Saturday Forecast

9:45AM

DAYS 1-5 (APRIL 6-10)
A quick update on this Saturday morning. Some of you may have seen snowflakes and/or heard sleet pinging off your windows last evening as precipitation fell into dry air and chilled off the air just enough to support some frozen stuff, but that’s long gone now and in comes some milder air for your weekend as it dries out today and remains dry through Sunday. The difference on Sunday will be an onshore wind developing in coastal areas which end up cooler than they will be today (in most areas at least). Still, a nice weekend overall. Our weather situation becomes more complex as we get to the new week, with a low pressure system bringing rain into the region for at least the first half of Monday. What happens after that is going to depend on the position of a frontal boundary that trails behind the first low pressure area. Some parts of the region can end up in the 60s or be in the 40s depending on what side of the boundary they are on. For now, I am going to lean toward the cooler side, with air from the north and east coming in behind the initial low and never really being able to recover all the way through Tuesday, and probably even Wednesday. We will have to watch for an additional low pressure area close enough for more rain later Tuesday, hopefully after the Red Sox home opener, which may be taking place in very cool and raw weather.
Forecast details…

TUESDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Chance of rain. Areas of drizzle/fog. Lows 40-47. Wind variable up to 10 MPH.
WEDNESDAY: Variably cloudy. Highs 48-55. Wind N to NW 10-20 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (APRIL 11-15)
Pattern will feature high pressure in Canada and waves of low pressure passing south of New England, possibly over New England. This is a cooler/unsettled pattern overall with wet weather likely centered around April 11-12. May briefly warm up toward the end of the period with fair weather returning.

DAYS 11-15 (APRIL 16-20)
Pattern may try to readjust, starting cooler and ending milder, but it remains to be seen if that will be a longer-term shift.

  1. Thanks TK.

Logan received a snow Trace. I wish I looked out my window for maybe the last fleeting flakes of the season. Time to call it for the season (27.4”)?

At least the fire danger should be knocked down with the upcoming cool & damp temps. πŸ™‚

    1. I do not believe it was snow. I am pretty sure it was sleet.
Was sleeting pretty good here for an hour hour and half or so.
I don’t think I viewed a snow flake, although I suppose a few flakes could have been mixed in here and there.

    2. It’s April 6. It’s not time to call it final. It’s snowed measurable later than this date at Boston so we cannot do it yet. In fact, we should probably wait until the climate-based end of the snow season, June 30. πŸ™‚

        1. My old buddy, Brad! Miss him much!

I just don’t think Boston may be done, at least with opportunities. Something about this upcoming pattern. It’s not like April 1996 where we were getting legit snowstorms but just the type of pattern where we can get a couple instances of cold air deep enough for snow and/or sleet well into April. I won’t be so brave as to say May like the situation of May 18 2002 (1/2 inch of snow/sleet here).

          1. Sorry about Brad…They had a good run.
That tune is one of my all time favorites. I have their 1st 2 albums on vinyl.

Thank you for clarifying your thoughts. I figured it was something like that.

            1. Great stuff! Brad was such a nice guy. A joy to be around. But what a voice! Somewhere there is a video of him as the lead singer of Beatle Juice the night that their bass player sat out the gig so my brother could play. This was only months before my brother passed away. Some incredible memories there!

  2. Snow & sleet count the same for statistical purposes, so whether Logan saw snow or not ends up moot. But someone I do know that was passing through the city did report seeing flakes there.

    1. I’ve seen flakes in Boston also……now that you mention it, I have seen flakes year round.

Hmmmm must be a snarky day πŸ˜‰

        1. Just normal for Boston for April. These are big boys. They can play in that weather. If they wanna play world series games into early November they can handle some spring raw chill. Vicki sits on her deck in snowstorms. These guys are moving around in 40 degree weather. They can handle it. πŸ˜‰ And the fans? Dress in layers, or sell your tickets, or watch the game on TV. Simple solutions to simple problems that aren’t actually problems. πŸ˜‰

          1. πŸ™‚

Besides the smile you gave me…..pros don’t need ideal weather. It’s part of the reason I don’t like stadiums with domes. We make everything easier…..she said rolling her eyes.

