Sunday Forecast

10:09AM

DAYS 1-5 (DECEMBER 16-20)
Low pressure brings wet weather into the region during the course of the day today although a few pockets of sleet are possible at the onset of the rain, then colder air arriving from above and from the northwest will attempt to change rain to sleet/snow, most successfully in higher elevations west and north later this evening and moving southeastward thereafter but as precipitation tapers off. Leaving yesterday’s numbers the same for now. Blustery, colder air in control much of Monday and Tuesday as it dries out. Moderating temperatures at midweek and may get wet by the end of December 20 with the next low pressure system from the west.
Forecast details…
TODAY: Cloudy. Periods of rain increasing from south to north may mix with sleet briefly. Highs 37-43. Wind NE 5-15 MPH interior and 15-25 MPH coast, higher gusts possible especially Cape Cod.
TONIGHT: Overcast. Rain likely South Coast and southeastern MA, rain/mix/snow changing to mostly snow elsewhere. Lows 27-35, coldest north and west. Wind NE to N 10-20 MPH except 15-30 MPH Cape Cod, higher gusts possible.
MONDAY: Cloudy morning with rain possibly ending as mix southeastern MA and RI with no snow accumulation expected, snow/mix ending after accumulation of a coating to 1 inch elsewhere except 1-2 inches higher elevations central MA to southwestern NH. Partly sunny afternoon with a passing snow shower possible. Highs 35-41. Wind N to NW 15-30 MPH with higher gusts possible.
TUESDAY: Mostly sunny. Windy. Lows from the middle 10s to lower 20s. Highs from the middle 20s to lower 30s.

THURSDAY: Increasing clouds. Risk of rain late. Lows in the 20s. Highs in the 40s.

DAYS 6-10 (DECEMBER 21-25)
Transition from mild and showery to cooler and drying during the course of December 21. Seasonable cold December 22-25 with one or two opportunities for light scattered to general precipitation.

DAYS 11-15 (DECEMBER 26-30)
Disturbances bring chances of precipitation around December 26 and December 29 with temperatures near to slightly above normal for this period. This forecast remains low confidence. Hopefully some better clarity will be gained on the 11-15 day period soon.

Looking at the intensification of today’s low as it gets east of us, I’m going to guess that if the upper low north of the Great Lakes had either been a bit quicker or a bit further southeast, that we may have had a rain to a sizeable snow event closer to eastern mass ?????

  2. man, I really hope next weekend is not warm and wet, I was planning on going skiing just at wachusett with my dad and brothers.

  3. Thanks TK
Latest HRRR showing some pretty good accumulating snow for the overnight into Monday morning for the interior.

  4. Thanks TK.

A number of locations in the mid-Atlantic and Southeast have approached or exceeded their wettest year on record. It’s been impressive, especially so for the mid-Atlantic sites like DC considering the lack of a tropical cyclone impact this year. As of today, models still holding onto the idea of a powerful Lakes Cutter late this week that would bring another soaking to the East Coast. That may trend weaker and further east, but would probably still be mainly a rain event for most.

      1. A rainy Winter ahead??? Wouldn’t surprise me.
NOT impressed with what I see so far, BUT it’s not Winter
just yet, so we shall see.

Keep those cutters away from us! NO MORE CUTTERS!!!!

    1. That would be back-to-back Christmas miracles. Not a snowballs chance. πŸ˜‰

      Very nice though! πŸ™‚

      1. Agree. Not a chance! We all would have a better chance to win
Powerball and Megabucks the same week. πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

        It would be nice, though.

    1. HRRR keeps waivering back and forth. IT could be a very close call. Likely no snow in Boston, but it is so close, it “could” happen. We’ll just have to wait and see.

      1. oh I know, its just fun to see that there is a chance, heck like WX said above, the Friday system is not locked so how can anything pass that be in lock. I would even say this small system for tonight is not even locked.

  5. Interesting…Minnesota 41, Miami 17

Run out of miracles, have we? πŸ˜‰

Beware though: Steven Ridley now is with Pittsburgh. Watch out! Former Pats RBs have killed us so far. Time to stop this bleeding.

    1. So it wasn’t that Ben was the issue. The Steelers didn’t actually play an awesome game. We couldn’t freaking score again. Ah well.

      1. My take is that it just points to the overall cold/dry winter pattern that I’ve been expecting. A lot of split flow, a lot of northwest flow in the polar jet, and a lack of phasing. When phasing does happen it’s usually in the middle of the country for the occasional Lakes Cutter or offshore with a lot of out-to-sea scenarios.

        1. It doesn’t but hoping it is . You know how much I love winter but just like any other season it is what it is .

  6. Horrific thought: Mathematically, COULD the Patriots miss the playoffs entirely if they lose their remaining games?

        1. Won’t be able to tell until they take the field for any given game. Past performance means absolutely nothing for future games. We like to think it does – but it does not whatsoever.

              1. That’s not true at all. If they have a record good enough to make the playoffs, they deserve to be in the playoffs. Any team can win any game on any given day. I assess things in a realistic way, not in a sports radio way. It’s the correct way to do it.

  7. The pats we know and love are dead. Bill was right on Jimmy and now we are set for years of disappointment.

Brady needs to lay down and who ever his replacement is needs to be found over the next 3 years. We only have Bill for so long.

    1. Maybe true..maybe not. But what we really need to do is thank them and make sure win or lose they know we love them still. Otherwise, we are the Boston fans I’ve mentioned more than once.

    2. Brady will need to have someone strong under his wing, sure. But he is still playing at an elite level. Today was a bad game but in Miami he played his heart out and the game was lost because of Bill’s bad play calling.

    3. I agree somewhat. I don’t know if it’s over over, but we know it can’t last forever. I still think they’ll give us a little bit more. We’ll see how it goes.

  8. Within the next 10 to 12 years we will see a transition period. This year the patriots will select a QB within the first three rounds, watch for someone like Jimmy G to be selected. This will be a mix of Bill and McDaniel choosing. Brady will have up to 3 more years, as one or two QB’s learn behind him. Then Brady retires, but not totally away from football. He becomes the QB coach πŸ™‚ All the while Bill starts giving McDaniel’s more power, even letting him take the reigns at times. Bill then gives McDaniels full control of coaching while Bill remains the Manager and Brady or someone else becomes Offensive coach. πŸ™‚ If we loose McDaniels this off season, this hole plan goes to the crapper and we will experience bad times here in New England.

    1. in terms of this year, the patriots will win out the next two games, they can even take the second seed back if the texans loose one game. The patriots could very well have the steelers in the playoffs and that will be at home. I see a few ways that the patriots only play one road game and its not that difficult of a game.

  9. Pats win next 2 home games. Houston loses at Philly, who beat the LA Rams last night and the Pats are the 2 seed with a bye. πŸ™‚
