7:30AM
DAYS 1-5 (MAY 2-6)
We’ll spend this entire period on the cool side of a frontal boundary, with waves of low pressure bringing unsettled weather for much of it. Although it won’t rain nearly the entire time, it will often be cloudy. The best chance to sneak in some sunshine is Saturday, and it may improve more significantly by Monday as high pressure pushes in from Canada.
Forecast details…
TODAY: Cloudy. Areas of fog and drizzle. Periods of rain, favoring northern MA and southern NH. Highs 46-53. Wind light NE.
TONIGHT: Cloudy. Areas of fog. Periods of rain/drizzle overnight. Lows 40-47. Wind light NE.
FRIDAY: Cloudy. Areas of fog. Periods of rain/drizzle possible. Highs 47-54. Wind light NE.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Chance of rain evening. Patchy fog. Lows 42-49. Wind light NE to N.
SATURDAY: Variably cloudy. Highs 52-59 coast, 60-67 interior. Wind light NE to N.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Chance of rain. Lows 45-52. Wind N to E 5-15 MPH.
SUNDAY: Cloudy. Chance of rain. Highs 52-59 except cooler coast. Wind E 10-20 MPH.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Patchy fog. Chance of drizzle. Lows 45-52. Wind N 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY: Partly sunny. Highs 60-67, cooler Cape Cod. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.
DAYS 6-10 (MAY 7-11)
Unsettled pattern overall but hard to tell which days stand the greatest chance of wet weather at this point. Temperatures trend milder.
DAYS 11-15 (MAY 12-16)
Will have to watch the pattern which may try to evolve into a typical spring block, but that could put SNE in nicer or continued unsettled weather, depending on configuration. Too early to tell.
Thanks TK.
Thanks TK !
Good morning and Thank you, TK.
Whoops…that was supposed to have the crying face emoji… 🙁
I thought I’d try a bit of a challenge. For every positive comment made here, post a negative. And for every negative here, post a positive. Might help us all understand each other. Please play!
I’ll start.
Positive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5TwT69i1lU
Negative https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F42VVAwa6tA
Sorry about the ad in the negative one but it alone is depressing so…..
Thank you TK!
Good morning and thank you TK. What a lovely forecast. NOT!
It appears to be raining yet again. Seems to be a familiar theme. Oh well, it’s
almost the weekend. Oh wait, it will rain again over the weekend.
Want a positive? Well I woke up today and I still have a job.
Hahahahaha. My positive for today is I woke up and when my two feet hit the ground, everything was good.
That is about as good a positive as you can have.
Not liking the total washout for Sunday. 🙁 🙁
There seems to be no topic among my customers other than the “utter misery” of the weather. I’ve already heard talk like “they’re washing Mother’s Day.” By next Sunday Memorial Day weekend will be “in doubt” on someone’s weather app…….
I’ve never dealt with weather apps but I find it interesting that they seem to only forecast bad weather far in advance but never fair weather.
Thanks TK.
It’s a pretty nice morning here in northern CT. Sunshine filtered through clouds and mild with temps in the low 60’s. Wish it would stay this way all day…
Of course this would happen now that we are in May…

Not in January but is happening in May-textbook troposphere-stratosphere-troposphere coupling starting with Scandinavian blocking, warming polar cap heights first in the stratosphere which then propagate to the troposphere with Greenland blocking and warm #Arctic/cold continents.

#Fani is unfortunately looking quite powerful this morning- roughly a supertyphoon or category 4 (US) hurricane intensity. That eye clearing out as it approaches the coast reminds me of Harvey or Michael 🙁

April was considerably wet … so much so that both #Boston & #Hartford recorded a record-high in the number of days it rained (≥ 0.01″) within both April … and within any month since records began!

So in other words … in the 147 years of record for #Boston, April 2019 saw the most number of days of measurable precipitation at 21 breaking the previous record of 19 last set back in December 2007.

HUGE NEWS! After receiving a visit from Mother Nature yesterday, we’re kicking off May with a major announcement: we’re adding May 11-12 and 18-19 to our operating schedule, making this season the longest in history!

Pretty amazing how the mountains near Flagstaff can still be picking up accumulating snow (and have 60″+ of it on the ground) while southern AZ is baking in the low 100’s.

