belichick, and that the much talked about ESPN article on discord within the organization was by and large true. BB was willing to intentionally sink his team for his ego. I wouldn’t mind if he’s not back next year. Might be time for a fresh start.

Weather… Wednesday… current thinking is a similar idea to yesterday’s system, but this one is a little colder with snow/mix figuring to factor in for most areas. Heaviest snow looks to be north of the MA border, and rain/mix will definitely factor in especially south of the Pike. It’s a progressive and not very strong storm but with decent moisture. I think most areas in SNE come in under 6″, but there’s room for up to that number and more the farther north you go. Biggest impact may be on the Wednesday PM commute if the timing is quick enough.

  6. 12Z NAM Kuchera Snow. Sort of in line with what WxWatcher just posted above.

  7. If Josh turns Down Indianapolis it will probably be because he will be Bills replacement if not this year than next . I would wager on not this year but next . Just a thought but it makes perfect sense he knows the system and his family loves it here . Just something to think about if he declines Indy Job. Incredible game one of the best I’ve seen with so many missed opportunities but still down to the wire .

    1. I agree totally. If NOT this year, then soon enough to keep Josh around.
If he does NOT take the Indy job, likely that would have been his last shot.
So if he turns it down, then it HAS to be that he has been assured the head
coaching job for the Patriots and sooner rather than later.

      1. I actually think this would be the best outcome for the owners , Brady and Josh himself . I always thought Tom & bill would ride of into the sun set together but now I’m not so sure . Brady has put it out there & especially this week he wants to play into his mid 40’s not early 40s mid . The way he takes care of himself , and his fire passion for the game if he gets the protection & stays healthy on & off the field I believe this . McDaniels would definitely keep this organization in good shape . I’m not worried about Kraft because his son can run this organization no problem as he already is . That’s it but think about it .

      1. Something like that, but because of a change to rain,
there would not be 6 inches left on the ground. More like
4 or 5, imho. We shall see.

Now waiting on CMC, but more so the Euro.

  8. My two cents on Butler is that when our D couldn’t hold them Butler should have been put in – period. The most important responsibility the team has is not to BB or to TB or even to the team itself – it’s to the fans. Ask any fan and I would guess most would have wanted him to be put in – at least in the 4Q.
I don’t agree with Belichick’s claim here that he put in the best group to win the game. I also don’t agree that being a legendary coach is entirely based on your win-loss record. The more time that goes on, the more repulsed I become with his rudeness, arrogance and his obvious disrespect for the people who gave him every single thing that he has – namely the fans of New England. In order to be a legend I believe you must be a great person. To be a great person warmth and kindness and forgiveness and generosity of spirit matter – not just β€œgetting the job done.” In this case he succeeded at neither.

  9. I would expect some sort of winter weather alert go up for interior areas sometime in the next 24 hours.

  10. Decent NWS write-up re: Wednesday system

Probably a Winter Storm Watch North of Rt. 2, Winter Weather advisory in
a Zone S& E of that to a point just South of Boston. These are my thoughts based
on reading it. We shall see.

One excerpt I find interesting considering our discussion of the SE ridge:

High pressure over the Bahamas will help steer developing surface low up towards the
Appalachian mountain spine towards southern New England.

    Here it is:

  11. I am now hearing that Butler was found with weed on Thursday. Heard from a friend who was there, saying that was the rumor going around that city, for two days.

    1. Makes zero sense. If that were the case, they would have made the decision on Thursday to not play him. They told him shortly before the game. Doesn’t add up.

      1. i know nothing is adding up, but Butler is almost garanteed to be let go. Lewis is also looking at free agency

    2. Interesting. Geez, how could Butler let that happen? If he wanted to do so, fine, just don’t let any team official see or catch you.

He certainly wouldn’t be the first player in any organized sport who smoked weed. Would he have been suspended if he had too much to drink one night?
(Presuming it was NOT the night before a game)
If he smoked some weed a few days before the game, big bleepity bleep bleepin
deal. No different than having some beers with the guys. As long as he didn’t get totally wasted the day/night before the big game.

So, I still don’t get it. Did he stumble into the Minneapolis Police department
      dazed and confused????

Still a mystery to me as to what happened. I am most curious to know.
      Hope we get to know.

