Thursday Forecast

7:37AM

DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 4-8)
The big storm that went by the region yesterday and caused all the wind last night is still having some impact today with a gusty breeze, but high pressure moving closer to the region will bring dry weather. A weak disturbance and some cold air aloft will pop some passing clouds today but overall a nice day. Low pressure approaches from the west Friday, spreading clouds back in, with wet weather by late day and nighttime for most if not all of the region, lingering until very early Saturday before it departs, leaving us with a decent weekend. By Monday, the next low pressure system is in with more wet weather.
Forecast details…

FRIDAY NIGHT: Cloudy with rain, tapering to drizzle with patchy fog overnight. Lows 35-42. Wind SE 5-15 MPH.

SUNDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 55-62 except cooling back along the coast. Wind light variable with coastal sea breezes.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Increasing clouds. Lows 35-42. Wind light N.
MONDAY: Cloudy. Rain likely. Highs 45-52. Wind E 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 9-13)
Pattern will feature high pressure in Canada and waves of low pressure passing south of New England, possibly over New England. This is a cooler/unsettled pattern overall and will have to work out timing detail for wet weather. The first date-of-importance is April 9 for Red Sox home opener which currently looks like a damp start then drying out, but possibly not that warm at all.

DAYS 11-15 (APRIL 14-18)
A sneaky warmer day or 2 is possible but the overall pattern doesn’t look like it wants to change too much through mid month.

  1. Thank you, TK. I recall April 9 as being another date of importance…..It will be 41 years since Mac proposed πŸ˜‰

  2. Good morning and thank you TK.
I guess we could call the upcoming weather as very typical of April. No surprise there.

  3. For anyone interested in farming, the history channel has a segment called American Farm and is supposed to cover a family farm in Contookook NH at 10 tonight

Well, both the NAO and AO outlook explain the upcoming meridional pattern accompanied by north latitude blocking.

Somewhat hopeful, in looking at both graphs that both maximize negatively somewhere around April 8 and 9th, then start to trend a bit towards neutral thereafter.

Also hoping the relaxation of both may allow the southeast ridge to appear towards mid-month.

00Z EURO on the 500mb chart at hr 240, shows the SE ridge trying to emerge.

      1. Relatively speaking, I think there’s a snow threat for southern New England somewhere in the April 10 – April 17 time frame, with the blocking providing -5C temps at 850mb and a potential sharpening of the flow along the east coast. Particularly, if a majority of a system passes through overnight.

  5. The wind last night was fierce!!! My wife and I were watching TV and we thought
the roof was going to blow off. Fortunately, nothing happened and we didn’t lose
    power.

      1. Looked at a job last night for someone who worked with you she is retired . I’m horrible with names . She spoke very highly of you Sue .

          1. She actually called me because she saw that you had referred me to other jobs . I appreciate that sue , thank you .

  6. TK – Isn’t it time to put away the wintry WHW scene above? πŸ™‚

    Unless you believe this β€œcould” be 1970, 1977, 1982, 1987, 1997 or 2016. πŸ˜‰

        1. I bet I missed even more years in between. Those are the only ones that stand out in my memory. πŸ™‚

Hard to believe though that the average snowfall in April is actually higher than in November.

          1. Makes perfect sense if you think about it.

What is the ocean temp in November vs April? πŸ™‚

      1. I liked them both. But the current one looks like it should be
        for Valentine’s Day. πŸ™‚

  7. If Bart Simpson was working for NBC Boston or NECN and had to do the 10-day he could cover much of next week by writing “Craptacular” on the graphic. Looks that way right now anyway.

  8. Red Sox have played 77 innings this season. They’ve been behind or tied in 74 of those innings. I’m generally not one for hyperbole, but that is a shocking and damning statistic for a team we presume is good. Clearly, they’ve played like crap in all facets of the game. Hangover from the championship? Perhaps. But, this goes a bit deeper than a hangover. Also, I would have expected the Red Sox to deal Eduardo Rodriguez in the past off-season, because he is uncoachable and, quite frankly, a manager’s nightmare. He often doesn’t give it his best and fails to heed instructions, particularly on getting ahead of hitters. Yet, here we are, stuck with Rodriguez.

  9. It is still early in the season and you got two teams in the Orioles and Rays who won’t be on top of the AL East when all is said and done. I am hoping the Yankees could get through a game with out someone going on the injured list. 10 players on the injured list right now.

    1. It is indeed very early. But, I’m disheartened by the Sox poor play. If only the Red Sox could point to injuries. They can’t. They’re just collectively playing incompetent baseball.

Your Yankees could be headed for a record number of homeruns. That lineup is the best in baseball; certainly when everyone is healthy.

  10. The only person who may not come back is Miguel Andujar with his injury although he is optimistic he will be back. When the other guys from the Injured List look out. I was very happy to see a game where a Yankee player did not get hurt and go on the injured list although there was a close call with Tyler Wade.