I know, there and Lee Canyon!
I saw this in a retweet from Jim Cantore this AM. Pretty cool.
And I find it amazing as well that the ski areas of the west and east have had banner ski seasons this year. Usually the prevailing weather pattern across the country favors one over the other.
Thank you, TK.
Thanks so much and always, TK.
7.13″ of rain in Taunton/Norton for April which gives us 21.49″ for the first third of 2019.
We were at 25.96″ at this time last year, our record-breaking yearly rainfall at 70.50″
For the last 16 months, we have had nearly 91.5″ of precip.
We almost had sun here in Middleborough about 90 minutes. At least I think it was the sun. Not sure what it looks like anymore.
Now back to a thicker overcast. A bit foggy this morning.
Boston sports: I heard this tidbit on sports radio last week that the four major Boston sports teams have won a total of eight consecutive playoff series/games. Red Sox won three series in the playoffs/World Series; the Patriots won two playoff games and the Super Bowl; the Bruins defeated the Maple Leafs and the Celtics took care of the Pacers.
The total record for all those playoff games since October (including the on-going series v. the Blue Jackets and Bucks) is Boston/New England 23 wins, Opponents 9 wins.
That’s insane!
Correction: We nearly had sun 90 minutes ago.
Joshua:
I did see Messi’s 600th goal. I think you asked, last week, how many in WHW Nation were soccer fans. I am a huge FC Barcelona fan! I have seen them play three times, twice in the Camp Nou.
Messi is the best athlete on the planet right now. There are no words to describe how incredible he’s playing! We have run out of adjectives.
Barcelona is playing to win the Triplete (the Triple Crown). They won La Liga last week, are in the finals of the Copa del Rey at the end of May and it looks like they will be in the finals of Champions League.
I think I read that your team is Ajax. Perhaps we will face each other June 1 in the Finals at the Wanda in Madrid!
Today’s a gem of an early May day, isn’t it ….. 46F and drizzle ….
The positive is no one is probably getting a sunburn. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
And now comes the real RAIN!!!
Well done Tom 😉
I heard birds chirping at 3:45 this morning. It was not my imagination. I’ve heard birds chirp maybe as early as 4:15/4:30 during the summer but not before 4:00 AM that I can recall. I can’t imagine what bird would be so happy about this gloom at sunrise let alone 3-something in the morning.
I actually got a creepy feeling, if anything.
They were probably chirping even earlier, 3:45 was when I first looked out my window and heard them.
It is early. Hmmm
As far as doom….rain and new growth makes them happy.
Cant really complain here…..so far. We have had partial sun up until about a half hour ago with temps in the 60’s. Now overcast and 62 in Manchester CT.
Well, I can certainly complain here. 😉
Don’t forget to add a positive. 🙂 🙂 🙂
46 in my back yard with a touch of RAIN.
Just a quick thought. I wonder if we would have the same outlook on this type of weather if it was the middle of winter, with consistently overcast days, with on and off snow showers , flurries, and as Barry would say, Snizzle. Not sure if this comment qualifies as positive or negative.
I think it is both, but more positive! Nice, SC!
We have had to pay more for oil this winter because the cold has been around longer.
Some might not recognize the positive, but it is definitely there.
Captain, yes indeed `my’ team is Ajax. Their style is similar to Barca, but they don’t have the elite talent Barca has. Nevertheless, they’ve done very well in this year’s Champion’s League. They’re in a reasonably good position to advance to the finals (it’ll be tough in the return game, given Tottenham’s scoring ability and size advantage). Given their limited payroll it’s quite an achievement for Ajax to even be in the semifinals. Like Barca, Ajax is also aiming to win all three trophies this year: Champion’s League, national league, and national cup.
Messi is certainly in my view the best professional athlete on the planet. He’s also globally the most popular. Sorry Ronaldo, but it’s true. He has Maradonna’s instincts, passing, and dribbling ability with an even better eye for the goal. Maradonna didn’t have quite the same talent around him when he played, so it might not be a fair comparison. Nevertheless, Messi is truly incredible.
Maradonna was far more talented but lacked the right temperament.
Just spoke with a sales rep in Detroit. I was ordering a flame genie to use in our fire pit. He said it had been wet there also. One of their main rivers is literally just below the bridge. Unsolicited he said everyone was complaining and he just kept telling them to enjoy because he promises summer will get here. Good thing he made the comment after I had purchased. I might have bought tons more. 🙂
I’ll do my part on the negative positive as I don’t toss too many negatives other than bitching about media and/or apps, but I’ll leave that aside for now and just say today was a hectic stressful today and I still have a ton to do, but as a positive companion to it I have more energy than I expected at this point in the day so I’m about to put it to good use and kick the butt of my to-do list. 😉
No negative weather comments from me as this pattern doesn’t frazzle me one single bit. So I can’t use that. 😉
Well done TK. And hope you can rest soon.
Hopefully the Bruins tonight don’t add to your stress TK. It appears you could use some good news at the end of this day. ;-)x
Funny thing is, as big a Bruins fan as I am, these games don’t stress me out. A little anxiety, sure. I want them to win badly, but when my teams lose I get over it right away. It’s just sports. We’re spoiled ’round here. 🙂
Vicki, here is a positive…severe storms do stay away from us! 🙂
BUT…that is the only good aspect of this pattern. 😉
🙂
Another good aspect of this pattern no heat and humidity. We could have 90s this time of year.
My fellow teachers and I were saying this as we were leaving our staff meeting this afternoon. Our building bakes in the heat and humidity. Plus, construction of our new school building has begun. Our building is shaking and booming with all of the construction equipment.
Noticing some significant differences between the GFS & ECMWF for next week. Well, only adds to the low confidence forecast. 😉
That said, I’m leaning toward GFS and think a sneaky 80 degree day may be happening somewhere in SNE next Wednesday (making big assumptions here so don’t put that in the bank yet please).
B’s 2-1, in the 1st.
Should be 2-0. That puck was out of play before Columbus got their goal. Not even a question.
Has anyone been watching the weather in TN. I have a friend in Gallatin, TN who had huge winds go through about 3 hours ago. Big trees and limbs down all over. I see a tornado warning to her west but this happened a while ago. I was at a meeting so didn’t see her message till now. She said was the worst wind she’s ever had
There is one batch of weakening storms to the east and another batch entering western areas. The only severe storms are near the Missouri border with one severe thunderstorm warning and one tornado warning. I think the activity should weaken overnight.
Thanks TK. I think it must have been the line to her east that caused the winds. The photos she shared showed a mess
Hope you have had time to relax
I’m relaxing a bit during the hockey game while I do laundry. 😉 I guess that’s as close as I’m gonna get!
Oh my. That has a very familiar ring. Folding laundry break for me.
Well, that’s probably one of the only times you’ll see a 4-1 “shutout”. 😉 HAHAHA!
Quabbin Reservoir = 100.4% capacity
Drought’s over! 😉