        1. No I think your right butler was benched for something that happened and he knows why in my opinion . I did hear him say just last week he wanted to stay with the pats . He did something that got him kicked out of the big game we may never know

          1. Yep. Meanwhile, We can take a page out of BB’s book, stop looking for what coulda been and simply accept what is and that we lost to a better team. It truly was a great game.

            1. Indeed it was even with Missed chances it was down to the wire . I’m down but I’m fine . You can’t win them all .

  12. 4 keys to the game:

    1. Brady drops a perfect pass. (Giselle could have caught it)
    2. Pats waste 1st timeout early second half.
    3. BADemosi (’nuff said)
    4. Brady doesn’t take sack.

    1. Bademosi was not the worse player in the backfield, that tittle of bad = Rowe who should never of been in. Bademosi would never of been in if Butler was in, He was not planning on that.

      1. BADemosi had a chance to stop Eagle receiver on 3rd down a couple yards before the sticks but failed to make the tackle. It was a key play that kept yet another Philadelphia drive alive. IIRC it led to a TD.

  13. The weather pattern looks to remain very active beyond Wednesday. Continuing to get systems every 2-3 days. None of them are clear cut snow opportunities. Rain/mix figure to be involved with all of them in some capacity. The SE Ridge is here and here to stay. Ultimately, I think the determinant on whether any of these systems come with more snow/mix as opposed to rain will be whether or not there is high pressure to our north. If we get a system “squeezed” between the SE Ridge and a good polar high, you can get wintry outcomes with that. Wednesday is a partial example, though the SE Ridge will at least have the upper hand on that one as well. Each system going forward will have to be evaluated this way though, as to whether a high to the north, if any, can hold in enough cold to beat the SE Ridge induced warmth.

We’re not going to see any “classics” though, big Nor’easters with an East Coast trough. Not the pattern. No extreme cold either.

  14. It was the worst defensive performance (both teams) I have ever seen in a Superbowl. Really bad and an indictment of this league, in my view, regarding (lack of) fundamentals of the defensive game. I like offense, But I don’t want to watch a practice scrimmage when it comes to defense. Eagles were mostly soft on coverage, which we sort of knew they would be going into the game, though I never thought they’d be this soft. They also had very little punch in their supposed big front 4. Patriots were just plain awful: bad tackling, horrible coverage, no pressure on Foles, and no stops when they needed one.

    1. The league wants offense. The rules put in place over the last 10 or so years favor offenses and limit what the defenses can do (yes I understand this is party due to player safety). This I believe is the biggest factor allowing Brady to play into his 40’s. I know he takes care of his body and eats avocado toast, but that’s a small part of it. You just cant hit the QB anymore and any offensive player for that matter like you used to back in previous eras. If Brady played in those times, I don’t care how well he took care of his body, he wouldn’t make it past 35. And he wouldn’t have been considered the GOAT

  15. I stand corrected on TD. It was indeed the correct call. Once he changed to s runner, he just needed to cross the plain. Or is it plane πŸ˜‰

As far as butler. We have always supported BB as a disciplinarian

We cannot change that view because it means it might make a difference.

And I think I’m done. Just passing time while waiting for dr.

  16. At lunch, much of the radio talk centered around Butler being caught in a team
rules violation regarding use of Marijuana (like reported by Matt).

Christian Fourier stated that he “should” have been sent home, but Management
kept him around for insurance in case on of the other DBs got injured.

    Who the bleep knows.

My wife and I floated another theory. BB was so pissed off at the deal Kraft and TB12 made to ship Garoppolo out of town that he pulled a classic Passive Aggressive “Gotcha”. I wouldn’t put it past that crazy loon.

    1. I just want to KNOW exactly what this was all about.
If Butler screwed up, it is most unfortunate and very sad. BUT BB emphatically states that it was NOT for disciplinary reasons. He’s a lying sack of shit.

      1. I do not agree. We have no idea what Butler did. We cannot and should not speculate. We do know that BB has a strict discipline rule. It sets us apart and above many other teams.

So what are we saying? He can let that rule go for a win no matter what Butler did? What message does that send? Tens of guys are held to the rule and one is not? The game is more important than ethics?

        1. I guess what I’m saying is, why be disingenuous. Why not just tell the truth. If Butler screwed up, the parties involved should own up to it instead of trying to cover it up. That’s the ethical thing to do…

          1. I could agree, except since we do not know the reason, don’t you think it is impossible to form any worthwhile opinion? If, for instance, he is trying to protect Butler, I would give him credit.

