Friday Forecast

7:22AM

DAYS 1-5 (JUNE 8-12)
5 dry days ahead with temperature determined by wind direction which itself will be determined by our position relative to areas of high pressure that will control the weather during this time. A disturbance that once looked like it could make part of the weekend wet or cloudy may only bring a few clouds for part of it, otherwise will be so far south we’d never know it was really there. Forecast details…
TODAY: Sunny to partly cloudy. Highs 75-83. Wind W 5-15 MPH, few higher gusts.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy to clear. Lows 53-59.Wind N 5-10 MPH, few higher gusts.
SATURDAY: Sunny to partly cloudy. Highs 75-83. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Lows 50-57. Wind light variable.
SUNDAY: Partly cloudy to sunny. High 68-74 coast, 74-80 inland. Wind light variable with sea breezes.
MONDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows in the 50s. Highs from the lower 70s coast to upper 70s inland.
TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Lows from the middle 50s to lower 60s. Highs from the middle 70s coast to middle 80s inland.

DAYS 6-10 (JUNE 13-17)
A general west to east flow will dominate. Weak fronts around June 13, 15, and 17 may produce brief shower threats otherwise dry weather will be dominant overall. Temperatures averaging not too far from normal.

DAYS 11-15 (JUNE 18-22)
A continuation of the pattern of days 6-10 is expected. Overall pattern is dry, but passing disturbances bring brief wet weather threats. Temperatures variable but averaging near normal overall.

  1. Thanks TK !

Here in late spring, very early meteorological summer …. perhaps we have arrived at the point of consistent early summer weather with lots of days destined to make 75F or higher, accompanied by a fair amount of sunshine.

If that’s true, for it to have begun on June 8th is pretty good, considering all things possible in New England.

  2. Good Delightful morning to all and many thanks TK for an outstanding forecast.

I was thinking driving in today, that as much as I might complain about our
crappy weather at times, As time past, I barely even notice or remember the crap.
There simply have been too many beautiful offsetting days. All things considered,
this has been one of our Better Springs, despite the often lousy weather in April.

Now, for the most part, our weather is destined to be nice for about 5 months or so.
Not too shabby. Where else would I want to live??? Ocean and beach, mountains, country side and city, all in the same area and weather variations to keep it
    interesting.

I must be mellowing in my old age. 😀 😀 😀

Oh, did I say???? It’s ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1. And that’s the difference. You have days you do not like, but always mention the ones you do like. And it is a glorious day!

As far as mellowing….hard to believe, but I’ve mellowed considerably. Have I mentioned Mac was a saint 🙂

    2. Me, too, JP ! I love the ocean, beach, mountains, country side and even the city. And it would be neat to have them all in the same area w/different weather, as you say, to keep it interesting.

  3. Vicki,
Gorgeous photos. I enjoyed viewing them and good luck with that puzzle.
    Looks pretty cloudy to me.

    1. Thanks JPD. Clouds cleared to a beautiful crystal blue sky with a few clouds dotting it

      1. Beautiful pictures, Vicki. Unfortunately, I don’t like doing puzzles. I just have no patience for them; too frustrating to find the pieces. I tend to like things like “word puzzles”, if that word describes what I mean.

        1. Thanks, rainshine. I am not a puzzle person either. I keep buying them and thinking I’ve settled enough to do one, but nope.

  4. I am somewhat surprised that May was 1.00″+ below normal in rainfall given that every weekend was unsettled. It is now abnormally dry from N/W of Boston into southern NH. I now have a bad feeling that those conditions could spread further into this month.

    1. I was surprised also. But my lawns wasn’t. Caught me watering too late. Am just now starting to see more green in front.

  5. And it is a beautiful day! I don’t mind a few rainy days to keep the plants and trees happy but during the night or on weedays. I’ll put an order in for that! 🙂

  6. Weekends were not wet from end to end. Usually 1 of 2 days. It’s not really a surprise at all that May was dry but you arrive at that result by looking at rain totals rather than which particular days it rained.

    1. Absolutely, TK. I am not sure I recall an entire weekend washout but then I tend not to think of them as such so could easily have missed it.

I think it was not the lack of water but the spacing for lawns, etc. It had seemed to me it was perfect. Except I don’t think it was perception since the lawns and trees all filled in very fast and many lawns needed more mowings than average for May. What surprised me is how fast we went from deep green to hay. BUT and it is a big one, we have a sand base and absolutely no shade. Our front lawn faces south.

    2. I never thought of it in that way. You used the word “unsettled” so often in your forecast updates but in reality it actually didn’t rain to nearly that extent. Thanks TK for the clarification.

  7. Would I be correct in saying the slight shower threat has evolved a bit further north than I saw mentioned on a few weathercasts last night ??

  8. Enough with this rain…North Reading High School Graduates at 6:15 tonight and we are set up for outside ceremonies. Hey TK, if you are around, when can we expect these showers to end?

    1. Well, thank you sir. Heading out in a bit for a Dana group dinner and guess I had best close windows before I depart.

  9. happy world oceans day. 🙂 There are two many so called _____ days many of them just bogus things but this was one of the originals. 🙂

  10. I just saw Eric showing record high for today of 97F back in 1984.

So this may be the anniversary of game 5 of the 1984 NBA Finals vs the Lakers when it was over 100F in the Garden and the Lakers wilted in the heat. Bird had 30+ with plenty of rebounds and assists.

    1. It is indeed, and it was a Friday as well. What an awesome series that was, 7 games. Ironically, the 3 games that the Lakers won in that series were the 3 games that were all played on a Sunday (May 27, June 3, and June 10).

    2. Ugh. I remember that one. Just released from five days in hospital with an infection that was never diagnosed. Son was not quite three months and we didn’t have AC.

  11. I would hope that tomorrow on WBZ’s “on this date in…” will be June 9, 1948 when WBZ-TV goes on the air for the very first broadcast ever in New England featuring news anchor Arch McDonald reading the latest news of the day. It occurred at 6:15 PM.

With all the hype regarding its 70th anniversary, I am very surprised the station hasn’t been noting the June 9th date. Is there going to be a huge cake or something? Any special programming tomorrow? Not that I know of. I suppose being on a Saturday doesn’t help.

Regardless, I do hope those “on this date ins”…continues through Dec. 31, 2018. I do look forward to them. 🙂

  12. Steady light rain in Western Washington State. Much cooler than two days ago. I’d say it’s in the upper 50s. I don’t know because there’s no thermometer at this house. I’ve tried in vain to photograph the Stellar Jay. Very hard. This bird never sits still. Saw a killdeer (plover-like bird) on my jog this morning. The blue hue of the mountains to my east (cannot see them today because of the rain, but did yesterday and the day before) reminds me of the Smoky Mountains.

  13. Anthony Bourdain dead, and Charles Krauthammer on his deathbed. Very sad day. Bourdain’s show really immersed you into the culture and cuisine of so many places. He was very good at that. Krauthammer is such an astute, brilliant conservative commentator and writer. I disagree with him on almost everything, but really respect his intelligence and perseverance in life. May his final weeks be peaceful.
