Monday Forecast

8:46AM

DAYS 1-5 (JULY 2-6)
A modified batch of marine air sits over the region to start today and will be eroded and transformed to become part of the hot air mass under the high pressure ridge in the eastern US. This will take place during today and be in full force by tomorrow, and the heat will be in full control through midweek, save for a few coastal sea breezes. The only rain chance would be an isolated pop up air mass thunderstorm late Tuesday and sometime Wednesday afternoon, and these would favor interior locations. Thursday looks too stable to support any of these. However, something will be going on to our north on Thursday, the only visual evidence we will probably see of it will be some cloud patches in the northwest and north sky late in the day, from thunderstorms that erupted ahead of a cold front moving in from Canada. This front will proceed southeastward and bring thunderstorms to this area during Friday (timing to be figured out). Forecast details…
TODAY: Mostly sunny. Humid. Highs 77-85 immediate shore, 86-94 interior. Wind light E to SE becoming S late.78-86 immediate South Coast and Cape Cod, 87-96 elsewhere, hottest interior valleys.
TONIGHT: Mostly clear. Humid. Lows 64-72. Wind light S to SW.
TUESDAY: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy. Slight chance of isolated thunderstorms late afternoon mainly southwestern NH and central MA. Humid. Highs 80-89 immediate South Coast and Cape Cod, 90-98 elsewhere, hottest interior valleys. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy to mostly clear. Humid. Lows 65-75, warmest urban centers. Wind light variable.
WEDNESDAY – INDEPENDENCE DAY: Mostly sunny to partly cloudy. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms possible, mainly southwestern NH, central MA, northern RI, and northeastern CT. Humid. Highs 78-86 immediate shorelines and Cape Cod, 87-96 elsewhere, hottest interior valleys. Wind light variable with light coastal sea breezes.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny. Humid. Lows from the upper 60s to upper 70s. Highs from the upper 80s to upper 90s but cooler in some coastal areas.
FRIDAY: Partly sunny. Thunderstorms likely, favoring the afternoon and evening. Humid. Lows from the upper 60s to middle 70s. Highs from the middle 80s to middle 90s.

DAYS 6-10 (JULY 7-11)
July 7-9 look dry and seasonably warm. A disturbance coming along the jet stream brings a shower/thunderstorm threat July 10-11.

DAYS 11-15 (JULY 12-16)
A couple passing disturbances bring changeable but overall seasonable temperatures and a couple thunderstorm threats during this period. The pattern will feature the ridge of high pressure having backed up to the west and a weak trough in the Northeast carrying the disturbances.

    1. Thank you, SAK. So if a range is 76-83 and it is to be a little cooler along the coast, does that mean cooler than 76? Or would it mean a range of (roughly) 72-79?

  1. Good morning and thank you TK…
Certainly not starting out as warm today as yesterday.
We shall see where it goes.

Logan at 72 while Norwood is at 81 reflecting that marine layer.
It is 78 here in JP.

Do here is 66, same as at Logan.

  2. Thanks TK
The only silver lining where I am with this heat is the heat index will be a little lower than yesterday. I am hoping we end this heat wave with a bang on Friday with some thunderstorms.

    1. No, but I just went back and read it. Thank you for your kind thoughts.

I think it is the unit. I thought it was 8,000 BTU and I think it is only 5,000 or 6,000. Not enough for the size of the room.

I located a quite running 8,000 btu unit at Target. I ordered it and will
be picking it up shortly as the order is ready. I’d get a 10,000 or 12,000 btu unit, but the electrical won’t handle it. 8,000 is the limit.

Hopefully, this will do the job.

  3. Happy Birthday, Matt. What a great day to start on a new adventure! Have a great summer in Maine!

  4. Yesterday at this time it was nearing 90.
Now it is 76 here with dp 65. A little better I would say. πŸ˜€

Heading out for a bit. Be back later.

    πŸ˜€

  5. You know it was a hot one yesterday when your saying its 76 at 930 in the morning and a dew point of 65 is a little better.

  6. Florida like with a temperature and dew point like that at this point in the day. Hopefully and I know were still early in summer but this will be the worst of the heat and humidity. The previous winter the worst of the cold was early on in the winter so hopefully the same thing will happen here. I know its wishful thinking on my part.

  7. out in Westwood near Norwood and Canton
town lines. 84 out here. 76 at my house when I left. Stifling here. humidity is brutal.

  8. A good amount of CAPE on 12z NAM Tues and Wed but no moisture to be found with that instability.

  9. Thanks TK !

Wonder how things are going up in the Champlain Valley.

Burlington, VT low was 81F, they are already knocking on the door of 90F and their dp is in the low 70s.

  10. Brutal out there again today. What a difference a week makes as we saw lows in the upper 30’s in some of the hilltowns of CT early last week.

Despite the heat, still some snow patches on Mount Washington as we enter early July. A few on the east side of Jefferson and some left in Tuckermans….