Bottom line……we do not know so we cannot have any accurate input.

              1. As a Religious friend of our always says: It’s a mystery.

Although I do not share the same religious views, I concur about
                it being a mystery.

              2. Oh but meaning of life was a focus of the comments I made at Mac’s memorial πŸ™‚

And that really is apples and oranges. I don’t judge life. We are judging BB.

    2. IF the radio theories are true, then Belichick is doing Butler a favor by not releasing that reason to the public. I would think that could cost Butler big time in contract talks with any team. Instead, Belichick is taking the heat because the other popular theory is theory is that Bill showed everyone who is in charge, despite something small.

      1. And the truth shall set you free! I see what you’re saying, but you and I both know the truth will come out at some point and everyone will look like fools. Butler for doing what he did (if that’s the case) and Bill for lying through his teeth whether its for a good cause. Fans aren’t stupid, we want to know, and I’m sure the ownership of Butler’s next team would want to know too.

  17. I was just looking at the 2018 Pats schedule. Teams announced, no dates yet.

NFC division they are playing includes Packers and Vikings, at home ……. Bears and Lions (thanksgiving Day ?????????) away.

  18. Well, for what it’s worth….lungs have cleared. I don’t mind saying that since Mac started with something in lower lung, it made me nervous when that was the diagnosis, even though I tried not to let it. Ears are full of fluid so my hearing is still shot but that too shall pass. Good news overall and I thank everyone for their well wishes and caution to be careful.

  19. As for football, we’re blessed in this town to have really, really good teams. Problem is we’re kind of spoiled, too. The winning is everything mentality has always bothered me, since I was a kid. I enjoy sports for the sake of the sport involved, the entertainment value, and yes having very competitive teams that contend year in and year out makes it even more entertaining. But, I’m not at all bothered by a Superbowl loss, particularly if `my’ team is a perennial winner.

I just heard Rob Ninkovich say that players don’t care that they’ve won the AFC Championship. The only thing that matters is winning the Superbowl. I must say I’m taken aback by statements like this. This may be true, but I sure hope it’s not. I would hope that players can put things into perspective, ESPECIALLY Patriots’ players, many of whom have won a Superbowl or two. Sure, one is disappointed, but I think that moving on from a loss like this is vitally important. You want to give it everything you got, you want to be competitive, etc … The Patriots were all that and more. They entertained us, they won a bunch of games, made it to the 7th straight AFC Championship game and won. Got really close to winning the Superbowl. End of story as far as I’m concerned.

    1. Good statement but I don’t agree. Keeping your eye on the prize is a way of not settling. Every game – pre or post season – is for one purpose: get to – and win – the big game. I admire their relentless pursuit myself…they don’t really stop to pat themselves on the back and keep moving forward.

      1. That shows a GOOSE EGG for Boston, which probably
means this will be the solution. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

        1. I want a storm where they predict 12 inches and work gets called off and then it’s all rain. Is that so much to ask?

          1. I have seen that before. Well sort of.
I have told this story before, but here goes
            again.

Some time ago when Dick Albert was on channel 5 and he also did a weather spot on the radio.
Not to disparage Dick Albert because I really liked him, but he presented a classic LOOK OUT THE WINDOW STUPID! In any case, there
was a predicted N’oreaster snow storm for the whole area, including Boston. I was leaving work in Cambridge at 5:30 PM and I was listening to Dick Alber predict a big snow storm that evening and overnight. His forecast called for snow overspreading the area this evening.
ONLY PROBLEM: It was already RAINING!
Had he looked out the window, perhaps he would have altered his forecast. CLASSIC!
I was so bullshit I almost crashed the car.
Not so much that it was raining instead of snowing, but more that the Damn Met didn’t even bother to look out the window! That
really pissed me off! Sorry to rant. I guess I am still bullshit over that one OR perhaps I am more bullshit over the loss last night than I thought I was. πŸ˜€

              1. I have a new Web Cam. I have installed it and tested it. It works great with an awesome picture.

Trying to figure out where and how to place it outside. Discussed with the Mrs. and it is NOT allowed anywhere on the front of the house or anywhere that it would be obviously visible.

Will place it on side/back of house under some trees as to not be very visible.

