Monday Forecast

7:09AM

DAYS 1-5 (JUNE 10-14)
As the new week begins, we keep some of the great weather we enjoyed over the weekend with sunshine to start, but we’ll lose the sun to advancing clouds during the day. If there was one down side to the dry weekend, it was the prolific pine pollen dusting everything greenish yellow, and the smaller unseen pollen grains giving people allergy fits. But that is just something we have to deal with around here every year at this time, and is a price to pay for getting to the nice weather so many wanted. So, as a former bad allergy sufferer, I sympathize. If there is some good news about unsettled weather, it will be that it will help reduce the pollen count, and that wet weather is on the way for later tonight into early Tuesday, as a warm front and then a cold front cross the region in rapid succession, parented by low pressure passing north of the region. By Tuesday afternoon, we’ll already be dry with a westerly wind and clearing. High pressure builds in for a wonderful Wednesday, the pick of the work week if you can somehow make it a non-work day or happen to have it off. Another passing low pressure area this time with an onshore wind ahead of a center that will cut across southern New England, will bring wet and cooler weather Thursday. But don’t look out the window that day and think we’re right back into or still in the same pattern we were before. In fact, these 2 bouts of rain this week are needed as it has turned a little dry recently, and regular rains are still needed. It does not take long for the top layers of the ground to dry out. But since nobody is really going to want to see days on end of clouds and wet weather, they will be happy when the sun returns Friday, albeit with passing clouds and a gusty breeze, as dry air returns behind the low pressure area.

DAYS 6-10 (JUNE 15-19)
The June 15-16 weekend looks mainly rain-free but we may see a couple disturbances bring a period or two of cloudiness and perhaps the shower/thunderstorm risk may increase by later Sunday if things move along quickly enough, but for now leaning toward a great weekend. Frontal boundary nearby will bring shower/thunderstorm chances at times June 17-18 before high pressure brings fair weather by the end of this period. Temperatures will vary but will average near to slightly above normal with no major heat in sight at this time.

DAYS 11-15 (JUNE 20-24)
The overall pattern will be zonal (west to east flow) with a couple disturbances bringing us shower and thunderstorm opportunities, which are impossible to pin-point, timing-wise, so many days in advance. Still no sign of major heat in this period though some of our medium range guidance indicates it will be building to our west and southwest.

  1. I am so glad David Ortiz seems to be in stable condition. It has allowed me to feel good this morning about what the Bruins accomplished last night.

Am happy for the 3 day break til game 7. Believe this break benefits the quicker Bruins more.

    1. Thankfully no vital organs were hit. The fact that David Ortiz was shot directly in the back though, I just hope no kind of paralysis will occur later.

  2. Thursdayโ€™s event looks similar to 7/4/1978. Only 65F for a high that day and plenty of rain. I forget if the fireworks had to be canceled or if they went off as planned.

  3. Good morning TK and thank you TK.

You need to do something with your writing skills and style. Excellent blog
entry today, but then they always are. Today, it particularly hit me how well
    it was written.

We were out last night and only caught the last period of the B’s game.
The Bruins showed the Blues who was boss last night. Now can they do it again.

And not for nothing, but Tuukka has been playing out of his mind.

    Go Bruins!!

    1. All about the Bruins letโ€™s go . Rask MVP . I really like the bruins in 7 at home with everything on the line . St. Louis is absolutely nothing but dirty punks .

      1. I know this would never happen ….. but …..

Shouldn’t the Bruins start game 7 with a 1:45 power play.

Those penalties with 15 seconds to go by the St Louis player on Accari (2 cross checks and a left punch)

I mean, as the rules stand, the player received 2 minutes, but didn’t serve 2 minutes.

That truly makes no logical sense.

        1. New rule …

In playoff games, penalties committed near the end of the 3rd period that aren’t able to be served due to a lack of time left, carry over into the next game.

If this happens in a series clinching game, the 3rd period is extended until the penalty has been served.

          1. Well, that simply makes too much sense!!!!
            NEVER going to happen. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Nice.

I’ve only been to the airport there as I was on a brief layover from Vegas waiting
for a connecting flight to Boston. It looked nice from the air as we landed. ๐Ÿ™‚

    2. Ditto JPD – I’ve only been to the airport and it is just beautiful. It is also the only place (and that encompasses worldwide) that Mac’s sister said she did not enjoy living. But she did enjoy its beauty.