Wont be there long as the high on the summit was 68 yesterday and is projected to top 70 today. If the high hits 70, it will tie the record for the date. All-time record high for the summit is 72 and they have a shot at it.

    1. 80 here and you can feel the battleground setting up…for a few minutes it will get really stuffy and gross…then the east/southeast wind perks up and it feels great.

  11. Mark good to hear from you and big series win for the Yankees this weekend against the Red Sox. The Yankees are David Price’s kryptonite.

  12. Good point. He is right now the weak link in the Yankees starting rotation. The Yankees gave up three good prospects Dustin Fowler Jorge Mateo and James Kaprelien to get Gray at the trade deadline last year hoping he would be a top three starting pitcher in the rotation who you would have under control through 2019 season. Too much inconsistency and his home ERA is the highest of any Yankees starter with a minimum of 10 home starts.

    1. I’d say swap Price for Gray but Price still has a little more upside but his salary is a killer.

  13. Price has never gotten it done in the postseason as a starter. I didn’t get the 7yr 217 million dollar contract the Red Sox gave him for a pitcher who is not dependable in the postseason as a starter.

    1. Yeah…I agree. While not as bad as the Carl Crawford signing it’s up there. Just hope that a) Wright’s knee will be ok and he just needs a little rest and b) that Pomeranz can be the pitcher he was in the second half last year.

      1. a. you can thank idiot John Farrell for that one
        b. Fat chance of that.

Sorry, just the glass completely empty me.

      2. As they say on the radio, Price is a PUDDLE, and a really big one against the Yankees. πŸ˜€

  14. I am looking at the trade deadline and which GM of the top 3 teams Yankees Astros Red Sox makes the move to put their team over the top. The Astros need bullpen help Yankees need a starter Herman and Loaisiga are pitching good but I think they may run out of gas with the length of a major league baseball season there not used to pitching this many innings. Red Sox bullpen help to bridge the gap to Kimbrel.

    1. supposedly Tyler Thornburg is due back very soon and “could” be the answer
to the Sox bullpen needs. Of course, that is a big IF

      1. The Sox bullpen has been decent all season but there really isn’t anyone there that fills me with long term confidence. Workman may be one and Velazquez is another unless circumstances force them to move him to the starting rotation.

  15. I am not a fan of Price overall but the Yankees are inside his head. His ERA against them must be 10.0.

  16. Now I totally get it about people not liking heat/humidity and people that suffer from it. What I am laughing about today being around social media is seeing the very same people that were asking for hot summer weather back in the winter complaining about it today. NOPE! Can’t have it both ways. Don’t wish for it then bitch about it. πŸ˜›

    1. I agree I love summer & love it hot . I’m in the city working outdoors doing labor work and I am soaked from sweating but you will never hear me complain about it . I would have gone all day yesterday but the crew took It hard . I HATE winter cold & snow . Bring on the heat & bring it harder . The only thing is I sincerely feel bad for people like old salty wife or people with health problems that have trouble in it that stinks. I though the city according to the news this morning would be a little cooler today – not here in the medical area it’s hot

  17. I do not complain about most weather, I do not complain about a season, BUT, I have favorites in Summer and Winter of course for different reasons, but those are my favorite. Fall follows and then its spring. Spring just makes me sick most of the time, this year though spring was good to me, I just got the sniffles. lol. I think people that do not like a season, does not have something fun to do during that season to do or someone generally gets sick during that time. The second is understandable, the second in my opinion not so much. πŸ˜›

This coming from the guy on the island where its 74 degrees. πŸ˜›

  18. I’ll say it again…I’m betting the vast majority who like HHH also have AC or a pool or other means to cool off. Note please that I didn’t say all.

I am surprised and pleased that I have yet to hear anyone complain. Although, there is a very slight possibility they don’t want to see my reaction if they do πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

We did had water company call about an hour ago and say they had a major water main break so we could not use ANY water ….inside or out. But they just called again and said it is fixed. These temps and no water is not a good combination.

      1. You certainly did, but you don’t fit into the category I described above, posting on social media that you can’t wait for hot weather in the middle of winter and then bitchin’ that it’s too hot. πŸ˜‰

        1. No I don’t. I would never wish for this. I would wish
for extended dry weather in the low to mid 80s. πŸ˜€

  19. 97 in Burlington, VT. That must be near a record if not already a record????
    97 at Albany, NY.

    75 at Logan
83 at Blue Hill and here. dp 66
    90 at Norwood

That East wind makes a difference.

  20. Still 75 at Logan
Blue Hill has snuck up to 84
    We’re at 86 here
while Norwood is sitting at 91.
Norwood airport (where the obs is taken) is about
12 miles from my house and about 18 miles from Logan.

    1. DP 66 At Logan, 67 here and 75 at Norwood.
If the wind shifts and that dp air is released. YUUUUUUUUUUCKKKK!!!!!!

  21. Has anyone watched Dark Matter on Netflix?

Curious, as that show is right up my alley. Enjoying it very much.

