Sunday Forecast

7:38AM

DAYS 1-5 (MAY 26-30)
As promised, the wet weather came at night between days 1 & 2 of the Memorial Day Weekend. The last few lingering showers are moving off the East Coast of Massachusetts early this morning and that ends the warm front precipitation episode. Some of the showers were indeed thunderstorms in the late-night hours, providing a bit of a light show, especially west and south of Boston. Now today, its warmth and increased humidity as the features, but we cannot rule out a pop up shower or thunderstorm this afternoon and very early evening in the slightly unstable air in place. The support for showers and storms is not really that great, however, so they should be just isolated, and short-lived. A cold front will cross the region this evening without any fanfare, just a wind shift and a drop in humidity during the night. This will set up a spectacular Memorial Day as high pressure moves in and brings sunshine with dry and mild air, although the coast will likely cool due to a sea breeze. But there will be no weather issues for outdoor observances / ceremonies / parades for the day. Unsettled weather will return during the Tuesday-Thursday period when we have a warm front approach Tuesday and then we may see that boundary hang up right in our area Wednesday and Thursday, making for a nearly impossible temperature forecast which I will lean toward the warmer side of for now, but with the caveat these may be adjusted downward. It will be hard to time any wet weather until we get closer to those days.
Forecast details…
TODAY: Clouds and showers depart far eastern MA early otherwise mostly sunny to partly cloudy with a slight risk of an isolated shower or thunderstorm mid afternoon to early evening. Humid. Highs 69-76 Cape Cod, 77-84 elsewhere. Wind WSW 5-15 MPH with higher gusts possible.
TONIGHT: Partly cloudy evening. Clear overnight. Lows 55-62. Wind W 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY (MEMORIAL DAY): Mostly sunny. Highs 68-75. Wind NW 5-15 MPH.
MONDAY NIGHT: Clear. Lows 50-57, 45-50 some interior valleys. Wind calm.
TUESDAY: Clouding over. Chance of rain mainly after noon. Highs 63-70, coolest coast. Wind light variable becoming SE.
TUESDAY NIGHT: Mostly cloudy. Scattered showers and a risk of a thunderstorm. Lows 55-62. Wind light S.
WEDNESDAY: Variably cloudy. Risk of showers/thunderstorms. Humid. Highs 68-75, cooler South Coast. Wind SW 10-20 MPH.
WEDNESDAY NIGHT: Variably cloudy. Areas of fog. Chance of showers. Humid. Lows 60-67. Wind SW 5-15 MPH.
THURSDAY: Partly sunny. Risk of showers/thunderstorms. Humid. Highs 75-82, cooler South Coast. Wind SW 10-20 MPH.

DAYS 6-10 (MAY 31-JUNE 4)
High pressure should become more dominant but it will be on the weaker side and a boundary between slightly cooler/drier air and much warmer/humid air will sit to the south for a good portion of this period. The overall idea in this pattern is mostly dry, temperatures close to seasonal averages overall. But any time a boundary sits to the south it must be watched for the potential of sending unsettled weather back into the region, so we will be somewhat vulnerable and will have to keep an eye on it.

DAYS 11-15 (JUNE 5-9)
A trough crossing eastern Canada may send a couple disturbances and shower/t-storm chances into SNE a couple times during this period. Temperatures overall should be fairly close to seasonal averages.

  1. Thanks TK !

Beautiful day yesterday, what a great stretch of weather it has been.

Waves of showers last night came through last night.

  2. On the way to our RI. Beaches and I will take the cold plunge into the 55 degree water. I’m sure it will be very invigorating. Then to Sarasota Wednesday morning for a plunge into the 85 degree water Wednesday afternoon.

    1. Water temp still in upper 40s on some of the East Coast beaches.

It was funny I know that you understand the reality but last year on Facebook I was laughing because people could not understand why we didn’t have consistent Beach weather and warm water on the New England coast at the end of May.

  3. Thanks TK!

According to Dave Epstein, only a 4-6 hour stretch of humidity later today then back to drier tomorrow. I’ll take that combo all summer! 🙂

  4. What an amazing morning. I did everything yesterday so I could sit today….well, my version of sitting is popping up and down to do things…

We have turkey nest in woods behind house and there is a ton of noise coming from there. We never hear them. Just see them at the bird feeder. I’m hoping one of the foxes lrmthe coyote isn’t at the babies. 🙁

  5. Unbelievable weather so far this weekend down here on the south shore . Rain cane in late last night & when I left at 6:30 this morning to do some planting in Plymouth it was cloudy but by 8:00 the sun was out & you could tell it was going to be a warm one .

    1. Hi SSK….daughter asked if I would find out from you what grass seed you recommend. We have some fairly large spots they want to seed. Thank you

      1. The Nursery that I do business with swears by Jonathan green seed & that’s all he caries. I’ve used it on a few jobs & have had good results . The key Vicki is the watering 2-3 times a day for 2-3 weeks until the new growth is achieved. I tell my customers all the time do not by loam & seed If you can’t commit to watering that is if you do not have irrigation. You do not want the seed to dry out . I do a few levels of seed sowed into the soil nice with top quality half inch screened Loam.

      1. DP’s are lower north, middle to upper 50s southern NH to northern MA, upper 50s to middle 60s as you head south toward the South Coast.

  6. Oh I got some heat complaints today. I laughed out loud.

What I am surprised at is no one in the Met community is a actively calling out the almost regular 4-8 degree cool bias on the ECMWF. It is as much of a regular cool bias I can recall in any reasonable / reliable model output in the last 20 years.

    1. It is cool, AND FV3 is still a little cool it seems in the latter panels, but they have made some strides .. it goes live mid June.

  7. I didn’t check Logan’s dewpoints every single hour but I don’t believe their temps ever made it over 60. Am I correct? Most certainly not complaining. 🙂

Also interesting that 6:00 PM obs. had Worcester dp (57) and Logan dp (51).

    1. We were up to 61 DP with an 88 temp. It was perfect. The breeze was like natures AC with the lack of humidity

      Now 71 with 58 DP

  8. what a perfect day it was today!! I’m going to give it a 9. 5 however I’m deducting a half a point due to that damn wind ;).
All joking aside, I just want to take a minute to honor the memory of the incomprehensible number men and women that have given the ultimate sacrifice, so that we may be able to enjoy days like these with friends and family, free of the fears and oppression that so many in this world have to endure on a daily basis. On this Memorial Day weekend I’m forever grateful to all who have made the ultimate sacrifice for my freedom!!!!!
