Monday Forecast

TONIGHT: Partly to mostly cloudy. Patchy fog. Very humid. Lows 64-72. Wind light S.
TUESDAY: Partly cloudy. Isolated showers and thunderstorms mainly late day. Humid. Highs 78-87, coolest South Coast. Wind S 5-15 MPH.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Partly cloudy. Patchy fog. Very humid. Lows 64-72. Wind S 5-15 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Partly cloudy. Isolated showers and thunderstorms mainly late-day. Humid. Highs 78-87, coolest South Coast. Wind S 5-15 MPH.
THURSDAY: Variably cloudy. Scattered showers/thunderstorms. Humid. Lows from the middle 60s to lower 70s. Highs from the upper 70s to upper 80s, coolest South Coast.
FRIDAY: Partly cloudy. Isolated showers. Humid. Lows from the middle 60s to lower 70s. Highs from the upper 70s to upper 80s, coolest South Coast.

DAYS 6-10 (JULY 28-AUGUST 1)
The overall large scale pattern, as mentioned previously, will feature a low pressure trough around the Midwest and Great Lakes and high pressure off the US East Coast. As the strength and position of the ridge fluctuates, it will help determine days with higher shower and thunderstorm threats. A higher threat is expected early and again late in the period with driest weather during the July 28-29 weekend. Temperatures near to above normal.

DAYS 11-15 (AUGUST 2-6)
Not seeing any major pattern shifts during this period as well.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK.
Drove in with having to turn the wipers on now and again.
Not enough rain to even utilize the intermittent wipers at the slowest setting, yet
it was raining the whole way in. Walking from the parking lot it was like
swimming in water. Yes the air is that wet. YUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCKKKKK!!!!

  2. My take from SAK’s blog and I am certain that it is TK’s sentiment as well.

If you want to actually find out what the forecast is, ignore the app and check with an actual meteorologist.

Umm, Errr, I “think” that’s why most of us are here. No? 😀

  3. Most showers appear to be aligned well West, mostly West of Springfield.
Meaningless piddly little showers east of there.

    1. Indeed AND you don’t have to look very closely.

Our friends are down at Harwich this week and next.
All they were doing was complaining about how awful the weather
was going to be. I kept telling them that it wouldn’t be bad at all thanks
to my trusted sources here at WHW (thanks TK!).

      1. I’m not sure it is icky there. The last two weeks when we went inland, it was humid and hot. At the water, it was absolutely lovely. In the shade on the ocean side of the house, I often put on a light sweatshirt; and I think everyone here knows I don’t get cold often.

Although, if there is no breeze, then all bets may be off.

    2. btw, it also clearly depicts that most action is and will be to the West as strongly suggested by TK.

    3. The humarock wunder station says mostly cloudy and 80 which of course implies also sunny. Still makes for an awesome beach day.

    4. Tom, I know you told me last week what page to go to for the GOES photos, but I forget. I tried to shorten your link backwards to find it but didn’t have any luck.

      Thank you!

    1. We have hard wood flooring in the kitchen. I cleaned the floor well
with my trusted Bona® Hardwood Floor Cleaner yesterday. Now Let’s see
how long it will stay sticky free in this weather. 😀 😀 😀

    2. Our kitchen tile in Framingham used to be nasty when it was humid. The house was a slab so I think that made it worse. The tiles on the porch were worse and literally water covered.

  4. When all was said and done, I picked up a grand total
of 0.26 inches yesterday and so far today combined.

Hardly a washout and certainly not the doom and gloom predicted by
    TV Mets. 😀 😀 😀

Also, I was pissed off that I opted not to go fishing yesterday based on
the forecast Saturday night (I watched Jacob Wycoff). The forecast was
so bad, I did not make even a contingency plan of going IF the weather was
OK. I thought there was no hope. Even when I got up, there were slugs of heavy rain
headed for us. Little did I know that it would all go POOF! It would have been
a PERFECT morning for fishing. AHHH CRAP!!!!

My biggest fear is the “CRY WOLF” syndrome. The more forecast busts there are, the more the public Will NOT listen to the forecasts. Sooner or later, someone
will be seriously injured or killed by not heeding a forecast.

    [REMARKS]

Here’s Dallas’ July summary so far.

    1. That didn’t go so well ….

      Some of the highlights ….

      Temps last 9 days : 100, 100, 101, 104, 106, 108, 108, 109, 109

    2. I appreciate that there are many folks who enjoy that type of weather and enjoy Texas. As far as I am concerned, if someone offered to pay every cent of my expenses, I would not live there. Even my sister in law who prefers warmer weather and has lived in literally every climate the world has to offer was not a fan of Texas when she was based there.

      1. I wouldn’t live in ANY part of Texas. I’ve only been there once
and was only in Dallas and Ft. Worth and the towns
between the 2. I HATED it.

      1. Austin is the one city I might be convinced to visit for a very short time. It is supposed to be quite nice.

  6. Been outside some ….

With breaks of sun warming temps into the low-mid 80s, it’s getting pretty close to being brutal outside.

The ventilating breeze does help some, but the difference btwn an air conditioned environment and the air outside is about as different as it gets up here.

  7. Interesting line to the west. Appears to be moving pretty much south to north. It is quite dark to the southeast of Sutton although I don’t see much on radar – just a small cell so that must be what is cause it.

  8. Just came in from lunch. Drove through a Down Pour. Got out of the car
and is it every SOUPY out there. YUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCKKKK!!!!!!

          1. Bottom 10 reserved for pouring rain with Nasty
NE winds and temps in the 30s or 40s. Now that’s
            a bottom 10 Day.