    3. Its been cool in that part of the US.

Did it seem like the mountain tops were covered with a lot of snow ?

      1. Yes very much so and Snowbird is still open to ski from 8 am to 12 or 2 or so.

From the center of the city, where the Temples are, you can walk five minutes into a park that leads in to a canyon. In other words you can go for a fabulous hike at lunch right in the middle of the city!

  4. Another beauty outside.

For hockey enthusiasts yesterday’s 3rd period was a clinic in how a technically gifted and deep team (Bruins) can dismantle a team that generally lacks both technical skills and depth (Blues). There were several passes during that 3rd period that were of the highlight reel variety. There was also one in the 2nd period from McAvoy that shows his tremendous vision and skill. Even Chara’s empty-netter was one of the finest you’ll ever see – it went 160 feet, dead center in the back of the net. If you’re a neutral fan I think you’re rooting for the Bruins, if only because of the demonstration of pure skill and finesse.

I still believe the Blues will put up a good fight. They have a lot of heart, physicality, and several snipers. But, the Bruins can and should outclass them in Game 7.

    1. I agree except that polls show that the vast majority of neutral fans are rooting for the Blues, most likely simply because the other team is from Boston and they’re tired of Boston teams winning. ๐Ÿ˜‰

      1. I saw that only 2 states in the country are rooting for the Bruins.
Massachusetts and for some odd reason, California.
I make no claim as to the accuracy of what I heard. ๐Ÿ™‚

No Matter, it’s be oh so long since we had a parade, so
        time for another!!!

        1. My cousin just stopped by to visit on a return trip to NH from a visit to her daughter’s in Long Island. They seem to be rooting for the bruins. But then NY is a large state. And how petty is a person who is tired of seeing excellent teams no matter where they are from or how often their area teams win. Just sad.

  5. Thanks TK! On the ferry heading off Nantucket. We had a ton of work to do but we certainly had gorgeous weather. Beautiful place to visit but I could never live there.

  6. For those who use models…

The ECMWF (Euro) is getting an upgrade to improve performance. The new version will debut with the 12z run on Tuesday June 11 2019.

The current GFS will be retired and the FV3 will become the new GFS starting with the 12z run on Wednesday June 12 2019.

  7. I use a model – it is called the WHW model!

And for an update from Sutton….clouds started moving in an hour or so ago and now area bit thicker. It has been yet another glorious day.

  8. I been asking for graduate research positions in which I would help professors do research and have been getting alot of I do not have funding or will not know till later this summer (ie about when we go down) but today I just found out the program elected me to be a graduate Teaching Assistant. ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Ratings have shown that the 2019 NHL playoffs are the most watched on record. That’s because hockey is awesome. ๐Ÿ™‚

Solid overcast here now. Rain is taking its time and fighting a little bit of dry air. The warm front will probably under-produce slightly. Still should do ok with the cold front tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow will be the tale of 2 different types of weather. Morning: Grey sky, showers, some heavy, and rather muggy. Afternoon, bright sunshine & a gusty breeze with air drying out.

    1. I had heard similar. I really need to get involved. It amazes me how many I know love hockey. It seems to surpass baseball and football. Basketball…well, itโ€™s just not my thing

      1. If you look nationally, NHL is 4th of the 4 major sports but it’s pretty much always been that way. They also have the toughest athletes, pay the least, and get the least promotion. But they definitely have the best fans in sports. ๐Ÿ™‚ Of the 4 majors, it’s the most “accessible” in terms of making the fans feel like they are part of the game.

        1. The level of play in the NHL is unmatched in any other sport — and this goes from the top team to the last place team. The quality of play is way above that of any other major league in any sport on the planet.

      2. I am quickly learning how right you all are. Iโ€™m late to the party but am really looking forward to Wednesday night

  10. Whoa….news reports seem to be agreeing with Coastal that it was an ambush/hit on Ortiz but not a professional asassin.

One report said some organs were hit. I donโ€™t know how accurate that is. He is back in Boston which is encouraging

    1. When I saw the video last night I thought no way was that a robbery attempt.. It was simply attempted murder.

      1. Agree. But it was close range. I get center mass but that close makes you wonder why in the back. It wasnโ€™t a professional hit
