Thursday Forecast

7:34AM

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 9-13)
High pressure hangs on today with dry weather, though not as sunny as yesterday. Low pressure tracks north of the region Friday and its warm front / cold front combo brings unsettled weather, but this moves right along and sets up a fairly nice weekend with great weather Saturday and fair weather holding on Sunday as high pressure forces the first of 2 low pressure areas south of the region. The second low will take advantage of departing high pressure to bring wet/cool weather Monday.
Forecast details…
TODAY: Partly sunny to mostly cloudy. Highs 58-65, cooling back along the coast. Wind light SE.
TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Lows 47-54. Wind SE 5-15 MPH.
FRIDAY: Mostly cloudy. Episodes of rain showers. Highs 52-59 coast, 60-67 interior. Wind SE 5-15 MPH shifting to S.
FRIDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Rain showers and possible thunderstorms evening, ending overnight west to east. Areas of fog. Lows 45-52. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
SATURDAY: Sun and passing clouds. Highs 59-66. Wind W 5-15 MPH and gusty.
SATURDAY NIGHT: Mostly clear. Lows 40-47. Wind light W.
SUNDAY: Variably cloudy. Highs 57-64. Wind light variable becoming SE.
SUNDAY NIGHT: Cloudy. Rain arriving overnight. Lows 41-48. Wind light E.
MONDAY: Overcast. Rain/drizzle likely. Highs 47-54. Wind N to NE 5-15 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 14-18)
Low pressure departs slowly to east with upper level low pressure still around for somewhat unstable conditions and a chance of rain showers May 14 into May 15. Mostly dry weather in the May 16-18 period but a cold front may cross sometime late May 16 to May 17 with a few rain showers.

DAYS 11-15 (MAY 19-23)
I remain cautiously optimistic for a drier overall pattern and near to above normal temperatures.

  1. Good morning and thank you TK.
What a beautimous day it is. Yes, I know the sea breeze awaits us here near the coast, but I am not too worried for my house. It should easily make low 60s at least at my house with a chance of higher than that. It was already 54 when I left the house around 7:45.

  2. Thanks TK !

I never thought I would ever say this, but I’m glad this year’s version of the Celtics have been eliminated.

I love basketball and could not watch this particular team any longer.

    1. Tremendous talent, but something was severely lacking…. They never really
learned to play together as a team.

    1. Yup, now let’s work on keeping Sunday dry, at least during the daylight
      hours. 🙂 🙂

  3. This date back in 1977 accumulating snow for parts of SNE. I love snow but not in May.

    1. I was a junior in high school at the time. I got a snow day out of it though, as did many other school kids. 🙂

    2. I don’t recall Belmont getting a lot. Mac and I moved to framingham two years later and some tree damage was still obvious

      1. 9 inches in Belmont that day, Vicki, by my memory!

I recall it well as I flew back from England that morning and arrived to that snowfall.

        1. Thank you. No idea why I don’t remember …very odd for me since I know I would have loved it.

          Imagine. So exciting

  4. I would imagine with that snow that fell back on this date in 1977 there were a lot of power outages with the leaves on the trees and this being a wet snow.

    1. Widespread power outages. We had about a half foot of snow in Woburn and they had a special collection the next week to pick up all the branches downed.

  5. The only thing my life time that comes close to that out of season snowfall is the October 2011 Nor’easter. We had the most power outages ever in CT due to that storm and I remember driving around the day after seeing a lot of tree damage and power lines. Halloween had to be postponed to the first weekend of November since it was not safe with the all the damage for the kids to go trick or treating.

  6. Thanks Jp Dave!! Zeppelin is one of the best bands of all time imho. Totally enjoyed that awesome rendition.

  7. Another in a series of spring beauties. Refreshing air. Sunshine. Nice.

Timing of the next weather system sort of works out for me. Tomorrow I do have to drive in the rain up to Norwich, Vermont. But, my 10k near Norwich early Saturday morning should be rain-free. It’s a challenge as the first 3k is a a rather steep climb of a 2500 ft. small mountain, then it’s 3k circling the mountain, and the last 4k is downhill. I can’t really train for it in Boston, though perhaps JP/Arboretum would be a good place for hills.

Still very sad about Ajax. The picture below tells you all you need to know. Last second goal by Tottenham dashed their hopes of making it to the final. The young players – Ajax is a very young team – lay heartbroken on the field. It’s the beauty and cruelty of sports, all wrapped into a picture. Unfortunately, more than 60% of the team ‘s players have been bought by the big clubs in Europe, so a return to the final round of the Champions League will probably not happen for a very long time.

      1. Thanks Joshua. I’m sorry I didn’t know earlier. This would be fun to follow for my grands. I’ll show them this weekend. Thank you very much for posting here