              1. Believe me I do NOT like the high dew points, but I could take today
over what I described above. That is all.

I certainly rank today towards the bottom. but not a bottom 10. 😀

  9. God I love this. You winter people have your snow and cold. And a lot of it. Very rare we get this. For the record, I could live in any part of Texas.

    1. I lived in McKinney. That’s about 40 miles north of Dallas. We actually enjoyed it there during our 9 year stay. We’ve had thoughts of going back. If I’m not mistaken typically the temperature is 100 but the dew point is in the 50’s.

  10. Elements of showers still moving into Boston. The morning tv mets were touting that the activity would diminish in eastern sections as the afternoon wore on and only central/western areas would be affected.

    1. No. Just checked.

IT is simply a bottle of cleaner. Spray on floor and clean.
It came with a special mop, but the mop head got smelly in a hurry, so
I purchased a different one where one can easily wash the mop head
in the washer and then dry in the dryer. That way after every couple
of applications I toss it in the washer. Stays nice and fresh that way.

also, it does a fantastic job on the floors. Nice and clean and shiny.
I do them once a week and they stay really nice.

My daughter also uses this product on her wood floors.
I came highly recommended from the company from which I purchsed
the flooring. Not Lumder Liquidators. I purchased on line from a California
Company where the flooring was completely manufactured in this
      country and NOT China.

Btw we have the hardest floor avaialable, Bamboo and it looks great.

    1. Happy for SSK !

Same thing in Brant Rock, mostly sunny. More cloudiness here just a bit away from the water.

      1. That is the beauty of the ocean. Love it and happy for SSK also.

We have mostly sun in Sutton. Still dark clouds to the south but some awesome white puffy clouds to the north against a deep blue sky!

  11. I’m on deck for a brief work break and it is quite lovely. There is a strong breeze but the air is comfortable. Granted I’m sitting and understand anyone doing anything strenuous might not like it as much.

    1. The long wave pattern plopped the center of a strong ridge right on them. I found one thing funny, this line is like randomly inserted in the story, completely irrelevant, and not even written correctly: “The Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics are due to start two years on Tuesday.”

  12. Reporting from Hampton beach where it was a fantastic beach day . Blazing sun as I type it’s warm but there has been a steady breeze all day . The ocean was warm but it was very rough . Adults heading out to dinner at the beach plum I guess a seafood place . Looking forward to more days like today as I’ll take it.

    1. Awesome SSK. You and your area certainly gave me the very best weather one could hope for and I’m wishing the same for you

  13. 1.5″ in the rain gauge as of this morning and have had on and off showers and downpours all day so no doubt have added to that total. There have been several sun showers as well as Vicki mentioned. Definite tropical island feel today. It has been quite breezy which has made the humidity more tolerable.

BTW, I am now at over 4.5″ of rain on the month in Coventry, CT and this will mark 4 of the past 5 months where we have had between 4 and 6″ of rain on the month, the exception being May where we finished with just over 3″. Any drought concerns are out the window, at least for the time being.

    1. Sutton had .86 from last two days.

7:51 since station went live June 18

1/3 of mass was moderate drought as of last Thursday but TK said it didn’t include the rain that week which was a good amount in some spots

        1. Thanks Mark. I’m a bit surprised that it is still moderate although I’m guessing it is areas that didn’t get as much as we did. I suspect you are correct about end of month.

  14. Thank you, TK.

As they said in rural Perry County, Pennsylvania (where my mother is from), “it’s gettin’ mighty close out.” “Close” is used to refer to humid, stifling weather. The use of “close” as an adjective to describe hot, stifling weather supposedly comes from the sense of a house or room completely “closed up,” with no circulation of fresh air. This use dates back to the 16th century in Europe, and for some reason was adopted by German settlers in America. Perhaps this is because in German and Dutch weather like this is described as “narrow,” “restrictive,” or “tight-fitting” (ie, close). In Central Pennsylvania there is very little wind during summer. Obviously, Boston is different in this respect. Yet, I felt today was a “close” day.

Today reminded me of the summers of 1979 and 1980 when I worked in my Uncle John’s hardware store. After the store closed, he and I would sometimes drive in his old Ford pick-up truck with the windows open to “get some fresh air” and visit the local saloon (Katy’s). I drank coke (I was 16) while my uncle had bourbon. I’ll never forget the spittoon in that truck (my uncle was an avid tobacco chewer). Nor will I ever forget my uncle’s fiercely conservative take on the world around him. He and I disagreed about everything, but it was always amiable. I miss him.

My lasting memory of my uncle was seeing him on his Lazy-Boy watching Johnny Carson, with several oscillating fans going (they had no AC). In spite of the fans it still felt sticky and uncomfortable inside. Yet, I loved those summers.

    1. Oh Joshua I love love your story. It truly touched me. My nana used rhe word close all of the time and I forget it until you mention it here. Her brother had a spittoon in his blacksmith shop

But above all your memory of the last time you saw your uncle brought tears…happy and sad.

Thank you for the wonders you share

    2. This is a wonderful post with great memories. Growing up in upstate NY, my mother also called this type of weather “close.” Both of her parents immigrated to the US from Sicily.

      1. My nana grew up in isle la Motte vt which borders upstate NY. Maybe that’s why she also used close. You are also first generation then. I am on my dad’s side and Mac was in his dad’s side also. Makes you so proud doesn’t it ?

        1. Great to hear from you both on the use of the word “close” by your mother and nana, respectively.

  15. There is a strange event being held in Copenhagen, Denmark. Basically, it’s a Santa Claus convention, with Santa’s from over 100 countries sharing stories, `networking,’ and having a good time. The event has been recurring annually since 1957. This Christmas in July scene is truly bizarre, especially because Copenhagen is experiencing the hottest summer it’s had in several decades (today’s temp there was 86F):
