Saturday Forecast

2:10AM

DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 28-MAY 2)
A split weekend with a fair/mild day today then a cooler/unsettled day Sunday as a front moves in, and stalls over the region as low pressure cuts off over northern New England. This low will then sit and spin through Monday, keeping it unsettle, before departing as May begins, with fair weather returning Tuesday and continuing Wednesday as a high pressure ridge strengthening to the south of the region brings an increasing westerly flow and a taste of summer. Forecast details…
TODAY: Low clouds and areas of fog early, then sunshine. Highs 57-66 coast, 67-74 inland. Wind S to SW 5-15 MPH.
TONIGHT: Partly to mostly cloudy. Lows 46-54. Wind S under 10 MPH.
SUNDAY: Mostly cloudy. Rain showers likely morning and midday becoming less numerous thereafter. Highs 55-62. Wind variable 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Isolated rain showers. Lows 45-51. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY: Variably cloudy. Isolated to scattered rain showers. Highs 55-63. Wind NW 10-20 MPH.
TUESDAY: Partly cloudy. Lows in the 40s. Highs in the 60s.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows in the 50s. Highs from the upper 60s to middle 70s South Coast, upper 70s to lower 80s elsewhere.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 3-7)
The feel of summer hangs on May 3 with dry, breezy, warm weather except a little cooler in typical areas near the South Coast. Cold front drops into the region May 4 with clouds and rain showers likely but still mild. Cooler May 5 and the front may hang up south of the region with clouds dominating and some additional wet weather possible near the South Coast. The front may lift north again May 6 putting the region back into the warm side but still with a risk of rain showers and possible thunderstorms, before dropping south of the region with cooler and still potentially unsettled weather May 7. The forecast for the middle and end of this period is low confidence.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 8-12)
For now going with a typical springtime up/down temperature pattern with a few episodes of unsettled weather, that most likely early and again late in the period with fair weather dominating in between. However this far out timing is uncertain.

      1. And the last 70+ day was November 3. They have not made it to 70 at the airport yet this calendar year.

          1. Yes you are correct. I looked at the wrong data sheet. 70 & 72. So strike what I said above. But the 80 portion still stands and will probably be reached there on Wednesday.

    1. The best dynamics with this slow moving system actually occur today, but farther west over NY/NJ/PA/VT. Would not surprise me to see a couple strong thunderstorms out to the west this afternoon, but they’ll quickly weaken towards sunset. For SNE, tomorrow would be the day to watch for possible thunder in the afternoon, but it’s not quite as good a setup as the one to our west today. The forcing is still good, but much colder than today at the surface, limiting instability. Still likely to be plenty of diurnally driven clouds, some showers, and maybe a rumble of thunder. And as Tom alluded to the other day, it will not take much at all to get some small hail/graupel in any of these instability showers, even if they are lacking in thunder. Very cold aloft.

  1. Thank you, TK.

Wednesday, May 2nd, will feel like February 20th this year.

Go Bruins, Go Celtics, and Go Red Sox. A trifecta of games today, with the Celtics Game 7 being the most meaningful, Bruins a little less so, and the Sox a lot less so.

I think the Rays’ GM is a genius. That team has no money, a crappy stadium, no fan base. Yet, consistently for the last 10 years they have groomed young players – especially pitchers. They’ve even been a very competitive team for a 6 year stint from 2008 through 2013. The Red Sox have zero starters who were in their farm system. And it’s been that way for a while. The Rays, on the other hand, keep churning out reasonably talented to very talented pitchers. They also have a decent manager. I’m shocked they’ve won 7 straight, but would not be surprised if they wound up doing better than Baltimore this year. And that’s an indictment of Dan Duquette and the horrific front office of the Orioles. Money galore, even some real talent on the offensive side, but absolutely no pitching.

      1. So true. But, Baltimore has money to balance things, and decided not to. I’d be upset if I was an O’s fan.

    1. Sadly, the Rays end up serving as the rest of MLB’s “farm system.” The players they groom are rarely re-signed and/or traded away for prospects. Duquette is a boob. His only accomplishments were brining Manny and Pedro here (which ironically directly resulted in their first World Series in 86 years. Like Matt said below, the Pats draft so far is a head scratcher.

  2. Dan Duquette hasn’t changed in 25 years. He was horrible when he was here, and horrible now.

  3. Played today very nicely…

It was Woburn’s annual city-wide yard sale day, that is, about 60 locations had yard sales from 9AM to 1PM (or later) and the rec department provided a map and list for those who wanted to visit them. Did that and added 14 albums to my collection at a very low cost. Now I don’t feel so bad being inside for the 3PM Bruins game. Planning plenty of outside time during the upcoming warm spell anyway, some yardwork-related, some fun.

I am pleased with the Bruins play in the 1st period of that game. Tampa Bay looks rather slow, like they just played a 7-game series, while Boston looks like a more rested team, when it’s quite the opposite. Tuukka was solid in the 1st period.

    1. I will say that sometimes the rest is not always the best as some teams or groups take it to rest but they become a bit sluggish. Its happened to me both in skiing and marching band. In my high school career, Billerica, marching band won every single competition my softtmore year and junior year. My senior year we won all the regular season, then came the finals when it counted. We had two weeks to prepare as did everyone else that year due to weather and the field being a layer of ice. The band director decided to ask us if we wanted to have a couple of days off. Worst idea ever.

  4. Wonder how many people that screamed for Rask to sit and Doby to start still feel that way after 2 periods. He’s been immense.

1st TB goal was through about 5 players’ worth of screen.
2nd TB goal was on a power play for a penalty that was not a penalty and then scored after Rask’s skate blade fell off and he couldn’t move. He’s essentially shut these guys out through 2.

Also hearing a bunch of Rick Nash bashing. “He’s useless”. Ok, guess his 2 goals today mean nothing through 2 periods.

        1. That was sweet. What a great performance. Rask was AWESOME! He didn’t let in one legit goal as I explained above. The Bruins shut down one of the top offenses in the league today. It’s only ONE game, but they needed to win at least one in Tampa to have a chance and they now have home ice advantage.

  5. All is well in Celtic Nation tonight. It was certainly a “home” series all right, as expected. 🙂