Image will show ample sky and ground to give a nice current active shot of current conditions.
It will readily show the branches of tress blowing in the breeze and any precipitation falling.

I can’t wait to get it completely operational.

I will be able to provide access to the blog for those who would like to view it whenever.

Right now Not sure if multiple persons can access it at the same time. Will run some tests on that soon.

                Cheers

    1. Interesting. His comments are good but limited. He uses weather models as a base and not climate models. However, the biggest flaw goes hand in hand with JPD’s look out the window, stupid, comment.

He mentions how critical water is to the earth….70% of the earth. Yet he does not once touch on our pollution of that water….that spans to each of the poles.

I’ll repeat. Is the climate changing does not need to be the focus. Are we polluting the earth….and it is far and away more than plastic bottles….can easily be the focus. If we address that and there is a chance (and I understand there are arguments for and against) that we are affecting the climate. It is a win-win.

  20. Hi all!

Love the post SB analysis. I also like seeing people agree to disagree and leave it at that. We can all view things the way we do and state it, debate it, then move on. If it wasn’t like that today you’d have all stressed me out, and I’ll tell you why in a moment…

So I’m going to go with bigger snow on Wednesday and this is not a scientific reason at all. The reason is, after avoiding full-on colds etc. all winter, I have caught a winter plague. No it is not influenza, but a nasty “regular” cold virus, complete with low grade fever, chills, body aches that make me feel like I was being hit by the Eagles defense, congestion, dry cough (so far) and resultant headache. Mom’s chicken soup is on the menu and that will be a step in the right direction. My reasoning for the snowfall higher amount thought is because I’ll still likely feel like crap in 2 days and I always have to shovel difficult storms when I feel like shit, to put it bluntly. πŸ˜› So there.

And because I’m stubborn, I am going out to an event at Woburn High School tonight commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Blizzard of 1978. Don’t wanna miss it. I’ll take some tylenol and suck on a few cough drops. I can’t take cold medicines because they either interfere with my heart condition or my autoimmune disorder. Joy. πŸ˜› So I get to ride these things out with plain old Tylenol and maybe some hibiscus tea later. πŸ™‚

Putting the 2 Beanpot games on DVR and watching them when I get home. πŸ™‚

And I will be writing that 2nd special blog within a day or so.

    1. TK…..please take care. We all know what can happen if we don’t. I am sending positive vibes although I cannot think of a better medicine than mom’s soup.

  21. Oh yes my prelim #’s are coating to 2 inches Plymouth to New Bedford southeastward, 2-4 inches remainder of southeastern MA, most of RI, up to the immediate Boston area, 4-8 inches basically from NH Seacoast and Cape Ann southwestward down the I-495 belt through south central MA and the northwestern corner of RI, and 8-12 inches north central MA through southwestern and south central NH. The rain/snow line will probably get into the I-95 belt easily but there should be a solid snow hit before that. The Wednesday PM commute is likely to be very nasty where it is snowing. Plan for it.

  22. GFS looking very much like the NAM. Perhaps the NAM wasn’t such a warm outlier
    after all???? We shall see.

One more panel for snow map

  23. Patricia criticized Tom Brady for the loss!! sorry it was his defense, Brady threw for 505 yards and 3 touchdowns, can’t do much better than that with a major piece of the offense gone in cooks.

Anyways, next year I think Bill will get more aggressive defense coordinator, hopefully. The offense hopefully stays somewhat in tact, hopeful that Lewis, gronk and amondola stay.
Off season pick up should be a QB , corner to replace Butler and get rid of Rowe,
They also need a running back that can be that bruising back like we had with Blount he was a major piece of the eagles win.
Also even though Harrison is older, I hope he stays as well. he can help the young guys and be with Hightower my god what a Line that will be.
Also major piece missing Edelmen will be back
Difference will be the offensive cordinator and see who it becomes.

    1. He did I didn’t hear that . I will say the fans are demanding the reason why butler rode the pine

      1. I only blame Brady for dropping the pass and the stip sack/fumble. Once the pressure surrounded him, he should have tucked the ball away and drop to the ground to live another play as there were still plenty of downs and time on the clock.

All things considered, the offense did quite well.

  24. TK, take care of yourself. While this yo-yo winter weather is interesting as you kind of get everything thrown at you over 3-day cycles, it’s not conducive to our respiratory health.