            1. Domes can be ok for an area that has very frequent rainfall, so in general I guess I don’t have a big problem with them. But they then present their own set of issues, especially when stadiums rely on weather apps instead of actual updated forecasts for their decisions. (Example, the dome stadium rain out in Florida several years ago). πŸ˜‰

              1. Good points but only if they have proof they’d have to cancel more games than other teams. And absolutely on who they rely on for weather

        2. Philip…let’s hope they bring the weather they had in Seattle. Seattle’s high for the 4 days the Sox played there was 64, 62, 66 and 68

  3. Last April there were baseball games postponed due to cold. April 2019 nothing like April 2018 across the U.S.

    1. The Maine temps are very striking as well…upper 20s-low 30s. INSANE!

Barry did focus on Canada yet again on his morning newscast. His voice is finally back to normal, btw. πŸ™‚

    1. Well this is the full regular band playing in 2004. This was several years after the performance I talked to you about. This is a gem though. Brad was so good! That is my good friend Muzz on the drums. He was one of my brother’s best friends for years. He spent much much time in my basement playing during band rehearsals. πŸ™‚ The bass guitarist here is Joe Holladay who is a member of The Fools.

  4. Thank you, TK.

Hope you’re feeling better. You seem to handle the a-fib episodes well. But, it must be difficult.

  5. Today is a winner. Bright sunshine. Mild temperatures. Magnolias on Commonwealth Avenue are cautiously coming out.

On the Sox, I certainly haven’t written them off. I was just stating the obvious: They’ve had an embarrassing start to the season.

    1. I haven’t written them off either by any means, BUT playing on the West Coast to start the season has put them already at a disadvantage. Sports talk show hosts preach on this every year. I know I am a broken record but I maintain that this type of trip this early can wear down a team out of the gate.

      1. Philip…did you read my post from yesterday…teams that played at home (ie: Yankees for 6) have had a bad start too…it happens.

      2. I don’t agree at all about the West Coast to start. Early, middle, or end of season, these PROS need to be ready to play. They are playing poorly right now. Thankfully they have a lot of time to get things turned around, but I hope they don’t waste much of it.

          1. Yankees are now 3-4. Just because other teams aren’t much better, doesn’t mean we have to be as well.

  6. The Red Sox record to open the season was the worst for a defending World Series champion since the Marlins in 1998 who started 1-7.

    1. Well, at least they won’t be any worse than 2-9. The Marlins can KEEP that opening record.

  7. Rick Pitino was once said that Boston sports fans were the Fellowship of the Miserable…. πŸ™‚

    1. Many of them fit into that category, even when things have been going exceedingly well. πŸ™‚

I’m the exception. I know that much. πŸ˜‰

      1. I can sometimes get down on our teams…but only when they have been doing badly for a while…

  8. 63 at Logan, 11 above today’s average high of 52, however it’s about 2 degrees colder than I expected them to be at 2PM. SHAFTED! What a terrible spring day. πŸ˜‰ Oops, sorry, sounded like a Boston sports fan for a moment. πŸ˜›

I’m tired from my earlier a-fib but I’m going to take a little walk outside between the 2nd and 3rd periods of the Bruins game. I’m going out tonight so I have to rest up a bit. Lots of yard work planned tomorrow. πŸ™‚

      1. I am. πŸ™‚ I need that walk now, the Bruins had a good 1st but a not-so-good 2nd. The game is meaningless but it does impact team mentality going into the playoffs.

    1. Take it easy, TK.

It is a terrible spring day. Too sunny. Too mild. Too many birds chirping. Too many flowers budding. Too many happy faces and smiles. The Sox stink. B’s just gave up a short-handed goal. Celtics are inconsistent. Patriots have no receivers. … There you have it, the Fellowship of the Miserable.

  9. There were rumors a few months ago after UCLA fired Steve Alford as a coach that UCLA would be going after him. Now that does not look to be the case.

    1. It’s a WP stock but I’ve never used it I don’t think. I hope you write a good song!

I am trying to fix this so I can use my own photos on it but I think I need help from my techie, who is not here at the moment. And I’m about to go out for the evening so I’ll have to address the situation later. πŸ™‚

      1. You can use your own. Your techie will figure it out. That’s a great idea. And the sing is moving along πŸ˜‰

        Have fun tonight. Feel better