  22. Will we end this heat wave with a bang on Friday? Eric with this tweet thinks there is a chance.
July gonna July. Highest storm chances are tomorrow and especially Friday which could feature some major boomers. Outstanding weekend to follow.

    1. I am getting up very early Friday morning, going to Hampton for a walk and breakfast, and some beach & arcade time until the storm threat appears. From there, it’s either wait for them to arrive at Hampton, or chase, depending on the set-up.

        1. Yes. It’s obviously too early to call details on this but with a sharp cold front slicing into a hot/humid air mass at a time when it will be cooling aloft. 3 major ingredients already.

  23. It is 91 degrees here in Sudbury now – a few degrees cooler than yesterday. The wind is light from the south. It’s humid outside for sure – I don’t know what the dewpoint is. But in the sun it is blazing hot. I don’t mind HHH if it is scattered through the summer here and there and there is a nice breeze along with it. No wind and it’s rough. Hoping Mrs. OS is feeling ok and others who can’t tolerate the heat. ‘Though we have A/C I can still sense the heat (shades are down, too) and my stomach doesn’t feel that great in consistent days of heat. As I have said before, I love all the seasons for what they are. Each one has something special. But since I like to take walks, this weather holds me back from that. Just a few more days of this heat along with some thunderstorms (looking forward to that as long as they aren’t severe) and the heat goes down, for awhile I guess.

  24. JJ – I was at the Yankees/Red Sox game in NYC Saturday. Figures I would be at the one game that was absolutely horrible. Perhaps the worst Yankee game I have ever witnessed in person. They booed Sonny Gray off the mound. Gray said after the game he would have booed himself off the mound. He really is a #5 starter at best. Yankees really need to pick up another solid starter and if they do, I think they will be in good shape down the stretch.

    1. So far I would not call that a good trade the Yankees made. You don’t send those types of prospects for a 4th or 5th starter. As far as starters JA Happ of Toronto Cole Hamels of Texas I have heard as names the Yankees may target come trade deadline.
As soon as Gray gave up the grand slam to Devers I said that’s it with Sale on the mound.

      1. I would certainly take Hamels or Happ.

Yep, I knew the game was over after the top of the 1st. The Yankees had one ground ball single in the first and then nothing until another ground ball single in the 9th. Fortunately there was a good beer stand directly behind my seats so I could wallow in my sorrows (which only increased after paying $12/beer)

          1. I was going to ask you how you felt about that. I thought Tavares was going to re sign with the Islanders. You got a great hockey mind in Lou Lamorillo running things as he had success with the Devils and the Maple Leafs go to the playoffs ahead of schedule.

            1. His heart was in Toronto where he grew up and let’s face it, they have a much better chance of contending for the Stanley Cup in the next couple of seasons than the Islanders do. That is more important to him than an extra year and a bit more $ on his contract.

Really disappointed in Taveras though for stringing the Islanders along. If he was up front with them sooner, they could have traded him before the trade deadline. Instead, they lose him to free agency and get nothing in return! Lou needs to work his magic and make some good trades now.

  25. 67 the high at Mt Washington today so far – doesn’t look like they are going to break the record.

    1. It’s warm aloft, but not that warm. The model forecasts were overdone, as were the sfc temp forecasts.

  26. GFS upper air fcst from 12z on both the op and experimental is pretty decent today. It reflects the expected pattern, but as is typical for the GFS it is probably showing signs of the 2nd half of summer pattern a bit early.

  27. The warmth has surged atop the ridge into far northern Maine, where the temps have jumped to 85F and the dewpoints have reached 70F.

Here in southwest Maine, it’s now the coolest it’s been in 3 days with temps in the mid 70s and dp’s in the mid 60s. The S/SE breeze feels great !!

  28. I wonder if the thickness of the Marine Layer is decreasing Logan. Perhaps it was 1,000 ft thick earlier and now it’s 300 ft thick …… because even though the wind remains northeast, the temp and the dewpoint are climbing. Pretty neat !

  29. I have a stupid question which maybe one of you can answer. Why is the sky in July and August often so hazy and not very blue, particularly when it’s hot and humid, while the sky in September and October is almost never hazy and quite blue?

    1. the humidity which is water is part of the cause. Water can trap dust particles and other pollution which is why you see more haze or if bad enough smog. Durring those months typically there is less free moisture in the air to hold the particles in the air.

      1. Thanks, Matt. Also explains why breathing is worse in this weather. I find it very hard to breath to full lung capacity in this weather. I don’t have asthma, but can imagine that it’s much worse for asthma-sufferers.

      2. Thank you Matt. And thank you for asking Joshua. I have never had asthma but need an inhaler when I have a bronchial infection. I notice allergies or something is bothering me again the past two days.

Just a barrel of laughs getting older πŸ™‚