        1. It’s probably too late now to get a shot now that you’re sick but next fall..get your flu shot TK!! πŸ™‚

          1. Folks I know who, have flu got shot. I had flu last year with shot. BUT. I will always get shot. I also had both pneumonia shots.

  25. I have seen signs for flu shots in pharmacies as early as August but I wait until September or October. I used to poo-poo them but no more. I make it an annual ritual.

  26. My guess storm trends slight colder and more QPF starting with 00z runs tonight. 3knam much colder than regular NAM. We shall see

    1. Cold enough that Boston’s snow to rain flip may be 1 hour slower and give them 1-2 inches more than they would have had. That’s why I have them on the edge of a 2-4 band.

        1. I-95 still in 2-4 but toward the higher side, I-495 in 4-8 band.

          Still room for adjustment.

      1. Based on this evenings NWS Discussion there is still more sampling to be done so there is still room for a track change. Maybe for the colder/snowier?

    1. It’s inside 48 hours. I’ve got #’s and will tweak these. Also very carefully analyzing this.

  27. Attended a lecture this evening by Alan Earls, who has put together a few books on major weather events in the area. This lecture included pictures from around eastern MA and RI from the Blizzard of ’78 and some local photos from Woburn provided by the Woburn Historical Society. After the lecture I spoke with Mr. Earls to correct one piece of information. He had speculated that Chicago’s blizzard was associated with the January 20 storm, but I informed him it was in fact January 26, which was the date of the major rain/wind event here. He also referenced the board game that was created for 3 locations: Boston & Providence for the February 6-7 storm, and Chicago for the January 26 storm. He was quite surprised to learn that I own the Boston version. πŸ˜‰

        1. Because it can be warmer than the last run, but while it is snowing it’s putting down snow at a much faster rate. I’m not ruling that out.

  28. The players are there, storm will be juicy for sure. Still think it ends up SE than what NAM is showing. Not enough to give much more than TK is calling for. I might throw a 3-6 range in there. Front end thump should be pretty decent before the flip here. North of the Mass border should do really well. A 50 mile shift and his baby would have been a major storm. Oh well. Winter is waning for sure but I bet she’s got 1-2 more surprises up her sleeve before giving up.

  29. I think it’s going to be about the snowfall rates. I am not shying away from a warm up and a changeover right through Boston and into I-95 area, but before that it may snow at a very intense rate. For example, I could see Logan getting 2 or 3 inches in 90 minutes between 11AM and 12:30PM. Don’t hold me to those exact times, just an example in semi-real-forecast time.

  30. Wow, 0z GFS is colder and keeps the storm track entirely south of New England!
Snow totals are up farther south and east:

    https://www.tropicaltidbits.com/analysis/models/?model=gfs&region=neus&pkg=asnow&runtime=2018020600&fh=90

    Note those are 10:1 ratios.

Still a snow to mix-rain back to snow situation along and SE of roughly an I-84/I-290/I-495 line with all snow NW of there.

You can really see the very intense snow rates on the 0z NAM run, as TK was talking about. Going to be wild for a few (to several) hours depending on location with a nice front end thump.

      1. that tells me there is sleet thats gonna be in play and will likely limit the amounts in my area. πŸ™ seen it plenty of times.

        1. Yes, agree – Ryan Hanrahan was talking about the cold air that would be draining in on a light north wind throughout the duration of the storm. That to me spells a period of sleet and freezing rain for several hours just SE of where it stays all snow. It’s going to be a mess across most of interior SNE on Wednesday either way you slice it.

  31. Good morning.

Still trying to make heads or tails of tomorrow’s event.
looking over all of the data, 2-4 still looks good for Boston with 2 at logan
and 3 or 4 in Western and sw neighborhoods with some sleet before switching to rain.
Still a sharp gradient NW to SE. Wish we could get a shift SE in the track.

SREF plumes show 4.52 inches for Boston.

    Euro (my service) has:
    1.6 for boston
    2.8 for Newton
    4.9 for woburn
    7.2 for sutton
    8.5 for Billerica
    10.4 for Holden
    11.5 for Fitcburg

  32. Virus nailed me good. 102 temp overnight. Have it down a bit now Achy! But we press on. New post!

Going to try to write my ’78 blizzard recall blog this evening. πŸ™‚
